Imac not "seeing" Time Capsule, Apple TV, or Wireless Printer

My Imac is connected to the wireless router, but can't connect to Wireless Printer, Time Capsule, or Apple TV? I can print wirelessly from Ipad and Iphone, but not my Imac. All of these things used to work fine, but have been down for the last few weeks. Any ideas? Thanks

Is Wi-Fi turned on on the iMac? You can look in System Preferences - Network and it will indicate or if you have the Wi-Fi symbol in the upper right of   your display you can click on that too.

  • New iMac not "seeing" Time Capsule

    Hi Everybody,
I am new to this forum. I attempted to find an answer to my problem but could not.
Last October, the optic drive on my 27" iMac started having problems. As it was still under guarantee, I took it to the vendor who advised that I back-up all data on it before doing so. I bought a Time Capsule from them, and was able through the Aiport Utility to set it up and back-up all data through Time Machine. Took the iMac back to the vendor and was eventually told it could not be repaired. As that coincided with the start of the wating for the new iMacs, I received a voucher and was able last week to get my new model iMac 27".
In the meantime I changed my wireless network at home. The iMac had no problem connecting to this wireless network, but when I attempt to get access to the Time Capsule on it, it states that no configured Airport base stations have been found. I made sure that the Time Capsule was correctly plugged into the new network, and also eventually reset the Time Capsule to factory settings, once live, and once after I unplugged it and reset it as it was starting up.
The iMac continues to show no Time Capsule in the Airport Utility, and the Time Capsule continues to flash its amber status light intermittently.
Any ideas, anybody else with the same situation?
    Thank you very much!

Do you have an ethernet cable by which you can connect directly to the Time Capsule to get it configured? Sometimes that works when the Mac can't see the network.
Do you see any other networks on the WiFi when you search for the Time Capsule's network?

I just bought TC and tried setting it up. When I open airport utilities, it scans but cannot find the TC. I've tried alot and looked at all the posts. But none of the posts state that the utility cannot find the TC. Does anyone have any ideas? I am about to return it.

Just got my 1 T today and had the same problem. My iMac core duo which I run my network on (it is hardwired to cable modem and I want to keep it that way) could not see the TC, but my macbook core duo 2 that is wirelessly connected to my iMac (which is my airport extreme station in house) could see it and I could start to configure but when I tried to set up it would not go past the configuration for password to join my existing local airport network.
So went to do other tasks and came back, and realized when I looked in my iMac airport to see what local networks existed I could actually see the TC that way. So I told airport to "join" the TC network and then I could access my settings on my iMac. All looked well and I again got stuck on the password setting to join my iMac network. That was an old WEP 40 bit password. Well I went back to airport and set up a 128 bit WEP password protection (required longer password of at least 13 chars) and then back to configure the TC via my iMac, and viola that worked, and I am now backing up my iMac wirelessly (while it still is connected to internet not TC) and also backing up my wife's G4 powerbook at same time. It is slow but backups are proceeding and all seems to be well.
I honestly do not know why the Airport utility worked fine on macbook but had to first join the TC network, but I suppose if I had dug around alot it had to do with the fact that my iMac was and is my local airport extreme basestation and it will not join via the utility. Do not know if others had that problem but I only figured it out by playing around.

  • Mac can not see time capsule

i bought Time capsule over Amazon .Air port works fine , but my mac can not see time capsule,,,sometime does , but most of the time not...
It is a problem with time capsule i have 2 T new generation

You don't mention what type of Mac you have, but is there any way you can move it around to see if that affects the problem?  If you hold down an "option" key while you pull down the AirPort/WiFi menu bar item, you should see a value labeled "RSSI" that is the strength of the wireless signal.   A value closer to zero is stronger.  For example, -30 is decent but -80 is poor.
By the way, you don't seem to have declared any of your system details in your profile or didn't select your details to be included in your post.  Those can help people give you correct advice.  To update that, click on "Your Stuff" near the top of a window on these discussion groups, then on "Profile".  Scroll down to "My Products" and either edit an existing one or add a new one.

