IMac no longer sees mouse or keyboard

Re; pre airplay iMac/Mavericks. Firstly, computer wouldn't wake from sleep when
I tapped the mouse. Thought there had been a power interruption, so I touched the power button on the back. Computer awoke, but displayed a message that Bluetooth keyboard could not be found. But I've been using a usb mouse and keyboard, neither of which are no longer active. I am completely stranded; connecting to this forum via android phone. I've tried shutting down and powering up, but to no avail. Screen comes up normally, but I can do nothing without a keyboard and mouse. Need emergency protocols. BTW, I tried reconnecting with my Bluetooth Mac keyboard, but it can't find that either.

  • After receiving "identical" Time Capsule 3rd gen replacement, my iMac no longer sees my HP LaserJet2420 that my previous Time Capsule enabled seeing

I no longer remember how my USB-connected HP laser printer was seen with my iMac connected through Time Capsule.  Oddly enough, my iMac also no longer sees the printer when connected directly to iMac.  What the heck happened?  They used to work fine together!

A printer that is directly connected has to be recognised to be installed..
I guess the first thing to do is open system profiler and check that the USB is recognising the printer.. If so then the issue is purely drivers.. if not it is bad usb cable.. bad usb port.. bad printer. Plug it into the computer via a powered usb hub.
If the USB does see the printer but the drivers don't work.. I stand by the comment.. delete all printers and start again.. multiple printers can mess things up equally as well as old drivers.. especially if you did an upgrade install.
What a shame you didn't buy the network version.. in the future.. never buy usb.. always buy network printers. Any printer called a workgroup printer without network is a contradiction in terms.
Once you get it working on the computer then you need to start all over again to get it running on the TC again.. man ethernet or wireless printer looks better and better all the time. usb .. shudder.

  • Do I require wired mouse and keyboard to bootcamp on imac 2012 with bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

have just purchased a late 2012 imac which I want to bootcamp. Have read on some posts that during the process you lose the use of mouse and keyboard as they are bluetooth and windows does not have the drivers, so you need a wired mouse and keyboard to bootcamp the imac.
Is this correct as there is nothing in the Apple bootcamp guide mentioning this.
would appreciate some assistance on this point.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
In theory, you don't need a USB mouse and keyboard because the iMac can detect the Bluetooth ones during startup (difficult but it can). If you are new, I recommend you to get a USB mouse and keyboard to install Windows in Boot Camp, so installation will be easier and you won't have any problem to start up in OS X later.
With the USB keyboard  and mouse, it's as simple as following the Apple's steps to install Windows on your Mac > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf It's very important to download the Windows support software, which you will need to make Windows work correctly

  • IMac no longer sees network or gets very weak connection

    Here's the deal:
I have an iMac that was purchased in 2010. I have used it in an office connecting through a network router using the iMac's airport capabilities. The connection had been good for over a year. Airport would show four full bars every day, day in and day out.  Connection speed was high, and everything was rosy.
About two weeks ago, I noticed my download speed was decreasing. The airport status would show only three or two bars.  Sometimes it would disconnect and say that the network was not available. Then, I could reconnect, but I would only have two bars. Even then, it wouldn't stay connected long. The situation then deteriorated rapidly. Now, I can only see the network half of the time, and when I do, it shows as only one bar.
First, let me say nothing changed. Nothing on the computer changed, nothing on the router changed. It just came out of no where.
Here's what I did in troubleshooting:
Reset the router and made it an unsecure network to make sure it was not a security problem (which I didn't really think it was to begin with because the problem was not seeing the router, not an inability to get on the network).
I sat the iMac right next to the router. Then, it connected fine at full strength. But if I move it from the router too far (but still within the operating range it had for over a year), it drops dramatically.
Reinstalled the operating system on the Mac.  None of these things worked.
Here is the real kicker. There are three other Macs that operate in this office, and all show full strength and connection to the network. I can set my MacBook right in front of the iMac and connect full strength.
We also put a router in the same room with the iMac.  Even when it is sitting just 6 feet or so from the iMac, it only shows as 2 bars of strength.
So what is the deal? I cannot set this iMac right next to the router. It used to work just fine where it sits, now it can hardly see anything via airport while all other computers can just fine.

    HI,
Go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart the iMac.
That doesn't alter your settings, just resets Airport.

