IMac late 2010 has dead pixels. What are my options?

I bought a 27" iMac Sept. 2010 and in May 2011 I noticed some dead pixels on the bottom left had of my screen. To be honest I'm a little heart broken by this because if I decided to sell it today, I wouldn't get the natural depreciated value because of these dead pixels. I know I wouldn't buy a computer with dead pixels. I do have apple care so I'd like to know what my options are.

  • Old iMac (2007) dead screen; what are my options?

I have an old iMac from 2007, one of the polycarbonate models, running OS X 10.6.8, which recently lost its screen. By "lost," I mean that one night as I was using it, the screen stopped refreshing the image of the show I was watching, and did not change until I manually shut down the computer. Since that time, whenever I turn it on the screen is completely black. Despite this, I still appear to be able to successfully input commands with the keyboard. I haven't consulted a technician yet, but from what I read it seems that the screen data drive is bad; it's not just the backlight.
    My questions are two:
What price range should I look for to get the screen fixed, if that's possible at this point?
What are my options for getting into this mac to perform one last backup?  (I have another iMac from the same era that had another screen problem which eventually rendered it useless, but before it went completely bad I set it up to allow screen sharing over wi-fi, so I can still get into that one, which makes me wonder if I can hack into this iMac through its wifi.)

  • My iPod Touch 4g screen has just cracked - what are my options? Will Apple fix it and how much will it cost?

My ipod touch just slid off the sofa (less than two feet) and fell on its face. The screen is now cracked but the ipod is still functional. Will Apple repair the screen and if so how much would it cost? I think I was told in store that I could get 10% off a new one, but does this include the new 5g model?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • What are some options, in case someone has stolen my device

I need help, my iPod has been stolen, what are some options u recommend me to do, I have tried to located with "find my phone app" but it only tells me is offline, responds as soon as possible

    Not really much

    No app is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    iCloud: Find My iPhone
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If off-line/not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

My iMac (late 2010 model) desktop's hard drive is fried (was about 200GB). How much am I expecting to pay for a new one and retrieve my information?

As you can see Erin, trying to recover information from a hosed drive can be very expensive.
I would suggest first the OWC site as well. You can get a new drive of choice in size there.
I would also get the voyager  http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/VOYQHDB1.0T/
    and..
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Prosoft%20Engineering/DGDR3BUN/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/TOOLKIT11/
Wth your lap top and these folllowing tools your are set to change out the drive, reload OS and then with
the voyager pop in the old iMac drive and with the Prosoft software, try to mount and recover the files. Data Rescue is very good at this " if " the drive is not totally mechanically hosed. Drive Genius is very good at a number of things too. Nothing replaces the old adage of Back Up Back up Back up.
The voyage I listed can become the new backup drive for you.. your choice of tools: Time Machine or by cloning via CarbonCopyCloner or by what I use SuperDuper! IF you want to be really kewl.. both. By that I mean cloning and Time Machine.
It will take you an hour to swap out the drive and spring clean the iMac.. there is a hundred how too,s on you tube.
Hope this helps. Remember if is always when a drive will fail..they all do. I tell the people I support that Harddrives are good for 15 min.. to when they don't work. They will all fail.
Apple Geniuses are very limited to what they can and will do as far as file recovery.
Your best bet is to try to do it your self first. There is lots of help out here and you are not the first.

  • 17" iMac intermittant line of dead pixels

Bought a new 4th gen 17" imac on Aug 13. Aug 15, new imac has horizontal line of "dead" pixels 1/3 of the way from top of screen that goes right across. I say "dead", as they are not truly dead pixels, they are just not displaying correctly. This is a problem that only seems to occur when I wake the computer or the monitor from sleep. It will stay like this for a while, and then it will eventually disappear. The only solution I have found so far is restarting the computer (pain in the butt), but this also seems to fix it self every now and again by pulling up the dashboard or by other random actions (I would rather deal with this ANY DAY over dealing with Vista or any other PC for that matter).
Before going through the ordeal of taking my computer back to Future Shop (Canada's Best Buy) and getting them to look at it (I will be without computer for weeks) has anyone ever experienced this, and do you know of a permanent solution?
On a side note, sometimes (but only sometimes) when this occurs, my dock also will not unhide when I mouse over. I know how to fix that issue, but perhaps these issues are related.

I have a similar problem but my line is not intermittant but is here to stay.

  • My iMac's hard drive is almost full - what are my options?

My beloved iMac is running out of space inside
It says my hard drive has 232.57 GB, and that there's only 18.07 GB remaining. Eeek!
What are my options making more space on my hard drive? I know my biggest problem is iTunes, especially videos. My music library is taking up 6 MB, and videos 78 MB. I'm not tech-savvy in the slightest.
    Somebody help? Thanks!