  • Computers not seeing Time Capsule

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro and a G5 Mac pro and I bought a 2 Terabyte Time Capsule to back up my files on. When I originally tried to set it up, I went into Time Machine in the System Preferences and my computer saw and recognized the Time capsule. While going through the setup, it asked me if I wanted the time capsule to establish a wireless connection and (stupidly) I said no because I didn't think that was necessary. Now neither of my computers can see that the time capsule is even in the room. The Time Capsule has a blinking orange/yellow light, as opposed to the green light it had when I first powered it up. Can anyone tell me how I could reset the time capsule and get the option back for it to establish a wireless connection?

The Time Machine configuration and the Time Capsule configuration are separate issues. The orange light indicates that there is some Time Capsule configuration issue. I'd first try to use the AirPort Utility utility connect to your Time Capsule. If that is unsuccessful, try resetting the Time Capsule by pressing in the reset button for some seconds while you apply power. If that doesn't work, try temporarily connecting a Mac to the Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable until you can identify the problem and finish the configuration process.

  • Macbook does not see time capsule

I just purchased a time capsule to use as router an d backup. I connect using a DSL modem. I set everything up as instructed but could not find the time capsule using the time machine utility. I had to plug in an ethernet cable from time capsule to my macbook to set up the network.
When I tried to find the network using airport wirelessly, the network is not listed.
I have tried all sorts of things -- unplugging all and reconnecting as required etc etc.
Everything works fine -even backups - as long as I am wired in. However, the whole point is to go wireless.
    Any thoughts???
    Thanks

    kailuamacnut,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is the light on the TC green or amber?
Does your Airport menu show 4 solid bars? Or is it empty?
Once the network is created using the Airport Utility, you must use your Macs' Network Preferences to 'join' the new network you just created.
    Cheers!

  • Windows 7 does not see Time capsule as backup

I've followed a few threads regarding this issue but none of the solutions posted worked for me.  I've installed Windows 7 through bootcamp and installed the drivers correctly (I think) using the usb stick for my MacBook Air.
The problem I'm having is that when I try to setup my Time Capsule as a backup for Windows 7, it does not see it under drives or under network.  But strangely enough, Windows 7 does it see it under my computer as a network drive:  Z:.  I can even access the drive with no problems.
Does anybody have any suggestion as to how I can fix this issue?  I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on the MacBook Air recently refreshed running an i7.  The Time Capsule is on firmware 7.5.2 and AirPort Utility is version 5.5.3

I thought I was going to be able to see TC from my PC after reading this thread, but it seems I still need a pad on he shoulder. Here's what I've tried so far:
    From MAC, Airport Utility, I
    1) Clicked the “Enable File Sharing” checkbox
    2) Set the “AirPort Disk Guest Access” to: Read and Write
    3) Set my PC workgroup as MSHOME, just like on my PC.
My TC's name is "Frank's Time Capsule". In the PC world, I think this translate to "Franks-Time-Capsule"
From PC, I attempted to map the TC as a network drive. Start>Computer Right-Click>Map Network Drive...
    I tried the following combination:
    ://10.0.1.1\Franks-Time-Capsule
    ://10.0.1.1\Franks Time Capsule
No success: "The network path could not be found"
I then changed the name of my TC's drive to "TC" only.
    ://10.0.1.1\TC
Still no success: "The network path could not be found"
    My question, is
What is the exact path for mapping the TC as a network drive?
What are we mapping? The drive name or the TC name?
    Thank you so much....

  • Macs not seeing Time Capsule connected via Ethernet to router

Just bought a new Time Capsule to replace one where the hard disk failed.  I have a fibre router which is my primary WiFi network and the Time Capsule is connected to that by Ethernet.  The Time Capsule shows up in the Wired connections of the router so I know that the router can see the TC.  I have the Time Capsule set up to supply a separate WiFi network under a different SSID for legacy purposes as I have devices that are configured to that SSID before I got my new router.
The new TC will not backup successfully unless the Macs are connected to the TC SSID, failing with the message that the Backup Disk cannot be found.  This is different from the behaviour of the last TC where the Macs would see the network drive even when connected to the router SSID.
I'm sure there is a simple setting that I'm missing that would just make this work, but I can't work it out...

