Imac problems with Ram on Bootcamp

hello I just bought an Imac today and installed bootcamp on it and if I click on properties at my computer it says I only have 2.93 gb of ram, I have the 2.93 core 2 duo model with 4 gb ram, on mac works amazin just like my old macbook pro its jsut that detail on bootcamp...
any help will be apreciated

Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.

MSI P6N SLI PLATINIUM problem with ram 800MHz

Hello.
I have problem with ram frequency.
I have MSI P6N SLI PLATINIUM and OCZ 2x2GB 800MHz CL5 but in bios I see that my ram runs in 667 MHz. Because I have 800MHz ram, so it shouldn't be default 800MHz and not 667MHz? What I have to do to show bios that I have 800MHz ram?

Problems with RAM upgrade iMac G5 1.8GHz

Stuck - Need Help!
I've previously upgraded up iMac to 2 500Mb RAMs and felt recently that it needed that little bit extra, so I ordered two 1Gb chips from crucial.
Followed instructions to T, but with the two new chips in, the machine won't load.
Interestingly, it boots up with the following RAM combinations
old 500MB + new 1GB (in any combination) - recognised as 1.5GB
one new 1GB RAM (again either one) - recognised as 1GB
I spoke to crucial who said that as the RAMs work individually, there isn't a problem with them, it could be a Firmware issue. I've upgraded all my software, and don't know what to do next?
Anyone overcome a similar problem in the past?

I'm experiencing something very similar to shaow. I'll share my experience in gory details - sorry for the long post but I've spent more hours trying to stabilize. I should have worked the hours at walmart and bought a new iMac with the money I could have earned
Anyway, here goes:
Two iMac G5 1.8Ghz 17" (both Fall 2005 model), will call one A and the other B.
Prior to attempting ram upgrade: A, config working fine: both a config using 1GB slot 1, 256MB slot 2 and a single 1 PC3200 1GB stick. OS X 10.4-10.5.7. No problems. I did have the motherboard replaced under warranty after having sleep problems - capacitors were expanded. No problems since that motherboard swap.
Prior to attempting ram upgrade: B, config working fine: 2 x 256MB sticks. OS X 10.3.9
Ordered 3 PC3200 400Mhz 1GB sticks from Data Memory Systems.
Upgraded A: Added 1GB stick = 2GB total
Upgraded B: Removed both 256MB sticks from B and added two 1GB sticks = 2GB total
Booted B, experienced gray screen of death with the multi-language crash message - somethign like: 'Please hold down the power button and restart'. Power cycled B, booted off a retail box DVD of OS X 10.5.6. Began upgrade to 10.5.6. Gray screen of death part way thru upgrade. Power cycled, gray screen of death again during early boot phase.
Decided to run tests on B. I could not locate the Apple Hardware Test (neither on system dvd 1 nor on a separate DVD). I resorted to using TechnoTools Deluxe which was included with AppleCare box. No hardware problems found including on the 2GB memory.
Removed both new 1GB sticks, pulled older working 1GB stick from A and installed into B. Completed upgrade with just 1GB memory on B to 10.5.6 and subsequently pulled down all updates for OS X 10.5.8. Powered down, added second 1GB stick to B, booted into 10.5.8 successfully. Repaired disk permissions, restarted. Began using applications, then after only about 5 minutes experienced gray screen of death. Powered down, removed new 1GB stick, replaced with one of the two remaining new 1GB sticks. Read about reseting PRAM/NVRAM. Followed steps to reset PRAM then decided to do the reset NVRAM within openfirmware. Started back up and logged into 10.5.8. Ran several applications - did not experience gray screen of death after about 20 minutes use. Have not had time for further tests on B yet.
Back to my saga with A (my original iMac G5 that was working fine with 1GB stick on 10.5.7):
Called Data Memory Systems and they sent me a replacement for the 'bad' 1GB stick.
While I was waiting for the new 1GB stick from DMS, I was struggling to get machine fully updated. Software Updater was failing with the weird network error (network was fine) and after following steps to troubleshoot, I backed up the user accounts and decided to reinstall OS X fresh from the 10.5.6 retail box (family license). Finally, I had OS X 10.5.8 all fully updated on the 1GB iMac G5 (A).
New memory arrived, installed 2nd 1GB stick. Booted up, immediately I got the gray screen of death. Restarted, booted up got about 5-15 minutes use then gray screen of death. Puzzled, I called DMS who said unlikely I got 2 bad sticks. They suggested I try memtest. So I did...
So on A, I first ran memtest from single user mode on the 2GB config. It crashed immediately with some 'Unexpected' error. Did not look like a memory error. I powered down, removed 2nd 1GB stick, and ran memtest from single user on the 1GB stick. Ran all tests 3x over a couple hours - no problems found. Retested after swapping the 1GB stick for the other. Both tested fine. Installed both sticks again and ran memtest all tests, one pass (didn't want another 6 hours lost) on the 2GB config, and all tests passed. Booted up and got gray screen of death - I don't recall if it was on bootup or after running but I ran fsck with no disk problems found, then restarted, logged in, ran disk utility to repair all permissions. Some repairs were made. Restarted A, reset PRAM and NVRAM again, booted successfully.
I haven't had much time to run extensively apps on A yet. It's sleeping as I type this on another mac. My next test will be to reset SMU.
I'm starting to wonder if the original iMac G5 has firmware problems that would prevent it from being unstable with two 1GB sticks??? My experience on two identical models of iMac G5 plus reading this post with VERY similar behaviors and after all the normal tests. I've concluded the memory is A-OK and something more sinister is lurking...
Any thoughts are appreciated.

