IMac not sleeping

Over the last week I noticed that my iMac was not going to sleep or even would wake up from sleep even after being forced to sleep. Today I logged into the console and saw this:
Oct 31 11:01:56 barnes-fichters-computer-4 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.app4mac.CheckUpAgent[2331]): posix_spawn("/Applications/CheckUp.app/Contents/MacOS/CheckUpAgent", ...): No such file or directory
Oct 31 11:01:56 barnes-fichters-computer-4 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.app4mac.CheckUpAgent[2331]): Exited with exit code: 1
Oct 31 11:01:56 barnes-fichters-computer-4 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.app4mac.CheckUpAgent): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
This message repeats itself over and over again... how do I disable the checkupagent from trying to start? I do not have checkup installed on my drive.
Regards,
Charlie

Hi Charlie
For the sleep/wake problem reset your iMac's SMC as instructed in the first article and then restart holding the (Command-Option-P-R) keys to reset the PRAM, the second article.

CheckUp or something carrying CheckUpAgent got installed on your iMac and there are several way to remove the Library/LaunchDaemons/com.app4mac.CheckUpAgent.plist.

  • G4 Snowdrop iMac not sleeping

Can anyone tell me why, a fully updated, G4 snowdrop iMac will not sleep?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you checked your System Preferences/Energy/Sleep. Make sure the sliders aren't all the way over to the right where it says: Never.
If that doens't do the job, try here and make sure you have all your software and firmware updates too.

  • IMac not sleeping after upgrading to Lion

    Hi
I installed Lion last week and have noticed that my iMac does not go to sleep following the upgrade.  The screen shuts off, but the computer is still running as Mail and other applications are still active.  I have read some of the solutions that people found in earlier posts with the same issue, but they are not applicable to my situation.  I do not have Internet Sharing active nor have I ever tried using Console.
Has anyone had success solving this issue?  Is it only a quad core iMac issue as the laptop situation seems to be able to be solved?  Or do I need to contact Apple and start a case?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Seth

Thank you!  For whatever reason, resetting the PRAM did work and solved the problem as now my iMac goes to sleep properly.  Sorry for the delay in responding, but I wanted to test it for 2 days to make sure.
    Thanks again!!

  • UPS and our iMac // Will not allow iMac to sleep.

    Hello,
We have a Cyberpower UPS (CP685AVR) for our 20" iMac 2.66Ghz (last gen)and it works great. It has a USB interface to communicate with the iMac's power manager, and tells me how much juice is left, how the cells are doing, etc.
The only problem is the UPS will not allow the iMac to sleep; if I try to manually put it to sleep, it will wake again in 10-15sec. If I disconnect the UPS, the iMac works just fine. There are no third-party drivers, either. Cyberpower relies on Apple's built-in UPS support. I've been leaving the USB cable unplugged but would like like to use it if possible.
Has anyone had an issue like this, and what has been your experience? Thanks.

I won't buy Cyberpower anymore since I had one burn up on me so I have not had any experience with their newer models. I have 2 APC's and they work fine with the built in Energy Saver settings.
Are you connecting the USB directly to the back? I'm not sure if it will help but you might try resetting the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543?viewlocale=en_US

  • My iMac running lion will not sleep if an external HDD is connected.

My Imac will not sleep if the external HDD is connected. This just began to occur. If I unplug the drive it goes to sleep. This doesn't happen with any oter USB pereferals.
    Thanks in advance.

  • IMac G5 Sleep/Restart/Shut Down Not Responding - 10.4.11

    I have a 20" G5 PPC iMac running 10.4.11 with 2.5 GB RAM.
I recently restarted the machine after it had been shut down over a long weekend.
Everything booted up and worked as usual until I tried to load iPhoto, which froze with the spinning wheel. I wasn't able to force it to quit, so shut down the machine. Restarted, iPhoto loaded, everything seemed as normal.
However, by habit I usually select Sleep from the Apple menu when I'm leaving the machine for a while - now Sleep does not work via the Apple menu (it works as normal when left as per the time set in the Energy Saver settings). I noticed that after I tried to make the machine sleep I was also unable to use the scroll functions in Firefox - unsure if this is connected.
The Restart and Shut Down and other commands from the Apple menu also do not work, if they are selected after Sleep has been selected from the Apple menu and the machine has not consequently been manually shut down (i.e. via the button on the back).
I've shut down and restarted several times to no effect and and have run Disk Utility, which found nothing to be repaired.
Now If I start up and then select Sleep from the Apple menu without first launching any other programs, the spinning wheel appears and I'm unable to click on or select anything on the desktop or from the Apple or Finder menus. The only way out is to manually switch off.
Can anyone suggest what may be wrong and how to go about fixing it?
    Thanks in advance.

