Imac monitor turns off while working

Hi everybody,
I have issues with my Monitor. Every now and then my Monitor just turns black or sometimes white with blue stripes, during working.
I have to restart it and everything works fine again. Unfortunately it happens more and more often.
Can anybody help me?
Thank you

  • Imac monitor turns off but the imac continues to operate

I have problem with my imac 27 "i5 2.7 ghz 4gb of ram with video card AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB bought used not under warranty.
In practice, for the first 2 days no problem but then suddenly began to fade with the monitor frequency is not standardized.
I am sure that is not to shut down the mac because the mac but the monitor continues to make sounds when you turn off.
I've tried both to reset the PRAM is to initialize it with os x 10.8 (2 times with updates) and also installing windows 8 but nothing for the first few days but then here goes the problem recur please help me.

Sound like a hardware issue but this is tough to tell. Run Apple's Hardware Test in extended mode at least 2-3 times. If errors appear you have confirmed a hardware issue and the machine needs to go in for service.

  • Imac spontaneously turning off while using iTunes?

Lately, every once in a while my iMac shuts itself down while inactively, listening to music from my library. Does anyone know what could be the course?

Specifically, I don't know the answer, but finding out the answer won't be hard.
We'll need a few specifics. You say your iMac shuts down while listening to music from your library. Is that the only time it happens? Is this when you're using iTunes, or some other application? What do you mean when your "iMac shuts itself down"? Does it shut down entirely, causing yout to reboot your computer? Could you describe exactly what happens before and after the "shut down"?

  • My computer turned off while working on a document and it wasn;t saved!! It closed it?

    help!!

Which operating system were you running ?
Lion is fair enough to AutoSave, even when a sister plays the fool but to activate the AutoSave feature, you must save at least once.
Typing 2000 words without saving at least once is playing with matches.
Now, at least, you know that doing that may burn fingers

Do you have backups of all the data on the startup drive? If not, do nothing else until you've backed up that data, if you still can.

Hello, when I turn up my macbook it start lagging  a lot and also when it is turning off while I use it it works perfectly anyone help

Not enough free storage space can slow your Mac down. Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage. Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Anti virus software, as well as third party Mac cleaning utilities such as MacKeeper  and CleanMyMac can also slow your Mac down.
Check to see if the startup disk needs repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Make sure to back up all important data first before using OS X Recovery.

  • [S]iMac with additional monitor: built-in monitor turns off at startup

    Hi,
I'm using an iMac Intel (2007) with an external monitor. I used to have the external one on the left and the iMac on the right.
Everything was fine until today, when I *just* moved external monitor on the right and changed my xrandr script like this:
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1680x1050 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --output DIN --off --output DVI-0 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 1680x0 --rotate normal
The thing is that now when I turn on the computer the built in monitor turns off as the startup process reaches the Xorg phase.
Do you have any ideas about why this happens?
I didn't touch the Xorg configuration at all, when I installed the system both monitors were recognized correctly.
    Thanks in advance!

  • IMac turns off while sleeping

My iMac sometimes turns off during sleep mode, I did call apple care and went through utilities and the tech support said that issue should be resolved, but it happen again today. Has anyone else had the same issues? Is this also the start of some bigger issues down the line?
    Thanks,

    HI BC,
Check System Preferences/Energy Saver. Click the Schedule button bottom right in that pane and make sure it's not set to turn off at a certain time.

  • Well-used iMac suddenly turning off

My not-so-new 20" iMac is turning off on me. I have used this computer, many hours a day, for several years now. For the past 20 months, I've lived in an apartment with old outlets that haven't been replaced, and don't have great contact with the electrical plugs. I've been using a power strip, and the computer only turned off when someone knocked the plug out of the outlet or bumped "reset" on the power strip.
Starting yesterday, my computer started turning itself off (apparent power failure) without anything getting bumped. I'm not seeing any changes in the lights around, me, either, so I don't think that power fluctuations are the proximate cause. I've fiddled with all of the pulgs, unplugged and replugged them, and the problem is getting worse: my computer is shutting off more often. I'm using my spouse's laptop to ask this question, because it's gotten to the point where my comptuer really isn't useable. I've gotten great advice from these forums before, and I'm looking forward to getting good advice this time.
Could a power regulating power strip solve my problems? I'm guessing no, but should I do this in the future, to prevent damage to my computer? More importantly, what is likely wrong with my computer, and about how much would it cost for me to replace the part, or get it fixed at the Apple store? I did not purchase any extended warranties, so this computer is completely out of warranty.

It's been a month since I first posted, and I've got more clues and details now. After I posted my question I realized that my computer is and has been on a surge protector (and the protector light is light), so on later reflection I don't think the problem is the steadines of the power.
den.thed's suggestion seemed to work at first, although I think the longest my computer has gone without shutting down in the last month was about a week, and at this point resetting the SMC doesn't seem to be helping (not that I've turned the computer back on without unplugging it, so I haven't tested this precisely).
I leave my computer on at night (sometimes I put it to sleep, sometimes it puts itself to sleep, but sometimes something happens and the computer doesn't put itself to sleep, or my cats step on the keyboard and wake it up), and it has not shut down at night. It only shuts down when I'm sitting in front of the computer, using it. This made me think I might be having a software problem, so I tried avoiding using specific programs, but I can't isolate a specific program that is always open or always being used when my computer shuts itself down. I think my computer has only shut down while I'm typing, but I'm not certain on that one. I'm using a logitech wireless keyboard (because I spilled water on and destroyed the original keyboard), and (because I only have the one keyboard at the moment) I haven't tried using another keyboard.
Last night I had the realization that the times my computer was going longer without shutting down was when I'd unplugged my backup HD running Time Machine (because of the limited number of USB connections on the computer).  I am not certain if my computer has ever shut itself down with the external HD attached. I have had successful saves to Time Machine on my external HD while dealing with this problem.
But these two clues: maybe shutting down only when external HD is plugged in, and definitely only shutting down when when I'm sitting at the computer, actively using it, don't seem to me to point to the same problem.

  • Monitor turns off after boot? macmini

I have a strange display issue.
I am running a dual monitor setup on my 2010 mac mini. It used to work fine but now suddenly the monitor using the minidisplayport won't work right. It just stays turned off.
If I unplug the HDMI monitor and only use the minidisplayport, the connected monitor turns on while the computer boots (grey apple screen), but instead of eventually showing my desktop the monitor just turns off. The computer acts as if nothing is wrong. If i switch the monitor to the hdmi everything looks normal.
    Resetting pram makes no difference.
Starting in safemode makes no difference. no picture.
Apple hardware test shows no issue. (The weird thing is, AHT has no problem keeping the minidisplayport -monitor running)

Only the Hdmi monitor shows in systems pref/displays. Ofcause i dont know if anything is going on on the black screen. There is no arrange displays option though.
I only have bad experience contacting apple, so that will be my last option. I have no apple store near by. The mini is still under waranty, but i also think/hope it is just a software issue.

  • IMac display turns off automatically.

    Hi everyone!
I have a problem with my iMac. The display automatically turns off while using the computer and I can't continue using it without forcing it going to sleep. The display turns off when the screen brightness is NOT at maximum level. If I reduce the brightness, the screen turns off. If the display it's at the maximum level, no problem, works perfect. No matter if the computer is just turned on from a cold start or if it's running since hours with high temperatures. In System Preferences there's only one option selected in the Enegy Saver section (Allow power button to sleep the computer).
Any ideas?  It's really annoying working with this problem (especially at night with the brightness at maximum).
    Hope somebody can help me!
    (Sorry for my english).

  • Monitor turning off strangely

    Hello folks,
I'm having a strange issue with a computer I use as a media center. XFCE4 running on Arch. Everything works great except for the fact that the monitor turns off at random. It's not frequent, but once every 10-20 minutes it will happen. Now the weird thing is that the video playback continues, when I move the mouse the monitor wakes up and the video has been playing.
I even tried power settings where nothing ever turns off, but it doesn't seem to help.
    Any ideas or similar problems?

I can think of 2 options.
    One is the screensaver...
The other is your dpms settings.   I have in my ~/.xresources file
    xset -dpms s off &
    to turn it off.

MY phone turned off while texting battery at 72%. I tried turning it on but screen stays black.

First, try to reset the phone by pressing the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back. You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not work, connect in recovery mode, explained here:

  • IPhone 3gs turns off while having 60-80% battery

hello, iphone 3gs turns off while there is enough battery to be consumed. Round about 60 to 80 percent battery is more enough to keep alive an iphone for a whole day long. what suggestion you recommend, help asap......

You could try to disconnect and after a few minutes reconnect the battery. That theoretically resets the phone BIOS and is supposed to help regarding the reboot issue (see post by NIKKOH007) http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2471090&start=2055&tstart=30
Or replace the battery altogether with a newer, iOS 4 compatible battery. At iFixit.com they have come to the conclusion that not all batteries in the 3GS are necessarily iOS4.x compatible or a battery defect may be exposed after updating.

  • Monitor turns off to sleep but computer stays on???

Monitor turns off to sleep but computer stays on???
Any clues why? I can only shut-down and it gets annoying because I like to be working in less than a minute after powering up. Any things to look for to help?

    Thanks,
don't know why it'd matter if I had a warranty or not since the function
in question is apart of what I'm supposed to be getting w/ cost of computer.
Time to load the overpriced 1 ton computer into the car and demand they fix it at the apple store. This is absurd since I originally bought this computer for music creating and it's the most unreliable computer EVER as far as stability for music. My audiophile records for like 10 sec. before the sound cuts out, everytime, but of course that's not apple's fault.
Never buying apple again. This is straw that broke the camels back. Anyone wanna trade a pc for my G5?
Sorry for the venting but this is where I draw the line!
    Thanks,
    Henry
