IMac not detecting earbuds.

I had bought a new pair of earbuds yesterday, they work on my iPad but not my iMac,
The things I had done too try and fix this is:
Reset PRAM / NVRAM.
Fiddle around with the audio jack with a toothpick & clear it out with a can of air.
Turn off my iMac, plug in the headphones, and turn it back on.
Check the sound settings through the prefrences & Alt+Click the Sound Icon.
Slowly unplug the headpones and slowly plug them back in.
Like I said, I'm sure the headphones work because my iPad detects them, just not my iMac.

If it is a earlier model that has both Audio Input and Output (headphone) Jacks, are you plugging the buds into the correct port..?

  • IPhone 4S bluetooth not detecting earbud

Just bought an iPhone 4S. It is not detecting the earbud I used with my previous iPhone 3G. I have turned off the 3G, so it is no longer paired with the earbud (there shouldn't be a conflict for the 4S to pair). I have reset the the settings of the 4S. Restarted the phone. Restarted the earbud. The iPhone's bluetooth perpetually stays in "search" mode and does not detect any devices. Any suggestions?

Found a solution from another discussion thread. This worked:

This solved my questionRe: My iphone 4 cannot find bluetooth headset after ios 5 upgrade     Oct 17, 2011 8:12 AM    (in response to karenmetfan)
Ok, for those of you who have a Plantronics Voyager Pro bluetooth headset, I got a connection/"pairing". This is what I did:
    1) I turned off my bluetooth headset.
    2) Go to Settings in iPhone and turn "on" your bluetooth so that it is searching ...
    3) Then I turned on the headset until I saw the blue light, AND CONTINUED to HOLD DOWN the on/off switch until the blue light was FLASHING.
    4) The "pairing" took place during the flashing.
Holding down the power button on your Voyager Pro headeset acts like as a "hard reset", and starts a "new" search for a new device or new software, in this case it's iOS5 or your new iPhone, or both.
Before doing the steps above my iMac (desktop computer) had the same problem of not "discovering" my bluetooth headset. But after I did the steps, I set my iMac to "discover mode" and the "pairing" between these two devices was successful.
    OTHER bluetooth headsets
Try doing a "hard reset" on your bluetooth device, if you are trying to connect with an iPhone, iPad, or desktop computer that is running iOS5 or Lion.
The problem seemed that my bluetooth headset was trying to connect with devices that were paired with previous operating systems (ie: iOS4 or Snow Leopard). When I upgraded my operating systems to iOS5 and Lion, my bluetooth needed to "start fresh", hence the "hard reset" on the bluetooth.

  • IMac not detecting the internal speakers

I am new to Apple and just got an iMac. Sounds worked initially, but stopped after a software update. The internal speakers aren't being detected. Tried to reset the PRAM and unplug the system. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

Are you sure you did the smc and pram reset correctly?
Short of removing the audio plists in /Library/Audio I am not sure what the problem is at the moment.
By the way, look at the More Like This section on the right side of these pages for the similar problem.

  • Imac not detecting projector through bnc cable

I can not get the imac to output the resolution needed for the projectors. I need a way to force the imac to output 1280 x 800 to the VGA display. We have numerous locations where this is an issue. We do not have the luxury of running straight VGA cables to the projectors, thus the imac can not recognize the projectors. Please advise, how to make the imac function fluidly without detecting the projector.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    You might try capturing the projector's EDID with this device and then using it to notify the iMac to what display device it is connected;

UPDATE - On closer look I see that this device appears to be DVI only. I have searched the developer's site but cannot find a similar device for VGA. Perhaps a phone call to the developer would alert you to a solution.

  • Hp6500 imac not detecting

I have an HP 6500 and an iMac.  The two machines have worked fine for several years.  But now the scan function is no longer working on the HP 6500--I get a message that "no scanner is detected"  Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds like you are having issues scanning on your 6500. To be clear is this the E709a? There are six models which go by the model of 6500, and it is important this is correct.
To start, have you tried removing the software and reinstalling it from the HP website (linked below)?

  • Why is my iMac not detecting my AirPort Express

I just got an AirPort Express, and my iMac won't detect it using the AirPort Utility.  How do I resolve this issue?

In order for the AirPort Utility to "find" the new AirPort Express Base Station (AXn), you must first connect the iMac to the AXn's wireless network. By default, the AXn will broadcast an unsecure wireless network with a name like: Apple Network NNNNNN.

