Imac osx 10.7.5 won't navigate internet

Problem:
Since March 16, I think after software update, my imac osx 10.7.5 can not display web pages (error: Safari can not connect to the server ...; same error with firefox). The mac is connected to the router via wi-fi, and cable. In the setting of my router tplink my mac is listed and has the ip address and mac address.
If I restart the computer with System Restore utility and try to navigate using the function 'search for help on the Internet' everything works. I ripistinato system osx lion without success.
I tried many solutions, but all without success someone can 'help me?

In System Preferences>Network>Select Ethernet or WiFi>Advanced button>Proxies tab. Is anything ticked/selected? If so, deselect it.
If that doesn't help, try making a New Location:
As described under 'Making new location': http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
If that doesn't help, try adding the OpenDNS numbers to your network settings (make a note of the number that is already there in case you need to re-instate it):
Go to System Preferences.
Click on Network.
Select the first connection in your list and click Advanced.
Select the DNS tab and add 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 to the list of DNS servers.
Click OK

    Claudio,
Your profile indicates you are using 10.4.x, that means your computer is at least 5 years old. You can contact AppleCare in your area and ask to speak to Customer Relations. To reach AppleCare please use:

  • Any fix for external Iomega HDD won't mount to iMac OSX 10.8.5 Desktop?

I have a 750GB Iomega external HDD that I've used for several years to back up my iMac (OSX 10.8.5) with Time Machine.  No problems.  Computer locked up while searching on the internet last night, requiring a restart.  The external HDD never came back up on my desktop,  It has power and all cable connectors are tight.  The disk powers up and runs, but it just repeats its attempt to mount over and over, but won't show up on the desktop.  So I can't run Disk Utility or any diagnostic software, since it isn't accessible form the iMac.
Any suggestions?  I'm guessing my only option is to bite the bullet and buy a replacement backup hard drive, and start over from scratch in Time Machine.  My attempts to look for help on the Iomega site have been frustrated by the new post merger Lenovo-EMC based site.  Practically no references found to Iomega at all!

Yes, I checked that, and I tried restarting the computer with the HD turned on, then again with the HD turned off until after the computer finished booting up before turning the HD on.  Nothing has worked to get the externa; drive to show up on the desktop.  Thanks for replying.  I'm not holding out much hope that the drive is going to work again.  I'm on my way out to pick up a new backup drive.  I figure I'll get one that is at least a TB, and 3.0 USB capable so that when the time comes that I replace my old iMac, the new drive will at least be able to back up the new equipment.

You need to restart the iMac and hold down the Command and R keys immediately.
You will then have the utilities drop down and you choose Terminal
    When Terminal opens, type exactly:
    resetpassword
    and press Return.
When the Reset Password window opens, select the user for which you want to change the password.
Enter the new password twice, and then click Save.
    Accept the next dialog window,
    And then Apply
When finished click the apple at the left side of the menu bar, and the Restart.

I have created a second user on my iMac (OSX 10.7.1) and applications won't stay in the dock and my preferences default after restart. Everything works fine with the main user. Anyone else have this problem?

    Hi again, ;o)
I found this advice in another thread (here), which you might find helpful...
Unregistering the iMac from .Mac syncing and re-registering it (replacing the computer's information with the .Mac information) resolved the issue.
The .Mac sync information was Reset (i.e. recopied in it's entirety) from the MacBook (the 'good' computer) to .Mac prior to unregistering and re-registering the iMac, so a fresh copy of the sync could be loaded from .Mac to the iMac.
I hope this helps the others who have had this problem.

  • Need the newest flash player for imac osx 10.4.11

Hi, I have an iMac OSX 10.4.11 & everything I used to use won't work because it tells me to update my flash player to version 10. But when I try, it says that it's not supported by my operating system. I can't upgrade the system, I have no budget for that. I don't know what to do. I need a flash player that will make things work for me again, but I can't upgrade, what do I do?

The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a later version installed.

  • IMac OSX start up troubles

Since yesterday my iMac running OS 10.5 won't start up. Note that this is my first mac ever and I am totally not a tech head.
When it starts up, I get a grey screen with the Apple logo and some sort of engine running beneath it. Nothing happens.
I called applesupport but they would only help me if I signed up for this rather expensive Applecare eventhough the mac is less then one year old.
    Things I have tried:
    - starting up in safe mode by holding left shift key when hearing the start up sound until I see the logo... nothing happens
    - Inserting the installation disc, starting up while holding option key, selecting the disc and going to the disc utility. I ran disc repair for the HD, no errors. I ran disc permissions, I get: Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    - I tried reinstalling osx using archive and install (I actually don't know if it keeps my documents :, I don't have backups ) and here I got the same error. Installation failed.
I don't know what could have caused this problem, I did do the following: I option clicked the mac disc on the dashboard, and I got this window with beneath where permissions is there was a lock, not knowing what it does, I clicked it but could not click it to it's previous option. (don't remember what I was looking for) Could this be causing all these problems?
Anyhow, any help would be very much appreciated. I don't know anyone with a mac who can help me.

Didn't work? Hrmmm, this is a tough one. I have feeling your system is intact, but something is just not letting it get past the initial boot stage. If you heard clicking noises with this, I would say perhaps you are having a HD failure.

At first I didn't think this could be the issue. I had trouble sorting out what you are saying. But at closer inspection, it could be the problem. If you locked your startup disk, then it might not be able to perform basic read/write function needed during the boot. I option-clicked on my main HD, but I don't see what you are describing. I get the lock is when I click on Get Info in that pop up menu, under ownership and permissions there is a lock next to owner and it is locked already. I don't think that would be the issue.
When you boot from the OSX DVD or another external HD, can you see your main hard drive? Can you access it at all?
Unless someone else here has an idea, I'm afraid you make need to take it in to an Apple Store.

