IMac mini displayport not functioning...

I recently purchased a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter and 30' HDMI cable to connect my iMac to my 42" Panasonic TV. It worked at first, and then suddenly didn't. I believe I upgraded from OS 10.6.7 to 10.6.8 in between it working and not, could that be the problem? I know the problem is not the cable as I tested it with my XBOX. I don't have a way of telling whether or not it is the adapter itself though though. When it plug it in, there is no blue screen on the iMac like there was at first. When I click 'Detect Displays' nothing happens. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Try doing a SMC Reset:
SMC RESET

Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.

  • Mini DisplayPorts not functional

    Hey all.
To start off here are my system specs:
    Intel I5 2500
    MSI Z77-G65 Gaming
MSI R7770 OC (2PMDIGD5) <-This baby of mine is the problem here I believe!
    Thermaltake 450W (Litepower 450W)
    8Gb DDR3 Apacer Ram
    Windows 7 64Bit
Not sure what else you would like to know?
So I recently managed to get my hands on 3 23" Samsung LED Monitors so I though I would give Eyefinity a try. I bought the Active Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (HDMI because I already had an HDMI cable). Sadly enough I got no signal at all from the Mini DP to the monitors (I tried 2 of the 3). I then thought it was the adapter so I bought another one, which also proceeded not to work :(. So far I have re-installed all the drivers from the AMD site and tried this card in another system that was running XP, so it required different drivers (incase the drivers had a fault...). So now I am stuck. Is there anybody who could help me here with some suggestions :D?
Oh and I am running one monitor through DVI, one through HDMI and I needed the Mini DP for the last one :/
At the moment I am even willing to buy some "Magic potion" and drink it before starting up my PC again...

ok the way you have it configured it will not like due to you using the HDMI and DVI port on the card!
for 3 you need to run DVI+MDP+MDP or it will fail! so get 2 adapters for active MDP to HDMI and put the 2 HDMI's into the adapters!
DVI + DVI + MDP is another option.
A dual-link DVI splitter cable is needed in this case.

  • IMac 2011 Mini Displayport not displaying 1080p

    Hi all,
So my 2011 21.5'  iMac is only allowing me to display at 1080i with my mini displayport  to HDMI adapter. When I go up to 1080p the TV has no signal.
To check that the TV was able to show 1080p, I connected it to my 2009 macbook pro and sure enough it can display in 1080p. So now I am
sure it is not the TV, but the computer. I'm using a monoprice adapter bought in 2009 before thunderbolt was available. Could my problem be solved
    by buying an updated adapter?
This is what I'm looking at:

    Hi Eric,

I'd certainly give it a try.

  • Mini displayport not working for DVI (VGA works)

So I've just received my new MacBook Pro, I ordered it with a mini displayport to DVI dongle.
When I plug this in to my known good DVI monitor, nothing happens no video is sent to the display and the preferences do not show anything.
However when I connect using a displayport to VGA to a VGA monitor it works. I know the displayport adapter is good as I have it working on my 27" iMac.
Could this new MacBook Pro be faulty??
    Cheers,
    ---Guy

Hey. I think there's a big problem with the mini displayport - DVI signal. I have a samsung T220HD monitor which worked fine with my old Macbook. I upgraded to a MBP 15" and I find the same monitor just has dead signal. Aside from the MBP itself, the differences are Snow Leopard and the mini displayport adaptor. I too ordered the adaptor with the MBP but on finding this and reading so many problems on discussions I opted to buy a mini displayport - HDMI adaptor made by NEET - which solved the problem.
However, some wierd things happen when playing games. Resolution (which is otherwise fine) goes dark and displays ugly artifacts. This never happened with the same monitor on a DVI signal using the mini DVI - DVI. I'm guessing either all this is a Snow L prob or a mini displayport thing.
It looks like a recent OS update (10.6.2) was supposed to fix DVI issues but apparently not for me. Apple really really need to sort this out.

  • Can Adobe Premiere run on 2013 Mac Book Pro (thunderbolt port) and display on 2010 iMac (Mini DisplayPort) using TDM. TB cable   Opt. F2 didn't work. Will a Mini Display cable work?

