IMac not recognising Install disk

My late 2006 iMac wont recoginse my restore disks, ive recently fitted it with a new HDD as the other on failed, i formatted it as Mac Journaled and it will only recognise 10.5 upgrade disk, the problem is, i need to put 10.4 on to upgrade, what shall i do?

Make sure the disk is REALLY clean. No smudges or scratches. If that doesn't help you should be able to order a replacement set from Apple.

  • HD not recognised in disk utility during install.

I have a macbook (black) some years old. But it is working fine, some small glitches, so i decided to reinstall software.
However my Machintosh HD does not show up in disk utility when booting from the install disk and does not come up in the select destination option.
It shows instead 2.3 TB WDC..... and a greyed out disk under disk0s1
It does show up Machintosh HD in disk utility when I am logged in normally, I can and have repaired permissions and verfied disk (it tells me there are some problems and i should start up using install disc and repair).
I have tried restarting in safe-mode, singel user mode and recovery mode, but non of these short cuts work on start up, it just logs in normally.
One important piece of info... i had a new harddrive installed by apple about a year ago and they re-installed software, so it is not the original hardrive...
    Any clues ?

When it comes down to it, the more specific the information and details, the better, and helps if people continue to add theirs to AYM DB.
The WD Caviar (Blue) 640GB has been a great drive and no issues in any Mac, from early G5 1.6/1.8 to the latest and excellent performance. Then people started moving to Black thinking 5 yrs and 32MB must be better (I don't think that is true, and I've had new Black Caviar and older models fail equally.)
The Quad G5 (probably same for dual 2.5) support SATA II, support WD 10K VelociRaptor even.
But WD's new format while supported in Vista and Windows 7, may not.
And while SATA was suppose to usher in "no jumpers" when SSC and other features were timidly or rushed out, there were problems. Going native SATA has had hurdles. SATA 1.5Gbps mode being only one. Now there is advanced format jumper disable.

  • Can I boot imac from macbook install disk 1?

I'm trying to install BootCamp on my intel iMac but it keeps failing at the disk partition, now having repaired permissions and verified the disk the help file tells me to boot my iMac from a startup disk and then load a disk utility. I can't find my Install Disk 1 for my iMac but I do have one for my intel Macbook. Is there a utility prog that sits on the disk that is not device dependent or would it just not work? thanks in advance if anybody can help me....

    Hi,
the OSX discs that come with the Intel-Macs are usually bound to this Mac or at least this line of Mac and do not work on other Macs.
Therefor your chances are not good to use the MacBook disc.
Sorry to say you have to start a thorough search for the iMac disc.

  • IMac spits out install disk after a lot of clicking.

    I have a iMac 2009 10.5.8
Everythings is working perfectly but the disk slot. When I insert the install disk to do a reinstall the disk stay in a while, making clicking noises then the disk goes out. iMac doesn't recognise the disk. I did all the tests and all came out okay. Any help would be very much apreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

Most likely you'll need a new optical drive. (Apple can repair/replace the internal one.)
You may find it cheaper to just buy an external optical drive if the repair quote is too costly for you.
    External drives are generally $30-80
Usually more affordable than the price of a repair.
However, you could try doing an SMC reset and see if that helps.

Those resets can resolve optical drive laser issues very occasionally.

  • Disk on firewire 800 not recognised until disk on firewire 400 powered up? Any solutions?

I have a Seagate Freeagent connected to firewire 800 and a Maxwell Onetouch connected to the firewire 400. The Seagate is not recognised until I power up the Maxwell but if I power up the Maxwell during before the power up of the seagate the Seagate again is not recognised. The Seagate is the designated Time Machine disk. Also when sleeping (but not always) the Seagate is dropped and I get a "dosk not demounted " message on waking. Any solutions known to these mounting problems with the firewire connections? Thank you.

I am answering my own problem. Install Lion! Problem has been solved. I always thought it was an OS problem. Good news.

  • Did Mid-2011 iMac come with install disks?

I bought a new iMac today, and I want to sell the old one. Should I have install disks? I don't remember getting any.
How can I wipe the hard drive and install an OS without them?

Click here and try using the Internet Recovery system. If it's not available on that Mac, you need disks; if it is, it can be used to erase the internal drive and install a fresh OS.

  • Need iMac 5,1 install disk

My late 2006 iMac intel is working with boot camp, but has lost the Mac side volume information.  Tech Tool Pro 4 tests all show everything is find but has no Volume info.  I can launch Boot Camp with Window XP and all works fine.
I was  hopping to re-install the orginal system to recover, but I can't find the Orignal disk.  All other Install disks i have can't be read by the optical drive or get error "can't be installed"
Any thoughts on recovering the lost Mac Volumn info?

Call apple customer service. They may have a replace disk.

  • Imac 2006 - replace Install disk

    Hi all,
I was trying to re-install Tiger in my (really OLD ) iMac 2006 24. However, seems like it the install disk is corrupted
since the installation cannot continue after a point. To verify that the disk was the problem I did the disk verification
    step but it fails.
This model is so old that I don't know what to do to replace the disk. However, I still want to use the computer since
it's still OK for my parents since the only thing they need is just to check e-mail, skype and watching DVDs.
    Any ideas?
    thank you

Make sure the disk is REALLY clean. No smudges or scratches. If that doesn't help you should be able to order a replacement set from Apple.

