IMac no longer prints to network printer

I am running OS 10.3.9 on our iMac G4 and it seems that we can no longer print to our networked Brother 1870N laser printer. We execute a print command and the queue opens, the printer wakes up like it normally does to start a job, but then the document gets cleared from the queue (like it would if the job completed) and the printer goes back into its "ready" state without printing anything.
I have deleted & re-added teh printer both as an IP printer and as an AppleTalk printer (which is the way it used to work) but no luck--any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • IMac no longer detecting any networks...

    Hi again all...
My 24 inch white iMac recently went in for repair after having graphics issues (no other issue ever, everything perfect). It came back, switched it on, runs fast again and has no graphics issues.
However, Airport now does not seem to be detecting ANY network at all. Normally it would pick up my home network (router in the next room), as well as 1-2 other networks which are likely from other houses nearby. This has always been the same for the life of the computer. My MacBook has absolutely no issues detecting my home network as well as other networks, as per usual.
I have tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, removing and re-adding Airport, running Network Diagnostics, etc but it just cannot find anything at all. I even tried messing with my router a bit by changing the security a few times, the MacBook detected it fine again, but nothing on the iMac. Same thing after trying another router too. Also, the Airport card seems to be detected fine in System Profiler.
I cannot seem to figure out what's causing this and how to resolve it. Please can anyone advise me on what else I could try and what the problem could be?
Thanks, hope you guys can help!

    HI,
    Try changing the Airport Channel.
    Open AirPort Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select the device you’re setting up on the left and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.
If that doesn't help, go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart the iMac.
If nothing above has helped, try the Airport Troubleshooting Guide here.

  • IMac no longer visible on network, Internet works fine

My home network has an iMac running Leopard, an iBook running Panther, and occasionally a Windows XP machine.
I was recently transferring files from my Windows machine to the iMac, when the Windows machine unexpectedly restarted, interrupting the transfer.
Since then, the iMac is not visible on the network, nor can it see any other machines on the network. There are no devices listed in its 'Devices' list. It's Internet connectivity remains unaffected.
Rebooting the iMac and restarting the iMac's Airport makes no difference.
Can anybody suggest a fix for this?
    Thanks in advance... Paul

There are no devices listed under Devices??? Not even you local HD?
Other machines are listed under SHARED on Leopard machines.
Have you checked into the preferences set up for sharing on both machines? Maybe something has been mis-set.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

  • My iMac can no longer print to HP 6700 since OS 10.9

My iMac can no longer print to my HP 6700 printer.  This happened after I installed OS 10.9  The rest of my family has PCs and they have no trouble printing at all, so I don't think the printer is the problem.  My husband keeps saying get drivers from HP.  The HP website has no listing for OS 10.9.  I just purchased this printer a few months ago.  Is there anything I can do to get it working again?

    Hi btysmom
I would like to help. I have spoke with several customers who have upgraded to Mavericks and required information for printing and or scanning. Here is a link to the HP Forums I have posted some information I think will help.

  • Can no longer print on any network printers or on printer wired to USB

I changed the printer to "Select printer"  save as PDF
since then i can no longer print to any printer on network
also I tried to connect a printer direct to usb. still no luck.
I have tried to update software
I have tried to select different printer on network
I believe the problem is in a setting that automatically changed when I selected "Save as PDF" as one of the printers.
there are so many tabs and locations on this system I just don't know where to start

First thing to try is go into your system preferences using the little apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen. Go to printers  an see if your printer is listed there. Go through the settings looking for something that would lock it to acting like a PDF exporter all the time. Sometimes the printer utility will have a "Print Test Page Option".
Installing some software, like Adobe, will also install dummy printer drivers that show up as "PDF Printers" in the Printers listing. This could be set as the default printer, but shouldn't stop you from selecting a different printer at print time.
If all else fails, you could try removing all he printers from your System Preferences, then reinstalling your current printer with default setups after restarting the computer. When it sees the "new" device it should start the install process like it did the first time. If you are not comfortable doing that, better to wait for better help or you could end up being worse off than you are now.
I too print to PDF often by selecting the option at the bottom of the print page. But it doesn't lock into that mode. It prints to the printer by default.
    Good luck.

  • I can print from my iMac wirelessly but here lately I can no longer print from my iPhones nor iPads on the same printer

Just recently I was able to print from all of my devices now the only one that prints wirelessly is the iMac the iphones & ipads say no air printer is found how can that be if the iMac is air printing?

