Imac leopard and xp OS - using xp and trying to get a screencapture

imac leopard and xp OS - using xp and trying to get a screencapture.
How do go about doing this?

I am running XP with VPC on my iMac G5 under Leopard.
I had trouble installing Leopard, but with command S and fsck y everything turned out ok.
No trouble at installing VPC on top of Leopard. I had all the original VPC disks.
That said, I do not have any trouble doing a Mac screen shot while in Windows XP. I'm using spaces with windows XP in one and Mac stuff on another one. Takes several seconds for the screen shot to appear on the Mac desktop though.

Leopard and I are getting married!
I've been screwed by it enough times, I figured I should tie the knot.
    Here's my install history:
11 clean installs ending in blue, grey and black screens, beachballs, kernel panics, disappearing users and unbootable hard drives. Some with the login/keychain update.
3 upgrade installs, two from a full up and running production drive image (10.4.10) with software installed, one from a clean 10.4.10 install, all ending in the same manner above.
1 install destroyed (yes, destroyed) a perfectly working 15" 1.25 Aluminum G4's graphics/logic board. 4 years with Tiger, and no problems. Leopard took 4 hours to kill it.
The 14 installs above were on a working (with Tiger) 17" 1.67 Aluminum G4 - all failed.
The last install destroyed the hard drive.
I bought a new hard drive, put it in.
    We have a winner.
Leopard installed. On restart, I started adding apps. Immediately powered off (crash) on sleep. (This invariably happened the first sleep after every install) On restart, the Dock, Finder, and everything else hung and crashed. The PB to be shutdown from Terminal on another Mac (running Tiger). Spotlight had to reindex twice, as the first time was corrupt.
So now, after 5 days, averaging 6-8 hours a day, a dead Powerbook, a dead hard drive, gigs of bandwidth used up at the Apple Forums, and enough alcohol to kill the remainder of my soul, I have a working Leopard install.
At first my friends laughed at me, tried to convert me to Linux, and asked why Apple couldn't get Leopard running on their own hardware, while some rag-tag group of hackers already had it running on generic white box PCs.
This soon turned to pity, as they saw their friend who had previously heralded OS X as the best thing out there, now reduced to reinstall after reinstall.
But five days later, I have a working Leopard install.
My shock that Apple would release this hardware-killin', blue screen makin', alcoholic-inducin' OS in this state is mitigated somewhat now, as five days later, I have a working Leopard install.
I don't trust it. It now runs like greased weasels, but every moment I wait for a blue screen, a beachball, a hung app, a lost user, a destroyed logic board.
I've been through every Kitty. I jumped on 10.0 when it came with my 733 Quicksilver, and realized that this was a diamond in the rough! Jaguar, Panther, and Tiger came, and I was amazed every time. As a early adopter, I avoided many of the pitfalls that seemed to plague others - sure, there were little problems here and there, some incompatibilities, but never like what I've just gone through.
Never. Not even Windows has pistol-whipped me like this.
Leopard has done more damage than it's trail of dead hardware and lost time. It's damaged the trust I had in Apple. The trust to deliver great hardware and software, while making it easy to get my stuff done.
But hey, I have a working Leopard install.
Let's see how long it lasts.

Sorry to "hear" that it went so bad for you.
My issue was the fault of Logitech that use the "APE" (Application Extender) which caused me to have a blue screen after install. Once I found out what caused it, it's the first time I swore something bad about Logitech as I really like their keyboards and mice.
Leopard works great on my iMac. I just wish I could find a way to install it on my 800mhz G4 iMac and PowerBook, both with 1gb of RAM installed but they are just below the qualifying line. I was hoping to be able to install it on them just for TimeMachine for easier backups.
Some have been able to install Leopard on slow machines using them in the target mode and putting the disk in a qualified machine. It might work for you. The speed limitations are "fuzzy" and if you manage to get Leopard installed it might not run as fast as your older machine, but you will have Leopard It might also run OK.

Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
To install OS X  10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks (free upgrade, but currently unavailable) or OS X 10.10 Yosemite (currently available free upgrade) you need one of these Macs:
OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion purchased emailed download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory (I strongly advise, at least, 4 GBs of RAM or more)
8 GB or more of available space
    Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.
    http://roaringapps.com/
If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able to find the latest versions of OS X by clicking on the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password and if you purchased a download code, input that code.
You can then begin the download and installation process of installing the newer versions of OS X from the Mac App Store.

    mono 8 bit 8k is 64kbps, yes. 8 bits times 8,000 = 64,000 = 64k bits/sec.
And yes I think that's a typo - there's no such thing as 'Mone' that I've ever heard of...
But you might want to check to find out if this is a mu-law non-linear format, possibly - there are several ways that 8 bit 8k wav files can be encoded, and typically phone systems don't use linear ones. If you have a log-in to Zultys' user-base system they have an FAQ there, I believe - the answer might be in that, and it won't cost $500.

I've preordered my iPhone 5 from apple and tried to get a sim from o2, they said I couldn't preorder. Does anyone have any information about this?

    Ethmoid,
Generally buying on contract or buying outright from apple with a separate sim from a provider is little difference in cost.
Work out the total cost over 24 months for the phone+monthly tarrif and you will see.
Also the contracts where the phone is cheapest but have a higher monthly cost tend to be the ones that cost you move over a 24 month period.
    For example;
    Using O2 UK as an example (other carriers are very similar). For the iPhone 5 64GB;
From Apple £699, plus O2 On & On £20 per month is £1179
From O2, Phone £249, per month, £41. Total over 24 months is £1,233
From O2, Phone £169, per month, £46. Total over 24 months is £1,273
From O2, Phone £69.99, per month, £63. Total over 24 months is £1,581  <Cheapest phone, most expensive
*These all use the same tarrif of unlimited talk, texts and 1GB data. The only difference is how much you want to pay upfront for the phone*
Also worth noting is buying the phone from apple and the O2 tarrif is only a 12 month tarrif so you're not locked in for 24 months.
As you can see, the cheaper the phone, the more the overall amount you pay.

  • File sharing between iMac Leopard and Vista Laptop!

ok this is my thing, i have an imac (leopard) that is connected wirelesslly and a laptop (vista home premium) that is also connected wirelessly to the same network. im trying to share files between the both so i don't have to use a hard drive every time i want to transfer files from one to the other. what is the process of setting this type of file sharing between the two machines? all wirelessly of course!

Because the iMac and XP are talking, it sound like a Vista sharing thing and the only other help I can offer is to look at these Google Search's:

  • AP802-BOOT-M bootloader mode and trying to get a new image on there

Ok. Dont ask me how I managed to get myself in this state. Surfice to say I was trying to upgrade an IOS image on an integrated 887 wireless router and its AP802GN access point.
The IOS to LWAP conversion did not go well and now I am in the state where I am trying to get the autonomous image back on there.
so I am faced with either this output.

Which when executed only brings me back again to the same output.
I cannot do a show flash:

So I am at the ap: prompt with no understanding as to what to do next as the AP I think has a 10.0.0.1 address and the router it is sitting in has a 192.168.0.1 address.
I also tried to load a new image when it was in the pr

I hear what your are saying but it would appear that whilst the software 7.0.235.0 which is on my 2106 WLC does support the AP802 the actual hardware of the 2106 does not.
I will raise a TAC case tomorrow with Cisco just to make sure but this excerpt from their website is pretty straight forward.
    Cisco 2100 Series Controller
The Cisco 2100 Series Wireless LAN Controllers work with Cisco lightweight access points and the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) to provide system-wide wireless LAN functions. Each controller controls up to 6, 12, or 25 lightweight access points for multiple-controller architectures that are typical of enterprise branch deployments. It may also be used for single controller deployments for small and medium-sized environments.
Caution Do not connect a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) cable to the controller's console port. Doing so may damage the controller.
Note Wait at least 20 seconds before reconnecting an access point to the controller. Otherwise, the controller may fail to detect the device.
    Features Not Supported
This hardware feature is not supported on Cisco 2100 Series Controllers:
•Service port (separate out-of-band management 10/100-Mbps Ethernet interface)
•Cisco 2100 Series Controller does not support the access point AP802.

