IMac refuses to print to network

My late 2009 21.5 inch iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5 refuses to print to either of two printers on an ethernet network.
In the printing window, it goes through "Looking for printer" and "Connecting to Printer", the progress bar turns blue - but nothing more happens. The printer error log says "the printer is not responding".
Other Macs on the same network print fine.
Here are some of the things I have tried:
. Reinstalled printer software (a Brother HL-5370DW mono laser and Epson Stylus Photo TX810FW)
. Reset printing system
. Reset Brother printer (worked for a day on this iMac but not since, despite further resets)
. Installed completely new, clean system on a separate partition.
. On the network, changed switches, swapped over ethernet cables etc - can see other Macs and transfer files fine, just not print.
. Connected Brother direct to iMac via USB - prints fine.
Is there something else I can try? Could this be a hardware problem - obviously iMac is out of warranty/Applecare? Is there a way to reset ethernet port? I don't know what to try next, and am at the end of my tether having wasted far too much time on this without a solution...

Hmmm... I don't know the printers. One was an old one which printed fine for months (still prints from an old laptop) and the new one is an HP-printer that prints very well on the iMac from which it was borrowed cables and all. (I live appr. 700 km away so I don't always know all the details).
Anyway, the computer is an:
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
128MB VRAM
1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512
250GB Serial ATA Drive
SuperDrive 8X (DVDR-DL/CD-RW)
which still runs Tiger.
Different ports were tried and as far as I know the technician reinstalled the system but maybe returned all the old settings which reinvited the old fault unless it's a hardware thing.
I have fowarded the information above so it will be tried and if nothing changes I think she will try and wipe the disc with a completely new installation tonight, just in case. I told her to install the printer first to see what happens and only then install other things and set things up etc.
I'll be back here soon as I know what happened next.
Thanks anyway,
Yo

  • Intel iMac refuses to print

Hello, last January I bought an iMac for my daughter-in-law. It worked fine. However a couple of weeks ago it printed... printed... stopped and refused to print any more. So she got a technician from an authorized Apple shop who took the computer away, seems to have reinstalled the system and got it to print again. The next day printing gave up again. The technician said he didn't know anything more.
Next she connected and installed a new hp-printer which her husband had got meanwhile and which prints fine on his iMac. Id does nothing on her iMac. She rang support and went through things with them for an hour and a half only to hear that they don't know anything more and she would have to reinstall the system from scratch. I wonder what for if it didn't work for the technician.
So what now? Why don't they offer to look into it via warranty? The machine is less than a year old. What is she to do to get them to do something. She needs the iMac for business and can't really afford this fuss. Do they simply expect you to buy a new one? No... I'm not happy with Apple here. I bought 7 Apple computers in the last couple of years and myde my son buy one as well. And no problems so far. But this time... it is like running against a concrete wall. VERY ennoying.
    What would you do???

  • IMac no longer prints to network printer

I am running OS 10.3.9 on our iMac G4 and it seems that we can no longer print to our networked Brother 1870N laser printer. We execute a print command and the queue opens, the printer wakes up like it normally does to start a job, but then the document gets cleared from the queue (like it would if the job completed) and the printer goes back into its "ready" state without printing anything.
I have deleted & re-added teh printer both as an IP printer and as an AppleTalk printer (which is the way it used to work) but no luck--any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • Riddle:  Printing from iMAC to printer on networked print server

    Here is a Doozy:
I am having trouble printing from my new Intel iMac over a wireless network, through an attached print server.
Here is the layout & issue:
    Configuration:
I have a Windows XP PC & iMac in my office.
I have a wireless network connecting the 2.
On this network & have attached the SimpleShare 250GB network HDD, with print server
I have a Canon Pixma 800 attached via USB to the SimpleShare print server.
    Issue:
The iMAC cannot print out of the printer.
The iMAC searches, finds & installs the printer (name: MP800, puts it in WORKGROUP, with queue of MP800)
It sends the job & says the job is done (looking good!).
I hear the HDD fire up (a couple clicks). But nothing prints out & the printer does not recognize a job was sent to it. (ARGHH!)
    I have:
upgraded to the latest firmware on SimpleShare.
The windows PC prints fine to the printer, through this same configuration.
The iMAC prints fine to the printer when connected directly.
The iMAC reads/writes fine to the HDD itself through the network.
The internet connection works fine through this configuration.
The ONLY issue is getting a print job from the iMAC to the printer.
ANY & ALL help is appreciated, its driving me crazy...

I suspect it may be a driver issue.
It may work with the PrintFab Drivers (but these cost).

  • I have working Netgear network. Want to add new Time Capsule and run 2nd network for new apple TV and Imac, and keep the netgear network for my PC and Canon printer.

