IMac (Mid 2011) Does not wake up after long sleep

Hi People,
Having issues with my Mid2011 iMac (21,5", 2.7GHz). Just upgraded to 12GB RAM (2x2GB original + 2x4GB). System runs fine, no issues.
But when system goes to sleep for a longer period (a few hours) it will not wake up again. Neither by Keyboard/Mouse interaction (Bluetooth as well as USB) nor by pushing the powerbutton. I also performed the PRAM and SMC reset as described in the apple support resources.
Feeling a bit lost. Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Addition:
Performed a test of the RAM with memtest. No erros found. Also forget to mention that the Mac has also Software updates and firmware updates installed.

  • ARD 3.3 Will not Wake Machine After Long Sleep

We are using ARD 3.3 on our network. We have found that ARD will not wake machines after they have gone to sleep and stayed in that state overnight. If I manually wake the machine and put it to sleep, it works fine. If I wake the machine and put it to sleep for several hours, it still works fine. The problem is completely random and only seems to happen when the machines have been asleep overnight. There are three machines this occurs with, I will describe each one below. I have a sneaky suspicion that it is our Firewall appliance causing the problem, but would appreciate any other input...
    Machine #1
    Intel Imac 2.8Ghz core-duo
    OS X 10.5.8
    4GB 667mhz DDR2 SDRAM
Problem: Occurs 98% of the time and is very consistent on this machine
    Machine #2
    PPC G5 Imac 1.9Ghz
    OS X 10.4.11
    1.5GB SDRAM
Problem occurs about once a week to once every other week with this machine
    Machine #3
    Intel Imac 2Ghz Core Duo
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
    2GB 1067Mhz DDR3
Problem occurs once in a blue moon
I have tried the following troubleshooting steps with machine #1 because it seems to have the problem so much...
    1. Tried another user account
    2. Tried removing power management plist located in HD --> Library --> Preferences --> Systemconfig
    3. Tried resetting the SMU
    4. Tried to repair disk permissions
    5. Ran FSCK -FY from single user mode
    6. Ran AHT for 17 hours straight with no errors
    7. Booted to clean install of OS on external FW drive with user ported to FW drive.
BTW: Our firewall appliance is an Snapgear SG560 with the latest firmware.
Thanks for any input much appreciated...

I cannot wake up any computers even if asleep for a few seconds. ARD 3.3 has broken a lot of features such as copying files by dragging from a remote connection to desktop and it no longer reports Current Status correctly.
AWFUL update. Apple please fix this or explain how to downgrade to 3.2
I can no longer use this in the school where I supervise 50 Macs.

  • My iMac (mid-2011) does not start and AHT is OK

I had a similar issue last June and after I carried my iMac to Genius bar, they decided to replace the HDD on warranty. It solved partially the issue but after uninstalling flah player, everything was fine. So, 3 days ago, when this problem occured again, I uninstalled and reinstalled flash player.
But this time, it solved the problem only for one day (it should mean that is is not related to 'Flash"), and I have not been able to start it ever since.
I tried all kinds of resets and ran a bunch of tests with no result.
When I do the AHT (Apple Hardware Test) from disc2 , result is perfect and AHT does not find any hardware problem.
I tried to boot from disc1 (installation disc) but no way to boot. It could be that I  have updated OSX 10.6 to Lion 10.7 and disc is 10.6???
It seems I am stucked. Any idea will be welcome

Have you tried a safe boot, by holding the shift key down as you boot?  That will take longer than a regular boot, as it's doing some disk maintenance. If that works, try a normal boot.

When I want to do something like go out then I close the Lid and then I can't get the laptop to wake up again, I have tried some stuff but nothing seem to work.
I don??t use Toshiba Power Save, I use the usual-normal XP energy and I even tried with Toshiba Power saver but not the software only from Start> Control Panel > but still the laptop does not wake up after I closed the Lid down.
Anyone that can help me with this issue?

Does anyone else experience these problems and/or have solutions

    Hello ROBLAHAY,
I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your MacBook Air. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact configuration you are describing. If you are talking about using two external Thunderbolt displays (in addition to the internal display) with your Mid 2011 MacBook Air 11-inch, you may want to be aware that only a single external Thunderbolt display is supported on that model, as noted in the following article:
    3. How many Apple Thunderbolt Displays can I use with my Mac in OS X?
The table below indicates how many Thunderbolt displays can be connected to Thunderbolt-capable Mac computers in OS X.

    Maximum connected displays
Thunderbolt-capable Macs with Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated graphics can support one connected Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch).
    MacBook Air (Mid 2011)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) and (13-inch, Late 2011)1

  • 24" iMac mid 2007 does not read full 4GB Memory

I brought a used 24" iMac mid 2007 with 2GB (one stick of 2GB in one slot) so I brought another 2GB stick same specs as the other one and my mac show only 3GB? Does anyone know the problem? Im running Mountain Lion and all updates has been made to the system.

