IMac prints yellow

I'm not sure where to post this; seems as good a place as any.
Been on Windows for years (long story.)
My Sony P4 worked fine with my Canon Pixma iP6000d. I bought an iMac 20 Intel, specifically because I wanted to use Aperture. Prints on the Canon printer came out with a distinct yellow bias--yellow sky, etc. AppleCare thought it was the printer. I bought an HP Photosmart D7160 printer. It prints just as yellow. Normal prints with the Sony.
Either printer prints normally directly from Compact Flash--the same photograph. All software is up to date. I have re-installed OS X twice, first the way it kept my files and settings, the second time so that it wiped out everything and I had to start over. I re-installed Aperture, Adobe CS2 for Mac, etc, all under the direction of AppleCare, and updated them all. No change; it still prints yellow. Yes, I know about the sliders in the printer setup. Seven sliders, one hundred possible settings on each, for seven to the one hundredth power possible settings, I think. I have tried several hundred settings without finding a satisfactory combination to get a decent print. Cyan has to be set to plus 30 or 40 to get anywhere near the ballpark, for a start.
Local Apple Geniuses say this problem is well beyond their expertise. AppleCare says the local store will take it from here.
I'm trying to set up a test to use my files and printer on a store iMac 20, but so far they haven't been able to. They think I am going to just get a refund and go back to Windoze.
Any ideas?

The discussion continues on the Aperture group...

  • HP Color LaserJet CP1215 - Color printing - Page prints yellow background

Good morning --- I don't believe I have posted to this forum before, so I hope someone can help me solve this issue.
    My CP1215 color LaserJet -
    printing pref set to color-
printing a document with colored icons, etc. or color photograph
Results: the "background" or what should be the white area, is yellow - bright yellow.
If I switch printing pref to B/W, I get a black/white document or photo.  Of course, no color.
I have replaced the yellow toner cartridge (HP product) TWICE, the second one just this morning.
    There are NO error messages.
Tried running the cleaning tool; disconnect/reconnect, etc.  No luck.
I gave up trying to solve this issue 2 years ago, and have kept the pref set to black/white with no tech issues.
Now, however, I have the need to print in color, and I would really like to figure out how to correct this problem.
This printer is a monster - ~30 lbs or more, and I would rather not have to haul it to a computer shop or ship it.
If anyone out there has had this problem, please let me know how/if you were able to resolve it.  Many thanks.
    Susan - Threecats

    Hi Threecats
I understand when you print in color you are getting a yellow background.
I have included a document for troubleshooting the all yellow background printing.
Print out a configuration page from Solution eight first. This document  will provide steps for cleaning and calibrating the printer. The Print quality troubleshooting page will identify the print cartridge that is causing the issue.
Let me know the results when you compare it to the one in the document and if the background printed yellow again. Also the Print quality troubleshooting page results.
What kind of paper are you using?

  • HP OfficeJet Pro L7590 suddenly won't print yellow ink.

My OfficeJet Pro L7590 suddenly won't print yellow ink.  The cartridge isn't empty.  It still prints everything else.  Things that require yellow ink come out a different color (ie: green comes out blue).  I've cleaned the printheads several times from the "tools" menu and the report says the printheads are in "good" condition.  I've also tried soaking the printheads in hot water for 5 min like was mentioned on here.  Still nothing.  Any suggestions?

Hi - you've worked through all the steps in the support document here? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01957673&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
If you have, and still see bad red and green blocks on the PQ Diagnostic page (as described in the document), you may have to replace the black/yellow printhead (even if the printhead health is reported as 'good'). You can check your warranty on that printhead here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&docname=c00206040

  • Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Wireless suddenly won't print yellow; no error messages

