IMac output to Plasma suddenly darker

Hi guys,
Can anyone help with this problem?
I have had my iMac 20" Display output connected to our Panasonic 37" Plasma for 18 months now with no problems at all, then the other day I put the TV to the Computer and the picture was very dark with skin colour very red. I haven't touched any settings on the TV or the iMac (I don't think anyway) up until this point. Messing with the TV picture and Computer settings doesn't bring the picture back to it's original clarity and I can't seem to find anything on the iMac that can help.
Hoping someone can help
iMac 20" 2.66GHz 4GB RAM Leopard 10.6, Panasonic TH-37PX70B Plasma linked with 15 Pin D-sub iMac output set at 1152 x 870 (Since 18 months ago)
Many thanks
Matt

There's been a lot of similar sounding complaints lately stemming from a recent update. The solution in those cases has been to go into Displays Preferences and start a color calibration. When you get to the part about the gamma setting, switch it from 2.2 to something lower. Usually 1.8 has done the trick.

  • IMac from 2009. Suddenly making noise like a loud fan.

My IMac from 2009 is suddenly making noise like a very loud fan, or a little like a vacuum cleaner. The sound seems to becoming from the IMac, not my speakers.  Could this be from any of the wires or connections plugged into it?  Restarting the computer did not stop this. I think this happened once before a long time ago. Anything I can do?

Before I saw Mike Sombrio's post:
I restarted the IMac without unplugging the power cord, but the noise was still there when the IMac came back on.  Then I repeated this about 10 minutes later, (restarting the computer without unplugging the power cord). This time the noise was no longer there. I don't know what's going on. I hope this problem does not return. Any explanations? Is this a sign that my IMac is having serious problems? Any advice?

My iMac all of the sudden started going in and out of the dashboard, then started changing all files on the desktop to 2's. It also did this when having another window open. Do I have a virus?

There are no viruses that can affect Apple OS X.
What files do you keep on the Desktop? How many?
Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.

  • IMac 2008 emc 2211 suddenly turns off and back on, RAM problem?

I have an iMac from 2008 emc 2211.
Two years ago i upgraded my RAM from 2GB to 4GB Crucial memories.
Two weeks ago my imac started to suddenly turn off and back on inmediatly. Recently it stared to happen more often to the point that it can't boot completely and show the desktop
I checked the power source and it was fine.
I opened the computer and pulled out the power supply and it seamed to be fine.
I tried to run the hardware test with the disk that came with the computer and it can't even finish the test because it turns off.
Before it couldn't boot anymore i checked if it was overheathing with smcFanControl and the temperature was always around 44C, so it was fine.
Could this be the crucial RAM that is failing?
    thanks in advance.

Ok, i've replaced the RAM and the power supply and the problem persist, so it seams to be the logic board that is failing.
    Any ideas?

  • IMac output to TV

    Hi,
I was wonder which is the best solution to connect my iMac to my TV.

You will need the [Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter|http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLI D?mco=75A42EE8&nplm=M9319G/A] to plug into the iMac's mini DVI output port. The Video adapter supports S-Video and RCA (Composite) connectors, check the TV set S-Video will give you better quality. Note: the imac's Mini DVI output port is video only and no audio output, that will have to come from the headphone output jack port.
Another solution for a TV in another part of the house is [Apple TV|http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco =9CE57AC&nclm=AppleTV]

  • Imac and my plasma tv

I have a first gen imac G5....and a 42" plasma tv....can i hook up my imac to the TV so i can watch movies that are on my imac on the TV?....is so what kind of cable do i need...and what is the quality like?
    Thanks

Plasma TVs have a VGA input and Apple sells a cable that will take the mini-VGA plug on the back of your first gen iMac to a standard VGA plug.
Apple Store links time out, but do a search for "Apple VGA Display Adapter" and you will find the one I am talking about. It is $19.00.
I know people use it to connect to projectors, but I am not sure what kind of quality you could expect on a 42" plasma.

  • Scary problem! Old photos suddenly dark, low resolution.

Going through some old pictures I've just noticed that 3-4 sets from 4 years ago have become very dark and lower resolution.
The weirdest part is that they are not complete "sets" -- that is, the darkness seems to in random groups of certain sets (i.e., the first 3-4 are okay, followed by 20 dark/low rez images, followed by 2-3 'normal' images).
I tried zapping the PRAM, as I read that resolved a similar issue. And I repaired permissions.
    No dice.
Any thoughts? What I'm afraid of is this happening to all my photos.
Note that I upgraded from a 12" G4 to an iMac two years ago, and imported all those photos. I also upgraded to 10.6 about 8 months ago.
But I just noticed this now -- not sure when it happened.
