If you have a (white) Retail Snow Leopard Upgrade Disc, then you should be able to Repair your Macintosh HD as per > Mac OS X - Using Disk Utility to Repair a Disk
Follow the direction for Disk Repair, not repair permissions which should only be done using Disk Utility while running in OS X.
Unfortunately if repairing the Macintosh HD as described above doesn't work, then you will have to seek help from your local Apple Store or AASP.

What model iPad do you have? If it's an iPad 1, the battery may have expired and needs replacement.

  • After trying to upgrade, Apple TV will no longer respond. Tried reset and unplug from power...no results

After allowing Apple TV to upgrade, it never finished and became unresponsive. We have tried several reset methods including remote reset, unplug from power and even killing power to wifi and tv too but nothing has worked. Any other thoughts???

Should have added: This used to work fine. All the time. Stopped exactly when ios 6 dropped.

  • When I unplug from power?

When I unplug from power source my iPhone dies even though charge is at 100%. Why? This is the first time it has happened.

Then it is likely the battery unless charger is faulty
Have you tried a different charger and cable

  • HT5622 I would like to keep iCloud but I cannot complete my ID questions because being far from home for a month I do not know my account number with

I would like to keep ecloud but when they ask me my account number I cannot answer being away from home for a month. Do I really need to give account number? Can I give it later when I go back home?

iCloud does not have an account number - it's identified by the Apple ID. Where are you being asked for this? Have you received an email telling you that your account will be suspended if you don't click a link and enter some personal information? If so DO NOT follow the link and DO NOT enter any information - it's a scam designed to get information that can be used to steal from you. Apple does not threaten to close down your account.
If you've had such an email, look closely at the 'From' address - if it's not from apple.com it's a fake - often these emails are from 'aple.com' or 'appple.com' or some domain with 'apple' as a sub-domain. If you hover over the link (don't click it) you are likely to see that the domain is not apple at all.
If you are in doubt, copy the email and post it here but remove your own address.

Look in Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and see if you have any runaway processes using a lot of %CPU.
I would also strongly recommend running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode. If it reports errors you can Google them or post them here.

Hello, I have MacBook Pro and whenever I start Aperature 3 it stays on for about 5 minutes then it shuts down with an error of shutting down unexpected... anything??
Also does anyone know how to take something from one picture and add it to another in aperature?
    Thank you!!!

I had the exact same problem. Here is what an Apple Support person told me to do - and it worked like a charm!
Go to your APPLICATIONS Folder. Find a folder within that folder called TOOLBARS. Remove the ENTIRE folder. Once you remove that folder, your Aperture should work perfectly.
There is something in that folder that you don't need that messes with Aperture. Try it. Mine worked perfectly!

  • IPod Mini refuses to sleep when unplugged from power

Hello, I have a problem with the Sleep function in my Mini. The whole of the context is as follows:
After a period of inactivity (two weeks approx.) I wanted to use my Mini. However, after rousing it from sleep, it immediately froze. When it did respond, any input from the wheel, the buttons or the Hold switch would take up to a minute to be registered on the display. Resetting (toggle Hold, press and hold "Menu" + "Select") did nothing to solve the issue, either plugged or unplugged from the PC or the power adapter. Thinking this might be a one-in-a-million bug, I went and used the iPod Updater to restore it to factory settings and update to the latest firmware (1.6, if I recall correctly.)
That did the trick as far as the random freezes went, and the iPod hasn't frozen since. However, it has completely lost the ability to sleep unless I enable the Sleep Timer. Whether this is a result of the bug which caused the freezes, or a bug from the update, I don't know. I have tried holding the Play/Pause button, selecting the "Sleep" option from the main menu, and performing soft-resets on a variety of situations (connected to the PC, connected but ejected, connected to the adapter, disconnected...) and the device won't go into sleep mode.
Ironically, the Sleep function DOES work perfectly when it's plugged into the PC and charging the battery. Both the Play/Pause method and the menu option respond correctly. Of course, being able to sleep when it's already charging doesn't help much.
Obviously, I've taken care that the Hold switch is toggled to the "off" position, and I have reset the poor mini so many times I'm anxious about causing it damage. As it is, my only option is to set the Sleep Timer to 15 minutes and simply interact with the iPod until I'm ready to let it turn itself off.
Any help would be appreciated. While I wouldn't run out of battery charge (or so I hope) during the day's use, it's still a worrisome bug, and it essentially keeps the iPod anchored to a power source every eight hours, even if I don't use it.

To elaborate more on what Rob said. Since the iPod is a hard drive based device(similar to your computer) the disc inside spins and there is a needle to read the data.
What you are suggusting would be like yanking the power cord out of your computer in mid install of something, the chance of data lose is there and if happened enough bad sectors can arise. Should you do that? No, Would you do it? In most cases not.
A bad sector would in most causes make the ipod freeze when accessing it or make it fail its disk check and requiring replacement.