I have working Netgear N600 dual band router network. The existing network has an XP netbook PC, canon printer, 2 Iphones, Epson Air printer, an Ipad, 3 roku boxes, backup drive. Just bought a new Apple TV box, and time capsule 2T.  I have an IMac on order but don't have it here yet.
My goal is to add new Time Capsule and create 2nd "apple" network for new apple TV, Iphones, Ipad, Epson Air printer and new Imac, and keep the netgear network for my PC, Roku TV boxes, and Canon printer and backup drive.
The Netgear router, the time capsule and new IMac will be on the same desktop, I dont need to backup my netbook PC to time capsule.
    Where do I start?
Which device connects to my modem first, the TC2 or the Netgear?
Is it best wait for the Imac before starting or can the TC2 be set up from my Ipad or PC?
    Thanks.

    It is pretty simple..
Setup the TC in bridge and plug it into the Netgear.. I would leave the netgear as the main router for now, although in the future you can swap things around. The netgear firmware may have issues with bonjour and airplay/airprint?? Does your ipad print ok now?
You can setup the TC using Mac, PC (at least up to win7) or iOS.. they all have airport utility available.
Bridge mode is set differently depending on the version of the utility. This is v5 and how the windows one will look (at least similar to).
    v6 will be as
With the TC in bridge you will still create a wireless network.. and give it a different name from the netgear.. then all the apple devices can connect to it. Use ethernet rather than wireless if the imac is on the desktop with it. Much faster and better for using Time Machine backups.
If you run into any issues.. just post the particular issue. It will take a bit of getting used to, but isn't hard.

  • New MacPro refuses to print

    Hi guys,
my newly purchased MacPro is refusing to print over the network at my office. We have several Canon copiers, and HP printers, as well as a BestColor Rip powering 2 epson 9600s. For the life of me i can't seem to get this machine to print to any of them. Looking at Cups i see a series of "The process "fierycupsfilter" terminated unexpectedly on signal xx" errors everytime i send something.
I've tried the standard, including permission repairs, reseting the printing system, and have also tried the workaround that fixed the intel imacs, which was to copy the /use/libexec/cups/filter/fierycupsfilter from an older (PPC) machine over to the new box. All to no avail, as i still cannot print.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for me to try? While printing from this machine is not essential (it's the AV production machine), it's incredibly annoying.
TIA for any guidance you may have.

      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Can you tell us what protocols (LPD, IPP, etc?) you've tried? Are they all postscript printers? When you ADD in printer setup, does it find the model (which means it finds a PPD)?
If you tried LPR or IPP, did you enter the printer/RIP's internal queue name in Printer Setup?

  • How to print from  network

I have a printer connected to an Imac, I bought a Macbook pro now also. I can't get the printer to print from the Macbook pro on a network (wireless). I have the Imac set to share and can get it to show up on the Macbook but cannot find the drivers for it. I downloaded the newest drivers from the Canon website and tried again, but it finds the printer but never prints. Do I have to put the entire program from the printer on the Macbook or do I need just the drivers. They do not show up in the list when it asks for the printer drivers. Canon IP6600D,

According to the web site at Canon I see that they released a new driver in November which would be newer than the one that was included in the OS, is this the one you installed?
iP6600D Printer Driver Ver. 4.8.3 (Mac OS X)

    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDeta ilTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=11864#DownloadDetailAct
You need to include more information about your network before someone can help you set it up. "I have an imac I want to share printers with" is not enough info.
Since this is an ip printer I might assume that you have the printer connected via firewire or ethernet to the imac.
The imac is then connected wirelessly to what make and model of wireless router or modem?
Direct connecting the printer to the computer and seeing if the driver is recognized and can print will tell you if you have the right driver.
Trying to set it up in reverse will tell you if it is the wireless network, since the imac obviously can print to the printer and recognizes it.
You can also set up a computer to computer wireless network in the airport menu to see if it is the router.

  • Can't print over network get message "Error Printing" in message Queue

    Hi,
I have 3 machines, xp, vista and windows 7.  I have 2 printers that are configured to print through the network
    1. OfficeJet Pro L7680
    2. PhotoSmart C7180
For all 3 computers I can go to the web configurations for the printers (so I know the network settings are correct).  Windows finds the printer and properly installs the drivers using the TCP/IP network port.
I can only print to the PhotoSmart from the Vista computer.  I can't print from the XP or Windows 7 machine, I can't printer to the OfficeJet Pro from any computer.
Both printers work on all computers via USB port.
when I try to print a test page the job stays in the print queue and gets a message "Error Printing".
The funny part is that the computer can communicate with the printers and get the ink levels no problem.
I have been banging my head on the wall and cannot figure it out.
    Any Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ara

I think I figured it out after torchering my self for weeks.
I had my computers and printers hooked up directly or wireless through a linksys WRT610N router.  I decided to add a linksys switch right after the router and plugged the computer and printers in through the switch and now it works.
This is very strange, there must be somekind of incompatibility with the WRT610N router that is causing the problem, it works but refused to print for some reason.  I tried changing settings in the router but haven't got it to work.
Any clues on what it could have been with the router?
    Thanks,
    Ara

  • HP Deskjet 5550  issues-can't print but iMac definitely recognizes printer!