There are some issues which have popped up with the TC and some routers.. particularly that the WAN connection is not working correctly.
Try using one of the LAN ports on the TC and see if that helps.
Also open the Network utility in the computer and run the netstat scan .. it looks like this.
Locate the TC on the computer that is having issues.
Then ping it.. use the full domain..
eg in terminal mine is ping tcgen4.local
I think you should rename the TC to all smb names.. ie short, no spaces pure alphanumeric as it simply works better.
Then if the TC shows up in the ping, mount the hard disk manually,
In finder, Go connect to server and type
AFP://TCname.local (use the full domain name of the TC from the netstat scan).. or use the IP you get when you ping it.. although that is going to keep changing unless you can lock it.

  • Time Capsule and Lexmark S605 Wireless Printing

I have been a happy Mac user for years now and have convinced nearly all of my friends to make the switch. However, I recently a new MacBookPro which was bundled with a Lexmark S605 printer last week and have had nothing but issues...complete opposite of my previous experiences with Apple.
I cannot get this Lexmark printer set up to work over the Wifi connection to my time capsule. Have just updated the time capsule firmware and I still receive the "unable to connect to router" error on the printer (although it does recognize the network in the network list on the printer, it just will not connect). The wifi indicator on the printer is blinking in orange.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any help in getting this printer to work on my Wifi network would be much appreciated.
    Richard

Have you setup MAC Address access restrictions on your time capsule? If yes your lexmark mac-address can be found opening your printer.
    two recommendations:
    1) Although the s605 is wireless-n capable it works only on the 2.4 Ghz Band
    2) Don't install the Apple Lexmark Update (1 and 2) if you want to use it over wifi. Just install drivers and utilities from lexmark site.
    regards

  • Is the time capsule compatible with a wireless printer

I am trying to use my HP wireless printer with the time capsule. It is not working. Is it compatible?

    Yes, it should be ok..
BUT the rest of the WORLD speaks SMB.. as in fact does iOS.. and so you need to make things look nice to SMB.. in other words windows type networking.
By default the TC seems to end up with names which are wrong..
Use short names with no apostrophe.. or any other special character.. pure alphanumeric.. no spaces..
Passwords also .. nothing more than 20 characters.. names do not need to be long, 8-12 pure alphanumeric is plenty.
eg I name my TC.. TC
    Name 2.4ghz wireless, TC24ghz
Name 5ghz wireless TC5ghz (I recommend this to keep them separate and prevent auto swapping)
Lock the channel (This is optional but I find helps stability.. mainly for 2.4ghz.. there are three channels.. 1, 6, 11) Try each channel in turn.
Plug the printer into the computer by usb and run through the setup.
Put the wireless into infrastructure mode and put in the wireless name and security settings and passkey.
Complete the printer setup wizard and then disconnect the usb.. it might well be a good idea to restart everything.. Make sure the printer is in a position where there is good wireless signal.
Now what I found happens is the printer driver is confused by the fact you had it plugged in by usb. So see if the printer is accessible now.. if not delete the printer and start again.. it should pick it up now as a network printer.
I don't know what model printer you have so to get all the specifics right read the instructions.. You know that old saying.. when all else fails.. and after you post on the forum.. actually read the instructions.

  • Why does it take so long for time capsule to find my wireless printer?

Since I hooked up Time Capsule, it takes forever to find my wireless printer.  Why is that?

Did the Traceroute from the Network Utility Software and got the following results; however, not sure I know what I'm doing after that.  Sorry. My printer IP address is: 10.0.1.7.  The only other thing that attaches to my wifi is my laptop (macbookpro) and occassionally my wife's IPAD.

  • Help - G4 cannot see Time Capsule on Powerup

    Hi,
I have one computer - an old G4, an iPhone and a PS3 connected to my Time Capsule (bought in May).
    -G4 is connected by Ethernet
    -PS3 and iPhone wirelessly
I usually put my G4 to sleep, and wake it, and everything's fine.
Twice now, the power has gone out, and when it comes back, the Time Capsule is green, and the PS3 and iPhone can see it. I boot the G4, and it cannot see it. The G4 also shows a date in 1969 (does that indicate other issues?).
I have tried the following both times -
Resetting the Time Capsule with the pin - does not work
Unplugging and resetting the time capsule with pin - does not work
Rebooting the computer and clearing out the PRAM - does not work
Changing the date to after 2001 on the clock, - no help
Of course, now that I've reset the time capsule, I can't configure it again and have lost the wireless connection.
Last time I eventually got it to work - but it seemed random as to how. I'm frustrated, and I would like any advice possible. I hope it's the computer and not the Time Capsule. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