I need to work on Adobe Premiere on my 2013 Mac Book Pro (with thunderbolt port) and display it on my 2010 iMac (with Mini DisplayPort) using Target Display Mode (TDM). I tried using a thunderbolt cable plus Option F2, but it didn't work. Will a Mini Display cable work? Any other suggestions?

2010 iMacs do not have Thunderbolt, they have mini-display ports. You are using the wrong connection, you need a mini display port to mini display port. Please read up on what Apple says in Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Late 2009 iMac Mini DisplayPort video input

Supposedly you can connect a video source to the MDP port, rather opposite of it's traditional use on older models. I see no option in System Preferences - displays that mentions switching to this new input. Does the Mac auto sense a signal here and switch to in automatically? Does the manufacturers of MDP to HDMI adapters have anything to say if their devices work bidirectionally? And if they do support joined audio over HDMI like some do, then again do they do that bidirectionally. Of course this is a Apple forum and Apple moderators can't speak about 3rd party products, but they could tell us how video in would work from either a setup TV tuner box or a blu-ray player.

This is a user to user forum. There is no moderator participation explaining anything, just we users are here for that.
Many things about Macs are auto-detected by them and when detected the appropriate preferences appear as if by magic. Someone with a new iMac who has successfully connected to an input source would be able to say definitively if the preferences change.
As for what can be hooked up to the port and used, most of the adapters of which you refer are uni-directional, designed for video output only. Apple states explicitly in the webpages describing the new iMacs and their features that the port accepts a signal from another device with a mini-DisplayPort only. So if you have a Mac laptop with a m-DP you can hook it to your new iMac as the monitor with a m-DP to m-DP cable. Apple sells one made by Belkin in the Apple Store.
The other thing about the m-DP is that is does not carry audio. So the idea of hooking it up to a Blu-Ray player is still just a hyped idea. However, it appears that Belkin is developing a black box to facilitate this idea. Earlier in the week some folks here in the forum linked a Belkin website page with an HDMI to m-DP adapter to convert an HDMI signal to m-DP input. Later this week Belkin took down the page, so perhaps it is not yet ready for production and sales! On one side is an HDMI input. Coming out the other side is both a m-DP and a USB port. I think that the black box separated the signal into audio, to send to the Mac over USB and video, to send to the Mac over m-DP. The USB port could also supply any power the box may need to its job.

  • Mini displayport not recognized in Windows 7 on MBP mid 2012

    Hi
I have a MBPro mid 2012 with windows 7 pro installed. While i'm in windows my mini displayport is not recognized when i connect it to my smart tv. The connector i use is a Logilink Mini Displayport to HDMI. In Mavericks it works fine though. Anyone can point me in the direction of the right driver to install in windows?
    Thanks

    Hi Chocolame,
I have the same issue as yours, and looked into this thread
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4904594?start=0&tstart=0
I believe it solved their problem. I am currently downloading Bootcamp 4.0xxxx and hope it'll solve my problem.
Give it a try and let us know if it works!
    Thanks

  • IMac mini displayport blank display on boot

I work in a school and we use iMacs as classroom machines for teachers. The iMacs are plugged in to vga projectors and are setup to clone in Windows. This worked fine on all our iMacs with mini dvi ports. We've just bought two lots of new iMacs with mini displayport connectors. The first lot came requiring a firmware update, the second lot were already up to date. The first lot seem to have issues where they forget that the projector is connected. The only way to get them to recognise the projector again is to unplug and replug the adaptor. This is a minor annoyance but tolerable - although the old dvi port iMacs just pick up the projector and adjust the resolution automatically. The second lot which came with the most recent firmware pre-installed seem to get stuck booting Windows when the displayport to vga adaptor is plugged in. It gets to the black screen (before the Windows logo appears) and then stops. Pressing enter seems to get it past this and continue the boot process - as if it needs some kind of user input. This is more of an annoyance because it makes doing updates remotely which require a reboot impossible and expecting staff to remember to boot their computers without the adaptor plugged in seems a bit ridiculous. I've tried updating to the latest NVIDIA drivers but the problem persists. Has anybody experienced this and does anybody have a solution?