IMac Problems with Windows 7 SP1

I am having problems with sound and bluetooth mouse and keyboard connecting. In devices i hve the following error

I think this is a known or at least common problem. There is another one in the same family with the same problem.
I don't think it affects anything ecxept causing annoying yellow exclamation marks in Device manager and in the Printers and Devices control panel.
You can disable these drivers in Device manager to get rid of the exclamation marks. I found some forum threads about it somewhere but can't recall where.
This is what I have done on both my Win 7 bootcamp installs and noticed no side effects.
I am writing all this from memory so may have got some detail wrong.
EDIT: I see you link the problem to BT mouse and keyboard, but not sure that it is...or may be a different problem.

Strange problem with RAM!

Is there any problem with the MSI KT3 Ultra 2 supporting the 3 banks with RAM?
I used 256 Mb of crucial RAM for 1 moth but just Purchased another stick of 256 crucial and installed it but the board refuses to work with the two sitks at the same time, it works great with each of them but not with them toghether, what´s wrong?? ?( ?(

Now I don´t know what´s wrong, I have tried every possible combination, but the problem persister and now I´m very disappointed with this board, this is a very strange problem, I tested the memory with memtest 86 and it gives me aleatory errors for exemple gives 6 errors in the first pass then in the second pass is everything ok then gives me one or two in third, other times is everything ok all the away, and I just can test each stick alone if I insert the two stikers the program can´t run.
before all this problems I was able to reach 145 FSB with agressive timings in the memory, now I can´t even reach 133 FSB because it crashs, I can´t blame the PSU because it is an enermax 431, if it wasn´t so i believe the problem was from that but I think this PSU are enough for *1 athlon XP 1900 *1 DVD *1 Plextor CD-RW *1 Maxtor 40 Gb *1 western digital 80 Gb *4 Fans + the heatsink fan.
everything indicates that the problem is from the board, bacause when I use just one stick, it doesn´t matter which one, it works but when I use both toghether it refuses to work properly.
I have now two months with this board and I was happy with it but now I´m ?( X( :( ;(

MSI Z97 Gaming 3 problems with ram

Sorry for my bad english. I have only one bank of ram 4GB Kingston Fury 1866MHz and some problems with it. When it's installed on DIMM1, in UEFI BIOS, in Windows 8.1 Pro x64, aida64, cpuz, ram saw as DIMM3! If it's installed DIMM2 saw as DIMM4, or installed DIMM3 saw as DIMM1! What's that? What kind of problem on my motherboard?
Fresh BIOS version 2.6 installed.

You should try a different mem slot. Say for example 0 and 2. There have been issues with DDR slots and all different types of mobos. Like I have a Shuttle Ak31v3 mobo with 2x256DDR2100 Kingston and the chips will only work on slots 2-4 and 1-3. It will not boot if I tried any other combination. It's a pain in the ass but thats just how it is. I had this same problem with a Asus A7V266.
I don't however have that problem on my Kt3 ultra 2 R mobo.

