IMac not keeping track of browsing history.

Hi,  Please help with browsing history issue on iMac.  It seemed to have frozen so I pushed 'clear history' which it did but now it's not keeping track of any history at all.
Thanks.

If it is I don't know how it got like that.  Up until a few days ago it was not in private browsing and I did nothing knowingly to put it there.  In trying to solve this problem I learned that there is such a thing as "private browsing' and I tried to see if it got set inadvertently, but I can't even find how to get to it.

  • Why do my songs and audio books keep getting erased when I add a new book?  Now some books will not play and the iPod does not keep track of where I was when I pause a book, leave for music and then go back!

    About a month ago I added some new audio books to my iPod Classic and then after disconnecting, I discovered EVERYTHING had been erased.
    I had to restore through my iTunes but then I could not load my music back on.
    I uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes and completely reformated the iPod drive.
    I successfully got my music and books back on but then added a new book two days ago only to discover everything got erased AGAIN!!!
    Of course, my 1 Year Warranty was up about a week before the first incident.....
    I formatted the iPod again, uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes (it was freezing during sync) and downloaded all my music and books again.
    Now I have several books that will not play (they play on iTunes and they played on the iPod before all these events) and the iPod does not keep track of where I was in a book when I have to stop and go to something else.
    Does anyone know what is going on with this thing???  I have a 5th Gen Video and in all the years I've had it, I've NEVER had problems like this!
    Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get my iPod Classic up and running properly again?
    Thanks.

    When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
    The timeout failure could be due to
    Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
    Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
    Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.
    Preferably stop doing other things while syncing this ancient device, which the latest iTunes designer, think will soon be extinct.
    Have a nice day!

  • Firefox keeps deleting my browsing history without warning

    I have never had this problem before but all of a sudden Firefox keeps deleting all my browsing history even though I have it set to keep history and cookies. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, I've tried going through the Firefox options for my history and now I'm fed up. I like being able to use the predictive web address when surfing so any information as to why this is happening would be wonderful.

    Try to delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
    If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

  • After upgrading to Firefox 3.6.11, the browser does not see my previous browsing history, and does not save new history. places.sqlite is still in place. Is there a way to fix this without erasing previous history?

    Bookmarks are still being updated and saved. Recently closed tabs, Recently closed windows are being recorded as they should. I have a single .json file on my profile directory, search.json. I don't know if there should be another one for the browsing history. It looks like some index file for the history database was lost or corrupted, or re-created as an empty file. places.sqlite-journal has zero bytes; places.sqlite-stmtjrnl has 37 kbytes, date 2008-07-15.

    I kept trying to solve this problem, and after a few unsuccessful attempts, the only thing which worked was uninstalling Firefox (keeping all my customizations) and then reinstalling Firefox 3.6.10 (which is apparently no longer available at mozilla.org, but which I could easily find at filehippo.com). The unsuccessful attempts I made were: (1) Install Firefox 4 beta; (2) uninstall Firefox 4 beta, Firefox 3.6.11 (in both uninstalls, keeping my customizations), and reinstall Firefox 3.6.11.
    So right now I am stuck at Firefox 3.6.10, or I will loose access to my browsing history. If anyone at Mozilla.org is reading this, I would suggest taking a look at this issue to see if it can be reproduced and fixed. I am running Windows XP (fully updated), Brazilian Portuguese version.

  • Firefox 4 does not show the current browsing history, and I cannot acess my privacy tab in the options

    My browsing history is incomplete, it only shows through August. I also cannot access the privacy tab in the options folder, nor can I click on the stop private browsing.

    Maybe your Trend Micro took over the Privacy tab in Options?
    Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
    ''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
    If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • How can I get a "real" history where the sites won't get deleted when I open them again and I can track my browsing history in full detail??

    When I open a site the old entry in the history is deleted. How can I disable this feature? I need a full detailed history for my work. I do lots of research online and sometimes it's important for me to see which pages I visited on a particular day.
    For example:
    If I opened "http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/" yesterday and opened it again today I couldn't see it in Yesterdays history. I really need this feature for my work.
    Thanks for reading
    PS: On my other system I have a current version of Firefox (Win 7). Same Problem.

