IMac programs keep crashing.

Hello,
I really don't know what to do anymore with this.
I bought this mac May 2009.
Since a few months (about 2, shortly after I installed Adobe CS4 I think) random programs have been crashing on my iMac.
It seemed to be just Adobe programs at the beginning, but then I got the same problem with Office programs and even the most random programs start to fail on me.
It doesn't just happen if I'm using a lot of RAM, nope it can also happen when I just started up my computer.
I have no idea where to look for an answer. The question is kinda general but what should I look for?
- RAM problems?
- Software problems?
- Virusses?
Any help would be highly appreciated!

I know this has been a while again so sorry for bumping but I still have the problem.
Programs randomly crash when starting up or shutting them down. Some other things crash such as the problem I stated before (when playing something in iTunes and pressing the "pause button" on my keyboard, RCD will crash).
So right now I've deleted many programs and the problem still occurs.
I don't know what to do anymore... would reinstalling MAC OS fix this problem or what is wrong?
I don't really feel like going to a store with this because first of all I need my computer pretty bad, and second I don't need strangers looking in to all of my files.
Could anybody tell me what to do? Thanks!

Brand new imac 27" keeps crashing.  I'm running 10.9.2 with all software up to date.  It will crash on file tranfers to/from/between external drives, web browsing, word processing, video editing, and even while idling.  It used to crash every 15 minutes when I first got it but I reformatted and reinstalled all software.  Now it it still crashing albeit less often.  This is extremely frustrating because I have no idea what I can do to prevent it from happening!
Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm thanks for the input.  Alright. I uninstalled Avast.  Was good for an hour or so.  I was doing some file browsing and crashed again.  Got this message.

  • Trying to convert my movie from Imovie to a high quality Itunes file and the program keeps crashing! This is an xmas gift for my mom ! Please help

Help! I made a 10 min movie for my mom for Christmas. Whenever I try to "share" it to make a cd of it the program keeps crashing! I HAVE to get this in the mail by friday! Please help

iTunes will not directly convert a protected AAC song. It also cannot convert some songs that are corrupted or have bad ID3 tags.
If it constantly fails at the same song, try eliminating that song from the list.
I have also found out that converting 400+ songs at a time can cause a fatal crash within iTunes. I usually stick to 200-250 songs at a time.
Post back with more details if it still happens.

  • My imac 2007 keeps crashing and then it beeps continuously

My imac 2007 keeps crashing and then it beeps continuously when starting up and just has a black screen.

Don't know what caused it other than RAM does occasionally fail.
Don't suppose you bought it from either Crucial or Macsales, as they guarantee their chips for life and will swap them over for replacements.
Sometimes, pulling the RAM chips out and re-seating them will get things working again.
Did you replace the original sticks or add to empty slots? It's often a case of trial and error to see which one/ones have failed. If the original chips were taken out and you still have them try pulling the chips that are currently installed and replacing them with the originals. Or, if the originals are still installed, just pull the additional chips and test. As I say, trial and error. Good luck!

  • Why do all my programs keep crashing after the most recent apple update?

Everything keeps crashing after i made an update on saturday. Anyone else having this issue, anyone know of any solutions. Safari, Chrome, all adobe products keep crashing. Very frustrating as today is a work day and have not been able to get anything done. I've lost a whole day of work and am really hoping for a solution so my whole week is not lost.

Have you got any programs which modify the OS, such as haxies and those fancy utilities? If so, you could delete them, preferably using the uninstaller provided by the supplier. Also, any out-of-date hardware which might be upsetting Lion?
If that fails, erase your hard drive and re-install Lion (which will be a clean install). Or erase and revert to SnowLeopard or earlier and wait for Lion to settle down.
However, for people running a business (you mention "work") it would be safer to install a new OS on to an external Firewire or USB HD and see how it goes. If it does not work, you can revert to your earlier setup. (If you can revert to an earlier workable OS, you could do that as well.)

  • 4 Adobe programs keep crashing

I contacted Adobe earlier concerning 4 Adobe programs that keep crashing.  The tech said the programs are missing fonts and I needed to install fonts that are used for CC.  I don't have CC and not interested in owning it.  Will the CC font files work with the CS6 version?

    Hi Mylenium,
Thanks for the reply.  The applications that keep crashing is Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Premiere Pro.  Here is a snapshot of one of the error messages that keep popping up.

We are not Adobe here. Rather user to user. If you purchased Premiere Elements 13 as an download from Adobe, then you need
to seek a return/refund from it within 30 days of purchase. The following links can be used for that.
Return, cancel, or exchange an Adobe order
    or
    Contact Customer Care
    Premiere Elements
    Membership, Account, Payment
    Payments, Invoices, Orders
    Chat Panel
If the "Contact Customer Care" link does not hold its set, then you will need to navigate to the Chat Panel for Orders using
    the above titles as guides.
If you purchased Premiere Elements 13 from an authorized reseller of the program, then you are governed by the return/refund
policy of the seller and need to contact it about the return/refund.
As for troubleshooting your issue, I will go over what has been written in the links above to determine if I can add any more to those.
But, as to the matter of libcef.dll, I have not seen a solution and follow up by the Adobe Staff person who entered the thread in the first
link. The frequency of the Adobe presence in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum is not defined.
Please let me know if you want to continue on the user to user basis to try to find an answer that has not yet been found or made known by
    Adobe.
    Thanks.

