IMac mouse problems / strange behavior (impossible to configure mouse preferences)

I work in a design and communication school, the used hardware is iMac (Intel) whit Lion (OS X 10.7), we have several rooms equipped with these Macs where students light up their data on the server.
Today, 3 of these Macs had problems with the mouse, including mine.
Basically the clicks don´t work correctly. We cant close windows, open folders or change some options by clicking, but we can open softwares, scroll.
In safari if i search something, when I try to click the link i want, safari opens a new tab instead the one i am at, and has other strange behaviors. So I´ve tried to change the mouse settings, and when i make a change, for example: change the scroll button to "buttun 3" the mouse automatically assumes all buttons to dashboard, but not at the configurations window because it says that scrool button still "button 3",  when i use the click or the scroll or any button it just slid me to dashboard or a setting that has nothing to do with my option.
This is really causing a big problem since we are a school.. I already tried to change the mouse, clean, try another usb ports, search for update or restart but it still doing the same.
I think it have something to do with an update.. but not sure.. would be really gratefull if someone knows how to solve this.
As a temporary solution,i disabled all options using only the mouse click, but to do it, i had to plug in my tablet (that works perfectly for the record) and use it instead of mouse (since it was impossible to use it), than went to mouse preferences and disable left click, scroll and side buttons and then restart the Mac (or else it wont work)..
it will work fine but still a problem cause I use all mouse buttons custom as well as the students...

I have been experiencing a freezing mouse as well. I updated the mouse drivers but it is still happening. I have been repairing the permissions and noticed something very strange see the mention of a -t. I have been running unix systems since 1984 and have never seen that before....

I reported this to Apple and they told me to erase the hard drive reinstall the
system. I really don't want to have to do that. It seems like something is taking
control of the machine.....

  • Cropping LR4 occasional strange behavior experienced by others?

The LR4 cropping process has become unstable during use on several occasions.  The LR4 cropping tool seems to get confused.
During the cropping process, unwanted changes to position and leveling of the cropped area happen upon exiting.  The cropped image one saw immediately before exiting is not what one sees afterwards. The crop has changed on its own.  During the episode, the response to the mouse is not normal.  One may drag the corner only to have it spring back upon release of the button.
Exiting LR4 and reentering does not cure the behavior.  One must open image in Develop module,  restore crop defaults, exit, and reenter batch tool to restore normal behavior.  I am not certain as to the exact order of these steps but essentially normalcy was restored during their implementation.
I have notice that this abnormal behavior seems more likely to occur during sessions when I am making use of the "Previous" button.
As far as I know, the behavior is not reproducible.  It occurs during some of those late night sessions and I have not documented it well but will do so if we don’t have a cure by next time it occurs.

Replacing the Lr preference file may help. The preference file can go "funny" and then causes all kinds of strange behavior of Lr.
Replacing the preference file takes about 10 minutes, and you don`t need to re-install Lr.
BTW: Un-installing and re-installing Lr does not replace the preference file.
See here for instructions o  how to replace the preference file: http://lightroomers.com/replacing-the-lightroom-preference-file/745/
See  here where to find the preference file: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-4.html

  • UWL configuration - strange behavior

    Ciao SDN,
i'm trying to configure UWL (again!!).
    When i go through
    System Admin>System Configuration>Universal Worklist & workflow> Universal Worklist
i got the message: "The specified root item cannot be retrieved from the configuration. Correct the entry before trying again."
This is a very strange behavior, because some time ago i had already configured UWL and all works fine.
    Help me...

  • Login problems...  strange behavior seen

Hello. I'm seeing a strange behavior with regard to invalid database
logins and JDO. I have a few test cases. First I try to pass an invalid
username to JDO. This test case fails and throws a
FatalInternalException, which is what I expect. Then, I pass a valid
username and I am able to connect and retrieve an entry from the database.
Next, if I run the same invalid username test case again, it throws a
DataStoreException. I am wondering if the username and password from the
valid test case is getting saved somehow and is being used by the second
run of the invalid username test case. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Can you post the exceptions that you're seeing?
-PatrickPatrick, below are the two exceptions that I'm getting. The first one is
the one that I receive the first time that I run the test case. The
second one is the exception that I receive when I run the same test case
again after a test case that has valid login information. The strange
thing is that I would expect the top-level exception for both of them to
be the same. Thanks for the help...

  • Strange behavior (disappearing buttons, tabs, and more)

Very recently (within the past 3 days and long after installing 10.4.9) Safari on my iMac G5 has been exhibiting very strange behavior.
    Some of the symptoms:
    - crashes frequently for no apparent reason
    - toolbar loses buttons and/or buttons are there but don't react to mouse clicks; sometimes a standard button, like forward, will simply disappear while backward remains
    - text in URL field will become 'bolded' and sometimes difficult to read/blurry
    - tabs often lose their dividing line boundaries
    - auto entries usually not present
I have erased the preference list for Safari in my user library and repaired my permissions without any success.
    Any suggestions?
Thank you very much for any help.

