IMac not broadcasting to Airport

My iMac was playing songs through my stero earlier today using Airport. Now it doesn't. It plays them on the iMac just fine. I have a PowerBook and it will play through the Airport just fine. There must have developed something wrong in the iMac to AirPort connection. Can anyone give me a clue where I should look for the problem? I have iTunes 6.04.
Thanks
Carl

I think I have the same issue.
My iMac is connected to the TimeCapsule via ethernet (though I do have wifi running to synch a few apps with iphone).
My problem is that I have my iPhoto library file on the TimeCapsule so that it can be accessed by other family members.  Almost invariably, when I plug in my iPhone, iPhoto pops up and asks which library to use even though I have indicated that the iphoto library on the TimeCapsule is to be the default.
So, in essence, I don't have to log back in, only re-connect almost always which is a pain.
Any ideas appreciated!

  • IMac not seeing my Airport Extreme

How do I get my iMac to see and connect wirelessly to my Airport Extreme?
When I turn on Airport on my iMac (PowerPC G5) it does not see my Airport Extreme that is in the same room. It sees the wireless networks of my neighbours. My work PC laptop sees the Airport and successfully connects. Advice please?

Thank-you for the prompt response. I have already gone to the Network setting (right after posting). It shows the network name with 'none' under security. It does not give me the option of 'Apply Now' but rather 'Assist Me' going through that process has not been successful.

  • Why is my iMac not detecting my AirPort Express

I just got an AirPort Express, and my iMac won't detect it using the AirPort Utility.  How do I resolve this issue?

In order for the AirPort Utility to "find" the new AirPort Express Base Station (AXn), you must first connect the iMac to the AXn's wireless network. By default, the AXn will broadcast an unsecure wireless network with a name like: Apple Network NNNNNN.

  • IMac not conecting with airport express

Could you help me because i have some problems with my IMac that not connecting with air port express even if wifi signal going on....

Look for the model number on your AirPort Express. It's on the side of the device in the faint print.
It will likely be either A1084 or A1088, which are older versions of the product produced up until 2007.
If you have either of these models, AirPort Utility in the Mountain Lion operating system no longer supports these older versions of the AirPort Express.
If you have another Mac there using the Leopard 10.5.x or Snow Leopard 10.6.x operating system, you can use that Mac (or a PC) to administer the old AirPort Express.
It might also be possible to use a workaround......not supported by Apple, so success cannot be guaranteed. If you want to try that, check out this thread:

  • New iMac wifi slow on Airport network, not on Fastweb

I just replaced our old iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz, Airport Extreme Card 802.11 a/b/g/n - OS 10.6.8) a new refurbished iMac 27-inch (late 2012) (OS 10.8.4).  The new computer works great, except with wifi - it is painfully slow on our Airport network, even though the old iMac still runs perfectly fast on that network.
We have two wifi networks in our house (in Rome, Italy).  Our internet comes in through the Italian company Fastweb, and its wireless router limits us to only 3 devices.  Both computers have fast internet connectivity when we hook up one (or both) to our Fastweb network (802.11g).  But that's not a good long-term solution because we need our main computer to talk wirelessly with other devices (like our printer and speakers running off an Airport Express booster).
So for the last three years we have also had an Airport base station (802.11n) based off the Fastweb network. We use the Airport network to connect most of our devices (including iMac, MacBooks, printer, iPads, iPhones, and two Airport Extremes -- one for speakers in the next room, and another to boost the signal throughout the house).  For some reason, the new iMac is painfully slow when it connects to our Airport network -- it can take 2 minutes to load a web page on the Airport network, which takes 2 seconds to load on the Fastweb network.  I would've thought that the problem lay with our Airport network, except that it's still plenty fast with our other computers.  The only problem seems to be the new iMac talking to the Airport network.
Could the problem lie with the Airport Extreme card in the new iMac?  It is a refurbished machine, not new.  Should I just be taking the machine into the nearest Apple Store?  We did buy AppleCare . . . .
Thanks very much for any ideas!

  • Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID

Set the Airport Extreme to not broadcast the SSID

"Hiding" the SSID will do nothing to protect you from hackers.....and anyone else who wants to see your network, since there a numerous free utilities on the Internet that will reveal your network in seconds.
On the other hand, it might keep a few honest neighbors from seeing the name of your wireless network.
iOS devices often have trouble connecting to a "hidden" network, so you may need to display the network if your iPhone, iPad, etc have trouble connecting to the network.
    Your call on this.
Assuming that you have Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks on your MacBook Pro.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the smaller window
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options at the bottom of the window
Enter a check mark in the box next to Create Hidden Network
Click Save, then click Update and allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart

  • Airport on G5 iMac not connecting

After the latest update (10.5.3) and even with the Airport Leopard 5.3.1 update I can only connect to the net via Ethernet as I get the message that I do not have an airport card installed. The airport shows on the menu bar and is connected to my DLink G604T wifi router, but cannot connect to the net this way.
So, what to do; can anyone make any suggestions please

I have a US-122 and it worked fine on my FP iMac, my iBook G4 and my new 21.5 inch iMac, but not the MacBookPro.
I believe that the problem is that the MBP cannot supply enough bus power. You will need to gt a powered USB hub to use it with the MBP. I gave away the MBP for other reasons before I had a chance to try this, but I have seen other folks on the net solve the problem this way.

  • Itunes will not stream to airport express from iMac. It will work from and HP laptop any reason why?

Problem with Itunes on the iMac. I bought airport express to setream music to my stereo. When I set it up  on the iMac (using an ethernet connection) it dropped my internet connection on the router. When I use the Wifi  it just times out. I tried using the airport express from my laptop, it worked just fine. I called apple for support and they  have not beeen able to help, and I am now 79 dollars in the hole because they suggested I call cisco. I have also spent 6 hours on the phone. any Help would be appreciated.

I got it to work. Turns out there are a few steps that should be taken during the install of ariport express. We have 4 users on our iMac, one being the Administrator, one a guest, and 2 users. After I closed all the applications for each users and logged them off, I was able to connect sucessfully to Airport Express and stream music to my Stereo. Seams simple, but someting we did not look at in my 6 hour marathon yesterday trying to find the reason it did not work.

  • Imac will not connect to Airport Extreme when configured WPA/WPA2

Imac will not connect to Airport Extreme when configured WPA/WPA2
    Posted: Jul 5, 2007 8:22 PM Reply
I just got my Imac to connect to the internet using my Airport Extreme but only by using WEP. I had my Windows XP SP2 machines connecting using WPA/WPA2 with no problem. The Imac will not connect using anything other than WEP, and 1 of the XP machines will not connect using WEP.(I have not tried the other XP machines) I had to set the Airport Extreme for an open network in order to let both computers access the shared hard drive and access the internet.
I don't know what the problem might be and would appreciate any suggestions.
MacBookPro, Imac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Fujitsu tablet PC, 2 XP desktops

hehe...on the visuals. I figured it out already, and I have the old airport card. However, I did a chat with Apple support and while we were chatting I found a USB adapter with MAC drivers which will work. It is:
Hawking Technology HWUG1A Wireless-G USB Adapter with Removable Antenna for Macintosh
    Manufacturer Part# HWUG1A
That is the only adapter that actually does WPA/WPA2 that I can find that is for a Mac and not just an older USB that only does WEP. It surprises me that Apple does not have a USB product like this. Anyway, for $56 including shipping, I will have it by Monday or Tuesday. Pretty cool.
Thank you so much for your assistance. It is appreciated.

  • My 2011 intel dual core duo iMac apparently has "Airport" ans apparently it is "on" although the icon (upper right) is gray. I'm not sure what "airport" is

My 2011 intel dual core duo iMac apparently has "Airport" ans apparently it is "on" although the icon (upper right) is gray. When I click on the <gray> airport icon it says it's "on" and the option is to turn it off.
I'm not sure what "airport" is, and I have no idea what a router is supposed to accomplish. I got a "smartphone" (not an iPhone, an android) and at a "Smartphone class" at the senior center I was told I need a router.

