Imac OS -iphone-ipad sync

hello there
i have an 24" APPLE IMAC 8.1, MB398XX/A, 3.06 GHZ, INTEL CORE 2 DUO, 4GB, (EARLY 2008).
I dont have any OS on it yet.
I wanna ask what OS should i get and in addition i wanna make sure that it syncs with my iphone 6 and ipad mini.
Thank you

Your imac will run the latest OS X if you choose to do so. It would be wise to upgrade your ram to 6gb if you do that. You will first need to install 10.6.8 in order to upgrade any further http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Snow Leopard 10.6.8 is a wise choice for that machine but I'm not sure that Apple is supporting it with security updates anymore.

  • New mac, iTunes and iPhone ipad sync

I have an iphone which i used to sync with my old imac, i have recently bought a macbook pro and it seems there is no way to sync my iphone with my new computer without deleting everything on the phone.
Also there is no way to put audiobooks on my ipad which is synced with my new mac book without deleting all music and movies. this makes absolutely no sesnse to me what so ever
I click sync audio books - Are you sure you want to sync audiobooks? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPad “iPad” will be removed.

Ipad and iphone will sync with one aqnd only one comptuer at a time.  Syncing to a new computer will indeed erase the contents from the device.
Just copy the entire itunes folder form the old comptuer to the new one.

  • IPhone / iPad syncing issues.

    What I'm using:
    iPhone 4S 32GB - iOS 6
    iPad 3rd Gen 16GB - iOS 6
    MacBook Pro 2011 i7 (OS 10.8.2)  --- iTunes 10.7
When i plug either the iPhone or the iPad in to my computer to sync them both, the iPad/iPhone will vibrate off and on, thinking its plugged in, then not plugged in, then plugged in etc.. I thought it would be a connection, but it definatley isn't as I've checked them over.
Once its finally settled down, it'll start syncing. It's syncing about 2gb of music. About halfway through the sync, it'll stop, and say the sync couldn't be finished because the iPhone has been unplugged.
Because of this, it seems to have jumbled all the music on my iOS devices, and will not sync again. So after restoring both devices, and trying to sync my entire music library back onto my devices (about 20gb of music), the problem isn't resolved. The music on the devices is not in alphbetical order etc.
Not sure what the problem is, hope someone can help!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • Bt hub 3, itunes, iphone, ipad syncing problems - not seen

Im using the new infinity BT hub 3 and there are now issues with syncing the iphone, ipad and itunes.  iTunes does not see them as devices consistantly and when it does (looking for "device"), it says it is not available to sync (not found on the network) and promply they disappear from the upper right hand corner.  BT say it's an itunes issue.
I have tried changing from WPA to WEP but this doesn't work, nor does plugging the computer into the ethernet.
The devices show as being on the network by the router, but are not available to sync in itunes
What do we think people? Any ideas to fix this?

As a fallback you could try using the usb cable rather than wifi.
However to you main problem with the wifi. I to have BT infinity and not only was I having issues with not seeing the devices but also a slow speed of streaming to Apple TV3.
Turns out my issue was interference on the wifi from other wifi networks on the same channel.
Mountain Lion has a new wifi utility details here
    http://9to5mac.com/2012/07/31/use-mountain-lions-new-wi-fi-scan-utility-to-optim ize-your-home-wireless-network/
Found thayt there seemed to be 3 or 4 houses on channel 6, Changed mine to channel 11, via the BT hub admin page. When everyting settled down again plugged in my devices via USB made sure they were wifi sync enabled and now all works as it should.
If you do not run mountain lion then look for istumbler on google, does the same job and its free

  • Iphone/Ipad Syncing Problems

When I plug my iphone into the computer I keep getting the following message."Itunes was unable to load provider data from sync services. Reconnect or try again later." Can anyone tell me what this means and how to correct it?

I have done this but the probelm persists. The issue only seems to be with my Iphone 4 as my ipad syncs fine.
This article mentioned outlook which I don't use and unplugging all my USb devices. I can't do that as all my itunes data is on a portable HD connected to the computer via USB.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Iphone/ipad sync problems

We have all of our devices set to 'Manually manage music and videos'. M daughter's iPhone 5s is obviously very new but suffers from the same issue. We are running iTunes 11.1.1.11 on Windows 7. iTunes ignores the Manually manage setting. It syncs items back to our devices that we deleted from it last time we hooked it up. It even trys to sync e-mail (keeps popping up the login box for my work e-mail in Outlook). None of the individual checkboxes on the other tabs are checked either (Music, Movies, TV Shows). I just plugged the iPad in and it added back in a movie I deleted so I could update the iPad to iOS 7. My daughter is very frustrated because she will delete music and it will add it back the very next time she connects. This is obviously something with iTunes on our PC but we are baffled as to why iTunes is ignoring settings.

Well, after hours of troubleshooting, I think I figured out the problem.
    First, the fix:
Select all images in the "offending" album.
While holding down the "Option" key, click right and select "Generate Previews".
    Then re-sync, and it works.
My theory on why this works:
I suspect there was no problem with the Aperture Library. I believe the problem was with the iTunes Optimized Image Cache - you know, when iTunes says "Optimizing xx of yy images for iPad". That cache, I believe, is only updated when there is a change to the image. I'm also guessing that deleting the image from the device (iPad or iPhone) does not delete the image from the cache, so if you then re-add it to the device, it pulls it from the cache. So the only way to re-generate the cached image is to make a change to the image. This can be accomplished by making additional adjustments to the image. But of course, no one wants to do that. So instead, another way to update the timestamp on the image is to regenerate the preview. When iTunes sees the update to the timestamp, it goes ahead and runs its "Optimizing..." task, recreating the cached image that gets dumped onto the iPad or iPhone.
So, I believe this is actually a bug in iTunes.