  • IMac starting in safe boot won't accept p/w as stuck on caps?

    Hello
My iMac OSX opens at 'safe boot'' screen and requests password. Won't accept password as stuck in caps (I have checked keyboard and it's fine) and my password is not in capitals! Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.
    Many thanks

Have you tried a PRAM reset?
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Do you another wired keyboard you could use to see whether the existing keyboard has developed a problem.

  • I have installed the latest OS X Updaate 10.8.4 - several times on my iMac, with restarts, but it won't disappear from my App Store update list.  Why?

I have installed the latest OS X Updaate 10.8.4 - several times on my iMac, with restarts, but it won't disappear from my App Store update list.  Why?   ..and how do I get rid of it?

I had a similar problem with trying to update using the App Store, and being told that the software was "installed" yet I was still only running 10.8.3.
The App Store was continually saying the 10.8.4 was available but with many tries I still could not download or install it.
And there are a few links to the OSX 10.8.4 (Combo) update that actually lead to a "Cant find this page error" on the Apple site and the App Store.
I did find a link to just the vanilla flavoured OSX 10.8.4 update here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1658 which is a smaller download of 359mb rather than 849mb with the combo update.
The simple OSX 10.8.4 update downloaded fine with Safari and I installed it with no problems from the finder. A few opening's on closing's of the App Store app made the update flag finally disappear.
I have since come back here to report this and then found the link to 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo) at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659 above and found that this link also starts to download the update through Safari and while I decided that I no longer needed it, I would presume that it would still install fine from the finder like the OSX 10.8.4 update did.
So it seems to me that there is a problem with (maybe occasionally) updating from the App Store, but if you download from either of the two "hard" links above and install from the finder it should be fine.

  • Imac OSX 10.5 wouldn't start

Hi I have an iMac OSX 10.5 the other day it wouldn't start, I reinstalled the system and it's been working fine but I'm worried why this happened. It was working fine before, any ideas why this may had happened?

Thank you, actually what happened is that it gost stuck on the blue screen. I followed various tips about pressing different keys etc but nothing worked until I reinstalled the system. I'm just hoping this won't happen again and checking becuase I'm about to upgrade it to 10.6, could you please tell me if I need to uninstall the previous verions, or all I need to do is insert the new one?

  • IMac g5 (isight) 20 inch won't boot up from harddrive or cd

Hey! I am going to make this all very clear and explain everything to the best of my ability (this might be long).
My friend gave me this iMac g5 with the built in iSight. The computer was not functioning properly, so I decided to see if I could find some help fixing it.
Basically, like many others, my computer is stuck on the grey loading screen, and I can't figure out what operating system it is running because of this. I asked my friend what OS it was running and he said he didn't know. I have tried EVERYTHING to fix it. Here's a list:
Pressed Option key at start (nothing happened)
Pressed C key at start with Disk Warrior in the cd drive (won't boot from cd)
Pressed C key with Tiger OSX in cd drive (won't boot from cd)
Reset the PRAM to no avail
Reset the SMU to no avail
Infact, the only thing that seems to work is COMMANDOPTION+OF ...and I don't know what to do when i get to that screen...i've been using it to eject cd's from the imac...thats about all i know.
PLEASE HELP! I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO!

    Thankyou for your response!
Unfortunately, I have been to that support page. I cannot even get into disk utility, let alone the mac osx software.
is there anything else i can try? maybe something in open firmware since its the boot key that works

I have IMac OSX 10.9.4, 4GB,Processor 3.06 with Intell2Duo. I would like to check for Malware. I run a TechTool Pro 6 every month and that comes up great.
When check how much memory I am using, with only Safari open I am using 3.9 and more of her 4.0 memory. She is very. very slow in processing. I had 4000
trash to clean out and it took her over an hour to expel. Also for some reason Safari will not allow me to click on a link, in my G-mail, and let it go to the page.
It has a sign saying a pop-up blocker is on and will not let me do it. I must open the stamp to look at my e-mails and if I have redirected link now I can do it.
I have not changed my preferences so where is this pop-up blocker?
I have looked at preferences on Safari and Google, which I do not understand Google, and do not see where this blocker could be.
Malware is something I want to make sure is not on my computer. Tech Tool Pro 6 is all I know of and it does not detect Malware.
    Help.

  • I can't open almost any app on my iMac (OSX Lion 10.7.4). Every time I attempt to do so, the app "unexpedtely quits" and can't go further. This happens with iTunes (when I turn to the iTunes Store), MacApp Store, Software updates an many other apps...

I can't open almost any app on my iMac (OSX Lion 10.7.4). Every time I attempt to do so, the affected app "unexpedtely quits", showing a window (sort of expanded dialog box) with the log history, wich form a complete report wich is said to be sent to Apple. Despite that this window has a "restart" button, I haven't been able to go any further from this point, as it repeats the process again and again, impeding me to use the affected app.
This has get to a critical point, as it is afecting apps like iTunes (especifically when I turn to the iTunes Store from within te app), MacApp Store, Software Updates (I can't update anything, given this problem) and many other apps, including Aperture 3, Fusion 4, integrated Dictionary and Wikipedia, as I've been able to verify.
As far as I'm concerned, it hasn't affected apps like Office, Vectorworks, Pixelmator, iDraw, Quick Note...
Can anybody help me on this matter?
    Thanks a lot, in advance...
    Marcus

Use Lion Recovery to repair the startup disk if necessary, or reinstall the Mac OS X.

If you bring up Safari browser, and go to www.google.com, does it give you an error?
It is possible that you are not getting DNS. From the OSX terminal can you run the following two commands
    1. dig www.google.com
    2. ifconfig en0
    3. ifconfig en1
    4. ping -c 3 www.google.com
