IMac OS re-installation

Hi there to ALL...
This is my first time ever to use a forum and hope it's going to be a good experience...
I have been trying to re-install Leopard OS on my iMac but never been able to succeed as it is taking hours and even sometimes I leave in the installation phase for 24hrs with (Installing) message but when I come back to it, iMac seems to be hanging without any further progress.
Could some one help please...

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Are you reinstalling Leopard because there were problems with your iMac ??
Can you eject the install disk?
If so... boot from the install disk to verify the startup disk for errors and repair if necessary.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% free disk space. Not enough disk space can cause directory corruption.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
What is Safe Mode
If you can't eject the disk, try booting while holding down the mouse, or try booting while holding down the Eject key ⏏

  • Imac mid-2007 installation disc

Is it possible to get another installation disc for my intel imac ?
I get one of the file is corrupted and i need to get it changed.
    Thank you .^^.

    HI,
*"I get one of the file is corrupted and i need to get it changed."*
What's wrong with this disk? If your iMac can't mount the disk or boot from it, try cleaning it.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

  • IMac stalls during installation

I have a 17" iMac G5 that just recently started stalling during installation. The computer acts as if it is loading up the OS, but takes forever - somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 minutes. It has in fact eventually made it to the desktop. However, once you restart, it's back to doing the same thing.
I tried starting up from the MAC OS CD by holding down the "C" key, and now the computer just sits, and the icon spins and it has my CD in there.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and what did you do about it? Also, how do I now eject the CD from the computer?

    1. What were you installing? Be very clear.
    2. Where did you get the OS X installer disk? Is it a retail version of 10.4?

  • Imac firmware for installation of mac os 9.1 - Please Help

We cannot get Mac OS 9.1 installed on our imac powerpc g3 333. When we try to install, we get a firmware not appropriate message. My OS Boot ROM is 3.0.f10 but I don't know if that is the same as the firmware version. Anyway, we downloaded firmware 1.2 but we could not find the application named "imac firmware updater" so all we did was to stuffit expand the bin that we downloaded, and then double clicked the expanded file, and all that happened was a quick window popped up and said "verifying" and then nothing happened. We still cannot install 9.1 because of the same firmware error. Are we required to do that trick with the paperclip pushing the reset button by the usb port? Or is there some other action we need to take? The firmware error message says that the firmware I need is in the "CD extras" folder on the install CD, but there is no firmware there, nor is there any firmware updater program there. Pretty sad aint it? Happy holidays from Ron and Diane
imac g3 333   Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

    Hi, dheconsl -
...a quick window popped up and said "verifying" and then nothing happened.
What should have happened after the verifying screen disappeared was the appearance of a new icon along the right-hand side of the desktop, where drive icons are shown. This icon is of the mounted disk image. Open that disk image, and inside you'll find the installer for the firmware update.
It's a good idea to print out the instructions, contained in the readme file that accompanies the installer.

  • New imac & adobe cs5 installation

i just bought my first imac and adobe cs5 student along with it. installed it just fine and everything but when i went to the applications folder on the dock, the install put all the cs5 folders in the applications folder. is that we're they're supposed to go or should i made the installation place the folders somewhere else? sorry i dont know much about the OS yet.
what i eventually want to do is place the icons for photoshop and illustrator on the dock too. i think all i do for that is drag them there after, and if, i can move the app folders.
    thanks in advance!

It installed correctly. Also I'd STRONGLY recommend you study these sites because you are new to OS X. Don't just gloss over them study them!

  • IMac G3 USB Installation

First off, I'm fairly new to Arch; and loving it. I'm having problems booting the Arch installer to my iMac G3. The optical drive is broken (half a cd broken inside of it). I've tried to dd the installation iso to my usb drive. I assumed it wouldn't work, but it happens. Any tips for an Arch newcomer?

  • After installing an update (on an iMac), can the installer (.dmg) be moved to the trash?

After installing an update (on an iMac of any sort), can the installer (.dmg) be moved to the trash?

If the update is an OS installer, you might want to consider moving it to a folder of an external backup drive for safe keeping. Why? Because Apple removes earlier OS versions when a new one is introduced; there are several threads here about not being able to download Mavericks.
Just a thought. I keep copies of all OS installers. That will come in handy shortly as I just purchased a refurb 2012 iMac because it can run/boot with Mountain Lion which I need for a couple of (important to me) software applications. I have a copy of an ML installer tucked away and ready to go.

  • Imac 5,2 installation disk stops

insallation disk stops during "preparing for installation" but when I put the cd in my macbook pro the cd opens up with the normal screen. Is it my dvd drive? Can I attach the new hard drive to my macbook pro and install on the new hdd from there, if so how?

