IMac remote for MBP

I have an iMac which came with a remote. We hardly use the remote for the mac but would like to use it for the MBP. Would the remote from the mac work for the MBP (I bought it on Christmas Eve)?
If so, how do I pair it?

    Hi guy,
I have not used my imac remote for a while, probably 2 months, so i have no idea to trace the root of the problem but it is dead atm. Nothing happens when i click Menu,Forward,Backward,Up/Down Volumn key, Stop/Play.
I wonder is it a hardware or software issue ?

  • Logic Remote for iPad always gets disconnected from paired iMac..?

    Hello,
I recently downloaded GarageBand 10.0.0 and Logic Remote for the iPad, the thing is, it only stays connected when:
    (1) GarageBand does not have any open projects or
    (2) When the project is about to be closed, as the user is being prompted to: "Don't Save", "Cancel" or "Save"
I know Logic Remote connects to the Mac I am using since it tells me to open a project first, then right after I open a project,
    logic remote always tells me
"The connection to <computer name> was lost. Please select the Mac you wish to connect to"
The app then tries to reconnect and reconnect, but nothing happens.
By accident, as I tried to close the project in the Mac, whose snapshot is attached in this posting:
the app then is able to remotely control garageband...
When I cancel the project closing, the problem persists...
This actually renders the app useless...
Have you guys encountered this situation.?

I am experiencing the identical problem as janjerick.
    To reproduce the problem:
    1) On iMac OS 10.9, Launch Garageband 10.0  - choose Empty Project.  Created a "software instrument" track.
    2) On iPad, Launch Logic Remote 1.02  and select the hosting iMac computer.
    3) Connection seemed to come up on the iPad, then prompty goes away.  "The connect to <host> was lost".
    4) The connection doesn't come back... UNTIL I try to dismiss the project on iMac Garageband. The instant I get the "Do you want to save the document" dialog -- Boom!  The Logic Remote connection is established.  And then the Logic Remote seems to be able to control Garageband (while the 'Do you want to save the document' dialog is in the foreground on Garageband.).   But as soon as I try to go back into a project on Garageband, the connection is lost.
Here's the kicker: I also have Logic Pro X on the same iMac and the "Logic Pro" remote app is working PERFECTLY with that.  But as soon as I flip back to Garageband, no go.
    Anyone else?

  • IMac Remote Code for DishTV Remote

    Hi All,
I am using a new iMac as TV monitor via the EyeTV Hybrid input. Everything is working well except that I need to program my Dish remote to control the volume of my iMac.
Before I embark on the lengthy code discovery process, does anyone happen to know what the Dish remote programming code is for the iMac monitor?
    TIA,
    Josh

Unfortunately, if you use all of the given device codes as well as the code search option, then you've pretty much gone through every code in the remote. There are over 300 codes, so you could try again in case you accidentally bypassed the correct code. There's also the possibility that the remote is defective, but if you have no trouble controlling other devices, then that makes it less likely.
If you have a 2nd remote for a 2nd STB you could try that and see if the trouble replicates. If you don't have a 2nd remote, you can obtain a replacement remote through the In Home Agent on your PC or Set Top Box. It can be downloaded here:
    http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/inhomeagent/?CMP=DMC-CV090262
Try the setup with the 2nd remote, and failing that, then it just means the remote does not hold a code for that device. I realize the 2 devices are from the same manufacturer, but they are 2 separate products, produced for 2 different services. Any question as to why the 2 are not compatible would have to be directed toward Philips.

  • Using a g drive external portable for MBP for an iMac

My Lacie that backs up my iMac is full. I usually just replace one with another, but I have a G Drive 500 GB Portable for MBP I don't use anymore. Can I attached that to an iMac? The iMac is not crucial to my life as my MPB is. Question really is: an external, is an external, is an external drive.  Correct? And it's perfectly OK to use an external drive, portable or not with an iMac.
    Thanks for any help.

Yes your assumption is correct, you can use the external drive with your iMac even though it's a portable drive.

  • DVD Remote for iMac?

Is there such a thing as a DVD remote for the iMac? I know I can use the Apple remote to control volume and play & pause the DVD but I'm looking for something that can navigate me through the menus without me having to be at the computer. Is there such a thing?

