IMac keeps losing ISP, internet and Server but still connected to wifi

My Imac keeps losing ISP, Internet, and Server but is still connected to the Wifi. To recnnect, I have to go into Netwrok Diagnostics - assist me. This is happening every twenty minutes or so (sometimes less). Can anyone help? I might add that we have recently moved house and never had this problem before.

Wifi problems seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following can help although, unfortunately, not always. In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion:

  • My imac keeps losing ISP, INTERNET AND SERVER but still has WIFi

my iMac keeps losing ISP, INTERNET and SEVER but is still connected to the Wi-Fi and when I tern on the mac i have to connect it every time and it is on preferred net work its the Olney one then after I connect it works for about 20 min then stops and I got to network preferences and click on ASSIST ME - DIAGONSTICS and it shows ISP INTERNET AND SEVER ALL IN YELLOW.

Open System Preferences Network pane.  In the sidebar, if you see things you do not use for networking, remove them (you can add them back later if they are ever needed).  For example, if you don't use Bluetooth or FireWire for networking, remove them from the list of networking services.  To do this, select the item on the list and click the minus sign at the bottom of the sidebar.  You can leave Ethernet on the list.
NOTE:  Bluetooth and FireWire networking is not related to their use for connecting devices.
Also, click on the gear icon at the bottom of the sidebar, and select Set Service Order.  Make sure Wi-Fi (or AirPort for older Mac OS X) is at the top of the list.
Apply the change (and maybe restart your Mac as well).  See if that makes any difference.

  • MacBook Pro and iMac keep losing wireless internet connection.

Greetings all, two weeks ago I purchashed a MacBook Pro and iMac and they've worked fine, except for the internet. The wireless randomly goes out, but the airport bars remain. At first I thought it was just pages having trouble loading because of the OS (stupid I know) It's been happening more and more frequently and the only way to solve it is to turn the Airport off and then on which allows the internet to reconnect. My wireless router is connected to an HP an the router is a Dlink 1310 wireless G router. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi all,
It seems I am not alone. There is a very strange problem either with my brand new unibody MacBookPro 17" or the Airport Extreme I am using to connect to the Internet via a cable connected router. The router I am using is Billion 7300 and works fine, and I can even connect to the wireless access via the router and all works fine. I am using Airport Extreme to extend the access area in my house and also use a USB drive for storage attached to the AirportExtreme. The funny thing is that the first couple of weeks I had no problems with the MacBookPro going on the Internet via the Airport. At that time I had the wireless part of the Billion modem disabled so as to avoid possible interference. Suddenly, one day about a week or so ago, the MBP would connect first time to the wireless Airport and to the Internet for only about a few seconds and then no update on any of the web pages. I was suspecting first my ADSL, but that was all along OK. The signal strength to the Airport is strong, but just the connection to the Internet is no longer available. Strange thing is I have in the same room a 24" iMac and this is still connected to the Internet via the Airport with no problems. Same settings on both! I tried everything I could think off on the Airport, tweaked, changed, reset and created new connection - but without any luck. It is as if the Airport decided to just block the MBP for whatever reason. I also have the Little Snitch, which I disabled too.
I was hoping that the latest Leopard 10.5.7 would have a fix for such a behaviour, but no change.
I cannot make any conclusion as everything contradicts: if the MBP wireless has a problem, I wouldn't be able to connect to the Billion wireless; if the Airport is at fault I should not be able to connect to it with the iMac. I go to work where other two brands of wireless hot-spots I use (D-Link and Billion 7402) and I have no problems swicthing between the two. It seems only Apple's Airport is a problem for my new MBP.
It must be something in the software of the Airport or MBP ?!?!?
APPLE, PLEASE HELP, THIS IS ANNOYING.
I already spent three days trying to solve a problem that should be 'No Brainer" according to the Apple's design books. But I do have a problem that I did not know about before.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

  • ISP, internet, and server failures constantly.

This has been happening for quite a while now, after 10-15 minutes I will always disconnect from the internet but still have full strength wireless activity.
This is not restricted to my home network as this happens at almost every wireless network I've used.
Does anyone know anyway to fix this?

My Macbook and my Neighbours is doing the same thing. Has been perfect for years, then about 3-4 weeks ago, its on & off etc etc. Hence me being on here looking to see if there is a known bug. Neighbours Macbook just the same, i.e. 3-4 weeks ago......

  • Is there any simple way I can find out whether my router or my mac air is responsible for dropping internet connection constantly?  Often when I do the network diagnostic, the wifi light is green, but isp internet and server are either amber or red.

This is driving me crazy.  The router (it came with the apartment) is a Fritz!Box fon Wlan 7240.  I would be willing to buy an new airport if that would fix it.  But in this country (Germany) you probably can't give things back.

