IMac powers off in sleep mode after Mountain Lion installation

After I installed Mountain Lion on my 2010 iMac, it will power off after I don't use it a while. It used to just go to sleep, I'd shake the mouse, and it would come back up. Now it powers off and I have to power it back up every time.
My Macbook has NOT had this problem since Mountain Lion install. It is fine.

Try doing a smc and pram reset.

  • 2008 iMac won't turn on after Mountain Lion installation

I have a 2008 iMac with 6GB of RAM that was running on OS X 10.6.8 perfectly. Tonight I upgraded it to Mountain Lion. After the installation, my machine was running slower and a little choppy, especially when first opening programs, even though it meets all the requirements for Mountain Lion. After about an hour or two of running like this, I was standing away from the computer for a minute when I saw a flash come from the monitor. I went to it and the screen was black. I thought maybe it had went to sleep, but nope! It was completely off and would not turn back on. No lights or sounds come on at all. There was no power outage or anything, and all other devices plugged into the same surge protector were working fine. I tried plugging it into another outlet and still had no luck.
Any insight onto what caused this? Is it most likely a power supply failure, and could this have been caused by the Mountain Lion installation? Considering I've had this computer for almost 5 years and this has never happened before, it seems obvious that this contributed somehow.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm going to try to take it to an Apple store soon, but the earliest appointment is a few days away.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It's quite possible that the power supply failed. The failure is difficult to be related with OS X Mountain Lion, so I would discard that. In some cases, it's normal that you experience slowness after installing a new OS X version because Spotlight indexes the hard drive.
The best you can do is to take it to an Apple Store or reseller so you can get your Mac diagnosed. Now we can't do anything else apart from thinking that is a power supply issue

  • Imac shuts off during sleep mode

when in sleep mode my 2010 imac 21" shuts off after a couple of hours? It starts up fine but happens evertime its in sleep mode.

You may improve some of your power issues by resetting the SMC on your iMac by using the instructions found here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
The only other thing I can think of, outside hardware/power supply problems, is your power is getting cut off for a brief period. You can go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options > you can CHECK 'restart automatically after power failure' - if this is already selected, then I would think it maybe a hardware issue... let us know

  • Apps do not respond when waking from sleep mode in Mountain Lion

updated to the new OS a few weeks ago (no more than 14days) - since the upgrade, everytime the Mac awakens from the sleep mode, nothing responds.
If you select the app the app will just bop up and down.
If you try to clear trash, the message window appears but doesn't complete the task.
If in Safari, the page doesn't load.
In iPhoto the a blank window opens but nothing else apears and the loading icon continues to rotate but nothing else happens.
The mac is using an ether net cable and not over wifi.
There is no problem if once I restart the machine, however this has to be done via the power scoket as the "restart and shutdown" options again do not respond and timeout.
To save energy I use the sleep mode all week Sunday PM to Friday AM.  The machine is usally switched off all Day Saturday.  However as I use it everyday during the week I avoid turning it on and off everyday.  It is only 2 years old and I did not have this problem before the upgrade.
Anyone got any ideas or having simliar issues?

    Hello:
From what you describe, I would probably reinstall OS X 10.8.  In answer to your question, I have not seen anything similar.
You might also look at your log files around the wake time to see if anything looks "odd."

  • Sleep Problems After Mountain Lion

I installed Mountain Lion on an Early 2009 iMac with 2.66 Ghz Intel and 4GB of RAM. I was upgrading from Lion. My computer is now ignoring my Energy settings, not going to sleep or dimming the display. What could be the problem?

Reselect and reset your Energy Saver Preferences.
Reset the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Wifi disconnects when waking from sleep mode; running Mountain Lion

Had this same issue with Lion as well,, wifi disconnects when waking from sleep mode,,,any ideas how to fix this pesky issue?