    Hi
Please post a crash report - when Safari crashes, the "quit" panel has a "report" button. Select it, then copy/paste the entire contents to your reply.
While you are at it, try the site from another User Account. If you need to create a new account, please follow these steps:
Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. You can ignore step 7 in the article.
Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.
Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If Safari is stable in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.
    Post back with results.

  • 802.1x "MachineorUser" Auth Mode strange behavior in 2950 & 3750 Switches

Good Day Support Team around the world,
Having started recently  tests with 802.1x in a lab environment, I noticed  a strange behavior related to authentication. First let me provide you with the network components I used.
supplicant:                    domain-joined laptop with Windows XP SP3 802.1x embedded client
    authenticator1:              Cisco 2950-24
    authenticator2:              Cisco 3750-24
authentication server:     MS NPS Windows Server 2008
    1.     In the first scenario with 3750 switch when I connect the laptop to relevant port the machine authentication is successful. Then I try to login with a domain account and again the authentication is completed without any problem. Then I log off and user authentication is revoked and the machine authentication is used again without any issue. When I try to login again as local user the authentication fails as expected but the port remains disabled (port blinking amber) regardless the fact that port is configured for Auth-Fail Vlan. When I log off then the machine authentication is used again and the access is granted.
    2.     In the second scenario with 2950 switch as authenticator, I follow the same steps as before and when I try to login as local user the authentication is failed and the port is assigned the Auth-Fail Vlan (as expected based on configuration). However when I log off it seems that the 2950 switch still use the Auth-Fail Vlan for that port and never authenticates again for machine authentication.
Could you please let me someone know if this is normal ( I suppose no). Please find attached the relevant debug output from the second scenario.
    Thank you!!!

    Hi,
basically what happens is that the maximum EAP packet size for communication between client and RADIUS server is negotiated. Therefore, in your case the switch notifies NPS that the client is capable of handling packets up to 9000 bytes in size.
EAP messages, especially those containing the server certificate, are usually bigger than 1500 bytes and arrive at the switch in multiple fragments:
    Mar  6 15:50:11.881: RADIUS(0000002C): Received from id 1645/41
    Mar  6 15:50:11.881: RADIUS/DECODE: EAP-Message fragments, 253+253+253+253+253+253+253+253+20, total 2044 bytes
Having learned that 2044 bytes is acceptable for the client, the switch forwards the full message in one chunk, but since your client is likely to have set the interface MTU to 1500, the packet is oversized and never reaches its destination.
And yes, I think changing the System Jumbo MTU to 1500 bytes would lead to the same result. If my memory serves me right, a new setting takes effect only after a reboot, so I'd suggest giving it a go in your lab first.
    Best regards,
    Josef

  • Strange behavior of system with enabled FileVault2, Roaming profile

    Hello,
I have encountered strange behavor of my Macbook Air after some testing.
Macbook Air 2012 was newly installed with 10.8.4 and joined network account server on 10.8.4 server with Roaming profile (synced with server home directory). After installing some basic apps like iWork I turned on FileVault.
Then I start to have the strange behavior - iWorks are not displaying content of document - it seams blank - just white screen without any borders where should be at least lines in numbers or empty cells.
Another display problem is in Safari. On same pages (even default Top SItes) it`s flashing and especially when scrolling.
Did you encountered something similar? I`m not able to get rid of it.
Computers was used for some time before turining on FIle Vault and problem started to occur after this action. Disabling of FileVault didn`t helped (properly restarted between steps).
I didn`t found anything strange in Console or elsewhere..

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Strange behaviors

I was in the Finder going through my files trying to free up some disk space and some strange behaviors happened. As I go through the media files (video clips, flash files, etc.) they automatically play even though I did NOT hit the space bar to invoke Quicklook option and it happens to all of the files in that folder. Now I wasn't bothered by that, just thought it was strange however what I found interesting is as all of these happening is the Apple Menu Bar is disappear but as I move the mouse up top it reappear as if it has a hide menu bar and unhide the menu bar as I hover over with the mouse. Does that mean that it is possible to do a hide/unhide menu bar option? Never seen that before, does anyone else experience this?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    8lias wrote:

No, it only means you are able to do it because there is some corruption either in your Home folder or in the system. Let's find out:
Create a new account, name it "test" and see how your apps work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
If the problem is present in the test account also, then it is systemwide. In this case try repairing this with the 10.5.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
(Note: If you are running build 9C7010 do not install the Update.)
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
If the problem does not appear in the test account try starting in "Safe Mode" (It will take a bit more time to startup because it runs a directory check first).
If that works go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If there are still problems, go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving /Users/Home)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
    Let us know.

  • Strange behaviors between TextInputSkin and StageTextInputSkin

    Hi All,
I met a very strange behaviors, and need help with, any idea will be truly appreicated.
I have a phone field and date field both from TextInput field, I aslo have textfieldskin which is original from TextInputSkin.
When I apply the TextInputSkin to the TextInput field, the softKeyboard Type can not be modified. I found out that as TextDisplay is not StyleableStageText, the autocorrect, type, etc can not be modified while StageTextInputSkin will work just fine.
However, when I applied the StageTextInputSkin to my fields, the mouse click event can not be rececived any more...
My question: How can I change the softkeyboardType and be able to receive mouse click event at same time if my control is from TextInput?
    Kind Regards,

6 months, and a new cs6 with no improvements on this issue.
My biggest problem is with an android ICS unit the softkeyboarddeactivated gets called when the keyboard switches and shows the mic speak input keyboard but softkeyboardactivating or activated does not get called when the mic input keyboard is shown.
Also the scrolling bug is horrible and needs to be fixed.
    and keypresses are needed.
and being able to layer the native components would be great.
    im sad.

  • WVC54GCA strange behavior

Hey Guys, I've added my fifth camera. And the rest work great and can access remotely. But my fifth one is a WVC54GCA with audio. And I am getting strange behaviors. For example, when I'm hard wired , I am able to view the video by browsing to the camera. However, when I configure wireless, and not even go wireless, still connected via LAN I can't view the video, it is almost as if the web server in it get hosed, even the graphics change and the Linksys banner is missing and I see this at the top of each menu page:File menu_setup.htm not found. Also another example, is under admin, the buttons for firmware upgarde and factory reset are invisible, I can still tab to them and use them. That's why I think it is a web server issue with itself. I am on rev V1.00R24, my other cam that is behaving correctly is on R22.
When I go wireless, same problem, I am unable to browse to the camera to view the image, however, I am able to see the picture via the video monitoring utility. I can browse to the camera to 'administer' it but even that doesn't work right either. Especially the basic menu. If I try changing anything, LED, or time or anything, I get a error saying invalid subnet mask. When I didn't change it, plus it is obviously correct since I can browse to it. The cameras address is 192.168.1.122/24 and the gateway is 192.168.1.23, the same mask and DG on all my other cameras.
I've rebooted the camera and the linksys router and still get the same issue. Has anyone got any ideas? I am barely ok, since I can view the image via the monitor utlity, but it would be nice if the camera work correctly like the other 4. Is their a limit to the number of wireless cam's? I have 5 total now.

I to have had strange issues with the WVC54GCA.  I have two cameras.  I set them up in my office first for testing.  The final place they will be is at my summer place for monitoring when I'm away.  I had a break-in last year.
In the office I had issues primarily with the motion detection email feature.  It simply would not work.  The test messages work just fine every time.  So I know the email config information is correct. I'm not sure if we just did not wait long enough or if it was the scheduled capture we setup, however it seems that until we setup a scheduled capture and deleted it; the motion capture would not work.  So after about 3 hours of testing and cofiguring and resetting we had it capturing pics and video.  BTW we are using a VRV200 at the office.
Next, took the camera's out to the summer place.  Setup them up from scratch, did a hard reset.  Main issue, same as in the office (using a wrt54g at the summer place) not doing a capture.  Test email works fine,  No capture. Not even after playing the set a scheduled capture trick.  Tried everything I can think of, no luck, no capture.  As you can imagine, if it won't capture, then it is useless for remote monitoring of a summer place.
I checked for a firmware update for the WVC54GCA, however its brand-d-new, so there is only one version of the firmware and that's the one that came on the camera.
Any ideas would be welcomed.  I must have a capture solution.  Maybe I just need to buy a more expensive camera.

  • Strange behavior - compositions being cut down

I'm trying to create After Effects compositions to be used in my Premiere Pro projects, but strange behavior is making this completely impossible. Here's how it goes:
    1. Start a new AE project, start a new composition.
    2. Add clips/effects/etc., save.
    3. Start a NEW AE project, start a NEW composition.
    4. Add clips/effects/etc., save.
    5. Composition 1 has now been cut down to the time composition 2 and when trying to open composition 1 in AE, it redirects me to composition 2.
I don't get what's going on... it's like they're being linked, but they're two entirely different projects/compositions. This is crazy and it's wasting a lot of my time. Any help would be appreciated.

Let me slap my self on the forehead and say "D'oh"  It's your workflow. You're using dynamic link in Premiere Pro. The proper workflow is to have all of the comps in the same AE project. In Premiere Pro you go to File>Dynamic Link>New After Effects Project. You create your comp size in Premiere Pro, not in AE, then AE opens up and you create your comp. When you want to create a new dynamic link you follow the same procedure.
Dynamic link can only look at one instance of AE at a time so it's looking at the last project for the comp info. It can't find comp 1 in project 1 because it's only looking at project 3. That explains the same comp showing up in all three locations. Fix the workflow and you'll fix the problem. In fact, I think that if you open up project 3 and import project 1 and project 2, then same project 3, then open up Premiere Pro your problem will be fixed.
