IMac OS X, iPhoto permanently non responsive after attempted download.

I was downloading about 20 photos and 3 vidios from memory card using the iMac slot.  After selecting download for all the new images iPhoto became non responsive and required a force quit.  iPhoto now goes non responsive (after about 10 to 15 seconds) every time I start it.  The event that would have been created by the download shows but appears to be empty.  If there was some way I could delete this event I'm thinking (guessing)  it might fix the problem, but have been unable to find a way outside of iPhoto.   Thanks in advance for any suggestions.   OS X 10.6.8  iPhoto 8.1.2

Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

I have a large collection of books and music. My ipod will sync everything without a problem. Every time I try to sync my iPad it freezes and becomes non-responsive after every file. I'll get one file on there and then have to keep clicking to get itunes to respond again. What is up with this?

  • Help! iPhoto troubles - non responsive/potential loss of photos

Hi, my iPhoto crashed a few months ago and after an automatic repair option, it's no longer working properly. Amongst the problems that I have been experiencing include:
    - preview icons for each event or album do not display properly (i.e. the same photo shows up);
    -  it's extremely slow and non responsive, and usually leads to me having to force the programme to quit without achieving any thing with my photos.
If I reinstall iPhoto, how can I ensure that my photos are now accidentally erased forever? I have not backed up most of the photos I am afraid.
Any tips would be extremely welcome!

Give the following a go: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • ITunes non-responsive after upgrade

My assistant has iTunes on her PC and it has all but stopped working completely.
Upon clicking to launch it takes a good 10-15 seconds to do anything. Then, selecting anything again takes a good 10-15 seconds for a response...
Is there any background process I need to make sure is running? Do I need to make sure she is running the latest Quicktime version? I did a reinstall of iTunes (did a repair actually), but no difference...
    Any ideas?

    Okay,
I did as was described in the article and it sped up iTunes somewhat.
There is still a very long lag (5-10 seconds) between selecting anything in iTunes and it actually doing it.
I checked and she had neither "keep music organized" or "copy music to iTunes folder" checked, so I checked those and hit okay... iTunes is organizing.
If this doesn't help, then I am planning to backup her library etc., uninstall iTunes completely, reinstalling iTunes, and restoring her library.

  • Pretty much non responsive after close to 4.5 years... Any suggestions?

I've owned by PowerBook G4 since Aug 2004, and it has served me pretty well. I had a battery change since my battery was one of the recalled ones. It was working fine up until about last month, when I started to notice that it was taking unusually long amount of time to execute simple tasks such as opening Safari, or playing videos.
I know that I cannot expect top notch performance since it's close to 4.5 years old, but if its taking me close to 10-15 minutes just to boot up, enter my password to log in, open up Safari, go to Google and search for something, there is clearly something wrong. I backed up most of my music, video, photos and documents to an external drive recently and tried to clear out much of my hard disk as possible and it showed a little improvement, but about 2 weeks ago, it started being cranky again. When I connect my iPod to load songs, it takes forever for it to recognize, only for it to freeze. First the cursor doesn't respond, then it becomes the rainbow circle, then just stops.
Anyone have any clue as to what could be causing this? Would it help if I back up the entire disk and reformat the hard disk?
Also the new batteries aren't working out too well, if I don't leave it connected to the power supply, the battery doesn't last beyond 15 minutes before it goes off to sleep mode.

  • HT6030 Mail is non responsive after installing Mavericks

Installed Mavericks one month ago and Mail has been acting weird. After looking at emails for a while it gets to the point that clicking on an email doesn't open the email or clicking on a different folder doesn't open that folder. When I open mail now, no emails show up in the preview. Can't click on anything.

I just installed the Mavericks Mail Update in the Apple Store and it resolved this problem.

  • IPhoto goes non responsive on load up

    Hiya,
Running iPhoto with Aperture for my photography AS level. Both applications have serious issues loading up. I understand that Aperture is effectively an add on for iPhoto and they both use the same library hence why I am placing the blame on iPhoto.
I have around 1500 photos loaded onto the top spec 13 inch macbook (see product description).
I get this in activity monitor for a good 3 minutes before the library loads. I was under the impression that Flash storage was fast....

  • 1G iPhone 8gb - LCD non-responsive after dropping

    Hey guys,
I've got a 8gb 1st gen iphone that I just dropped The glass didn't crack, but there are several cracks underneath the glass. Now, the LCD isn't responsive at all. I've tried to do a restore but the touchscreen isn't functioning at all. The home and lock buttons work fine though.
Any ideas on what I can do to get this going again?
    Thanks

Which is fair enough, but it does sound like the "touch" element of the screen is broken and needs to be repaired/replaced.
These things do tend to break easily, remember the first Nokia's, i dropped them heaps of times, when it got scratched, you just got a new cover for it.

  • Iphone 3GS non responsive after Tomtom use

    Hi all,
Used my iphone today with TomTom (Europe) and all of a sudden it crashed in-app. Could not get the iphone to work with a hard -or soft-reset.
When doing a hardreset, the very first startup-screen appears ('connect to iTunes'), the IMEI and ICCID, indacte as 'unknown'. The provider at the top of the screen stays at 'searching'.
When connecting the phone to my PC, the itunes application states that I should unlock my phone before proceeding, but I am not presented that option.
Only strange thing is that my personal startup screen is shown when trying to make an 'emergency call'
Anyone any ideas as how-to proceed?
    thx!
    Marcel

Try holding down the power and home button until you see the apple logo. It could take a long time, but may work. Have it plugged into the wall charger when you do this.