    This is entirely my complaint.
    I have to sit without useable internet for 5 days when there is no fault, before anyone does anything about it ? BT visit the village to do something for another customer, mess up my perfectly working broadband, and then refuse to do anything about it for 5 days. And I pay full price during that time. Let's just hope they don't come back to do something else within those 5 days !!!
    There isn't a fault with the line, it is perfectly stable. I just need somebody to use common sense and set the IP profile back to what it was.
    If the system is so clever, it could at least try moving off 135k to 512k say after an hour or so.
    I will try using that link though and see if somebody can do something !!
    Frustrated is not the word ! If I ran my business like this I'd have no customers left. I'm pretty sure that's not the first time somebody has posted that on here

  • Firefox keeps deleting my (older) history

    I keep a firefox history that dates back several years.
    Recently I discovered that my older history had been deleted without me doing anything. I was able to restore it from an older backup, losing months of newer browsing history in the process.
    Firefox *keeps* deleting my old history occasionally. I do not want this. I did not ask for it. There are articles on a setting called "browser.history_expire_days" but all I can find in about:config is a setting called browser.history_expire_days.mirror and I don't know what (if anything) will happen if I change it.
    I want this behaviour to stop in a reliable manner.

    So you are telling me there is no way to keep a longer browser history anymore?
    Apparently, you are unable to maintain responsiveness from using a moderately big database file, fair enough.
    Worse yet, your engineers do not understand that you DO NOT DELETE USER DATA without asking them. Yes, the history is user data.
    How disappointing.
    EDIT: I forgot to thank you for your answer, it was helpful regardless

  • ITunes 11 and keeping track of number of times a track is listened to

    iTunes 11 does not keep track anymore of number of times a song is played. It keeps the number you had before but does not increase the number after it is played. Anybody else has the same problem?

    For that you need to have a shift register or a feedback node and keep counting whenever the case structure case is executed the count will be increased by one see the attached snippet.
    Good Luck
    The best solution is the one you find it by yourself

  • Is it possible to restore deleted browsing history?

    I deleted my browsing history without realizing it would delete saved passwords. Now I cannot access my account on a certain website. Is it possible to recover my history, and will that get back my passwords?

    Passwords are not stored in the browsing history. If you delete your passwords, history or cookies it is not possible to recover them.

  • How to recover deleted browsing history?

    Hi All,
    I accidentally cleared all my browsing history in Safart via the Clear All History menu. Is there a way that i can recover the deleted history details?
    I didn't have Timemachine turned on.

    does it make a differnec if the time machine is on
    Not really. Your browsing history changes all the time, with every page you visit (or don't visit). New things are added while others are discarded. It would serve you no purpose to recover it anyway, unless you're snooping for something about where other users might have visited.

  • How to pop the stack and keep track of charFlag, in C?

    /* Below is am popping the stack, which works, but it does not keep track of the charFlag variable that is pushed onto the stack. Can you help me with modifying this *char pop (stackNodePtr ptr) so when it pops the value from the stack, and keeps track of the charFlag?
    Thank you very much in advance for your assistance!!!
    Note: This posts is an offspring of my previous question: _"Why is the stack, written in C, converting + to ascii 42 ?"_. I want to thank Xnav for the excellent suggestion of including a character flag to keep track of the datatype being pushed onto the stack. Thank you etresoft for variable renaming comment.
    typedef struct stackNode {
    int value;
    int charFlag;

    old = *ptr;
    *ptr = (*ptr)->next;
    free(old);
    return (sTop);

    //I added a global variable int gCharFlag to keep track of the popped charFlag. Will the code below work, or should I just return (*ptr)? Thank you once again!
    //struct, typedef and gCharFlag are stored inside of a .h file

  • How do I set a time period longer than 7 days for keeping my browsing history on my Macbook Pro? The instructions for doing so on a Windows PC do not work with a Mac.

    I am using Firefox 8.0.1. There seems to be no option anywhere in Preferences on my Macbook Pro for keeping the browsing history for a specific period of time. Earlier my history was kept for quite a while. Now it only shows for 7 days at the most, and if I quit firefox, it starts over again fro scratch the next time I open Firefox. Any suggestions? There are plenty of answers out there if you are using Windows, but I haven't found anything for using a mac.

    There is no time limit in Firefox 4+ versions for the history.<br />
    Firefox determines automatically how many pages can be kept without affecting the performance.<br />
    You can see the current value via the reads-only pref places.history.expiration.transient_max_pages on the about:config page.
    See:
    * http://blog.bonardo.net/2010/01/20/places-got-async-expiration
    If you lose the history then make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the browsing history.<br />
    Also make sure that you do not have cleanup software that might clean up files in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • My safari does not keep my history despite all the settings and adjustment i made to the safari preferences so as to be able to keep my browsing history. the browsing history is wiped out whenever i close safari.

    i use macbook pro mid 2012, OS X mavericks. my safari does not keep my history desp[ite all the adjustments made to the settings at safari preferences. my browsing history are cleared whenever i exit safari. i dont know why. i want to try and re - in stall it . the safari is version 7.0.1. but i dont know how.

    If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