Is it possible that a printhead needs to be replaced even when Diagnostics Pages all say "Printhead health:  Good"?   I don't have any error messages.  There are no obvious white lines through the colored blocks on test pages.  In a couple of blocks on some test pages, there is one, very fine, barely visible line, but it's not the same on all pages.  (Today I've printed about a dozen test pages of three different kinds that have colored blocks on them, and there are no white lines like the ones shown in examples of bad test results.)   I have used the tool for cleaning the printheads many, many times today and have cleaned at all of the levels.  The ink level in the yellow cartridge is fine, and it's been working well until yesterday and today.
The printing of the five colored blocks on test pages is good, bright, and clear.  The only problem is that the block which is supposed to be a light orange color is only pink, and the block that is supposed to be green is only blue:  they are lacking yellow ink.
I haven't had any problems with the paper I've bought at Staples for six years (I also bought my printer at Staples ).  The printer is six years old but has not been used hard.  I use it regularly for a page or two a few times a week, so the printer isn't sitting idle for weeks at a time.
I read something in "help" information about using a straight pin to gently remove excess adhesive from the nozzle of a new ink cartridge, which didn't apply to my cartridge, but I decided to experiment anyway by pushing a pin through the nozzle of the partially-used, yellow ink cartridge,  The test page I printed after that is the page with just four colored blocks on it rather than the five blocks on a different test page.  This is the only time in two days that the yellow ink has printed.  However, it printed in a wide horizontal band a little streaked with gray in the middle of the block.  Then there are fairly wide white bands (no ink) both above and below the wide yellow/gray streaked band in the middle, and there are very narrow, yellow, horizontal strips  printed along the very top edge and the very bottom edge of the block.  In other words, the sequence of horizontal printing in this block only is:  narrow yellow strip, wide white band, very wide yellow/gray streaked band, wide white band, and narrow yellow strip.
It seems this might mean that some yellow ink actually got through after I'd poked the pin into the center of the nozzle of the partially-used ink cartridge?  However, when I tried printing the same test page again, there was no color, no ink showing at all where the partially-printed, yellow block had been on the previous test page.  There was only a totally blank, white space where the yellow test block was supposed to be.  The blue block, the red/pink block, and the black/gray block all printed well.
When nothing solved the problem of yellow ink not printing, I replaced the partially-used, yellow cartridge with a new yellow cartridge, but that didn't make a difference either:  the yellow ink is still not printing.  Yes, I use genuine HP ink cartridges.  I buy new ones whenever I need them -- never refill them or use any other brand but HP.
I used the alignment tool once to fix some slight wavering in the lines on a test page.  The lines are now perfectly straight.
I apologize for being so wordy, but I wanted to send all of the details that might help diagnose the problem.  I read other questions and answers in the forum about yellow ink not printing, but while there were some similiarities, none of them was 100% exactly like my experience with the problem.  What shall I try now?  Thank you for any suggestions.

    Good day.

  • HP C5280 all-in-one printer will not print yellow

I tried cartridge replacement.  Update driver, and clean head. Nothing works. I had this printer in a box for three years without using. Now It will not print yellow or green.

Happy Monday edam. Green is actually the result of two or more color mixed together. Lets try printing a self test report:
Make sure the All-in-One is on and loaded with unused, plain, white paper.
Press Setup . The Setup Menu appears.
Press the down arrow button to select Tools , and then press OK .
Select Self-test Report , and press OK . The self-test report prints.
Let me know the results of the self test. Are all the colors present on the self test or are you missing specific colors?
    Thanks!

  • PLEASE HELP! - Printing Yellow on Brown Kraft Paper

Please, please help!! I am sooooo frustrated right now! For starters, I'm a bit beyond intermediate Photoshop user (10yrs of habitual use). I NEED to print yellow on brown kraft paper. There's no alternative. I have to or I'm going to have one VERY upset client. Really hoping someone out there can help me very soon or it's going to cost me lots of $$$ when I have to fake it and print the entire brown kraft-pattern background on white paper just to get the yellow to show (picture one, small yellow key on a full sheet of brown kraft paper)
Here's the skinny..... I obviously have chosen to have photoshop control the color management. The closest I have come is to use the printing profile: Japan Color 2002 Newspaper without black point compensation (I think I used Relative Compensation). The only way I can get the yellow to show on the brown is to actually PRINT a brown paper background ON TOP of the brown colored paper. Obviously, this is causing the brown paper to look quite dark. The yellow is perfect and I've now lost every other color (Navy & 3 shades of Gray). They're all dull against the multi-layered brown. I have tried manipulating the yellow to be more green or more orange and sure enough, they turn out looking green or orange. Should I switch to CMYK instead of RGB? If orange is a variation of brown, why does orange show up on brown so much easier than yellow?
Is there a way to manipulate the newspaper profiles to adjust for browner paper rather than grayer paper?
I am sooo close but I literally cannot figure this out!! Please tell me there's a color profile combination I'm not aware of..... and please don't tell me that printing yellow on brown is impossible After all, we're photoshop users. It's possible; just have to figure out how.
    Sincerely, One Desperate Designer