I've tried playing around with the Energy Saver settings in System Preferences - any attempt at changes or restoring defaults gives the spinning wheel and an application not responding message.
Shut Down and Restart now appear to work from the Apple menu, but the machine will now not sleep at all (even if left until it should do so according to the Energy Saver settings).
    Any ideas?

  • IMac Suddenly will not Sleep

I have an iMac with i5 quad core purchased in Feb 2011 running OSX 10.7.3 that has suddenly stopped going into sleep mode. This is a recent development, it worked fine before. I can manually put it into sleep mode and it stays asleep until woken. I have repaired permissions, ran Onyx, booted in safe mode, turned off WiFi, desconnected all preferials, but nothing fixes the problem. System log doesn't seem to give any clues but I am not sure what I am looking for. Does anyone know if this is a problem related to the most recent OSX update? Does anyone have any additional suggestions on how I might track down and solve the problem? TIA

It was also the same problem for me. Finally simply have removed the Printer from the Print & Scan properties and did reinstall it. The printer was in orange and was marked as used. I did remember having print something few days before while the printer was not open.
I think this is the main problem most of people are experiencing when the computer do not sleep. I've read another tread about this and it solve the problem for most of the commenters.
    So fixed.

  • Brand new 27" iMac will not sleep

I have a brand new iMac 27" and it will not sleep.  It just turns itself back on again.
I have the same hardware peripherals as I did on my 20" iMac.
I tried the energy settings, shutting off the wireless mouse, and I still can't get it to sleep.
I have read I can shut down "processes" but I'm afraid to as I don't know which ones to shut down and I don't want to mess up the system.
    27" iMac
Processor:  3.4 GHz Intel Quad Core i7
    Memory:  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics:  AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB
    1 TB HD
    Lion 10.7.1
EDIT:  I just tried to make it sleep by using a schedule and it worked.  It stayed asleep.  So what do you think?
    Anyone?
I would really appreciate any help with this.
    Thanks

Try holding down command-option-P-R at boot time. Let it chime. Keep holding the keys down until it chimes again, and then release them, and see if it boots OK.
If that doesn't work, then power it off again, unplug it from the wall, wait 30 seconds, plug it in and try.
If that doesn't work, then reboot it, hold down command-R at boot, and try to get to the recovery partition. If you do, launch Disk Utility and try and verify the disk.

  • IMac will not sleep!

I have no idea why it's doing this. I just completed a fairly recent reformat and reinstall (two months ago). The iMac will not go to sleep by itself. I have it set to 30 mins and nothing. The screen shuts off when it's supposed to , but that's it.
I have two admin accounts and both are set the same in the energy settings. It does this even if no apps are running. It used to go to sleep just fine.
    Any troubleshooting I can do?
    Intel Core Duo iMac
    1GB Ram
    Using Airport

I am using my 17" intel iMac as a base station to send internet connection to iBook in another room. My iMac is connected to ADSL modem by ethernet. I have to manually put the machine to sleep; when the timed settings for sleep are reached, the screen will go black, but it is not sleeping; it is still transmitting the internet connection with the airport function. When I manually put it to sleep by clicking on the Apple icon, it stops transmitting the internet connection and actually goes to sleep.

  • Mavericks not sleeping on 2008 iMac

Since I installed Mavericks the day it came out, my 2008 iMac will not go into sleep automatically.  Changed the Sleep time in System Preferences, Zapped PRAM and PMU and still won't sleep unless I click sleep from the Apple menu.  Any ideas?

After an hour or so of trawling the net and forums have discovered in another thread that it was because I had "Internet Sharing" switched on, which I had enabled  several days ago.
I've switched it off and all is now fine.
Note that it says that computers connected to AC power will not sleep while Internet Sharing is enabled.
NOTE also that it does not sleep immediately  .  .  .  .  mine takes around 20 seconds to switch off all activity.

  • Imac not fully sleeping?

When I put my imac to sleep it seems to fully sleep just fine and the indicator light on the front goes on and off like it should. However, when I let it just fall to sleep by itself after not using it for about 15 minutes the monitor will go off but the status light stays on fully. Is my computer not sleeping properly when it puts itself to sleep? I also notice a whirring noise every so often when it puts itself to sleep but not when I put it to sleep manually. Many thanks.

You are references two different modes. Go to system preferences>energy saver. Under the sleep tab there are two options - put computer to sleep and put display to sleep - each with their own time setting. When you put the computer to sleep using the apple icon>sleep method you are doing the entire computer. When you let it fall asleep, like after 15 minutes (which is probably the amount of time set for the display to sleep), it is just the display turning off (sleeping).

Been waiting along time for this problem to be fixed. Unfortunately the update hasn't help at all and even made the situation worse. Now my airplay connection from iMac to stereo abruptly stops after about 10-15 min. so I have to go over and quit wifi, start it up and find my airport network. Not sure why it always has a problem with the apple airport network. My neighbor's pc network is always there.