Using the external drive for more storage works fine. You can use Apple's method for formally changing location of the +iTunes Music+ (which also contains your iTunes videos). However, I use a different way that I like better, because you are not changing the iTunes settings (and you can easily undo it).
    If iTunes is running, quit.
If you are using default settings, the +iTunes Music+ folder should be located at
    <user home folder>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/
First copy this +iTunes Music+ folder to the external drive. Now, you have it in two locations. Change the name of the original folder from +iTunes Music+ to +iTunes Music old+ (or some other name). Make an alias (short cut) of the NEW +iTunes Music+ folder on the external drive. To do this (in case you are not familiar with using aliases) select the NEW +iTunes Music+ folder in a Finder window and
menu bar > File > Make Alias
or drag the folder while holding down Option-Command. You should see the curly arrow next to the icon indicating an alias will be created where you drop it.
Place the alias in the original location of the +iTunes Music+ folder (where you changed the name to +iTunes Music old+)
    <user home folder>/Music/iTunes/
and name it exactly +iTunes Music+ (if you need to rename it). You are making the alias replace the original +iTunes Music+ folder, and have it point to your new +iTunes Music+ folder on the external drive.
When you run iTunes, it should be accessing your new +iTunes Music+ folder on the external, but you are able to keep iTunes using the default settings. To prove to yourself that the new +iTunes Music+ folder is being used, do something like rip a new CD or download a free song from the iTunes Store. Then check that the file ended up on the external drive. You can also do a +Get Info+ on any song or video (in iTunes) and verify that the file location is on the external drive.
(If something goes wrong, just get rid of the alias and rename +iTunes Music old+ back to +iTunes Music+.)
Once you are confident that all of your files are accessible and being accessed from the external drive, you can delete the old +iTunes Music+ folder on the internal drive.
    Separate point...
You should also get another external drive that is at least as large as the filled space on your internal drive and your current external drive. Twice as large would actually be better. So if you have two 250GB drives that you plan to have at most 75% full, a 750GB external drive would be ideal. Then, you can use Time Machine to back up both your internal drive and external drive, to the new external drive. Getting an external drive with both FireWire and USB 2.0 would give you the most flexibility.

  • I bought an iphone secondhand first generation that now has dead pixels. Impossible for me to get it replaced/fixed by Apple?

    As the title says:
I bought an iphone secondhand first generation that now has dead pixels and I'm not sure of the cause. Impossible for me to get it replaced/fixed by Apple? It's obviously more than a year old and there's no added warrantee...

To the best of my recollection, the first-generation iPhone, if that is truly what you have, was never released in Australia, so no, you probably cannot get any service from Apple for that iPhone. You may wish to confirm what model of iPhone you really do have using this information:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939
before you proceed further. Your options will depend on what model of iPhone you really do have, and where that iPhone was originally sold (service is available from Apple only in the country in which the iPhone was originally sold).
    Regards.

  • What are my options considering my phone is pretty much dead?

So today I was carrying my MacBook and my iPhone through my bathroom while txting at the same time. A little slip of the hand and next thing I know my iPhone is in the toilette and I am scrambling to get it out. A few hours later and my phone has gone from originally just not having sound coming from the external speakers to being completely unfunctional. My contract doesn't end until early February, and considering they won't just give me another iPhone 3G, what are my options as far as having to buy a new phone? Would I keep the same contract (I don't want to be locked in for another 2 years with the 3G)? Should I look into going ahead and upgrading to the new iPhone 4? If so, what would I have to pay as far as a termination fee is concerned?
I know its a lot of questions, but any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

My iPhone 3G was "damaged" (result = the wifi stopped working) and out of warranty. When I went to the Apple store, they said they had a "hardware replacement program" and it would cost me 229$. That was only a month ago, so I am waiting to see what happens here(Canada) in terms of the 4. Perhaps, there is something similar in your area.

  • I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I haven't used it in years, but I would like to start. What are my options for getting it up to date? Is it even worth the trouble/cost? I was hoping to at least get it running Snow leopard, if not Lion. Options?

I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I would like to start using it again, however it is so out of date and runs too slowly. What are my options to update it? I really don't want to invest a ton of money - I might as well get a new one, so if there are any reasonable ways to get it to run Snow Leopard or even Lion, please help. I've also considered using a mac mini? Is that worth it either? I'm not sure which way to go here. I don't want to trash it, I feel like it can be a great computer if updated.

Presumably it is running tiger 10.4.11?
It may be able to run Leopard 10.5:

But that is as far as the old PPC Macs can go, and Leopard can cost up to $200 on Amazon.

  • I am running out of space on my imac.  what are my options?

I have had my imac for a few years that came with 500 GB of hard drive space.  I am down to about 94 GB and I'm starting to get nervous that I won't have space pretty soon.  I also have a new 2 TB time machine and don't know if that will help me at all.  What are my options to get more space available to me?  The majority of my files are movies, pictures, and music.

you could move some things that you don't access on a regular basis to an external hard drvive.  You can also download omnidiscsweeper and see if it finds anything you don't need.  Read this too: http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html