Hello people, when i try to install apple drivers on my already installed windows7 through the disk i get errors:
Self extract blablabla error, the blablabla is the thing that is frozen in the installation with bootcamp apple drivers. Evry time i install a driver it freezez in the installation, (but not all drivers). Last time i had win 7, it was ok, but non genuine so i deleted it... I

Problems with ram on new imac... system failure???

just bought a new 24 imac... since the less expensive way to get more ram is known, i bought it separatley (1 gb), after i used it, it worked for a month with no problems at all... but about 3 days ago it started shutting down and would not work. I took the computer down to the apple centre but all they did was scream at me for putting in the ram... they cant seem to solve the problem, they are sure it is the ram... im not...
any ideas??? pls im desperate

Well, if it's a RAM problem, there are three possibilities:
1) The new RAM is bad. In that case, they would remove it, tell you that's the problem, and give your computer back.
2) The RAM that came with the computer is bad. In that case, they would remove it, replace it, and give you your computer back.
3) Both RAM sticks were bad (this is unlikely). In that case, they'd remove the new, replace the original, and give your computer back.
If it's in service, they would/should run a hardware check on it, which would show whether the memory stick are bad. That would/should be their first step.
Since they say that the computer is not working again, chances are that the problem is not because of the RAM. You are also within your rights to ask what they initially did to diagnose the problem. If "run a hardware test" isn't part of what they tell you, they didn't do a very thorough job.
This could be caused any number of things -- from the actual RAM slots being bad to a faulty power supply and a lot of things in between.

Imac Problems with bootcamp, plz help!

I installed windows xp on my new aluminum 2.0ghz imac, when i perform hard tasks like editing or watching video, or playing some pc games, the imac screen will crash. The monitor has been shut off but i can sill hear the video game. This happens allot now, and it forces me to shut down my computer forcefully.

Problem with Ram upgrade

Hi, I have an Imac (27", mid-2011) and I just bought a 4Gb Ram memory to install in one of the free slots, I installed and turn on my computer, the computer recognized the new memory but when I'm going to open a program (and even when I leave the computer alone and I don't do anything) the computer restarts with the next message: "The computer restarts because of a problem". 1. You have two different brands, Samsung (M471B5673FH0-CH9) and Kingston (99U5469-035.A00LF).
2. Typically, DIMMs are symmetrically added, 2,2,4,4 or 2,2,2,2 or 4,4,4,4 and each Bank should have matched pairs in size and speed.
If you remove the 4GB memory do your crashes stop?
MACs are very specific about memory.
You can try this, but it may not work.

Problem with RAM preview in Windows 7, AE 5.5

Hi there, I'm kind of a newbe with After Effect 5.5, have to make an animation for school and although I've already figured out how to make some magic with the program, I'm stuck on the RAM preview (yes, the one you get by hitting 0 if anyone asks). It gets stuck after 15-22 fps and that's it. I've searched forums, and comments and articles and whatsoever and the authores where having this issue when having Macs. Well, I don't, that's what I have:
64 bit Windows 7
Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2,00GHz
6,00 RAM
graphic card NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
(any more details needed?)
I've also tried many combinations with checking/unchecking OpenGL, changing Video Preview (Computer Monitor Only or IEEE 1394 Pal <=don't even know what that is, but maybe you'll want to know), and of course Multiprocessing (image below) turning it off ond on.
Compositions in my animation are for now just jpg's, png's and some psd layers, with some scaling and small dropshadows, nothing too fancy for now so I'm even more surprised I get the "Insufficient RAM" allert. (AE is the only running program except for GoogleChrome to search for possible solutions) Of course I need to add the sound but it's pointless until I figure out the RAM preview problem.
I think that's all the details, but if you need more just ask.
Please help me guys (and try to answer in simple English), it's really getting on my nerves and my deadline is coming...

I'm not sure that I completely understand what you are saying. Depending on the amount of available ram and the size and frame rate of the composition (not in your post) you may only get 15 to 22 seconds of playback. If it's only playing back at 15 to 22 FPS then you're choking your system. The first thing to do is to try setting the resolution of our comp to half and the zoom factor to 50%.
Now that I take a close look at your screen shot, that's not going to help much. Surprise, surprise! You don't have nearly enough ram to have Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously checked.You need 4GB per processor minimum. With 8 CPU's you'll need 32 GB of ram to take advantage of all your cores for AE and you'll still need 1 of them for background apps. Take a close look at the settings:
How much ram is allocated for background apps? 1GB, How many CPU's will be used for the background apps like writing to disk and reading from disk, which are necessary for ram preview? 0, zero, nada. That's not exactly accurate or your system wouldn't run at all, but it shows the problem clearly. You've manually choked your fairly powerful computer by tying upp it's resources in a manner that causes it to choke on memory and read write cycles. Even with 6GB of ram you've starved the system to death.
You've also allocated all of your ram to AE. Don't do that. Leave at least 1 GB for other apps, 2 would be better.
Redo the settings and AE should work just fine. BTW, this info is clearly stated in the ram and memory allocation help pages for AE.