I put the installation disk in the MBP only to see if is the cd that is the issue. Whn I put it in the imac5,2 the installation stops and I cant seem to even get to the disk utility screen
As I mentioned in my initial post, this will not work because the original media shipped with a Mac is specfic to that Mac. Therefore attempting to use the Installation Disk from an iMac on a MBP or vice versa will NOT WORK.

  • Does 2013 iMac come with installation disk

I bought second hand iMac from Ebay but got no installation disk.
    Should it have one?
    Came complete in original packaging.

If you require an fresh install of Mac OS X....Start up your mac while holding down CMD + R.
This will download the OS from Apple for free.
P.S it will only download the OS X version that came with your iMac. You can then upgrade it to Yosemite for free.

  • My iMac freezes after installation of Mavericks

My iMac set. with the new Mavericks has started freezing, or going into sleep mode, and will not wake up.  I have to hold the power button in for about ten seconds to force it to close down, wait a few seconds, the press power button again and it will boot normally.
It will sometimes just freeze the screen, and other times go to a blank screen.  Nothing will wake it up.
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

I have had consistent freezes after my MBP (15 in 2.4/2.2 GHz) goes to sleep since I installed Mavericks.  When it's frozen, the fan is going hard, but nothing will wake it up -- not mouse motion, key presses (including "force quit" chord), closing and opening lid, etc.  I have to force a shutdown with the power button, and restart it.
The only thing I've found to prevent the freeze is to prevent going to sleep.  There's nothing that I recognize as suspicious in the console log.  I've reinstalled Mavericks, I've fixed permissions, I've repaired the hard drive, I've removed plugins.  I don't know what else to try.  So I'm looking for suggestions, please!

  • IMac flat panel installation problem

I have been trying to upgrade from 10.2 to 10.4 but the machine fails to install off of the DVD. Additionally, we have had problems installing anything on this computer. I repaired all permissions and verified the disk. The installation process proceeds up to the step where you are asked to choose a destination disk. After a few seconds, a message pops up saying that installation has failed. Any ideas?
    Thanks

There may be some way to use the booted disk utility from the early OSX
installer disc #1 located beneath Installer in the menubar, to see if that can
help fix anything that may be stopping the existing system from accessing
the newer installer disc (later.) Do not use a later Disk Utility to fix a newer
one or an older one to attempt a fix on a newer system. They don't like it.
Some other user upgrade issues were noted in Mac user forums back when
Panther and then Tiger came on the scene; and some users could not get
their older Jaguar or some Panther systems to upgrade to Panther/Tiger
and of them, some were successful (archiving whole drive clone to external
Firewire hard disk drive as backup, first) in using Disk Utility from the new
OSX installer disc#1 to zero data and reformat the computer's internal HDD
and then it was able to accept the new OSX.
[And, still others, found they had RAM chips that were not
compatible with the newer OSX systems; and had to upgrade
more than just the OSX. Some also put in larger hard drives.]
Other users, were able to simply zap the PRAM and do a few other basic
things, and their machines were able to upgrade from 10.2.8 to 10.3.x
and a few without much issue, to 10.4.x. [I had some issues with an older
PowerMac tower trying to go from 10.2.8 to 10.3.2 and the retail installers
never could work. I finally decided on a different later Macintosh and then
when a neighbor's friend said he was looking for a PowerMac, I sold it...]

  • IMac G3 Tiger installation

So I have a grape iMac G3 400MHz that I got off ebay which is running 10.4.11 with all the latest firmware (4.1.9). I am upgrading the hard drive from the stock 10GB to an 80GB drive. The question is: on the new drive, do I have to install the painfully obsolete OS 9 before I install OS X 10.4? Some people say you don't have to, others say you have to.
    Thanks,

Since it's using version 4.1.9 of the firmware, Tiger can be installed without Mac OS 9, but you won't have a Classic environment without it.

  • IMac New Computer Installation

Transfer info from 2008 Imac to a new one?

Very simple if you have been backing up the old computer. Use a Time Machine backup or bootable clone backup. When you turn on the new iMac for the first time it will ask if you are migrating from another Mac, choose yes. Then if you are using TM on the old machine choose the TM option and follow the on-screen instructions. If you backup using a bootable clone then choose that drive and follow the on-screen instructions. If you have already received the new iMac and ignored Setup Assistant instructions then you have a second chance with Migration Assistant. Migration Assistant is located in Applications - Utilities - Migration Assistant. Open that app and follow the instructions. MA and SA are cousins, similar but different. The primary difference is MA will create a new  user account when it migrates your data,  you will need to log into that account to access your data, settings, apps etc...

It's the Garmin Express App, and I have got it installed. But the installer opens every single time I log on and there is no install disk to eject?

In addition to Eric's excellent suggestion, the Users & Groups window will also provide a mapping of where the installer is located on your HD.
