Does the gurgling stop when you mute the sound? In other words, is it coming from the speakers? If so, see below.

  • Macbook pro won't turn, and make loud noises

When I was watching a video on my 15inch macbook pro, the screen suddenly turned black and made the click sound that is usually only present in forced shut down.
I then press the power button once, and nothing happened except for another "click" sound as I pressed the power button.
I tried pressing the power button again, and again, the same thing just kept on happening.
Then I pressed the power button down and held it for 5-10 seconds and heard multiple click sounds. After that, my macbook pro successfully turned on.
However, the noise (supposedly from the cooling fans?) kept getting louder and louder. My macbook pro now functions rather normally, but the noise would never go away, which worries me a lot.
Also, I turned it off and tried turning it on again. The same thing happened. I could not turn it on by pressing it once; all i heard was the click sounds. I could only turn it on by holding the power button for more than 5 seconds (also hearing the click sounds multiple times and the loud noise)
Is there something seriously wrong wtih my macbook pro?
and can I make it so I can turn it on normally and not hear the loud noises?
    thanks

You can try running the Apple Hardware Test by booting holding the D key down.

  • File Vault won't stop.  Makes loud noise

When I set up my IMAC G-5 originally, I selected to us File Vault, since I didn't know any better. I haven't opted to have space recaptured for a long time. Last night when asked, I said yes. After an hour of seeing the small circle turning on the light blue screen, the scren went black and a loud noise began, possibly the hard drive turning at full speed without doing anything. That was over 11 hours ago, and now I don't know what to do. I have all id's and passwords, but haven't backed up recently, so I don't want to turn off the machine unless that is the only option. My email address is [email protected] if you respond by email. Thank you

I finally decided to turn off the machine anyway, and nothing was corrupted. I'll now backup the machine, turn off file vault, and recommend to my friends that it is risky to use.

If there is no sound/music playing, computer starts to make white noise (unless muted). After sound/music starts, computer pops speakers/headphones (white noise stops). How can I fix this?

    Hello Stacey,
What all devices do you have connected?
It sounds like a Ground loop... voltage leaking somewhere.

  • App makes loud noise?

  • 20" iMac (white) Superdrive makes loud noise when spinning a disc

When a disc is in the drive and it begins to spin, the drive makes a LOUD humming noise. The noise stops when the disc stops spinning. This has been happening since the first day with my new toy.
Could it be that the drive will need replacing? It is still under warranty.

i would call apple and if they don't have a quick fix make an apptmnt at the genius bar and take the thing in for a replacement. im having the same problem and it really is quite annoying. I really hope apple will replace it with a new drive, this is not what i intended on getting for spending this much money...

  • My iMac makes louder whirring fan noises and gets really hot.

Should I go to the service center and have it checked out?

Before you do, do a SMC reset and download and install iStat Pro (Google it) and post the actual temps.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Imac makes fan noise when it turns off or goes to sleep

    Hello,
I bought a new iMac from bestbuy during the last week of april 2013.
Recently when I turn the iMac off or put it to sleep, it begins to make a loud fan noise at the back above the place where the power goes into the iMac. However, the moment I turn on the computer the sound goes away.
I left the iMac on for a few hours thinking the noise will go away on its own but it didnt. Now I always have to turn off the iMac and take the power out of the wall in order for it to not make noise.
Does anyone know what I can do to solve my problem? I have tried the SMC reset and the Pram reset however it does not seem to do the trick for me.

I would recommend resetting the SMC at least 3x back to back, sometimes it does not work the first time. If you don't know how please navigate to https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3603 for detailed instructions. If that does not help, you have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone coverage or if you already bought AppleCare (VERY STONGLY RECOMMENDED) this will extend your 1 year warranty to 3 years and includes 3 years of  phone support. If you are in the USA you can buy it from B&H Photo for as little as $122 vs. at BBY or Apple for $169.

