This is a bug in 10.7 Lion. When you start the Mac don't turn on your Bluetooth devices - keyboard/Magic Mouse/Trackpad - until the Mac has fully booted, or at least wait until it has got past the grey screen.

Is this true? My iMac does not have iPhoto resident on it now and I only purchased my new iMac in December 2012
    Thanks....

Launch Keychain Access and click on Login in the left hand pane and then on Passwords.  Next do search for Apple in the search field at the top and click on Apple ID Authenicication in the list that comes up.  That will give you the ID no. and password.

  • Please Help :( iMac 20" refuses to boot up with anymore than 1gb ram?

Please Help iMac 20" refuses to boot up with anymore than 1gb ram?  It was fine 4 days ago and had been working with a 1gb stick in one slot and a 2gb stick, which had replaced the orignal 1gb stick that I got it with, in the other and it had shown 3gb of ram and was working just fine with that since November?  It went to sleep briefly 4 days ago while I was waiting on a customer and I came back to try to wake it up and it never would forcing me to hard boot it.  When I did that it would only go to a black screen with a solid white light on the power indicator.  Over and over again and same thing.  I read and tried every suggestion I could possibly find in this and a few other mac forums to no avail.
I finally after reading about RAM issues etc.  I decided to power off and take out the ram sticks and try them one at a time in each slot.  So I took out the 2gb stick and did the SMC reset and it would boot up and work just fine with the 1 gb of ram.  So then I went through the same process with the 2gb stick and it would not boot up only go to a black screen with white solid light again (NOT flashing).  So then I tried the other original 1gb I had replaced with the 2gb and it worked just find like the other 1gb.  So then I tried just 1gb stick in the other ram slot (back facing one) and with just the 1gb strip it booted up and worked fine.  Tried it with the other 1gb stick and once again that one too worked just fine.  So I determined it wasn't the slot itself I thought?  I then tried the 2gb in the back slot and it would not boot only go to the black screen white solid light deal like before.  So I thought well ok it's obviously the 2gb ram must have somehow went bad (even though I have only had it since November) and I thought well I will just use the (2) 1gb sticks in each slot and then that will at least give me 2gb because only 1gb really ***** LOL.  So I proceeded to go through the same shut down process installed both sticks (I always push them to I feel them click and my fingers have a nice indention on them) reset the SMC and turned the power one and.... It would only go to the black screen with white solid light on power indicator????  I went through the same above process at least 3 times and again today a few times and I can't figure it out and I tried to search and search and I couldn't find anything like what I am experiencing.....What happened?  Please help this slow Imac is killing me.  It will work with 1gb ram only nothing more?  Here are the specifics of my Imac.
It is a 20" Late 2006 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB graphics card and Ram with now only 1gb (did have 3gb) and I am running OSX Lion 10.7.5

  • I have an iMac that won't boot up.  I've read all posts on this subject to no avail.  When power is switched on, it chimes, Apple logo appears, spinning wheel, then loading bar starts to fill.  It gets to about 25% then switches off! Help please!

iMac that won't boot up!   When power is switched on it chimes, Apple logo appears, then loading bar, then spinning wheel.  Bar seems to load up and gets to around 25%, then reverts to the start again, gets to about 20% on the bar and then switches itself off leaving a black screen.  Tried all the remedies on internet with no avail so would welcome some advice other than binning what is a relatively new computer.  Earliest appointment Apple could offer was Thursday 17th, really useful for a business user _ not impressed,

You've probably tried this, but will it Safe Boot? Restart holding down the Shift key until you see the grey progress bar. You'll need to input your admin password during bootup. If it will boot you can then try to eject the disk using the various suggestions here that you haven't tried already:

  • IMac will no longer boot ANY version of Windows CD/DVD

I have a 20" unibody iMac 8,1 that originally came with Leopard and has been upgraded to Snow Leopard (currently 10.6.1). During Leopard days, it had Boot Camp running Windows XP (for games) and worked fine. At some point, boot camp was removed and the system was returned to a single partition. Recently, I've decided to install Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (retail cd) and so went through the Boot Camp Assistant to create a new boot camp partition and launch the Windows installer DVD. After going through the partition process successfully, the Windows 7 DVD failed to boot, ending in a black screen with a flashing underscore ( _ ). I tried to boot the Windows 7 DVD several times with the same result. Thinking that somehow the Windows 7 DVD was damaged, I got out my Windows XP install CD and tried to boot that, with the same result (black screen blinking underscore _ ). I tried this with a retail copy of Vista Ultimate 32 bit, with the same result. I have run Disk Utility and verified the disk contains no errors. I have tried manually forcing the boot to the Windows install DVD/CD's by holding Alt during boot, and manually clicking on them, with the same result. I have backed up the entire HD with Super Duper and erased the disk and then restored the from Super Duper copy, in case there was a problem with the partition table. All with same result, blinking underscore on a black screen when attempting to boot off Windows install media.
This machine used to have boot camp successfully running XP under Leopard. Now I can't even boot from a Windows install CD/DVD (any kind of windows). What has happened? Did the Snow Leopard installation change something? Is there a firmware update that is needed? I have tried resetting PRAM and SMC with no result. I am out of ideas. All of these windows install disks work fine if I boot them with my MacBook Pro. It's just the iMac that won't boot a Windows install DVD/CD, of any kind.
    Help!

I can boot both Snow Leopard and Leopard install disks, no problem. I cannot boot ANY version of Windows install disk (XP, Vista, 7). My Super Duper backup was a backup of my Snow Leopard install to reformat the drive, since one theory was that the partition table was messed up. No go.

I replaced my hard drive and I backed up my files on an external hard drive but when I reloaded my iweb to my imac none of my files were on it so I can't make changes to my Published web site have I lost my files what can I do

By default iWeb keeps its data in (user)/Library/Application Support/iWeb in a file named Domain. Without this file you cannot proceed (other than by recreating the site from scratch using the published version as a reference) so you need to locate it on the original disk.
To confuse matters, Apple have hidden the user’s Library folder in Lion and Mountain Lion to casual viewers, in an attempt to stop new Mac users messing their machines up. To access it, in the Finder go to the ‘Go’ menu and hold down the Option (Alt) key; the Library folder will appear as a choice.

  • Can video chat with Imac non-intel but not with Powerbooks

    Hi,
I have a Linksys WRT54G firmware v. 1.0.6 connected to a Comcast Cable modem. My IMac Intel Duo (OS 10.4.6) is connected via ethernet cable to the router. I am set to DHCP on router and IMac. My Quicktime settings is at 1.5mb, I have tried with firewall off and on with the appropriate ports open. I have tried upnp on and off.
I can connect to other Imacs (non-intel) but not to powerbook G4's. With the Powerbooks I can text chat, but sometimes they can see my text, but I can't see theirs. And every video chat is a fail to respond with the powerbook, but they can connect with others.
Is there anything else I can do?
    Please help. Thanks.

    Hi cmbell,
Do you know how to access your modem ?
This should give you somewhere to turn off DHCP.
Then you go to System Preferences > Network and select the connection method you are using.
    Then select the TCP/IP tab.
In the drop down that says Using DHCP change it to Manually. (or Manual with DHCP if doing James' way)
Type the IP you wish to use in the next entry field.
Copy the subnet mask form the Using DHCP
    Copy any DNS servers listed.
Copy the router IP address which will be the modem or router in question.
    Hit Apply.
    Done.

  • 27" iMac (NON RETINA) video card configuration options!?

    Hello,
Regarding the 27" iMac (NON RETINA) model, you have the option to upgrade to either the 2GB NVidia card or the 4GB NVidia card.  I was wondering if the 4GB card is really necessary or if the 2GB card would be more than enough for my needs?  I basically use a computer for normal/everyday tasks (such as E-Mail, web surfing, chat, webcaming, watching videos (which will include streaming/mirroring with Airplay to my HDTV), basic photo editing, occasional video editing (again basic personal/everyday types of editing) etc...
I am coming from a Windows world where every thing freezes up on me (I can't even use Facebook on my current Windows 8 machine without Facebook constantly freezing up on me) it's driving me insane!  Granted I have a very cheap laptop right now so I'm sure most of the problems is related to the hardware but I don't want to have to deal with this if I move over to the Mac world so I want to make sure I get what I need.
I'm assuming a 4GB video card is perhaps overkill for me but wanted to make sure before I order.
    Thanks!

Are you saying that for video watching (either local media or online streaming), airplay to Apple TV, personal video editing (home vids etc) that the video card does not improve performance, whether it's a integrated card, 512MB card, 1GB card, 2GB, card, etc?  If so I never knew that lol, I always thought the larger the video ram was the better overall performance your display would provide.
So if I got the standard 1GB card with the 27" model, you are saying that would provide the same performance to me as if I upgraded the card to the 2GB or 4GB card?  If so I feel really stupid right now...
    I am, my 2011 27" iMac with a 512GPU supports Airplay and 2 AppleTV's perfectly!

Upgrade from snow leopard 10.6.8 to montain lion on a iMac system won't boot getting a crossed out circle

Clean install OS.10.6.8 update it completly. May be you ignored some firmware update.
    I have two incedents.
My thunderbolt port stopped working after upgrading to ML 10.8. I booted from external 10.6 , 10.7 still didnt work. Then i clean installed 10.6.8 and ran software update it updated the thunderbolt firmware and all is well now. This firmware update for some reason didnt show up in ML 10.8.
Secondly , when i upgraded my Brother's Macbook from 10.5 to 10.6.3 it would install but stuck with crossed out circle. Then i downgraded checked for update found an efi update , then the 10.6.3 worked fine.

  • I have a number od cds referring to X-rays and MRI scans which played perfectly on my old PC, but now that I've migrated to an imac none of them will open. Any suggestions? I am anything but an expert.

Another thought, if they're just typical image files like jpegs, or PDFs or some other universal file format.  Have a friend with a windows computer copy the contents of the CDs to an external media source (flash drive, external HDD etc) and copy them to your mac.
If they were burned by the medical staff to be ran as a program then they may not be comptable with Mac OS.  If this is the case see about having a friend copy the images for you.

I have no experience with FCP 7, so I make these remarks in a vacuum.
Some day your "old mac" will die!
I have installed Snow Leopard Server in Parallels so as to be able to access Rosetta and run the old PowerPC applications.
You may be able to run FCP 7 and its components in Parallels running an earlier version of OS X, such as Snow Leopard Server or Lion.
Apple discounted the price of Snow Leopard Server by 95% and it is my advice to anyone who may have such a future need to purchase it now for $20 and put it on the shelf for that later need.  If/when Apple ever eliminates the discount or ceases sales of Snow Leopard Server at all, its price on the third party market will once again skyrocket.
You can obtain Snow Leopard Server from The Apple Store 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only).
PS: RCA abandoned that logo in this country and my avatar is now my trademark (servicemark) in the State of California!