  • IMac G5 starts up by itself from sleep mode

    Hi Guys,
My iMAC G5 suddenly decided to start up by itself from sleep mode. I put it back to sleep and about 1-2 hrs it starts up again. I bought in 10/04. My local Apple dealer wants $75.00 just to look at it and being a 72 yr old senior, it's a bit stiff.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    chris

OK, if you are sure it is not actually shutting down and restarting (it will do this if you have a defective power supply and "restart automatically after a power failure" enabled in the Energy saver system preferences options), and the problem still occurs with all non Apple USB devices disconnected, then it is probably either a network or a software issue.
Again in the "Energy Saver" Options make sure that "wake for ethernet network administrator access' is turned off.
Now think about any software that may undertake any form of time scheduled activity. Elgato's EyeTV is one example that has sometimes been implicated in this behaviour, but many other things like virus checkers and drive utilities can also be involved. THese sorts of things usually involve components which run in the background even when the primary application itself has been shut down.
You can often get an idea by seeing what is running in the background using "Activity Monitor". Checking your "startup items" is a good idea too in case a software installation has put something there without telling you.
Sometimes these sorts of issues can also involve a computer which is not actually going fully to sleep for some reason. In such cases the screen sleeps but the power light on the computer doesn't start "pulsing" as it should if the computer is snoozing properly .
    Cheers

  • MIFI 3G has to be unplugged from power and plugged back in regularly

I have had my MIFI 3G version, for a few years now.  I really don't have any complaints with it and have had great internet experience for the entire service.  HOWEVER, I have noticed in the last 6 months (maybe more?) that I have had to unplug the power from the card and then plug back in, to reset it.  It loses connection or goes "stale" every other day or something close (I haven't kept track, but it's regularly).
Is this a setting? Or if too many devices try to connect at one time, could that "kill it" where it needs reset?

Thanks for the confirmation Mike.  I figured as much but wanted to make sure there wasn't some setting I didn't know about.
So the setting for "activation" is kinda the same as unplugging and plugging back in the power source?
I can appreciate this cycling need, but would be nice if there was another way for it to "wake" such as a device trying to access it, or etc.

  • C655 freezes when unplugged from power supply

I just got my Satellite C655 back from having something fixed from the store I got it from. When I turned it on this morning I noticed the battery was around 59% so I plugged in my power supply - like I often do anyway so I don't run down my battery when i'm at home. After a few hours of regular use, I was about to turn off my computer, so I unplugged my power supply. However, my laptop froze when I unplugged. It stayed frozen for 20 minutes until I had to do a hard reboot by pressing the power button.
What caused this? I asked the store and they said they did nothing with the power, but I recall this happening before when I got it back from them.

It's likely that your iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.  You can have your iPod serviced by Apple or a 3rd party repair company ( a little bit cheaper).

  • Z1 shuts down when unplugging from power

    Dear Sony-Members,
I have bought my Z1 some days ago. Every morning I wondered why my phone is shut down. Today I noticed why. I played around with my wallpaper (so not much CPU used) and then unplugged it from power. Immediatly it shuts down. Everything else works fine.
This just happens when it was a long time connected to the power (8 hours over night) - so every morning.
    Some details:
    Root: no
    Android: 4.3
    Build: 14.2.A.1.136
    Device: C6903
Updates: the last available in my country installed
    Can anyone help me?
    Much thanks in advance!

  • Powerbook won't wake from sleep when unplugged from power

    hi everyone,
    i have a 15" 1ghz titanium powerbook, running 10.4.6.
recently (maybe since 10.4.6?) i haven't been able to wake the machine from sleep when i unplug it from powering up in sleep mode, to open it up someplace else to run it on batteries for a little while. i always have to do a hard-reboot (holding down the startup button for several seconds). this usually destroys my dock and other preferences when i'm "back in".
does anyone know what might be causing this? it seems to be a recent development. it's unpleasant, because i frequently have the powerbook charge itself while asleep, and then i want to unplug it and quickly do something in another room running it on batteries. afaik sleeping and awakening works fine as long as i don't plug/unplug the power cable before waking it up.
any hints would be greatly appreciated...thank you!

    PowerBook G4 15 1 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi A.L.,
I have a Cinema Display which I often use on the back of my Ti. I know the laptop will not wake if there is no power and it has an external DVI display attached.
Perhaps your computer thinks it has some monitor attached - perhaps checking the DVI port for damage would be worth it?

  • X220 uncontrollably switches to 50Hz refresh rate upon unplug from power source

    Hello,
I'd like to reiterate that I LOVE my x220 apart from the few issues I have with it.  Having said that, I am having the (seemingly) ubiquitous problem where the laptop constantly switches to 50Hz when unplugged from a power source.  I have tried reinstalling the Power Manager and Power Manager driver, and all of my system software is up to date.
Just to be certain, is everyone else experiencing this issue as well?  I know T420s owners recently reported it and it was subsequently forwarded to engineering.  As long as a fix is in the works I am happy. :-)

    Solved!

    Hey erik,
I really do appreciate your input.  That's a good idea, though honestly I don't know if I will bother with all of that now. :-)  Perhaps instead if I get a moment in the near future I may try wiping out all Intel graphics drivers entirely from the system manually and then reinstalling.
Having said all of that, on a somewhat unrelated note, I'm getting 4,900+ in 3DMark06, which is shocking!  After experiencing the trouble with the unplug/replug refresh rate switch, I tried a wide variety of solutions including using the 2361 graphics drivers from Intel's site.  This plus my high-speed fan settings at anything over 60C probably helped contribute to the score I guess.
But back to the topic... is anyone else experiencing these same refresh rate switching issues?