    Now I'm getting really annoyed.
Went to see the mac genius today at the Apple store. Saw it wirelessly no problem.
Saw it via Ethernet no problem. When I got him to check that there was a file on the hard drive he did it wirelessly though.
Told me Time Capsule was fine (and I believe him). Told me to take it home, create a second ethernet connection, and trash preferences for "System Configuration" if necessary. Did all that, booted, found the Time Capsule no problem.
Thought my problem was solved, but was it?
Turned off the computer, turned it on a few hours later - will not see Time Capsule, Airport will not recognize it AGAIN. Tried trashing preferences and rebooting - it doesn't work.
I'm able to connect the ethernet cable directly to the DSL modem and use PPPOE, it's fine.
I don't get it. What else can I do?

It just means some spammer is using your email address as the sender address for their spam. This is very easy to do - anyone can do it simply by changing the From email address in their email program. It does not mean your account was hacked or you have a virus (there are no current Mac viruses on the loose anyway, nor has there been for years).
There's nothing you can do about it. It can happen to anyone and the spammers will move on to using someone else's email address before long.

  • My Canon MF4100 works connected direct to iMac, but not through Time Capsule

Hello, I cant seem to get my canon laser printer to work when connected to the time capsule.  It works fine when connected directly to the Mac.  I have downloaded the most recent drivers from the Canon website.  I have tried almost every solution I can find: deleted all printers, reinstalled, installed connected directly to the Mac then try to add through time capsule, restarted time capsule, reset time capsule, etc and nothing seems to work.
I also have a PC connected to the time capsule as well and the printer is not visible to add on the PC but I believe once I can get it to work on the Mac the PC will work.  I am assuming I have a printer that is not compatible but it works perfectly well and dont want to spend another 300 on a printer.  Very frustrated please help.  Thanks!

You need to install Bonjour Print Services on the PC to make it work.
The MF4100 might not be TC compatible. You might be able to use a powered USB hub with the TC, or use a WiFi print server (these can be found quite cheaply).

  • How to restore my imac from a time capsule

My iMac had its OSX 10.9.1 Mavericks fully deleted and reinstalled in the Aple Store in Haarlem Netherlands yesterday.
Seen severe corruption problems of my KeyChain log-in codes.
Everything restored from iCloud was fully OK such as Contacts, Calendar, Mail, Notes.
But I lost all my iTunes data and iPhoto data, MS Ofiice data such as Word, Excel, etc.
My iMac however was connected through WiFi to a Time Capsule but I really do not know if the Time Capsule was ever set to ON under System Preferences. Or was it simply always set to OFF on my iMac.? .......
Question 1 : How can I find out directly on my Time Capsule if a separate Volume was ever made for this iMac ? And how can I restore that volume - if I find it back - to my iMac ?.
Time Capsule Program on my restored iMac seems to be fully empty. Last date is yesterday and nothing before.
Question 2 : When I connect my iMac directly through Ethernet cable to my Time Capsule I do not know how to find and retrieve (restore)  the speciic volume for my iMac.
Question 3 : how to delete the very old volumes directly on the Time Capsule which are not in use any more since years. ?
Question 4 : Any other suggetions for how to restore iPhoto and iTunes ? From iPhone, from iPod ? Let's not discuss Photostram here now.....
Thanks Apple Store - I seem to have a serious problem

Mavericks does nasty things to the Time Machine backups..
It tends to overwrite everything or certainly to hide it.
If the TM was not turned on, then it could not backup.
Let me recommend you spend the time reading the brilliant stuff Pondini wrote ..
He has specific info about restoring iphoto.
    See here.. http://pondini.org/TM/15.html
But read all the Questions, 14-17 so you understand how TM works..
The instructions for deleting old backups is Q12.
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
But don't delete anything as you might at least get partial recovery from those files.
For a full restore or migration see this page.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html
It includes setup and migration for OS up to Mountain Lion.
The guy who wrote all this info died before he had a chance to update it to Mavericks.. sadly.. he did a great service to the community.
Conclusion .. do not send stuff to Apple for repair before you make a disk image backup. Never trust Time Machine to do whole computer restores.. and Mavericks is a mess.