This is not an alternative to Susan Howard's diagnostic questions, only an atempt to collect more data about your situation.
Do you have the instruction manual for your router? I ask because at some point it might be a good idea to reset the router. Turning it off for about 15 seconds then turning it back on helps sometimes. The more basic procedure (this is with my router) is to push the reset. But that would mean you have to re-configure the router with password etc. from scratch.

  • Internet stops working while still connected to wifi

The internet on my Macbook pro begins running slowing after using it for a while. But after restarting the computer it goes back to working fine. Using sites like tumblr cause it to go to crap even faster, and I'm assuming that's because of the constant reloading and processing of new things.
Searching through google pages excessively does the same thing. However, if I watch movies on netflix, or videos on youtube, the internet doesn't go to crap as quickly. When it finally does start running slower, the fan in my computer is running loudly. Pages on the internet refuse to load or load slowly.
The rest of the things on my computer work decently. This doesn't appear to be an issue with Kernel_Task. I'd appreciate any help. I really don't want to have to take in the computer, so I'm hoping it's something I can solve on my own

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Hi Ray, no idea what is mentioned in those other links, but...
this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • Imac suddenly dropping ISP/INTERNET/SERVER all the time

Since adding a new Macbook Pro to my home setup my iMac continually drops ISP/INTERNET/SERVER once its connected. All other devices are absolutely fine and connected to BT Home Hub with BT Infinity. When I perform Network Diagnostics it tells NETWORK CHANGE DETECTED - I click OK and its fine for 30 seconds then drops out again. The WIFI light is always green and I've tried 2 other computes and iPhone in the same location and they are fine too. I have also tried resetting the Home Hub but this doesn't help.
I can't help thinking its a device problem rather than a BT problem but wanted to check here first before calling them.
All help much appreciated - as I said this has only just started happening and the only difference to the setup is that I've added a new laptop into the setup.
    Thanks
    S

Ok, so when you say you lose internet connection, is it disconnecting from your wireless network so there are no bars?
And are there usually full bars?

  • I have a brand new iMac (late 2012) that keeps losing its internet connection

I have a brand new iMac (late 2012) that keeps losing its internet connection - like every five minutes. I have had it for three weeks. During the first two weeks, it worked flawlessly. However, just as the refund period ended - it became desktop dead weight. Suggestions?

did u ever get a solution to this?  I have the same 2012 mines 27". It drops after sleep sometimes and can't find anything. Wifi. Connection to the Internet. I pull up network assistant it just gives me blank stares and restart everything. It doesn't even see the time machines and they are still there. I have it right now in full error and my iphones allowing me to see everything as connected and I'm posting here in the forum while my iMac cannot. Doesn't happen all the time. Not sure why it happens or what's goinng on with It. Works great and then sudden wifi failure to recognize.

  • ISP Problems - All network status LEDs are green, except Internet and Serve

System, Macbook Pro Airport Extreme, D-Link cable Modem.
Randomly I loose the internet. I run Network Diagnosis and it shows green for Airport Airport Settings Network Settings and ISP, but yellow and then eventually red for Internet and Server.
I run the Network Diagnostics and it usually will resolve the issue, but I'm wondering if I should be complaining to my cable company or changing some setting.

For anybody experiencing similar difficulties the solution was the security settings on the wirless router. I had to get Orange to access my Macbook remotley to change from wep to wap2.

  • Hi there can anyone help. I am connected to the internet by ethernet but my connection keeps timing out and my network diagnostics shows all green and network connection ok but still no internet connection. the other wireless laptop in my flat works well.

Hi there can anyone help. I am connected to the Internet by Ethernet but my connection keeps timing out and my network diagnostics shows all green and network connection ok but still no Internet connection. the other wireless laptop in my flat works well. Could the other wireless laptops being used in my flat be affecting my connection. what can I do to get connected, keep connected. Thanks for any ideas out there.

My network connected for a few hours then went back to timing out. I have not changed anything. However there four additional laptop users in my family who do not seem to be having any problems using their wireless connection. Could their film and music downloads be causing the timing out of my connection and if so is there a way I could prioritizes my computer or limit their use?

  • Internet not working - wifi connected but internet and server fail, ethernet cable doesn't work either

All of a sudden the internet on our Macbook Pro does not work.  We connect through an Airport Extreme and other mac works fine.  It shows that wifi is fully connected but when i go to diagnostics, i see the internet and server are failing.  I tried connecting an ethernet cable and it doesn't work that way either.  Have restarted and reset modem and router, nothing is working… help!

    Hi ehamzic1,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand how frustrating it can be when your computer cannot connect to the internet. In your situation, you will need to isolate to find what is causing the issues connecting. I would recommend reading over and working through the attached article. The article should help you troubleshoot and resolve this situation.