After waiting a considerable time for Time Machine to restore my whole system, applications and files I had problems in that my Macbook Pro would not restart. The Apple logo appeared but then the screen scrolled down and a lot of letters, numbers and symbols appeared - not making any sense, and a box appeared telling me to restart holding down the on button. This I did. However it kept on repeating. In the end I had to reinstall the whole lot. Fortunately I had backed up all my files. I cannot use some of the programs I have because I cannot retrieve them. I do not have a disk with them on to reload because I downloaded them from the net and they are old progs and still did what I wanted. A lot of files I have saved do not open now without the old system and apps. Can anyone come up with an idea?

    ds store wrote:
Ah that's good to hear, does this still work if TimeMachine updates to reflect the 10.7 drive?
There is no special update.  After installing Lion, Time Machine will do a normal "incremental" backup, of the stuff that's new or changed.  That will be relatively large and lengthy, of course, since OSX and the default Apple apps will all be backed-up.
But there's nothing else different about the TM drive. It stil contains all the past backups, including older versions of OSX.
In other words if a user upgrades to 10.7 and doesn't like it after a few days/weeks, has TM connected and it updated to relfect 10.7, can the user c boot off the 10.6 disk erase and restore 10.6 from the TM drive?
Yes, except you don't have to erase.
You just boot from the Snow Leopard Install disc and do a full system restore.  That includes erasing the destination, so it doesn't matter what's on it.  Then everything on the backup is restored, including OSX, apps, users, data, settings, etc., just as it was at the time of the backup selected.
See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14, especially step (g).  The sample is a bit fuzzy -- it's a photo, since you can't screenprint there, but note that the last two backups were made on Snow Leopard:
Once that's done, and the system restarts, you can use the "Star Wars" display to restore selected items from later (ie, Lion) backups, but of course in some cases (Mail for one), the Snow Leopard apps won't work with the Lion-formatted files.

  • IMac, Leopard, and an HP Photosmart 1315

This is my first Mac and I can't believe I can't even get a printer installed.
I have a HP Photosmart 1315 printer that I can not get to print. I have tried the native OSX drivers, the HP drivers, and 3rd party 'guten' drivers with no luck. It recognizes the printer, looks like it is starting to print, gets to 7% and then goes to "GenericClass: Waiting for device" and just sits there. Now, if I use the HP Utility that installed with the HP drivers I can print test pages, see how much ink is left, calibrate, everything. I just can't get it to print any documents.
Does anyone have one of these printers working on their iMac?

Ensure that it's compatible http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 and you have the latest drivers installed: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&o s=219&product=3192753

  • Just bought a new iMac G5 and trying to use iMovie.

    Hi,
I just bought my first Mac computer a week ago, but i'm having a little trouble using iMovieHD - with the latest update, but i'm having trouble importing an mpeg2 in so that I can edit and do other things with it. I did purchase the mpeg2 componet from Apple, so it does play with Quicktime - also, when I go to import it - the import box comes down, and then goes right back up dissapears - the first time it said "Quicktime couldn't parse it" - whatever that means. Can iMovie not import mpeg2's? or am I doing something wrong? also, when I go to create a project - should I choose "dv" video type?

thanks! I just found that application. it's working fine now - but it made my clip into a widescreen clip - I chose "DV" when I started iMovie - also, I chose "DV" to convert the mpeg2 - maybe that had something to do with it?
    in any case, thanks!