    Hi Sky,
This has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

  • System Crash Screen after Mountain Lion Installation

I tried to install Mountain Lion on 2 different MacBook Pro Laptops, one newer 15" running latest version of OSX Lion and the other a 13" running latest updated OS as well.  I can download the software, it goes through download, starts the app, I get the app started on the install and then let it do it's thing, when I return to check on it I get a screen full of numbers and text with the error message that states you have to press and hold power to turn off.  The same kind of screen you get when your system crashes and can't run.
Not sure if it's when it's trying to reboot or if its when the OS is installing.  I run little snitch and gave the app full access on all ports to the Internet, but not sure.  The 13" MP wasn't connected to anything except a LAN cable, no external monitor or keyboard or even a mouse.  Just the laptop itself.
The 15" is connected to display, keyboard, mouse and an external hard drive.
The only way I was able to fix, was to reboot using Command R to get into recovery mode and restore from backup using Time Machine worked perfectly fortunately.
Any ideas on why it wouldn't install? or how to fix?
I even made sure to close down all applications first prior to installing.
The only thing I didn't do was to disable Time Machine, not sure if it tried to kick off during the installation and that made it crash or not?

I disabled Time Machine and tried it again.  This time I watched it.  It ran the first part of the application and then rebooted.  When it rebooted it came up with the following text screen with the window to reboot hold down power button:

  • MacBook Pro runs slow after Mountain Lion installation

I have a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro with 2.2g Ghz processor, 2 GB of RAM and 160 GB encrypted disc.
After installing Mountain Lion and the recent upgrade OS X 10.8.1 (12B19), the system runs noticibly slower than with Lion, which ran slower than the previous version.  This shows up in opening and closing programs, rate that drop down windows appear when something is clicked on the task bar,  rate that windows open and close, rate that the dock comes up and the icons expand when the curser is moved over them, etc.
Due to my type of work, I need to encrypt the disc.  I know this is costing me some speed.  I unencrypted the disc and it ran noticably faster, and when I re-encrypted it seemed to run faster than before unencrptying and re-encripting.  I have repaired permissions and verified the disk OK.
Somewhere in the build up to Mountain Lion release I thought I read where 4 GB of ram was recomended for Mountain Lion, allthough now the specs indicate 2 GB is OK.  In activity monitor, the pie chart for system memory seems to always remain less than about 40% of active memory (yellow).
What recomendations does the community have to increase the speed of operations back to when this system was new?
    Dave

I was having the exact same problem.  My MacBook Pro was seriously close to unusable how slow it was.  On a different thread, someone recommended I reset the VRAM and PVRAM (not sure about those initials).  Shut down computer.  Rebooted while holding down Command-Option-P-R all at the same time until I heard the second startup tone and then released.  I noticed an improvement in performance immediately.

  • Existing IMAP notes not available in notes app after mountain lion installation

After today's mountain lion upgrade (from lion) my notes stored on an IMAP server are not available in the new notes app. The folder of the IMAP Account itself is shown but appears empty. On my Iphone all notes of the IMAP Account are shoen correctly as well as on another mac still running lion.
    Any Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Okay, I assume there are some different reasons for the syncing problem.
I got my notes syncing again by just losing the prefix on my iPhone and renaming the existing notes folder. For those with a similar problem, here's how:
    Old situation:
Within OS X Lion I used a Gmail account with notes (IMAP). To avoid a messy layout with the Gmail folders I used [Gmail] as IMAP Path Prefix (found under Accounts, tab Advanced).
Under iOS5, 'Notes' was ticked on under the Gmail account. The result: Apple created a IMAP folder '[Gmail]/Notes' to store all notes.
    New situation:
After upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion I ticked 'Notes' under the Gmail account within system prefs, 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars'. The new Notes app remained empty and didn't show my existing notes that were still on my iPhone.
Logging in to www.gmail.com reveiled a new folder created by Mountain Lion: 'Notes'. The existing notes folder was named '[Gmail]/Notes' - because I used the [Gmail] prefix - and contained al the existing notes.
So Mountain Lion syncs with the IMAP folder 'Notes' and the iPhone syncs with the folder '[Gmail]/Notes'
In Lion the Mail settings were used for both Mail and Notes. So the IMAP prefix applied to both.
In Mountain Lion, the IMAP prefix only applies to Mail, not to Notes.
    New situation, fixed:
As Mountain Lion can only use a folder called 'Notes' for syncing, I had to change the folder my iPhone was syncing with: '[Gmail]/Notes'. I removed the newly created folder 'Notes' via www.gmail.com under the label settings and renamed label '[Gmail]/Notes' to 'Notes'. After that I removed the IMAP prefix '[Gmail]' from my iPhone Gmail (advanced) account settings, making the iPhone sync notes with the folder 'Notes' instead of '[Gmail]/Notes'. That's it.
Btw, I maintained the use of the prefix within Apple Mail under Mountain Lion as that is totally separated from the Notes section.
    Hope this helps.

