Imac monitor turns off but the imac continues to operate

I have problem with my imac 27 "i5 2.7 ghz 4gb of ram with video card AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB bought used not under warranty.
In practice, for the first 2 days no problem but then suddenly began to fade with the monitor frequency is not standardized.
I am sure that is not to shut down the mac because the mac but the monitor continues to make sounds when you turn off.
I've tried both to reset the PRAM is to initialize it with os x 10.8 (2 times with updates) and also installing windows 8 but nothing for the first few days but then here goes the problem recur please help me.

Sound like a hardware issue but this is tough to tell. Run Apple's Hardware Test in extended mode at least 2-3 times. If errors appear you have confirmed a hardware issue and the machine needs to go in for service.

  • IMac display turns off but computer doesn't sleep.

After upgrading to Mavericks I've noticed a problem where my iMac display will turn off but the computer will never enter into actuall sleep mode, I know this because I can constantly hear the fan humming. I have the Energy Saver settings set to sleep the display after 10 minutes and sleep the computer after 15 minutes. However even well after 15 minutes of inactivity (and the display long having turned off) I can still hear that the computer is not sleeping due to the fans still being on.
I decided the troubleshoot the problem using a Terminal command and I was able to narrow it down to single potential cause. According to "PreventUserIdleSystemSleep" the problem stems from a "URLConnection in progress" issue. How does one go about determining what is causing the URL Connection so I can kill the prompt and see if that solves the sleeping issue?
Here's a screen shot of the Terminal output:
Also, if I choose "sleep" from the Apple Menu, the iMac will go to sleep as normal (fans and harddrive sleep).

This is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Nano and no silver from the plug can still be seen.
If you are 100% positive that the earbuds are all the way in, double check to make sure the headphone jack is clean and clear of debris and/or damage.

  • My iMac wont turn off after the recent update

Just installed the recent update couple nights ago (did the update at night, ended up going to bed before it finished). And this morning tried to turn on my iMac and it just goes to the Apple logo with the loading bar screen. After a minute it shuts itself off.
I've tried to command-option-p-r it, that didn't work.
I don't have a disk to reformat it with (the "press C" option).
I have also tried the "press shift" option - doesn't work
My dang serial number on the bottom of the screen has a scratch through it so I'm not too sure what the first couple letter/numbers are... But I did take a picture of it anyways.
I've unplugged my external hard drive to see if it would start without it.
im not to sure what other options are; ive tried calling Apple support but they need my serial number. Which I can't even start it up to get the information.
    please help!

  • [S]iMac with additional monitor: built-in monitor turns off at startup

    Hi,
I'm using an iMac Intel (2007) with an external monitor. I used to have the external one on the left and the iMac on the right.
Everything was fine until today, when I *just* moved external monitor on the right and changed my xrandr script like this:
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1680x1050 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --output DIN --off --output DVI-0 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 1680x0 --rotate normal
The thing is that now when I turn on the computer the built in monitor turns off as the startup process reaches the Xorg phase.
Do you have any ideas about why this happens?
I didn't touch the Xorg configuration at all, when I installed the system both monitors were recognized correctly.
    Thanks in advance!

  • IMac display turning off again 10 seconds after system wake

Ever since I've updated my 27" Late 2009 iMac to Lion, I'm observing a strange behavior when waking the machine from sleep:
It wakes up normally, spinning up the harddrive, turning on the display and responding to input just fine.
Then roughly 10 seconds after the wake, the display suddenly falls asleep (turning off) but the machine itself stays awake
I can get the display back on without issue by clicking the trackpad.
This consistently happens when I wake up the iMac.
I usually put it to sleep using the Cmd-Alt-Eject keyboard shortcut. Wake on network is on, so it will have been through a few RTC wake cycles by the time I wake it up from the keyboard.
Is anybody else observing this behavior?

Still happens every day after updating to 10.7.3

  • My imac G5 turns off on mi then dont want to turn back on at all but after one day turns on mormaly then turns back off again

my imac G5 turns off on mi and dont want to turn back on at all but nex day tuns on normaly then tuns back off again

It could be several possible issues.
    1)  Your G5 iMac could be overheating.  Depending on which model, you might be able to open the back by yourself (not on an iSight model), and using a can of compressed air, youcould blow the dust out of it.
    2)  The power supply could be going bad.
    3)  The hard drive could be going bad.
    There could be several others.
If you have the original, came with the iMac when purchased new Install Disks, you can try running the Apple Hardware Test to see if it can determine any hardware issues.  It can't always find the problem.
    Good luck.

Press any key on the wireless keyboard after you close the MBP and it goes to sleep. The computer will wake up with the external monitor as its display. This is called Clamshell mode.

  • IMac just stops, turns off like the plug was pulled.

My iMac is a 17in G5, running 10.3.9, with 2MB of aftermarket RAM installed (by me over a year ago) and lately, it just turns off. It doesn't freeze, and it doesn't warn me. It just turns off like the plug was pulled. When I try to start it back up, no problem. Boots back up like normal....though if you look closely, a little "?" appears ever so quickly in the folder in the middle of the screen before I see the Mac happy face.
I bought it new new 3.5 years ago (no more apple care) and it has lived a pretty easy life, until my little one started walking and climbing. Since then, my little guy has turned the power strip off probably 20 or 30 times, thus killing power to the computer without shutting it down properly. Also, I am encountering a seeminly unrelated problem with my disc drive. It no longer runs or burns DVDs. CDs, no problem. DVDs, no comprendo.
    Things I have tried.
I bought an external DVD drive. One problem fixed. For the random shut donw problem, the only thing I could think to do was to unplug everything, wait 15 minutes, and then plug everything back in. That made no difference.
Anybody have a suggestion? Is my computer nearing the end of its life? So soon? Right after apple care expired? Oh no!
    thanks for any help,
    Adam

sorry for the format - my 1st question...

    thanks Kappy.
the computer has beem working for years after my 1st ram removal; but i may have pushed them back too hard. i did pull firmly - tried pulling up slightly; tried tugging on the sides of the stick; pulling in pulses. the only thing i have not tried is using needle nose plyers with protection on the tab film itself.
have you had the pulling harder ever work? or break the tab?