  • Programs keep crashing, WHAT CAN I DO?

Programs keep on crashing at random times, what can I do to fix this problem, please help!
    -Thank you

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions. (Well, the Installer actually uses superuser Permissions to do it's work, but after reboot it doesn't guarantee communication with other existing needed files Permissions.)
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD, but saves all your files and gives a new OS...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

    Hey guys,
I purchased a iMac retina last week and noticed it keeps crashing. It crashes at least once a day compared to the macbook I had that never seemed to crash. At first it crashed when woken from sleep from a few hours so I turned off putting the computer to sleep when display is inactive.
This is the error report I had this morning.

    Hey,
Yes I installed them side by side as in the new paid at the top two slots and then the installed ram below it. When I remove them installed RAM how do I test it again? This was from a crash report.

  • After software update, all of my programs keep crashing

I updated everything on my computer last night and since then, all of my programs are crashing as soon as I open them. Safari, iTunes, even the Sims 3 and my dashboard. I ran a virus scan and it says there isn't a virus on my computer. And I tried restarting the computer. Has anyone had a similar problem after the update or know what I can do?

Paste this into your Terminal program and press enter, paste the results here
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 } '
Read this support document, report your results
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3802
Turn off IPv6 in your System Preferences > Network > Advanced > TCP/IP
Reboot and see which of/if those steps help any.

  • HT4914 I am adding files to Match and the program keeps crashing. No firewall conflict.Any idea?indows 7

I am trying to add music files to ITunes Match but it keeps crashing ITune frequently. Any suggestions?

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Programs keep crashing

    Good day.
I just wanna know why is my File Explorer keeps crashing?
VLC and Chrome too. It ends up not responding so i have to use Task Manager to end those.
    I'm using Windows 8 BTW.
Please help me. Thanks in advance.

I found the missing files on my brother's Mac and copied them over to my computer to the locations specified in the crash logs and now it works.

  • My Aperture program keeps crashing, any tips on how to reinstall it please?

Hi i bought Aperture via the apps store online, therefore i dont have the instalation disk, my problem is my computer got shut down recently by mkistake, whilst aperture was running (the plug got pull out), since then aperture keeps crashing on me, even when it runs ok when i go to close it , i get an error message saying aperture closed unexpectedly. how can i reenstall it. please help

You may not need to re-install the application. Have a look at Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics and see if the steps outlined there don't help.
If you have to re-install from the App Store you will need to
Remove Aperture from the Applications folder on your computer
Log into the App Store using the same Apple ID you used to originaly buy Aperture
    Download it again.
You won't have to pay again.
    regards

  • G5 iMac iSight Keeps Crashing

My G5 iMac iSight keeps going to the dark vail while running or rebooting and gives me the message that I must reboot. This has been going for months now. It will be stable for a week or two and then do it over and over again. These last episodes were kicked off by me loading iLife '09 on it. After that it couldn't make it back from the rebooting. I had to do an active and install to get it back and running. Then it occurred over and over again during the update to 10.5.7 restart. It seemed okay for the last couple of days, then it did it again last night and then just couldn't restart from there. I've tried resetting the PRAM, removing USB items, repairing the drive from the OS X disk and now it get it started this morning I removed the 1gb extended mag stick and disconnected FireWire drives with a successful reboot.
What am I missing? What else can I try? Three other macs on the the network are working fine. This one I use as a media server so I need the extra drives and all the USB stuff.
    Thanks!!!!
    Jason

It may be that your RAM is faulty, that is often the cause of kernel panics, which is what you have been having. Try the solutions in Dr Smoke's Resolving Kernel Panics and see if any of them helps. But look to your memory first, and use Rember to check it.
    Please post back with results,

  • Installed iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.1 - now programs keep crashing

    Hi,
I installed the firmware update as recommended by apple and now I find that most programs crash on a regular basis. In particular, MS Office (Had this installed before the firmware and it worked perfectly) and iTunes.
Can I back out the firmware update?

    1) Quit all applications
    2) Click Shut Down in the iMac EFI Firmware update window and wait for your computer to shut down
3)Press and hold the power button until you hear a long tone, then release the power button
A status bar indicates the progress of the update
Important: Do not interrupt the update
Your computer restarts automatically when the update is completed and opens the iMac EFI Firmware update.
Click OK if the firmware is up to date
If these instructiona appear on your screen again repeat steps 2,3 and 4
Hope this helps - I had the same trouble initially!