  • After Mountain Lion installation a new folder does not open

After installing Mountain Lion when creating a new folder in my home folder the new, empty folder will not open correctly. When double clicked, the new, empty folder shows the other folders in my home folder not an empty folder. The icons displayed also get slightly smaller.
If the newly created folder is clicked once it remains selected until a new selection is made in the sidebar. Doing this also does not allow any other folder in the home folder to be selected.

Same type of problem as described in this thread:

  • Youtube doesn't work after Mountain Lion installation

I recently installed Mountain Lion on my iMac. Since then the Youtube website will not open when on wifi. It will open when ethernet is connected. This is the only site that seems to be affected. It stalls for a second or two, then I get a blank screen and the URL changes to www.youtube.com/?tab=w1. I read through every forum I can find, tinkered with the network settings, deleted cache files for the browsers, etc. Firefox, Safari and Chrome all do the same thing.

  • Lost bootcamp windows disk partition after mountain lion installation

    Greetings all!
So I've had Bootcamp (windows 7 and snow leopard, 125gb of hard drive storage on each) on this MacBook Pro (late 2010) for over 2 years and I decided to upgrade to mountain lion.
As we all know that we can partition the disk under windows into smaller volumes, often labeled as C:, D:, E:, etc. my friend divided the hard drive storage for Windows into C: and G: when I first had windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 2 years ago.
The problem emerged after I installed mountain lion couple days ago. I'm still able to choose the system I want it to run after i press and hold "option" key and it will log on windows without any problem. My windows desktop looks the same as what it was before installing. HOWEVER, my partition G: totally disappeared! Partition C: remains the same. I'm pretty sure that G: is still somewhere in the hard drive because the system tells me that out of 125GB of storage for windows, 50GB is used, which is the size of C:, and available is only 10GB! So the difference of about 60GB must have been taken by the lost partition G:. I tried searching specific files that I have in G: under windows but it returned me no results. So I'm thinking it might be virtual somewhere. The files in G: are very important to me, so I'm looking for help/suggestions here to restore that partition by all means.
Thank you very much for taking the time reading my post and I'm really looking forward to your reply!

Ok, I just found a way out this nightmare. The problem is that for a unknown reason, the password has to be entered as if it had been originally entered on a US keyboard layout (QWERTY)... So I had to find which keys I would have stroke if I had entered my password on a US keyboard thinking it was a FR one (AZERTY).

  • 2010 Mac Mini display and network issues after Mountain Lion installation

I just installed Mountain Lion on my 2010 Mac Mini, but now the display won't work and it isn't showing up on my network.  I have it hooked up to my TV (I don't have another screen for it) via HDMI.  Also, I've mainly used this computer by using the share screen function with my laptop, so I don't have a keyboard or mouse for it either.  The Mini is no longer showing up on my laptop's network list...  Any suggestions?

I would see if you borrow a USB keyboard and mouse
from some one, because otherwise trouble shooting the
problem will be next to impossible as sometimes the fixes
and diagnostics require the keyboard (PRAM reset, Hardware
    Test, etc.).