  • Help - iMac not recognising speakers

    Hi All,
I hope this is posted in the right place, if not my applogies.
I've got a 21" iMac from 2009. I've tried to hook up some speakers today (old Sony speakers from my PC) and the iMac doesn't recognise when they are plugged in to the Line Out port - however when I plug them in the headphone port they work fine…
How do I get the iMac to recognise the speakers through the Line Out port? Is there any difference between plugging them in to the Line Out port and just plugging them in to the headphone port?
They worked fine on the PC and I'm puzzled…
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Adam

I believe that the port on the back of your iMac that you think is "Line-Out" is actually an "Audio in / optical digital audio in" port.
Therefore there is no sound coming out of it.
There is no reason why you shouldn't be totally happy using the Headphone jack for your Sony speakers.

  • Attempting Erase and Install...not booting install Disk!

So my G4 is stuck on the "blue screen". I rebooted with the install disk, performed a diagnostics test and everything was noted as "passed". So then I try to reinstall OSX from the disk and it says it can't perform the install.
The disk says "OSX for a G4 Disk 1". Is there any reason this would be occurring? Any solutions?
Is it possible that everything would pass the diagnostics test yet my harddrive is bad?
    thanks-

Since 10.4.9 never came out for a G4, and a MacBook is not a G4, we need to make sure you have the correct disc. There are Powerbook G4s, which say Powerbook beneath the screen, and are silver colored. If it says MacBook, it is not a G4.
Use my FAQ* to identify your Mac:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#IDENTIFY
Next tell us what it says on the disc. If they don't match, you have the wrong disc.

  • Imac not recognising firewire HD

I have a LaCie external hard disk and I've connected it via firewire but it's not seeing the disk. It used to work fine when I had it connected via USB to my airport express but I need the firewire connection to do a full (and faster) backup. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you tried resetting the Firewire port and the PRAM? See these two articles if you don't know how:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88338
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
If it doesn't work, check LaCie's website to find out if you have the latest firmware for their drive. If you do, e-mail LaCie support and tell them of your problem. Their e-mail address is firewire AT lacie.com.

  • Time machine not recognising external disk on airport extreme

    Hi
I have connected a LaCie d2 Quadra disk to the usb port on my airport extreme.
The disk is formatted as HFS+
If I look in Finder (with Bonjour computers enabled as displayed) I can see the external disk through the airport extreme.  I can enter the disk and see the drive (it is connected), but I cannot add files to the disk.
If I open Time Machine setup, I cannot see any external disk at all.
If I look in Airport utility, I can see the d2 Quadra listed as an external disk on the extreme, and I have set it up for File Sharing (using the device password)
Can anyone advise why Time Machine (OS-X Yosemite 10.10.1 on iMac) cannot see it?
And what to do to get it connected please to allow backups from any mac user's machine?
    Thanks
    Andy

So, LaCie advised to connect direct to Mac to check all ok.  It was.
As soon as the HD was plugged in directly, TM recognised it and asked if I want to use it for backup. In Finder, the d2 Quadra appears, I can open it, and transfer files directly to and from it.
For reference, the Airport Extreme is connected via Ethernet to the iMac I am using (so no WiFi in this particular chain of connectivity), and the Extreme firmware is the latest (7.6.4) for the model (802.11n)
The issue is that connecting to the USB port on the Extreme, I cannot get the HD to operate like this!
LaCie now state that they cannot help further!!!
Does anyone have any idea why the Extreme is not sharing the HD as it is meant to?
    Thanks
    Andy

  • IMac spits out install disk on restart

    Hi
    I have an imac G3 450 with DVD-rom currently running OS X 10.3.9
It has 576 megs of ram and a 20gig hard drive.
I want to install Tiger but when the computer restarts it spits the disc out I have also tried to boot 10.3 from the CD and it does the same. It only spits discs out on restart! I checked and repaired the hard drive permissions but it did not solve the problem!
Has anybody ever encounter such a situation?
    What can I do?
    Thanks for any advice

You're saying that if you give the restart command and hold down the "C" key until you hear the CD "grinding away," the CD gets ejected instead?
You can try this this method. It works on my iMac with the Panther Install CD.
Insert the Panther installation CD, Disk 1. Double click to open the CD. Double click on the top folder in that window, called "Welcome to Mac OS X."
At the top right is a file called "Install Mac OS X." Double-click on that. On my iMac, this bypasses the need to hold down the "C" key. After a warning window that your Mac will restart, it start up from the CD. Hopefully in your case, it will bypass whatever is causing the CD to be ejected.

  • IMac not recognising Sandisk 16GB SDHC card

    Hello everyone
having real difficulty downloading to iMovie content from my Canon Vixia HF100. The Sandisk VideoHD card I purchased will not under any circumstances be recognised by my iMac running 10.5.5. I even purchased a dedicated SDHC reader, but still to no avail. The only way, and then after much messing about, to get the video off the card is to directly connect the camera to the computer.
Has there been any issues with this card that anyone knows of? Should I go back to a standard 16GB SDHC card?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

"The only way, and then after much messing about, to get the video off the card is to directly connect the camera to the computer."
    That is the recommended procedure.
