IMac reboots when attempting to update OS X 10.8.2

Hello,
I have a mid 2010 iMac 27"
I am running OS X 10.8.2
I have a notification that an update is available and a restart is required. When I click to do this the iMac reboots and then starts to install the update. After a little while the iMac reboots and I get the grey screen and then the message which says my iMac has been restarted because of a problem. I can then log in as normal.
This also occurs when Office 2011 attempts to install a software update.
Anyone got any idea's? I am trying to avoid reinstalling my OS

Try installing 10.8.3 through the Combo edition > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640 After installing it, install the Office update.
If you continue getting kernel panics, the next start you should see a window telling you that your computer turned off because of a problem, so press "Report" and copy here what you see in the white box

Similar threads solve this problem by either creating a new administrator identity, which allows one to update applications, or changing the keychain prefs to Best attempt.  My issue was solved by adding a new admin user, and then updating the apps from the App store using the new identity.  Under my orginal user identity the keychain app would crash when I attempted to open Prefs.  After creating a new identity and updating the applications (iPhoto, etc) I found I was able to open the keychain Prefs logged into my orginal identity.

  • Wrong apple ID when attempting to update apps?

My mother, brother and I all share a family computer, with a shared iTunes library. We all download applications from the appstore and sync them to this library. To save having to download the same app twice, I often sync free apps downloaded on their accounts to my ipod. Normally updating apps from my ipod is not a problem, as my mother, brother and I share our passwords, allowing me to update apps downloaded from all three accounts. Lately however I have been experiencing a problem.
Many of the premium apps (Which have been purchased from my accout) have recently released updates. However when I try to update them, I am prompted to input my mother's password. Since the apps have been purchased on my account, itunes will not let me update them with her's, and prompts me to re-purchase them under her account. No matter which account the apps in my updates tab have been downloaded under, I am always prompted to enter my mother's apple ID password. This problem is preventing me from updating any applications whatsoever, and the updates are slowly mounting up, there are 33 as I am writing this.
Strangely enough I can still download free or premium applications under my account with no trouble, it is only when I attempt to update them that I experience a problem.
I have already attempted a number of fixes to the issue, none of which have worked. These include:
    • logging out of the appstore and back in using my account
    • changing my password
    • doing a full restore of my ipod in iTunes (to a backup)
This is slowly becomig a major issue as more and more apps need to be updated, and if anybody is able to help me with this problem it will be much appreciated
Looking forward to (hopefully) solving this problem :)
    Thesupercheesy

Thanks, I was able to update all of the apps downloaded under my mothers account.
HOWEVER, I still have 22 updates for apps downloaded under my account, which I am still unable to update. Although all of the apps downloaded by my mother have been updated, I am still prompted to enter her account when I attempt to update any of the remaining apps. This happens no matter which account I am signed in to.
Hopefully somebody knows how to fix this once and for all,
    Thesupercheesy

  • Why am I unable to sign-in as prompted when attempting to update apps?

When i attempt to update an app, the popup says "sign-in required."  The options provided are Cancel or Continue. But when I select Continue, nothing happens. I am unable to update the apps.

    Hi, Jim4313.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend closing all open applications in multitasking and power cycling the device.  If the issue persists try signing into the iTunes Store on the device through Settings > iTunes & App Store > click on the Apple ID > Sign In.  Make sure to attempt the updates after processing each steps.
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
iOS: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store Apple ID account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311
You can also try signing into the iTunes Store via iTunes on your computer.  Once you do this, follow any of the prompts it requests and then try processing the updates.
    Cheers,
    Jason H.

  • HT4623 When attempting to update apps on my iPad, it gets as far as "waiting" or "installing" and no further...SO frustrating. I now have 13 Apps waiting....

When trying to update apps, it says "waiting" or "installing " but gets no further.  Some have been like this since January!! What must I do ??

This is my boilerplate response that I have posted many times on this forum. See if any of these suggestions work for you.
    1. Tap the "waiting" icon and see if you can pause it. If it does pause, then tap it again and see if it will resume. If that works, repeat the same steps for each "waiting" icon.
    2. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
    4. If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
    5. You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again. Apps may also be able to be deleted in Settings>General>Usage>Storage if you cannot get the X to pop up on the icon.
    6. You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
    7. If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • Color LaserJet 2605dn reboots when attempting any report from LCD. Says Printing, then resets.

HP Color LaserJet 2605dn reboots itself when attempting any report from LCD.  Says Printing, then resets with the green and amber light lit and the LCD screen says Hewlett-Packard.  If I try to send a print job to it from a computer, it says printing, and resets just the same. I've upgraded the firmware to 20071108.  I've rebooted the printer holding down the green and red buttons that didn't help.  I also held down the two gray buttons and powered on which didn't help, it just cleared all my printing stats and cleared my configuration.  I've attempted print jobs via USB, and network with same results.  Admin webpage comes up.  Thanks.

    Hi Pahu,
Thanks for you reply. Here's some additional information because I'm not quite sure how to resolve the network addressing as you described. The router is set up as a DHCP server, using the standard 192.168.1.1 IP address, and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 The starting IP address is 192.168.1.100, and I have it set to allow up to 50 connections. (No particular reason, I think that may have been the default.) The printer is set up to check a variety of connection protocols, starting with DHCP. If that fails, it moves to BOOTP, etc. When I print the network configuraton page from the printer, it tells me the IP address is 169.254.18.32, subnet mask 255.255.0.0, default gateway 169.254.18.32, and the IP is configured by AUTOIP.
In the past, when it has been working properly, the printer shows an IP address of 192.168.1.10X, usually .100 or .101, but it depends on which device I've powered up first. This is what I would expect, given that the printer should be communicating with the router and be assigned an IP address by DHCP. What I can't figure out is why the printer reverts to its internal default IP address 169.254.18.32, and why this is inaccessible even if I try to designate the printer as an IP printer and type in the printer's IP address.
Do I need to set the printer to refresh its DHCP lease more often to ensure it doesn't get cut off by the router? How do I make sure the printer stays on the same subnet as the computers if they're all on the same router? Should I assign the printer a static IP address like 192.168.1.100, then set the DHCP range to start at 192.168.1.101? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm not a network expert and I didn't think this printer would be such a pain to configure.
    Cheers,
    R