I recently added my iMac to my network of PC desktop and laptop, supported by a Home Portal (router) and an Airport Express for streaming music from iTunes. Works great! With the new iMac, I cannot get any documents to print, even though the iMac recognizes the printer in the Printer Setup Utility Assistant. The laptop still prints easily via the wireless network to the printer. Apple Tech support has not been helpful. I've downloaded the newest HP drivers for both the iMac and my PC, so everything's up to date. Any suggestions??
iMac Core Duo, 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi,
Can't offer you an answer as I have exactly same problem - did you discover a solution? I currently get a couple of lines of text on printer and then loads of page feeds. If you set up the printer as a hp gimp 550c type then you do get your document printed but its followed by the page feeds, so not much good.
Any further ideas would be gratefully received.

  • New iMac wifi slow on Airport network, not on Fastweb

I just replaced our old iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz, Airport Extreme Card 802.11 a/b/g/n - OS 10.6.8) a new refurbished iMac 27-inch (late 2012) (OS 10.8.4).  The new computer works great, except with wifi - it is painfully slow on our Airport network, even though the old iMac still runs perfectly fast on that network.
We have two wifi networks in our house (in Rome, Italy).  Our internet comes in through the Italian company Fastweb, and its wireless router limits us to only 3 devices.  Both computers have fast internet connectivity when we hook up one (or both) to our Fastweb network (802.11g).  But that's not a good long-term solution because we need our main computer to talk wirelessly with other devices (like our printer and speakers running off an Airport Express booster).
So for the last three years we have also had an Airport base station (802.11n) based off the Fastweb network. We use the Airport network to connect most of our devices (including iMac, MacBooks, printer, iPads, iPhones, and two Airport Extremes -- one for speakers in the next room, and another to boost the signal throughout the house).  For some reason, the new iMac is painfully slow when it connects to our Airport network -- it can take 2 minutes to load a web page on the Airport network, which takes 2 seconds to load on the Fastweb network.  I would've thought that the problem lay with our Airport network, except that it's still plenty fast with our other computers.  The only problem seems to be the new iMac talking to the Airport network.
Could the problem lie with the Airport Extreme card in the new iMac?  It is a refurbished machine, not new.  Should I just be taking the machine into the nearest Apple Store?  We did buy AppleCare . . . .
Thanks very much for any ideas!

  • IMac will not print to a wirelessly connected HP  C7200  on Airport Extreme

I just bought an iMac 24 and an Airport Extreme.
I also have an HP Photosmart C7200 wireless printer.
Both the iMac and the printer communicate with the AE just fine, individually.
I also have a Windows laptop that is wireless.
The laptop can print to the HP printer.
However, when I try to print something from my iMac, I get a message in the print queue window that says the printer is busy. But it is not busy in reality.
The wireless printer has a specific web address. the iMac recognizes the printer and I can even get into the printer's web server and see all of the functions.

iOS devices require AirPrint to print directly to a network printer. That would mean that the printer would need to be AirPrint-Ready. The only other option would be to use something like PrintCentral Pro (as you have) to allow printing. Another software solution would be Printopia and you may find better results using it instead.

  • "Connection refused" while printing

    Hi guys,
We've got weird problem at the office. Windows network printer, hundreds of Windows clients and around 30 Mac clients.
All of a sudden, since last week, one of the macs refused to print. Looking in the logs shows "Connection refused". Simply removing printer and adding it again is resolving problem... until mac is restarted.
The issue occurs only with this one Mac. They all run Mac OS 10.7.
All user credentials are correct and accounts are valid.
I tried removing credentials to the printer from keychain, reseting printing system, to no avail.
Any ideas of troubleshooting would be most apreciated.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • C7280 AIO won't print over network. Was working on WiFi, still works on USB.

My AIO quit printing over the network after 2 years of service. The USB port still prints OK. My Linksys utility still sees the printer, and I even get ink levels back, but print jobs are hung up in the queue with status 'Error - Printing'.  I tried a wired ethernet connection and got the same result, so it's not a wireless problem, but rather networking in general. The network report indicates everything is normal, but I still can't print. I re-installed the driver but that didn't work.
I am running Vista, and the printer had been working fine till two weeks ago. My wife would use the USB port to print, and she said she got updates for the printer. HP doesn't distribute f/w updates for the printers themselves, does it? It's as if the networking f/w in the printer got hammered.

    No joy.
I'm connected with Ethernet port. I have disabled the firewall. The IP address matches on the printer's network status report, and on the Printer dialog box on the computer. I can see that the printer is connected when I run a Linksys utility. I can get the ink levels and I can print an alignment page.
But I can't print a document. About 60 seconds after I initiate the print job, the status changes from 'Printing' to Error - Printing'.
I clearly have connectivity, but something is preventing me from sending a document. Any ideas to try, or tests to run?
I think the same behavior occurs in wireless mode, but I think I have a better chance with a wired connection right now. As I said, USB works OK.
    Thanks,
    SWW