Apple only offically supports 4GB of RAM however on my late 2007 iMac I have had 6GB running for about 3 years and it has never given problems. I'd recommend buying the 6GB kit from www.macsale.com. The exact address is:

  • New powerbook does not wake properly from sae sleep

    Hi
Since the battery update my new powerbook is not waking correctly from safe sleep. The grey screen shows it "rebooting", and then the last screen I was on appears, but the machine does not respond to trackpad/keyboard input, nor does the clock update etc.
A friend has the same problem with his. Is this a common issue for people? Any ideas of how to resolve it?
This means it is it effectively impossible to calibrate the battery.
    Many thanks
    Rhys

I am having the same problem.
The battery runs low and eventually the PB puts itself to sleep.
I plug in the AC adapter then press the power button and it wakes up as normal (via Safe Sleep - white wash screen etc.)
But then once it has started it does not respond to anything on the trackpad or keyboard (even bluetooth keyboard). Only the power button works.
I have tried resetting the PMU but that has had no effect.
At the moment I just have to plug the PB in before it puts itself to sleep.

  • My Mac Pro (8-core) does not wake up after sleep

The most times my mac pro goes to sleep he won't wake up on hitting the keyboard or the power button. There is some noise as if the harddisc is waking up but the screen stays dark and the power light which first lightens up and down like in sleep modus is fully lightened. Yesterday when I started up my Mac Pro I noticed that it sure seemed loud. I normally never shut it off, so I hadn't noticed that it was getting pretty loud. Then, for the first time since I've been having the wake up problem, it went to sleep as I was surfing the web. This time instead of just shutting it off and restarting, I decided to reset the SMC. I then figured since I had everything disconnected I'd take a look at the GPU and clean the dust out of it. After vacuuming, being real careful to not fry anything with static, I put it into a different slot than before. Plugged everything back in and started it up. First thing I noticed was the volume of the GPU fan was much quieter than it has ever been, no joke. I haven't shut it off in almost 24 hours and it hasn't gone to sleep at all. I've read other posts on the net that claimed the SMC reset and moving the card to a different slot didn't fix the problem for very long, so I'm hoping that isn't what fixed it. I'm hoping it was just dirty, as I have already had to replace 2 GPU's in 2 years and I can find many other things to spend money on. Now more than ever since the only card I'd want that Apple offers is $460. I hope this helps you, and me for that matter.

  • MacBook Pro 13" (2011) will not wake up after it goes to sleep.

My new MacBook Pro goes to sleep like normal and then when I try to turn it back on the screen just stays black. I have turned off the put hard drive to sleep button and it is still doing it.

@hinote80:  I ran into a wake problem with my new 17" MacBook Pro (early 2011).  At first, I did the shutdown via the power button and then a restart, but that wasn't something I wanted to keep doing.  I had also tried tapping on various keys on the keyboard but none of them seemed to wake it up (that approach always worked on my nearly 6-year-old PowerBook).  I also tried moving around the Bluetooth Mighty Mouse (that I have paired with the MBP laptop) but that didn't work either.
While searching for another approach, I happened to click once on the mouse and that seemed to wake up the laptop everytime.  So, now I'm doing that.  If you don't have a mouse, maybe just tapping the scrollpad once (as if doing a click) would have the same effect.  worth a try.

  • Monitor does not wake up after powersave

Inside my app (Full screen mode) I use PostMessage

I use 2 monitors connected to GPU, Windows  8, directx9. Furthermore, I see that after sending the command to wake up the monitor (monitor still shows black) IDirect3DSwapCain9* is Null.

  • C310 Does not wake up from Energy Sleep mode

Printer wont wake up from Sleep mode. I have to unplug the printer from the electrical plug. Then it connects Wireless to my network. This Piece of {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} is about to find its way back to the store and I'm going to look at another brand. I have had HP for quite some time. I need Help and don't tell me to call Support unless you can give me someone in AMERICA that speaks english fluently

Me too, I have had the same problem.  Numerous hours spent on the phone with HP Support.  Tried sequence to get into special support mode but it didn't work.  This is my second C310 that has had this problem.  I returned my original new one that I bought on HP's shopper site when support determined it was bad.  It had the same issue.  The last call I made to support they told me just ot wait for new firmware that is supposed to fix this.  The do not have any idea when this firmware might be ready.  They said just to wait.  I have used only HP printers for over 15 years because I believed they were the best printers.  I have told several customers, friends, etc to buy only HP printerst, that they were the best.  Not so sure I will think that anymore now.  We'll see if we ever get that firmware and it works how I feel about HP printers.  I really hope it works out but I am tired of waiting.

  • Nano 6G does not wake up from the sleep timer in the same audiobook/track

My Nano 5G sleep timer will shutdown at the specified time and when I wake it, the Nano will be at the same track and position of my audiobook.
However, my Nano 6G will wake up in a random song as if it shuffled after the shutdown. I test by setting the sleep timer to one minute and play a book.
Is there a setting I have missed? I use ITunes to set the option to remember the position. This happens to my Audible.com books and my MP3 books.
I have Shake to Shuffle OFF. I have done a full firmware restore.