  • Imac no longer sees Back up drive

    Hi there,
Apologies if this topic has been covered already but I have been searching through related posts and have come to the conclusion that my back up hard drive is knackered. Can someone confirm this please?
I am a photographer and keep all my images on the imac (mid 2010 27") on Aperture, backed up on a La Cie 1TB external Hard drive.
Today the Imac stopped seeing the hard drive when I switch it on, yet it sees it still in disk utility. When I tried to verify, it stated - it needed repair, yet when I tried to repair it it said - can not repair disk and recover backup.
Now the disk utility doesnt recognise the hard drive at all. I have tried it in all the USB ports with the same result.
Am I to assume that the drive has finally had it?
Is there any way that I can recover whats on it?
    Yours hoping for a miracle.
    Stuart

    Arthur,
    Many thanks,
It was your suggestion re removing the drive from the case that worked.
All I actuallly had to do was remove the plastic cover from the drive, which seems like madness to me. So I sat it naked on top of the table, plugged it back in, switched it on and voila, the icon popped up on the desktop again. Go figure!
I was however able to retrieve my files. I have now started a new backup on another drive which will take the best part of 48hrs to complete and I'll see how the old disk performs with the lid off for a while but I think its probably on its way out.

  • IMac no longer sees Canon MP520

I have had a Canon MP 520 connected by USB to my iMac for over a year. I have recently added an Airport Extreme wireless network to our home and have plugged in a HP 6500 printer that works on the network. Now my computer does not recognize the Canon printer and I have even reloaded the software. I can print just fine to the HP printer but when I go to Fusion to use some of my old Windows programs, Excel, I can't print to the HP and it can't find the Canon either. I have unplugged the printer, turned it on and off, restarted the computer, and unplugged the USB cord. Nothing seems to make any effect and I still can't print to the Canon printer. Any suggestions?

Thnx for the reply. Reading your original posting I assumed you meant that the MP520 is still connected to the iMac via USB - rather than to the USB port of the Airport Extreme. Hence my statement about checking the USB port entry in System Profiler. If the MP520 is connected to the USB port of the iMac but not shown in the USB bus list, then this would suggest that either the USB cable is faulty or the USB input on the MP520 has stopped working. If you have another USB printer cable then I would replace it now and check the System Profiler > Hardware > USB entry again. If the MP520 still fails to appear then the printer is most likely faulty.
As for the HP, if it is connected to the USB port of the Airport, then it would be advertised as a Bonjour device. In a normal Windows setup, such as Boot Camp, then you would need an application like Bonjour for Windows to find the printer connected to the Airport. I'm not too sure how Fusion would see the printer in this setup. When running my Boot Camp XP via Fusion, which is set to NAT for networks, I print directly to network printers that are installed on XP, as opposed to the Mac printers. So I will do some testing here at home and reply later.

  • Imac no longer "sees" shared non-Mac devices on network

    Hi everyone,
Here's a real puzzler (for me anyway). I have three Macs, two PCs and an Escient digital jukebox on the home network over standard router-based ethernet connections. The system has worked great especially since Leopard came out and automatically detected the non-Mac devices and added them to the shared category on Finder. Suddenly in the last couple of days I noticed that although the Mac devices are still on the shared network, the PC hard drives and the Escient jukebox has mysteriously disappeared. All of the devices work properly, and I have made no changes in my network recently.
Any thoughts on diagnosing the lost shared devices and restoring them? I tried Time Machine, but it acted also as if those devices never existed. Thanks for your help!

Hmm yes.. this is a strange one.
You could try this as it appears to work with a couple of tests I ran.
Open your Network Preferences pane from  > System Preferences.
    Make a new location.
For which ever interface you are using, be it Wired (Built In Ethernet) or Wireless (AirPort), click the "Advanced" Button. Click on "WINS" and enter the workgroup name of your other Windows Devices (Default is usually WORKGROUP) into the Workgroup drop down menu.
You can also use the menu to see if your mac can see any other workgroups.
Click OK, Click apply and see if it worked.

  • IMac no longer seeing Lacie external HD

Hello =) I'm hoping that some smart cookie here can help me.
My iMac no longer sees the Lacie firewire external HD that I've had connected to my computer for the last year or so. I don't know exactly when it stopped seeing the drive, but it's a problem now that I want to use it
My computer is only on while I use it - I shut it down every night and it's off while I'm at work. The Lacie hard drive is on all the time.
I've run the Apple hardware test from the CD that came with the computer, and in the system profiler, nothing actually comes up apart from "firewire bus".
I don't really know what else to try. I've plugged the drive in to my housemate's Mac Mini and it works just fine, so I've narrowed it down to my computer.
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks =)

    Hi Tanythe-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
Take a look at this: What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device
I think the solution may be the reset of the bus as indicated in the 5 steps, but it is worth following the first part as well.

  • Brand new IMac 27 bluetooth mouse and keyboard not connecting for eight minutes after start up.

I have a new imac 27 that has worked flawlessly for three weeks.
All of a sudden, when starting up the mac boots fine but the bluetooth mouse and keyboard are non responsive. This state is maintained for between 7 and 8 minutes then both mouse and keyboard start working and continue doing so for the rest of the day....until the next restart and the whole saga repeats itself.
Both sets of batteries are fully charged.
I have scoured different sites and tried any suggestion that made any sense, to no avail. All I am able to do at the moment is to do the time, wait the 7 to 8 mins. and then all's good.
My first Mac and this is very annoying especially as Apple must be aware of this issue but no solution is forthcoming!
    Any suggestions/workarounds would be great.
    Thanks

if you are using rechargeable batteries sometimes they don't stay charged for as long as they should try using alkalaine batteries and see if the issue still persists.
also try doing an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

  • Windows 7 Boot Camp no longer recognize my wireless mouse and Keyboard?

I have a mid 2011 27in iMac on 10.9.1 and I run Windows 7 via boot camp, sometimes Parallels as well. Today I tried to boot up in to Windows via Boot Camp, but I can not control the cursor or input anything via kayboard. This has happened before and I only got it working again after reinstalling Windows, which I am REALLY trying to avoid
The thing is, when I boot in to Windows, it is definitely responding to the keyboard when I hold F8 to go in to safe mode, but once the desktop loads up, I lose any function of mouse or keyboard. Even when I try to manually add a device using a USB mouse, it is not detecting any wireless device.
Both my Magic Trackpad and Wireless Keyboard work fine in OS X, Windows 7 when in Parallels and works during the start up of boot camp, but not when Windows 7's desktop boots up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have to download the drivers. To download them, press X key while your Mac is starting to start into Mac OS X, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to download them. You will have to burn them onto a DVD or USB drive, so you will be able to install the drivers on Windows. Then, it should work fine.
If you can't download them in Boot Camp Assistant, download the drivers from this website > http://www.cafe-encounter.net/p682/download-bootcamp-drivers The links are from Apple and that's safe to download and install

  • When i wake my iMac there is no wireless mouse or keyboard functionality. I have to reboot the computer to make them work.

If my imac is left sleeping for any length of time there is no wireless mouse or keyboard functionality and the imac keeps returning to sleep. I have to hold the power button to wake the machine as the mouse and keyboard do not work. T o rectify the problem i have to hold the power button until the mac switches off and then re-boot the machine.

Don't sleep the computer and its HDs, just the display. I've been doing that for years, run 24/7, and never have an issue, but then again I only use wired keyboards and mice.

  • How to fix the mouse and keyboard freezing when installing Windows 7 on 27' iMac late 2013?

Hi, I have a question for u guys who can solve this.
I recently bought the new 27' iMac late 2013, and I installed some softwares and used it for few days.
Before I bought this I used the 15' Macbook Pro Retina, I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I used the Windows for gaming.
    So back to my question.
So I bought the new iMac and I was tying to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (with the same CD).
After dividing the partition, and other stuff, the iMac rebooted and I hold down the option (alt) key. I choose the Windows CD, and it said it is "getting ready to install Windows". I let it load, and the blue screen where you choose the language, time/location and keyboard input popped up. At the bottom right corner (at the same page), there is a button that said "Next (N)" which u need to click it to go to the next step. I was moving my mouse to click the button, but I realized that my mouse and keyboard was frozen. I tried both wireless and wired mouse and keyboard but they didn't work. There was nothing I could do. I hold the power button, (that was the only option) and tried my mouse and keyboard on Mac OS and it worked fine.
I thought something went wrong in the CD so I bought the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The result was same. It frizzed again. (I just wast few hundred $)
Latter my friend lend me his Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit. I tried it, and it worked, it didn't freezed on Windows 8.
The problem is I played Battlefield 4, Titan fall, and Watch Dogs, and Battlefield 4 multiplayer doesn't work on Windows 8.1. Even though when it works on Windows 8, I prefer using Windows 7.
Dose anyone knows how to fix this freezing thing?
    My computer is:
27' iMac late 2013 (bought it just few days ago)
I did no upgrades when I bought it, except the graphic card.
I bought the iMac in Korean Apple Store, and my Windows CD is in Korean, can that be a problem?
Please leave a comment when u think u can solve my problem.

    See -> http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf.
In addition to the Windows disc (or USB flash drive with the Windows installer) you'll need a 8GB+ flash drive.
The referenced manual - on page 3, I think, gives you a run-down of what you'll need before you begin the installation. You may also want to post any further Boot Camp questions in the Boot Camp forum -> https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp.
    Good luck,

  • My Imac just quit the bluetooth for mouse and keyboard. What do I do?

today my I mac doesn 't recognize my blue tooth mouse and keyboard. Fortunately I still had USB units for back up. how do I get Imac to do bluetooth again?

    I have the solution!!!!!!!
    After months of irritating trying....
    I installed usboverdrive
    then deinstalled it
from earlier sessions  had installed magicprefs --> now I could configure my mouse
And magic   my mouse still works after a 'sleep'

  • Can I use my iMac's mouse and keyboard on Target mode with my MacBookPro?

I have my MacBookPro conencted to my iMac via ThunderBolt Cable.
I want to be able to put my MacBookPro aside and use my iMac's mouse and keyboard.
    Is this possible?

You'd have to switch the connections after enabling. It's not something I've tried so I don't know if your MBP will
'see' them when they're already connected to your iMac. Worth a try though.