  • Fan starts to make loud noise when watching youtube videos

Hello there, I have been having a problem with my Macbook Pro for a while and I hope I can find some help here. My Macbook Pro has the problem that when I am watching youtube videos and I have the fullscreen option on, if the video is lasts, say more then 4 min or so, then after a while the fans start to kick in and they keep getting louder and louder for no reason.
It also does this sometimes when I open the spotlight to search for something, although that hasnt happened as much lately. But this is really getting annoying, I mean, why would a simple video from youtube, make the mac go all crazy as if I was rendering or exporting video, its nuts. I have all the updates installed too.
I also went to an Apple store, and of course when I try to show the person the issue I have, the macbook pro works just fine! Its somewhat random. I told the guy that I have Applecare and if they could just hold onto the machine and test it out themselfs and the guy tells me, that I have to pay THEM for this service if they dont find anything. What the? Is it my fault if the issue doesnt come up during their suposed testing time? What if they just dont do anything to it, and then say they dont find anything, and im suposed to pay for this even though I have Applecare? There must be something wrong.
Anyway, I really appreciate any help and guidance I can get on this issue. Btw, my Macbook Pro is the second generation one, the one with Intel Duo Core 2, 2.33 ghz, 2 GB ram and the ATI video card. I also recently ran Disc Utility from the install disc and I repaired some issues on the HD, but its still the same.
Thank you for reading and (hopefully) responding to this topic.

Thank you for the replies. I have just downloaded the iStat Widget and I noticed that the fans were at about 2800-2900 rpm and the sound wasnt noticable, I then played a youtube video that lasts for 5 min, although already on the 1 min mark the fans were getting louder when running in full-screen mode. I then checked iStat and it peaked at around 5994 rpm. I then stopped the full screen viewing and it went back to 3000 rpm after a while, and now it seems to be locked at 2400 rpm.
What I dont get is, why is it that when I play videos from my hard drive and watch movies, even in full screen mode, it doesnt get near 5990 rpm at any point, at least I dont notice any loud fan sounds. Although that has happened when I watched a HD video from my desktop that lasted about 6 min, but the fans didnt go as loud as right now.
Also, a few days ago, I was playing a small flash game on the net, and I got the same problem with the fans as with the youtube videos. I read that youtube uses flash, is this right? Could there be something on this? I have downloaded the latest flash player version though, so I dont know whats going on.

  • T61p : Quadro FX570M makes loud noise on speakers

    Hi,
I have installed RenderMonkey from AMD on my PC,
Whenever i launch the preview, the speakers starts buzzing and it's very annoying.
Much louder than noises i have been hearing (see my previous post).
The CPU usage is almost null, and the laptop isn't hot at all.
Also, you can hear different flavors of the noise when changing my power plan.
It seems that some of the noise come strictly from the GPU.
Do you have any idea ?
    Thank you.

I did not, but it didn't fix it either. :-(
It is really weird, I am going to investigate this tomorrow !

  • Satellite P10-804: AC adapter makes loud noises

The power supply is periodically making terrible noises.
Can it be replaced with a non Toshiba power adaptor ?
If yes, is there anything I need to know ?

Looks like an AC adaptor would be faulty or maybe its only a broken cable.
However, you should not use an AC adaptor which malfunctions. Its too risky
So I would recommend using an original Toshiba AC adapter. In such case you are always on the safe side.
You could use the PA3290U-1ACA AC Adapter 120W with 19V DC output

  • Superdrive isn't working, makes loud noise and doesn't read anything....

My superdrive isn't reading anything. I was wondering if anyone knows of what to do. I'm not under the apple protection plan anymore. So if I go to apple they are going to hammer me with labor costs. Maybe someone knows of a good external CD/DVD Burner that will work with iTunes, iPhoto, and iDVD. PLEASE HELP!!! Thankz in advance.

I am getting the exact same error, nothing I do can solve it. I cannot believe it's coincidence that all our drives were due to fail and happen to go at the same time mavericks was installed. So can only surmise it's a as yet unresolved software issue. But worried about spending money on a new drive if it makes no difference.
    Cheers

  • My iMac OSX 10.6 makes grinding noises.

My iMac makes loud humming/grinding noises whether or not I'm doing anything on it.  Is this normal?

That's a sound of a failing boot hard drive which is typical in iMac's as they overheat easily.
Backup just your users files off the machine as soon as possible and take the iMac to authorized apple repair.

  • IMac DVD Drive--Loud Noises

Recently my iMac DVD drive has begun to make loud noises when a disc is inserted. The loud whirring, spinning, and clicking noises last for about a minute to two minutes before the DVD finally ejects (after many attempts). Nothing plays, the sounds just automatically start. I've read that lower quality/damaged discs can cause similar sounds, but I have used two different DVDs and get the same result when one has worked perfectly before. Is anyone aware of what the problem might be or how to fix it?
    Thank you!
    Christie