  • IPhone & iPad sync failure with usbmuxd issues

I've lost all wired connectivity between iPad and iPhone to the paired desktop (never managed to get the wifi sync working) despite using previously working connection via hub and then direct USB cable connection. I have checked that the devices appear within device tree in System Information so it's not likely to be a hardware fault.
iOS devices are running latest 5.0.1 software
Desktop has 10.7.2 running latest iTunes 10.5.1
    All software updated
(The same machine has some mixture of software - including Xcode 4.0, 4.1 - so there could be some tricky thing which has occurred at some point during an upgrade path.. - some pretty old drivers lurking.. and there have been a few silent machine crashes which don't yet have an explanation so I don't know if they are related - but there does seem to be a clear issue with recognition of the iDevices by iTunes - Perhaps there is a corrupted driver file?)
What is noticeable and seems new is that when I connect an idevice it starts to spew into the logfile:

Seems to me likely that it will be something to do with the daemon or some other machine configuration weirdness - some pointers as to what to do next would be good..
At the moment, when I get back from helping someone else with their IT!, I
am going to set Repair Disk Permissions going (could take a while)
am going to try to find the daemon and compare it with either a TimeMachine version or from a different machine..
any other thoughts? has this been seen anywhere else by someone?
    Cheers,
    Martin

    Steve,
Did you make any progress on this. I have the same situation.

  • Iphone/iPad sync

My pad and my phone were synced at one point. I had to reset my iphone 5 last week and since then they are no longer synced. By synced I mean if I had a conversation with another iphone from my phone it could be seen on my pad too. Can anyone help me out?

Do you mean a text conversation through iMessage?
To have them sync to both your iPhone and your iPad, iMessage has to be enabled in both of them with the same Apple ID.  and in both the Settings > iMessage > receive at  have to show the same email addresses and/or phone numbers.

  • Duplicate iPhoto events in iPhone/iPad sync

I'm getting duplicate iPhoto events showing up when I try to sync my iPhone and/or iPad. These events are not in duplicate in iPhoto itself. I have tried repairing the iPhoto database and it's file permissions. I have no idea why iTunes reads these events like so (see included screen shot). Any help would be appreciated; thanks in advance.

    Hi!
    I also have this problem.
    iTunes 10.2.2 (12)
    iPhoto 9.1.2 (605)
It seems that iTunes separates the pictures of an event, which was imported at different times.
    I left a message on:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • IPhone & iPad sync with new library

Okay, so I just received a brand new MacBook Pro. Sweet. I hooked my phone up to sync it. I got a message saying your phone is synced with another library, can't be synced with more than one library, etc. So I emailed iTunes, explained my situation, they said you can manually sync it from the iphone page in iTunes. I clicked the little check box, but the same message come up. I emailed them back, they said it was weird, and try apple discussions. So here is the problem. I have all my music on my new MacBook Pro, but my apps never transferred over from my old computer to my new one. If I delete all the content on my iPhone, then I lose all my apps. Same thing goes for my iPad. What can I do?

You don't have to move everything from the old computer, just the files inside the iTunes folder (iTunes Library or iTunes Music Library and the .xml version, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, iTunes Music, Mobile Applications, ipod Games, etc...)
If you didn't use Migration Assistant to move your data from the old computer to the new one, you may have to right click on each of the files and folder and choose "Get Info" and change the permissions to "Everyone" can "Read and Write" before you copy them to the new computer.
If 100% of your music and movie files and apps are already on the iPod, and you can't copy everything from the old Mac to new one, then you could try this:
    (1) In the new Mac make sure you are logged into the iTunes store and the computer is "Authorized" under the menu "Store > Authorize This Computer"
    (2) Use "File > Transfer Purchases from iPod" to get you purchased content,
    (3) You may need to find a free app online called "Senuti" to transfer non-purchased music like rips from CD's, but I don't know if this will import non-purchased movies. (Senuti is iTunes spelled backwards)
    (4) Then use "File > Library > Import Playlists and only import just the old "iTunes Library.xml file from the old computer into the new one. (if you want all your old playlists)
In my case I would need a 900Gb - 1Tb iPod to fit my entire library on one device, but it sounds like your library was small.

  • IPhone/iPad, sync mail

Could anyone tell me, where the sync mail goes, how I can find them and how I can stop the mail from syncing.. Thanks a lot.

since you had so many emails moved, more than likely your phone/ipad had them stored in the history and hard a difficult time moving so many emails when you refreshed correctly.

  • Installed OS X Mavericks, now cannot load photos page on ITunes during IPhone/Ipad Sync

Hi I downloaded and installed OS X Mavericks last week.
But now realised that I cannot load the photos page during ITunes backup for apple devices!
Have tried reinstalling OS X Mavericks.
Wasn't able to delete itunes, so only could reinstall it.
Couldn't seem to resolve this problem.
    Any tips?

Unfortunately without visually inspecting where everything is situated, it is difficult to say without putting you deeper in a hole. It is never a good idea to reinstall an older operating system on top of a new one.   Your best bet to rescue your photos is to use an operating system independent file search tool.    This tool may help, if you haven't overwritten the original files:
Download FindAnyFile v1.8.6 for older PowerPC Macs)
This program will search for files by their .jpg name and should be able to find old photos, if you know the number of the filename as it was in the Finder.
If you stored the files somewhere outside the main user, you may need help bringing over that user to your shared directory.
If you have overwritten the original files, only a data recovery tool would work.  I would bring it in to service, since you attempted something that generally is not recommended unless you know what you are doing.  Someone at a Mac usergroup could also attempt to help.  http://www.apple.com/usergroups/