  • IMac not detecting external displays

I have a mid-2010 iMac which, for a long time, ran with a Samsung TV as a double monitor through the mini displayport (via a VGA adapter). This past Christmas, I received a Yiynova MSP19U artist's tablet, which also uses a VGA connector. After installing the drivers and everything, it connected and worked just fine. However, every time the iMac would go to sleep (or the monitor was disconnected and reconnected), it would stop recognizing the external monitor. I would have to shut the whole thing down and reset the PRAM. Usually, after doing that a few times, unplugging and replugging, it would recognize it again. However, yesterday, it disconnected, and now it won't reconnect. I've cleared the PRAM multiple times, I've cleared the SMC, I've unplugged both devices and all peripherals and then turned them all on together and separately. I've also tried to connect another monitor that uses VGA, but still, nothing is connecting. I've connected the tablet to my wife's PC, and it works just fine. I'm at my wit's end with this whole thing. Does anyone have any other potential solutions, or do I just need to take it to the Genius Bar?
Another issue may be that after it disconnected yesterday, it needed a software update restart, which I allowed (an update for Mountain Lion, which is what I'm running on the computer). I don't know if that would've affected anything.
    Thanks for the help.

You have done some of this already.

  • My imac will not detect external monitor after recent update. Is there a way to fix this?

I have a VGA monitor plugged in to my imac using the VGA adapter to the mini-DVI.  All was working well.  Since I updated over the weekend, the computer will not detect the monitor.
Any ideas how to fix this?

    Pcantin wrote:
I have tried another VGA monitor and that failed as well.  Since you don't think the update was the cause, it may be that the adapter I am using decided to call it quits.  I will see if I can find another and test that out.
I will look into the external drive idea as well.
Thanks for your help on this.
I didn't think about the adaptor, but you should at least visually inspect both the adaptor and the cable at both ends. If one or more pins got bent even slightly the connection might fail. The cables can also fail internally. Replacing the adaptor and cable may be the quickest thing to do initially. If you want to try to save money, first replace the adaptor, and if the problem persists, then go replace the cable (or vice versa).

  • Imac does not detect external vga display

Please help with connecting external vga display to an imac 21.5'', late 2012, OS X 10.8.5 via Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
I have connected an external monitor (Fujitsu Siemens) to the thunderbolt port of the imac using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The imac does not detect the external monitor. I have followed all instructions and suggestions I could find at Apple Support Communities without success.
The monitor is in perfectly good working order as it has no problem connecting and performing flawlessly with a dell windows laptop. The imac, connected via the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to the D-Sub connector of a Samsung smart TV, also worked perfectly.
To add insult to injury, occasionally, when restarting the iMac with the external vga display connected and powered on, the iMac screen starts intermittently turning blue for a brief second or so and resuming back to normal. The frequency of 'blueing' is once in 2-3 seconds. This particular rather disturbing problem, luckily ceases when the external display is switched off.
Any advice and help with resolving the above connection problems will be gratefully appreciated.
    Thank you

I am having the same issue.  Hope Apple can fix this soon!!!

  • IMac 24" could not detect external monitor (early 2009 model)?

I am trying to add a second monitor to my iMac through the mini Display port with a mini-Display to VGA convert cable, somehow my iMac could not detect the second monitor at all on the preference-display menu. After connected the cable and an external monitor I restarted iMac a few times, the external monitor still could not be detected.
Any suggestions? Any simple method to test if the mini Display port is working properly? My iMac OSX 10.8.5
    Thanks
    David

    Hi,
Just tried another miniDisplay - VGA cable, it works! No need to restart iMac. Immeditely I can bring display windows to the second monitor, say, a DVD movie play to the second monitor while working on the main iMac monitor for other tasks.

  • Has anyone tried to pair the Tzumi bluetooth headphones to their iMac?  My iMac will detect the device, connect to it for about 2 seconds, then shows a status of "not connected".  Multiple attempts get the same result.

Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

  • New 27" iMac ejecting external hard drive and not detecting it consistently

I purchased my iMac from Best Buy two days ago and am wondering if I have a lemon. During the process of transferring files via an external hard drive I have noticed a number of issues. My old 2007 iMac had no problem reading the drive but my new iMac keeps ejecting the disk every couple of minutes. I will get a message in the corner of my computer stating that it was not ejected properly.
At one point, the new iMac would not read the drive at all. I plugged in my iPhone and it detected it at first but eventually ejected it and would not detect it again either, not even to charge it. I restarted the computer and it started detecting the iPhone and the external the drive, but now I am back to getting the same error message. I have tried to repair the disk using disk utility and it does not detect any problems. I also tried using every single usb port.
I would appreciate any suggestions and will be taking it back if it keeps having issues.