You may ask your printer whether he can use opaque yellow ink:
    https://www.google.de/search?hl=de&as_q=&as_epq=opaque+yellow+ink&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_nlo=&as _nhi=&lr=&cr=&as_qdr=all&as_sitesearch=&as_occt=any&safe=images&as_filetype=&as_rights=
Standard offset ink is transparent. The reflected light is always darker than the substrate.

  • IMac Printing debacle

Just purchased a 17 inch iMac, 2 Ghz Intel, 1GB SDRAM, 10.4.8, Microsoft Office 11.3.
I have it linked to my printer via Airport Extreme. My PowerBook and my G4 both print flawlessly to the HP DeskJet 845c via the Airport.
The iMac prints, but seems to chop every other line of print off. I'm sorry I can't explain it better. I can't find any options in the printer set up to aleviate the problem. HELP!!

    Jace,
Have you tried to delete your current printer from System Preferences>Print & Fax, and then redo the Preference setting. That has been a successful resolution for many whose new Intel-based iMacs have not successfully coexisted with their printers after the initial printer setup.
As a matter of fact it was exactly my problem when I got my first Core Duo iMac a year ago. I can't explain now why it can work on the second setup try but not the first any better than I could explain it a year ago:))

  • Why won't my iMac print consistantly to my compatible HP 6500A? I've checked for updates and downloaded the lasted software...still can't print. All my other Mac devices find the printer but the iMac is hit and miss. I'm operating the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.

When you say hit and miss do you mean sometimes you print a whole document with no problems, or do you mean each document has problems? This is from HP's website for your printer:
Your sig says 10.6.7 but your message says 10.7. So if it's really Lion, this printer isn't officially supported. Elsewhere on HP's site it says updated drivers will be available on your Mac via Software Update. Have you run that recently?

  • Photosmart Plus B209a not printing yellow

My Photosmart Plus B209a doesn't seem to be printing yellow. First thought was a blockage, but having changed the cartridge as it was low anyway, it's still not printing yellow. Any thoughts?

Problem now solved, just needed to clean the printhead. I always thought the printhead was part of the cartridge, so by changing the cartridge I'd changed the printhead. Turns out that isn't the case!

  • Hp officejet j5780 ... wont print yellow

my hp officejet j5780 ... wont print yellow
I"ve tried cleaning & priming cartridge but doesnt help.

The lack of yellow in printing could have many causes. Is the yellow missing if you print a diagnostic page? If it is missing altogether is is probably the cartridge itself. If you have already cleaned and primed the cartridge, then the problem is with the cartridge. If the ink is not low, the nozzles may have dried out, if printing does not occur once a month or so. The power should only be shut off by the switch is possible, as shutting down the printer by unplugging the power cord does not protect the cartridges.

  • My MP280 will not print yellow.

My MP280 will not print yellow. I have changed the cartridge and the driver, and after a restart the new cartridge is reacting the same way, Since the print head is built into the cartridge, the problem must lie in software, surely? The other colours print as expected, but the yellow is just the faintest suggestion, visible only in daylight.

    Hi Rich69427,
You will want to ensure that the page size and type selected on the printer matches the size and type of paper you are trying to copy on to try and resolve the issue.  To change the page size and type selected when copying, please follow the steps located here.
    Hope this helps!

  • My Tri color cartridge 75 suddenly stopped printing yellow

Hi! I have an HP Photosmart C5580 All-in-One, it has always worked fine. I bought new cartridges bot color and black and worked well for approximately 1 month. I just printed approximately 10 pages and the yellow color stopped appearing. I already tried to clean the cartridges with no difference. Yellow just wont appear and both printer and computer say the cartridge is full enough (which I think it's accurate since I haven't print that much anyway). Please help!
