Imac keyboard

I've had my imac for almost two weeks now and was wondering if anyone had any info on alternate keyboards that would accommodate the computer? I've been a laptop user for the last five years and would like something bigger.
Also, this is my first Mac i've ever dealt with and so far i'm pretty impressed. However, the one thing that's driving me nuts, are the keyboard combinations. I don't have a clue. Are there any web sites out there that would help me with this?
A1207   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I just got my 24" iMac yesterday.
I am happily using a Microsoft Naturual Keyboard 4000... It even came with a CD that had both PC & Mac software!
The key is to get a keyboard that has a USB connector.

  • Using the new imac keyboard on the macbook pro

is there a software update that allows the use of the new features of the imac keyboard when hooked up to a Macbook pro (core2duo) It would be great if the screen brightness, dashboard keys, etc would function as they are labeled.

I suppose you're thinking of the 27" iMac that might be used as an ext screen and/or the 24" LED.
Both come with a MiniDisplayPort input - that will work with current MBpros. If you want to connect an older MacBookPro with only a DVI connector you'll need an additional DVI to MiniDP converter.
Such animals exist and cost approx 100 Euro like this one: http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort-Converter-p-17859.html

  • HT3924 can i use iMac keyboard and mouse when it is in Target Display Mode and attached to my MBP?

I can attach my iMac to my MBP via thunderbolt and run it in Target Display Mode, so that itsimply becomes a screen attached to my MBP.
What I really want is for the keyboard and mouse of my iMac to also operate as if they were attached to my MBP, but I cant seem to achieve this.
    Is it possible?

Its a wireless mouse and keyboard - dont think I can re-pair the keyboard to MBP since I need it talking to the iMac to enable and disable TDM?
I expected TDM to natively pass through the mouse and keyboard to the MBP, since that is the obvious user requirement. But this does not happen.
So I guess I want a workaround so my iMac keyboard and mouse can drive my MBP while attached via Thunderbolt cable in TDM mode.

  • Can I connect my iPad2 to iMac keyboard?

I turned on the iPad's Bluetooth and it will not see the iMac keyboard. Can it be connected and if so how?

As long as your IMac keyboard is Bluetooth enabled it will work. I have read some posts in this community that it might take a couple of attempts. Try and put your iPad and keyboard close together maybe this will help.

  • PC key caps for iMac keyboard

I am planning to switch from PC to iMac as soon as the 2012 iMac becomes available (whenever that may be). Since I use my current desktop for work and gaming, I plan to run Boot Camp with Windows 7 all the time. I prefer the look and feel of the iMac keyboard, but would still prefer a PC keyboard layout, so I my question is this: where can I buy PC keycaps on the iMac keyboard. The keys in questions would be:
    iMac key     PC key
    cmd left       alt
    cmd right     alt gr
    alt left          windows
    alt right        menu
    f13               insert
    f14               print screen
    f15               pause/break
I have found several websites that sell replacement keycaps for iMac keyboards, but I have not found any that sell PC keycaps for iMac keyboards. Any tips?

Thanks, The hatter, but I would prefer to keep the iMac keyboard since I really like its look and feel. No idea where I can buy PC keycaps for it?
I just strikes me, wouldn't this be something Apple could sell to custmers that buy iMacs to use primarily with Windows? I mean, since switching to Intel processors and offering Bootcamp, Windows would as natural a choice for iMac users as OS X?

  • Low battery warning for my iMac keyboard

I keep getting a low battery warning for my iMac keyboard even when it has brand new batteries. Is there a way to switch this off or reset it so that it doesn't keep informing me?

Hello! I also have this problem. My keyboard is brand new and so also the batteries. I have tried with different types of batteries but get the same warning. I also have tried to erase the device in the bluetooth settings and add it again. Nothing works. It is a pity because I like mac.

  • Is the new iMac keyboard (small) the same as the one in the new 15" MBP?

Hi, I have an easy question but I couldn't find any information on the Internet. I just bought a 24" iMac and I was willing to buy a skin for the keyboard (I already have an iSkin for my 15" 2008 MacBook Pro and is great). When I opened the box I had the surprise of a smaller keyboard (without the number keypad). So the skin that I was looking to buy for the imac keyboard did not fit in the new one. My question is, if the iMac keyboard is the same as the one in the new 15" MacBook Pro. I ask this because I can't find a skin for the new small imac keyboard and if it is the same as the MacBook Pro I can buy the skin for that keyboard. But before wasting my money I wanted to be sure they are the same.
Thank you very much in advance

That's no news, although it there are other things apart from the layout that could make them different: the spaces between keys and the format of the keys are also important. As I don't have an new MBP I was wondering if someone could tell me if the keyboard of the imac and the one of the MBP are the same.

  • HT2452 my imac keyboard has stopped working? help!!!

my imac keyboard has stopped working??? help!!!!!

My keyboard just stopped working out of the clear. One minuet OK next it was dead. No little green light at all. New batteries did not help.
FIXED THE PROBLEM!  I took a small piece of aluminum, made a little ball out of it and dropped it down the tube where the batteries go. Replaced the batteries I had just used......little green light comes on and the the keyboard functions like always.
My guess is after a few years the contacts oxidize a bit and don't make contact with the batteries on the bottom of the tube. Give it a try.