So this is weird, playing around with the brightness controls seems to have fixed the problem - And yes I did try that yesterday but for some reason today that did the trick.

  • New iMac mini DisplayPort to Panasonic Viera HDMI overrides Viera Link Soundbar

I've just bought a new iMac 27 inch. I've connected it to my Panasonic Viera TV via a Belkin Mini DisplayPort and Belkin HDMI 5m cable into the tv's HDMI port. The Viera Link Soundbar is connected via the ARC HDMI2 port. When the imac HDMI is connected to the TV it seems to override the ARC Viera Link and cuts out the normal TV out put even when the settings to the TV are switched of on the imac.  It's really difficult to explain.

Yes but is there way to leave it plugged in but disable it somehow? I don't want to have to plug and unplug the HDMI cable. Would Apple TV fix this issue?

  • DisplayPort not functional in 2008 MP with GT120 and GTX285

    Hi all,
I've searched the forums, but with no luck.
I can't get any sort of signal out of the Mini-DisplayPort of my GT 120 in my 2008 Mac Pro.
    I've tried the following:
Mini-DP to DVI adapter -> DVI -> Display
Mini-DP to DVI adapter -> DVI to VGA adapter -> VGA -> Display
Mini-DP to VGA adapter -> VGA -> Display
Mini-DP to VGA adapter -> VGA to DVI adapter -> DVI -> Display
I know some of those configurations are plain ridiculous - but what really is the ridiculous thing is that the DisplayPort just +doesn't work+.
    Any ideas?
Could it be conflicting with the GTX 285?
I'm running all the latest updates and drivers for everything.
    Many thanks,
    Robert

The Dell and Sony Bravia work fine off the GTX 285, as well as the DVI port of the GT 120. It's purely the DisplayPort that refuses to play ball with anything.
Considering how DVI-D is just DVI-D, I don't know how there can be any discrepancies between manufactures to the end result of them just not working with each other. Madness.
I do have a Gefen DVI Switcher laying around, so I may as well use that off the DVI port of the GT 120, and switch between my third monitor (the Dell) and the Sony Bravia. I'd only use the Bravia when I'm not sitting at the Mac, so loosing a display temporarily isn't a problem.

  • Audio and Mini DisplayPort on Late 2009 iMac (27")

I have a Late 2009  27" iMac and a 42" HDTV that I would love to hook up with eachother so I can start using Plex-and-the-likes on the bigger screen.
But I'm wondering if the Mini DisplayPort of this iMac supports audio, as I do not want my sound to come from the other side of the room when watching stuff on the TV.
I've been reading around on the net, but I can't seem to find anything conclusive that tells me that it works (some discussions and thread claim that it should work, but some official documentation regarding the Late 2009 and Mid 2010 iMacs (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3913) only mentions the Mid 2010 one with audio output in the Mini DisplayPort
Not sure if it matters, but I'm running a fully up-to-date OS X Lion.
    Thanks in advance.

According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241, your late 2009 iMac's displayport should support hdmi audio output, (but I have no idea whether there might be OS-X version limitations).
Here are two attractive alternatives to the spendy apple-referenced adapters. I can't vouch for them, but they have great user reviews, and very low-risk pricing.  (I just ordered one of each to try with my MBP and new HDTV -- but neither the adapters nor the TV have been delivered yet.)
    miniDP-to-hdmi adapter from monoprice.com @ $6.65
    miniDP-to-hdmi cable from amazon.com @ $8.67
Another interesting thought would be to skip the miniDP entirely and go with USB-to-hdmi, with an adapter that sounds almost too good to be true.  Any comments on this technology (displaylink) would be much appreciated:

  • HT3924 mini displayport cable / thunderbolt cable

the mini displayport cable is the same as the thunderbolt cable?
I try connect my imac [mini displayport] (mid 2010) as external display with mac air [thunderbolt port] (early 2011)

A mini-DisplayPort cable and a Thunderbolt cable are not the same. If you wish to use Target Display Mode and your older iMac will be the "external display", a mini-DisplayPort cable should work. See:
