IMac losing wireless connection when new wireless device is added.

I have a new 2.4 G iMac and have a 5.1 logitech surround set-up with wireless speakers. anytime i turn the speakers on and i'm using my wireless internet, the internet sits; when i turn the speakers off, the internet works as it should.sounds like there's problem with the wireless.

- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- In there, you should be able to navigate around to find a sleep timer.  Some printers have the setting available to the user, some do not.  I am not sure on your model.
While you are in there, you might as well set a static IP address:
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know this, enter the current IP address.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

This subject has been talked/written about a lot, after Lion was introduced. A solution from Apple has not yet been published, everybody is waiting.

  • Msg: You've connected a new Blackberry device, it's been initializing device for over 1 hour

I had Blackberry Desktop Manager Ver 5.x installed. I downloaded the BlackBerry Desktop Software v6.1 software from the link saying that this download was to upgrade existing desktop manager. The installation completed without issues. After starting Version 6.1 for the first time and being asked to connect a blackberry device, I connected my brand new Blackberry Bold 9930. A new window opened that said "You've connected a new BlackBerry device" "Initializing device", and it's been hanging like that for nearly 2 hours. The main window shows the Blackberry correctly seen by model, type and pin and as never synced and never backed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bruce

Although this is advertised as an upgrade to Desktop Manager 5.x, it is really a replacement. It does not upgrade anything, but merely installs the new one. So the first thing you may want to make sure of is whether the old version is still on the computer. Go to your Control Panel on your computer and click Programs and Features. If you see any other BlackBerry Desktop Sfotware version beside the 6.1 then uninstall it. This other version could still be attempting to communicate with your device, causing this issue to occur. Make sure you reboot your computer after this is done. let me know if this helps or if you need any more help.

  • My imac loses wifi connection when it goes to sleep, how to correct?

My iMac loses wif connection when it goes to sleep.  How do I correct?

Are you running OS X Lion? If so there are unfortunately numerous threads on here discussing exactly the same problem. So far there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution, with everyone hoping that Apple will come up with a permanent fix.
Here's a quick search of these forums alone - depressing reading:

This 'fix' has worked for a few people but, unfortunately, not everyone:

  • When connecting ipad to iPhones personal hotspot via wifi it is showin up as 2 connections when only 1 device is connected. Is someone hacking my phone?

When connecting ipad to my iPhones personal hotspot via wifi it is showin up as 2 connections when only 1 device is connected. Is someone hacking my phone? I only figured out I had a problem when my partner did the exact same set up and it showed up as only 1 device connected. I have changed the password and turned it off/on and etc. the really weird thing is now when my ipad is turned off and I turn my iphone personal hotspot on it shows up with 1 connection (when I don't have anything connected) for about 5 secs and then goes off and then 1 device connected for about 5 secs and then back off. This just keeps going on and off. What is going on. Could my phone have a bug or be hacked. Please help as it is kinda freaking me out. Thanks.

    Hello asrt17,
This may occur if your iPhone is connected to your computer via USB, as it will automatically share the connection via USB.
    iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2756
When Personal Hotspot is enabled, your iOS device automatically shares your Internet connection with your computer when connected using USB.
Example: When you connect iPhone to your computer to charge or sync with iTunes. To avoid unnecessary data charges, turn off Personal Hotspot when not in use.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • WRT54G ver 6 router drops all existing connections when new computer joins

    Hello,
I have a WRT54G version 6 Wireless router that operates fine with one exception. I generally connect to the router from one of three laptops in the house. If one laptop is connected, this existing connection drops as soon as another laptop connects to the router. The connections will automatically reconnect in a 10 seconds or so, but it dumps my VPN connection when it disconnects. I am tired of re-establishing the VPN connection everytime this happens.
Any idea why it is doing this? Better yet, how can I get it to stop?
two of the laptops use Windows XP, the third is Vista.
    Thanks,
    DM

I don't know exactly what is causing your problem, but clearly you are having some poor wireless connections.
The first thing to do would be to download and install the latest drivers for all of your computer's wireless adapters.
If you still have the problem, then try the following, more or less in order:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
Some users have reported improved wireless connections by switching to WPA encryption.
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless g routers, try setting the "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Losing broadband connection when Ipod nano connected

Whenever I connect my ipod to my computer, my broadband connection dips out. I am currently using Windows XP. Any suggestions as to why this is happening and any solutions to this would be appreciated. Thanks

How are you connected to your Internet connection - USB, Ethernet, or wireless?
I've noticed that some PCs tend to "reset" the connection to ALL USB devices whenever certain devices, such as iPods, are connected. If you have a USB broadband modem, it could be related to this sort of thing. I'm not really sure if this is an iPod issue at all, but you could try unplugging/replugging your USB modem, or you could try different USB ports on your computer to see if some are on a separate bus.

  • Losing network connection when loading new firmware from iTunes (or syncing

Noticed this when loading 1.1.1 weeks ago and now 1.1.2. Several times during the download/installation process, I lost my network connection. Rebooting the PC restored it, only to have it go down again, requiring another reboot. Required several PC (not iPhone) reboots to be able to complete the process. This happens only during this process -- I otherwise never lose my network connection and always enjoy super speed. Paid it no mind and dismissed as a fluke during 1.1.1 upload, but was surprised to see it again this time. In both cases the final download and install worked perfectly. It's just a time-consuming hassle -- kinda weird -- thx much in advance for any clues about this...

It appears the problem appears only when using torrent software.
There is a lot of discussion on different torrent software forums about this, and directions on how to get around this issue. However with my skills I only managed to get Vuze to work properly while killing the network access from all other application. So i just went back to default settings.
I give up for now, I'll wait until Apple releases OS X update that works together with these programs (like it did in tiger and earlier versions..) or if it's even possible, one of the programs finds a way to get around this issue.

  • How do I send the iPhoto events from my iMac to my iPad when the two devices are connected by USB port?

I connected my iPad to my iMac via USB port.  I want to send my iPhoto events/files to my iPad.  I cannot find the right instructions.  It appears to me that the iPad sync only transmits data from the iPad to the iMac, but I am trying to send iPhotos from the iMac to the iPad.  Do I use export or sync?

You need to use iTunes to sync photos.
Connect your iPad to your computer. Launch iTunes. Select Photos from the menu. Click the Sync button bottom right side of the iTunes window.

  • Imac losing internet connection

Hi my imac keep losing its internet connection, it does this twice in a couple of hours and everytime I put the mac to sleep, I have been into the network settings and put my wifi to the top of the list, but this has not helped. I have Mac OS X version 10.7.5 2.8 GHz intel core i5 and 4GB if that helps. Thank you

I have been having having a similar problem for the last several months. When I turn on my Imac about 70% of the time it does not connect to the network. I have to click on the Airport icon on the menu bar and wait about 5 seconds before my network shows up. Then I can manually connect to the network. Very frustrating.
One thing that has helped others but not myself is changing the multicast rate to the lowest possible setting. (Utilities, Airport Utility, manual, wireless, wireless options).

  • Why does my iMac lose internet connection when importing music via iTunes Home sharing?

Hi, I tried searching for a solution but could not find anything to solve my problem.
I recently purchased an iMac and am attempting to import my iTunes library from my old Windows 7 laptop using the Home sharing function. As far as I can tell, everything works fine - both computers are connected to my wireless network, I can see and connect to the library, I can begin importing my music but after 5 or so minutes my iMac will stop transferring music and I can no longer access any internet sites, even though i seem to be connected to the internet. Turning wifi on and off allows me to access the internet again. I have tried many solutions, but nope seem to have helped. Both computers have the latest version of iTunes. I have tried disabling the firewall on my router, resetting the router, resetting both computers, reopening iTunes.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what could solve the problem? Thank you

I've noticed that Lion automatically reconnects in about 5-10 seconds after being waken from sleep mode.
Make sure that you've set you Network connections up properly in System Preferences and then, after waking from sleep mode, wait to see if it automatically reconnects.
    In System Preferences:
    Network / Wi-Fi:
Make sure "Network Name" is specified.
    Advanced:
Make sure your "Preferred Networks" are specified. (The order is significant).
Also make sure that the "Remember networks this computer has joined" is checked.
Also, you may want to try playing with the "Energy Saver" Settings in System Preferences, perhaps disabling sleep mode but turning off the screen (although I don't prefer this method since it kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a sleep mode IMHO).

  • Losing network connection when computer goes to sleep

I have been putting up with a nagging problem that I hope someone can help solve. (I asked about this earlier and thought the problem had been solved, but it has not.)
Periodically when I start work after my notebook has been asleep, I am asked to reconnect to my wireless network. It doesn’t happen every time, and I have not been able to discover a pattern. I am also asked to re-enter my password, even though it is in my keychain and I always check the “remember this password” box. “Ask to join new networks" is not checked in the Advances pane, "Remember any network this computer has joined" is checked, and in the list of preferred networks, my home network is the top one.
I am not having any problem with the network itself and I am working on the desk where Time Capsule is located.
I am obviously doing something wrong, but what?
    Charles

Are you using TC as your router? Or do you have another router?
If another router, update the firmware for starters.

  • 6 plus losing Safari connection when continuity kicks in

    iMac 27" Late 2013
    iPhone 6 Plus Verizon
Hi, I use my iPhone in close proximity to my iMac when I study Spanish, because I have a flashcard app and typing in Spanish is easier on the iPhone. When I am sitting at my Mac and try to open a page in Safari on my iPhone (say ESPN.com), I see the continuity icon pop up in my Mac tray, but the page will not open up on my iPhone. If I walk away to the kitchen, it works fine. Other apps that do not utilize continuity are not affected unless I try Safari and then go to the app, which renders anything that needs the internet useless until i walk away. Also, on my phone, the bluetooth connection indicator intermittently flashes solid and clear during this issue, but when I check bluetooth on my Mac it only shows my keyboard and mouse as connected. I'm guessing this is a bug, and just trying to report it, but if not, any guesses?

This issue is resolved for me. Apparently there is some kind of software glitch in the update.
    To fix it:
Backup your iphone 6 via iTunes.
Click on "restore iphone" in iTunes
Follow directions to re-install the latest iphone update.
Load recent backup into your iphone or just set up the iphone as new. Choice is yours!
Doing this will fix the random wifi drop issue and the issue of not detecting any wifi network. You're welcome!

  • IMac doesn't startup when new RAM is inserted

    Hi all,
I'm trying to put in more RAM into my 17" iMac w/ OSX 10.4.10. I currently have 512 MB Ram, but want to install 2GB. I have tried several times to get the computer to start but no luck. I have replaced the original 512MB and am posting here with this configuration-so I know that the computer is recognizing it.
I have 2 new Kingston 1GB PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2 notebook modules. I tried just one with the original 512MB configuration and it didn't start up. Anyone have any helpful ideas as to whats going on and how can I get the computer up and running with the new RAM??
    Thanks,
    Vincenso

Sounds like your new RAM chips are not inserted far enough.
I had a similar problem when I installed RAM in a MacBook. You just have to push those chips in a little harder so they are seated correctly.