    Oly wrote:
OK, so, in installing a router could I attach the router to my Verizon DSL modem and have the iMac get it's internet from the router by wi-fi?
This way I could place the router 1/2 way between the only two places in my home where wifi devices (wife's tablet, my iMac) are.
    Yes, exactly.
For the router I suggest you consider one of the three Apple AirPort Base Stations, not only because it will be easier to get help with using them on this website, but they are generally regarded as the most reliable wireless routers. Technical support directly from Apple is free for the first 90 days.
Slightly cheaper alternatives exist. I have tried other manufacturer's wireless routers, and I don't recommend them.

  • My airport utility does not find my airport express device

My airport utility does not find my airport express device

In order for the AirPort Utility on your iOS device to find the Express, both need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. By default, the Express will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Can you iOS device find this network?

  • Airport Extreme wireless stopped working/not recognized by Airport Utility

I have a 2nd gen Airport Extreme that's been working fine for years (the last time I changed the configuration was 2.5 years ago when I switched internet providers). Here's my problem:
Woke up this morning and tried to check the weather on my iPad Air. No internet connection.
Looked at Airport: light is green, all cable modem lights are normal
Tried Airport Utility on iPad: initially couldn't connect, then asked for a password; never got any status/config info
Tried Airport Utility on my iMac, which has a direct ethernet connection to the Airport: same as on iPad
Note: Airport Extreme status LED was green throughout this
    Next:
Unplugged Airport, then reattached power. Now LED is blinking orange (after startup); still doesn't appear in Airport Utility on iMac
iPad no longer recognizes my wifi; my wireless network is not detected at all by any of my wireless devices (ID doesn't show up in list of available networks)
Switched ethernet cables for connection from iMac to Airport: still not detected in Airport Utility
After this I did the factory reset (held down reset button); nothing changed, still not detected in Airport Utility
And then I had to leave for work.
Does this sound like my Airport has gone bad? The fact that the wifi no longer seems to work at all and it's not detected in Airport Utility makes me think it has.

Please start another post for your question, as you do not have a 2nd Gen AirPort Extreme...and...you are also asking about extending the network.
Include information about "how" the AirPort Express connects to the Time Capsule.....wired connection?....wireless connection?
What operating system are you using on the computer that is used to administer the AirPort Express?

  • I cannot get my iMac with built-in airport to allow internet connections to Nook and PS3. The devices access the network, but internet connection fails. Internet sharing is enabled, network security (WEP, WPA) is completely off.  What to check next?

I cannot get my iMac with built-in airport wi-fi to allow internet connections to Nook and PS3. The devices access the network, but internet connection fails. Internet sharing is enabled, network security (WEP, WPA) is disabled.  What to check next?

On an additional note, I've purchased a wireless router and everything connected on the first attempt.  It just vexes me that the built-in wireless isn't working as a router.  Is this another example of "Mac only plays with Mac"?

  • Airport extreme does not appear in airport utility and will not reset

    Hi,
Here's the problem: My base station wasn't letting me reconfigure its settings via ethernet or airport. I unplugged all cables and performed a hard reset. Now, it will not appear in airport utility either on ethernet or wireless, and it will not revert to the factory 'Apple Network #######' broadcast. It is still showing the name of the previous network in my computer's airport settings. Also, running iStumbler, it too does not see a new network.
Question: Is it fried? If not, what should I do?
    Thanks.

I'm may be having the same problem:
Airport Utility doesn't find the base station, despite being connected with ethernet and even now while I'm actually connected to the internet through it via Airport. In my first experience, I reset the base station, and then it did show up, though, as you said, not reset to factory defaults. On another occasion, it wasn't showing up again, but did the next morning when I sat down. Weird. This is on an Alum. PB 15" running Tiger (10.4.11). I also just got an Oct 08 MBPro with 10.5.5 and it's copy of Airport Utility is finding the base station right now while this machine is not. Is this some kind of bug? Both copies of Airport Utility are 5.3.2 (532.8)