    Hello, Carternite.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.
    For best results
Verify that your iOS device is using the latest version of iOS available and that the app you're printing from isup to date.
Make sure that your AirPrint printer has the latest firmware version installed. Check your printer's documentation or contact the printer vendor for more information. A firmware update may be available, even if you just bought your printer.
AirPrint printers connected to Wi-Fi networks work with iOS. AirPrint printers connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet networks work with OS X.
Wi-Fi capable AirPrint printers must be connected to the same home Wi-Fi network as your iOS device or Mac.
If you are unable to print
Check these things if you are unable to print, or if you see the message "No AirPrint Printers Found":
Make sure your printer has paper, and enough ink or toner installed.
Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
Make sure your printer has power and is turned on. Try turning your printer off and then back on again to see if it resolves your issue.
Check to see if your printer has any error lights or indicators displayed on the printer's control panel. Check the documentation that came with your printer to clear any errors displayed.
Check with your printer's manufacturer to see if any firmware updates are available for your printer.
    Notes:
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of an Apple AirPort Base Station or AirPort Time Capsule are not supported with AirPrint.
Some Wi-Fi AirPrint printers can take several minutes to join a Wi-Fi network after being turned on. Make sure that your AirPrint printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network before attempting to print.
Important: Printers not listed in this article are not supported by AirPrint. To search for an AirPrint printer model, use the Find feature of your web browser (usually Command-F) to search the list below.

  • IMac won't connect to network laser printer

    Hi,
I've recently purchased a new 27" iMac 3.4 GHz with 16 GB RAM running OS 10.6.8. Everything has been running smoothly until this morning when I accidently switched off my HP LaserJet 4000n. After I turned it back on, I found that I could no longer print from the iMac to the Lasterjet any more. So, (stupidly) I thought I'd remove to printer from the Fax / Printer selection in System preferences and simply click + to add new printer and reinstrall the HP LaserJet 4000n. But here's the problem, my new iMac won't let me add a new printer because it can't find the HP LaserJet. I have tried everything. I even got a message saying the Appletalk was not turned on - interesting as 10.6.8 doesn't have appletalk any more. I did however find that Appletalk had been switched off on the G5, so I clicked it back on, but i still couldn't locate the HP LaserJet on the iMac. I can get the iMac to print if I connect to the HP LaserJet 4000n as a shaed prionter by turning on the G5 and using the Bonjour shared prointer facility, but I got the imac so I could sell the G5. I don't want to have to keep turning on another computer just to print off a recipe for chicken soup.
I spent about 6 hours on the phone to Apple support today with an elevated support person, but even they gave up in the end after we had tried everything. I even tried to copy the system file to another HD to see if I booted up just form the system if it would connect to the printer in the absence of all applications, but couldn't as i kept getting an error type 8003 message about 45 seconds into the copy process. As you may imagine I am seriously frustrated and not a little pee'd off.
Any clues as to what's happening, and also, how come the Apple support guy didn't ask me if i had backed everything up on Time Machine - which I do. Odd.
It's probably too late fore that option now anyway as he got me to renew the DHCP leases - so my router will have different numbers now.

    I'm using the same printer with my late 2010 iMac (3.2GHz i3, 27") running OS X 10.6.7.
Took me a long while to get it to work, because I'd had it set up to work with my G4 running OS 9 via AppleTalk, and the iMac needs to connect via IP.
The setup that finally worked for me -
In the Print/Fax control pane in System Preferences, click the add button. In the Add Printer window, click the IP item in the header bar. In the new screen -
Protocol - set to "HP JetDirect - Socket"
Address: enter the IP address of the printer. If you don't already have that, you need to get it from the printer itself. To do that, use the "Menu" and "Item" buttons on the printer to step through the various offerings until you get to the Configuration page - select to print that page. The printer's IP address will be included on that page.
The IP address was not included on that page when I first printed the page. I think this was because it had originally been set up to use AppleTalk. The solution was to do a Cold Reset of the printer. To do that, turn the printer off. Hold the Go button down and turn it back on. Release the Go button when you see resetting activity in the message screen on the printer. Once I did that, the next time I printed the Configuration page the IP address was included.
Leave the rest of the Add Printer screen blank.
That should take care of it.

  • Network printer no longer printing double sided

I've recently set up my airport extreme (AE) base station in bridge mode with my Verizon fios wireless router. I also have an airport express connected to a Brother laser printer via USB. The AE is getting ip addresses from the Verizon router, and I have not yet turned off any wireless signals, so both routers are sending out a signal. In this configuration, I can still send print jobs to my laser printer fine, but the printer no longer prints double sided even when the print settings are set to do so. I've also noticed that I can no longer see the printer status when I open up the specific printer app. for that printer. All of this was possible over my wireless network when I was running a simple cable modem to the AE and the AE was the only router in the house. Could this problem be caused by having two wireless antennas running at the same time or does this sound like another problem?

To try... set a different printer as the default, and have the network printer as non-default selection

  • IMac refuses to print to network

My late 2009 21.5 inch iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5 refuses to print to either of two printers on an ethernet network.
In the printing window, it goes through "Looking for printer" and "Connecting to Printer", the progress bar turns blue - but nothing more happens. The printer error log says "the printer is not responding".
Other Macs on the same network print fine.
Here are some of the things I have tried:
. Reinstalled printer software (a Brother HL-5370DW mono laser and Epson Stylus Photo TX810FW)
    . Reset printing system
. Reset Brother printer (worked for a day on this iMac but not since, despite further resets)
. Installed completely new, clean system on a separate partition.
. On the network, changed switches, swapped over ethernet cables etc - can see other Macs and transfer files fine, just not print.
. Connected Brother direct to iMac via USB - prints fine.
Is there something else I can try? Could this be a hardware problem - obviously iMac is out of warranty/Applecare? Is there a way to reset ethernet port? I don't know what to try next, and am at the end of my tether having wasted far too much time on this without a solution...

Hmmm... I don't know the printers. One was an old one which printed fine for months (still prints from an old laptop) and the new one is an HP-printer that prints very well on the iMac from which it was borrowed cables and all. (I live appr. 700 km away so I don't always know all the details).
    Anyway, the computer is an:
    2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    128MB VRAM
    1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512
    250GB Serial ATA Drive
    SuperDrive 8X (DVDR-DL/CD-RW)
    which still runs Tiger.
Different ports were tried and as far as I know the technician reinstalled the system but maybe returned all the old settings which reinvited the old fault unless it's a hardware thing.
I have fowarded the information above so it will be tried and if nothing changes I think she will try and wipe the disc with a completely new installation tonight, just in case. I told her to install the printer first to see what happens and only then install other things and set things up etc.
I'll be back here soon as I know what happened next.
    Thanks anyway,
    Yo

  • I have working Netgear network. Want to add new Time Capsule and run 2nd network for new apple TV and Imac, and keep the netgear network for my PC and Canon printer.

I have working Netgear N600 dual band router network. The existing network has an XP netbook PC, canon printer, 2 Iphones, Epson Air printer, an Ipad, 3 roku boxes, backup drive. Just bought a new Apple TV box, and time capsule 2T.  I have an IMac on order but don't have it here yet.
My goal is to add new Time Capsule and create 2nd "apple" network for new apple TV, Iphones, Ipad, Epson Air printer and new Imac, and keep the netgear network for my PC, Roku TV boxes, and Canon printer and backup drive.
The Netgear router, the time capsule and new IMac will be on the same desktop, I dont need to backup my netbook PC to time capsule.
    Where do I start?
Which device connects to my modem first, the TC2 or the Netgear?
Is it best wait for the Imac before starting or can the TC2 be set up from my Ipad or PC?
    Thanks.

    It is pretty simple..
Setup the TC in bridge and plug it into the Netgear.. I would leave the netgear as the main router for now, although in the future you can swap things around. The netgear firmware may have issues with bonjour and airplay/airprint?? Does your ipad print ok now?
You can setup the TC using Mac, PC (at least up to win7) or iOS.. they all have airport utility available.
Bridge mode is set differently depending on the version of the utility. This is v5 and how the windows one will look (at least similar to).
    v6 will be as
With the TC in bridge you will still create a wireless network.. and give it a different name from the netgear.. then all the apple devices can connect to it. Use ethernet rather than wireless if the imac is on the desktop with it. Much faster and better for using Time Machine backups.
If you run into any issues.. just post the particular issue. It will take a bit of getting used to, but isn't hard.

  • Epson NX305 no longer prints via Airport since upgrade to 10.5

I recently upgraded my laptop from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8. Since the upgrade I can no longer print wirelessly using the laptop. The printer is an Epson NX305 all in one. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver multiple times. Epson says it's an Apple thing, not a printer thing.
The Airport Express is running software 6.3, which I believe is the most up to date available. This is PPC laptop, not an Intel based one.
When I go to print an document the computer sees the printer on the network. I click print and the document flashes on the printer screen for a splt second and then just disappears. If I connect the printer to the computer directly via USB it prints fine.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Been having the same issues happening on the same machine as you. I did this yesterday, and so far so good.
    1. Restart in safe mode (Hold down shift key when you hear the chime)
    2. Under Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities, select your hard drive on the left column, and click "Repair Permissions"
    3. Once done, restart
It's been a day since I've done this, and no beachballs yet (fingers crossed)

How can I get the OS to return a list of printers to Photoshop when Photoshop requests a list.

  • Can no longer print to Canon printer connected to Airport Extreme

My Canon MP830 is connected to my Airport Extreme. Bonjour on my Windows 7 Acer laptop sees and installs the printer. I have been printing to the MP830 successfully from wired and wireless computers on my network this way for around a year. Today, I can no longer print to the MP830 unless I connect it directly to a USB port on my Acer. Bonjour can still see and install the MP830 when it's connected to the Airport Extreme, but I can't print to the MP830.
    Any ideas?

Sounds a bit like a problem being discussed in this thread:
