My spotlight has been indexing for hours and still no end in sight. Never did this before. What is happening?

System Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy - try adding your hard drive there to see if it will stop. If it does, remove the hard drive and see if it will re-index normally.

I have got the above error today while monitoring process chains. i.e error in create index and showing as 'Deleting/reconstructing indexes for InfoCube 0PUR_C04 is not permitted ' i will get this error every week and i'll repeat this ,but it is not working this time and is giving error
Last week also i've faced the same problem and i've gone for manual creation and even that too did'nt work,and i m facing same problem this week as these r weekely loads
Could any one tell me what the problem is..? as i have told u last week i have checked the create index and still it is in checked mode..Is this the problem?

Yes i have checked create index (batch) in performance tab last week, bcos i've faced same problem last week ,so i thought of creating the index again and that did'nt work. And i went for repair indexes(immediately) and that too did'nt work ,the job got cancelled in SM 37
And even this week(7/8/2007) also i have faced the same problem and the check button is still there for create index(batch), i have'nt checked any thing apart from this. Even i've checked in SM12 for lock entries but there r no any.
As i have mentioned chain is scheduled weekely.
how do i proceed? Step by step would be appreciated

Comparion Index for SPL and Partner - Message log full

Hi Guys
Was recently going through the forums and found a lot on this error 'Message number 999999 reached. Log is full'
But i was not able to found one on the Comparsion terms, i am trying to create the Index for SPL and Business Partners and it stops midway because of this.
Can you advise on the below.
1) Can this number be extended?
2) Anyway to delete logs - then what is the Object and Subobject
3) How do you guys build the Comparison index, since this must be a common error
Would be very appreciative if the experts can provide an pointers on this.

Dear Carl,
There are a number of options that can solve this issue.
1.) Obsolete applogs can be deleted using TA SLG2. Please
    try this possibility.
2.) Setup of control profiles
    Check the definition of control profiles. In field Log Backup you
    have two choices:
    - Save current log and delete old log
    - Save current log and retain old log
    to avoid an overflow I recommend to use the or option.
    Path: SAP GTS Customizing   > General settings   > Define control
    profile for logging
3.) It is not advisable to run search term generation for a high number of
    BP's at one go. Please restrict the selection further.
    This is true both for search terms generation and B1,C1 scenario.
    The ideal number of BP is 30-40K. Please create
    multiple jobs and run these jobs serially. This will not only
    prevent memory problems, but also improve overall performance.

Spotlight is indexing for ages!

Hi there!
I have a MacBook Pro, EY2011, and I recently installed a fresh copy of Mountain Lion, as my old copy was pretty much junked up. Now, the problem is that Spotlight has been rumbling around for ages, and I can only look for existing indexed files. No new files at all. The fans just go up and down and up and down. Left it on last night. Worst sleep. Ever.
Now, it says 6 days remaining. I am not very happy, as I need my laptop for school, and I bought a MacBook not only because they look good, but also because they seemed quiet and have solid performance. And the thing with the quiet, well in a classroom, with 20 people, and everybody being quiet, theres my hurricane, I mean laptop, going away at 5000 to 6200 rpm.
Now, all I am getting is constant revving up of the fans thanks to spotlight, the Spotlight Indexing Process, 'mds', and a CPU where 60 percent of the performance goes to a 'dead' spotlight.
Now, I'm wondering, is there anyway to fix this. I have tried using this command sudo rm -rf /.Spotlight-V100/*, however, it has changed nothing.
PLEASE HELP!

Spotlight looses index for external drives

Hello
why is that I have to re index my external drives all the time. it seems to me spotlight can not keep the index, when ever i try search in my external hard-drive spotlight finds nothing even so i can see files with the search name right in front of me. I have to go to preference than add the hard drive at the no search column and delete out if it then spotlight starts the indexing again which takes 2+hours and slows things down. it is good for a while and bam it is gone again and have to do all the steps over again any idea

the spotlight index IS stored on the drive itself so if you want to reindex it using a different computer, go for it. just make sure to use the same OS computer. DO NOT reindex it using a tiger computer.

An index is a copy of a database table that is reduced to certain fields. This copy is always in sorted form. Sorting provides faster access to the data records of the table, for example, when using a binary search. A table has a primary index and a secondary index. The primary index consists of the key fields of the table and is automatically created in the database along with the table. You can also create further indexes on a table in the Java Dictionary. These are called secondary indexes. This is necessary if the table is frequently accessed in a way that does not take advantage of the primary index. Different indexes for the same table are distinguished from one another by a separate index name. The index name must be unique. Whether or not an index is used to access a particular table, is decided by the database system optimizer. This means that an index might improve performance only with certain database systems. You specify if the index should be used on certain database systems in the index definition. Indexes for a table are created when the table is created (provided that the table is not excluded for the database system in the index definition). If the index fields represent the primary keys of the table, that is, if they already uniquely identify each record of the table, the index is referred to as an unique index.
they are created on DSO and cube for the performance purpose ..and reports created on them wil be also more efficent ..

Imac 27" Intel Core 7 CPU. Screen goes black and will not respond except with a push of power button. Second monitor connected via displayport continues to display fine. Apply Store did full hardware scan and all is fine. Did clean wipe from Mavrick back

Apply Store did full hardware diagnostic and all is fine. Did clean wipe from Mavrick back to Mountain Lion but problem remains. Apple Store can do no more.

I did some more digging, it appears to be a backlight problem only. I can see the screen very dimly if I use a bright flashlight in a very dark room. It also seems to run ok if the brightness is turned down a LOT.
So I'm thinking this is a LED driver board issue or the display itself. I'll open it up and check the connection between the two and see if I can get any more clues. At least I can use it somewhat now by dimming the display significantly...

What is the difference in createdelete indexes for infocube and DTP ?

Can anyone tell me what is the difference in create\delete index process for infocube and create\delete index for DTP or Infopackage? If i add into a chain an Infopackage then DTP then Delete request processes, system generates for all of them delete\create index processes by default. Is that nesesary leave them all or is that enough to leave only the ones for infocube?

Hi Tigr,
This delete/create index step is to make the load faster. This can be done on a infocube. Before loading data to infocube it is suggested by SAP to delete index and after loading again create the index.
If you want to execute these steps through process chain, there are process types for delete/create index. It is related to infocube not to any DTP/Infopackage. Before loading to the cube add one DROPINDEX step (deleting) in the chain. After completion of loading add one INDEXING step (creating) in the chain.

Can I credit an index in Pages and if not is there a software I can open my pages document in that will allow me to create an index?

I have credit a book in Pages. I would now like to create an index for the book. I cannot see a way to do this. If it cannot be done, is there a program through which I could open this Pages document and then create an index?

The Table of Contents will list particular paragraph styles, so create an "Index" style if need be and use that or anything else that works to style the text that you want to Index.
Then export the T.O.C. as text and reimport it to where you want it in the original file, getting rid of the temporary T.O.C.
The limitation is that the T.O.C. grabs entire paragraphs, so for practical purposes you will have to index only short heads, or do some manual stripping back to polish up the Index. Either way it is a start.

Why is spotlight search on my iPhone and iPad not find any apps?

Spotlight search has been unable to find applications on my iPhone and iPad (6 and Air, both running 8.1.2) since December. I try to search for a banking app, for example, and it suggests "It came upon a midnight clear" from my iTunes library. If I search for iPages, spotlight suggests a nice opera. or an email from a time-sharing promotional email. What is going on? I thought this might have been me, but it is clear now this is a bug and is extremely annoying. It would be really helpful if someone would fix this. I have tried all the obvious work-arounds, which might (or might not) make the problem disappear for a while, it always comes back.

Perhaps you are spelling the name of the apps wrong. Try pages or the name of your banking app.