I cannoT Type The lower case leTTer T on my iMac keyboard..

Open the Speech pane of System Preferences and check whether either the listening key or the speech key has become set to that keystroke; if so, change the setting.

  • I spilled milk on my imac keyboard

I accidentally spilled milk on my iMacs keyboard.i immediately took out the battery's and let it dry on a paper towel in the sun but I just realized that milk would only stick when it dries and it's the wireless keyboard so I can't even open it without breaking it. I was thinking about putting it in the dishwasher and then letting it dry for a week or so. Is this the right thing to do.
I still see the milk in the inside of the keyboard and it won't come out. My keyboard is the newest ones that are wireless.
What do you think I should do?
    Thank you

You should go out and buy a replacement keyboard. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the chances of your keyboard surviving a milk spill are pretty low.

  • Controlling more aspects of iTunes from an iMac keyboard...

    Hi All,
I've recently switched to using AirPlay to control my home stereo with a Marantz AV7005 pre-amp, and using an Airport Express in my bedroom. I used to use Squeezeboxes, but really like the way that AirPlay works, and love the remote app on my iDevices...
Question: So from my iMac keyboard, can I control more then just previous track, play, and next track if I don't go into iTunes? I'd love to be able to control the remote volume, for example, without first going into iTunes to do it...
Any guide to this? I found the Apple page that shows shortcuts to controlling iTunes when you have it as the currently selected app, but my question is a bit different from that.
    - Thanx in advance!
    - Jon

It would help to know the exact computer you have. For instance, on my MacBook Pro, the keyboard offers function keys that perform some of the basic iTunes controls. Depending on your computer and keyboard, you may or may not have something similar.
I think there a few third-party apps out there that will also do this. I believe I used to have iControl, which worked fine. (I no longer need it with the new MacBook.) You might also find this helpful: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20021121043446531

How about telling us how your keyboard & mouse are not working?  Are both using batteries or are they wired?  If batteries, have you checked and/or changed them?  Keyboard & mouse Apple's or 3rd party?  If you are still under warranty and/or have AC, call them & let Apple deal w/your problems.
If possible, try another keyboard & mouse?
Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting?   Need this info to avoid the been there done that scenarios.

  • My iMac keyboard is lagging when I type. It is driving me crazy. How can I fix it?

My iMac keyboard is lagging when I type. It just recently started doing this and it is driving me crazy. Can someone please help, this is killing me!

    Open System Preferences > Bluetooth
Select the keyboard then click -  (minus) bottom left corner of the window.
Now, restart your Mac, then go back to the Bluetooth preferrence pane and click:  Set Up New Device
If that doesn't help, go to /Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    See if that helped.

  • My iMac keyboard and track pad freeze up

My iMac keyboard and trackpad freeze up on occasion.

I deleted the mouse by selecting it in the bluetooth options and clicking the minus tab. I went ahead and reinstalled OS X right afterwards. Right now I am having to use a USB mouse and keyboard. I disconnected both prior to start up. I get a widow that shows a demonstration on how to install batteries into a wireless mouse only way to pass that screen was to reattach the USB mouse. Then with a fresh startup no resolve.

  • Option Key for Boot Camp not working with New iMac Keyboard

Hi, I own a early 2006 Intel iMac. Recently, my wife complained that the keyboard was getting dirty. Basically I think she liked the new keyboard on the new Aluminum iMac better. We purchased it back in August and everything worked great. Oh I also had the beta version of Boot Camp installed. Everything worked great, hold Option down on boot and could choose which OS to go into.
Fast forward to now, purchased Leopard and love it! Decided to wipe the system and do a fresh install. Everything is installed (Leopard, Boot Camp, Windows XP) and working great, that is except when I press and hold the Option key at start up. If I have the new keyboard installed, the Option key does not bring up the boot manager. However if I plug the original keyboard in and hold Option, it works!!!
Ok I could see a problem if the new keyboard was NOT an Apple product. But it is and frustraiting as I can use the control panel to choose. This is a long round about method and does not make a happy wife with me. HELP!
    Jhan Jensen

Thanks for the info! I was about to call myself and I may still do so. I am hoping if Apple gets enough of these calls then maybe it will spur them on to get it done sooner. (Apple are you listening) I will do the same with the KB swapping, she will be happy at least she can still use the new keyboard. She types a lot and has be really happy with the new keyboard and its response.
    Thanks again for the help!!!

  • Connecting iMac Keyboard to Macbook Pro while using iMac as external display

I'm trying to using my iMac wireless keyboad for my macbook pro while my iMac is in external display mode but I can't get the keyboad to connect. I've tried disconnecting the wireless keyboard from my iMac but it won't go into target display mode without the keyboad. Can I used my iMac wireless keyboard with my Macbook pro while my iMac is being used as an external display?

No, not reliably.  If it's paired with both machines you can turn it off and turn it back on but it's a toss up which machine it will connect with.  If you took it to another room so the iMac didn't see it, you'd have to disconnect the minidisplay port/thunderbolt cable and then it would exit target mode display.