    Good result.
It looks like you have a much newer iMac that the ones covered in this forum. This area is for the older ones with an articulated display arm and the white domed base. They look like this:

Looks like yours is Intel, and the Intel iMac forum is here:

If responders here don't realize you have a newer model iMac, you could get some bad troubleshooting or repair advice.

  • Remote for Presentations...

My MacBook doesn't recognize the standard Bluetooth remotes used in our PC-laden lecture halls to control PowerPoint. None of the tech people know anything about a "Passkey" that Bluetooth Setup suggests I might need. (The remotes operate via a USB Bluetooth adapter plugged into the PC. I haven't tried plugging it into my MacBook.)
    1. Anyone know that there is an obvious something I am missing trying to get the remote to work with my MacBook?
    2. Any recommendations on a good remote for the MacBook? I need something to control presentations, mostly, either PowerPoint or Keynote.
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Original iMac still in use.

Hey, you're right. It works great, even as I walked around the MacBook.
I was trying to be sensitive about not wasting anyone's time here. And I know I checked the Apple remote on PowerPoint. (Checked it again; it doesn't work.) Thought I had on Keynote. Sorry about that.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • How do I access my iMac remotely when working away from the office?

I work away from the office for much of the time.  How can I access my iMac remotely?

Unless this is critcal for some reason I would not do this.  Unless you understand all the techinolticcal pit falls you can leave your computer dangerusly exposed doing this.  If you are not technical your best bet is going to be to get a wireless router with built in VPN support ($200 - $500) to give you a secure connection home.  And then you will need the Apple Remote Desktop app ($90 I think) and even then it will only work if your work compute is also a Mac.  There are probably other comerial apps that will let you remote into your Mac desktop on windows but will probably be in the $200 price range.

  • A 20" imac or 15"mbp?

I'm about to place an order for a mac and im undecided which one 20"imac or 15"mbp . I do photo retouching. as far as portability it does not matter i willl be happy with either. can i get some help.
    thanx

It really comes down to what meets your needs. Since portability isn't important to you, the main consideration may be that you get a bigger screen with the 20" iMac. I can't tell you what you should do, but I can explain why I have both a G5 tower & a MacBook Pro (replacing a 15" PowerBook just a week ago). I don't use the 'Book daily & I don't travel a lot (mostly an annual trip to Macworld in San Francisco), so many would question the need for a portable. Living in an area where power outages lasting 24-30 hours happen a time or two a year, I can take my 'Book to one of the county libraries connect to their wireless network. I take it to meetings to take notes, to my user group where we use it for demos, etc. Once you have a portable, you'll wonder how you lived without one. I still use my G5 & 23" monitor most of the time, for the "extra real estate" for doing newsletters & anything else that is easier to work on spread out.

  • Keeping imac on for numerous days straight.

I use my elgato eye tv to record tv shows and then I convert it to ipod format so that I can watch it on my ipod video. However, converting numerous tv shows takes a while so I leave my imac on overnight quite often. My question is: Is it harmful to the imac if you keep it on running, for example, 3 days straight? I usually keep it on overnight but when I wake up I just jump right back on it and dont shut it down. And when I get back to bed I do the same thing. I check the temp of the cpu and it never really goes over 63.7 C. Just wondering so I know im not harming my computer in the long run because I've been doing it for quite a while now.

Danny, according to the G5 20" iSight Manual, page 9:
"When you have finished working with your iMac G5, you can put your computer to sleep or shut it down.
If you will be away from your iMac G5 for less than a few days, put the computer to sleep. When your iMac G5 is in sleep, it's screen is dark & a small white light below the lower-right corner of the display pulsates. You can quickly wake your iMac G5 & bypass the startup process."
    On page 10:
"If you will not be using your iMac G5 for more than a few days, shut it down."

  • Previously installed Aperture3 on an iMac and a MBP. I Bought a new MBA to replace the MBP and I want to install Aperture3 on the new MBA.  The installer says the serial code is invalid? What do I do?

I previously bought Aperture 3 and installed in on an iMac and a MBP.  I just bought a new MBA to replace the MBP, but the MBA doesn't have enough memory for me to do a complete restore of the MBP on the MBA.  So I am trying to find a way to deactivate the serial code or Aperture 3 on the MBP so I can reinstall Aperture 3 on the MBA.  I have been searching forums and google and I have not been any answers.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

How did you buy Aperture? Did you buy it from the App Store? Then you can download it again on your MBA, if you sign into the App Store.
If you bought Aperture buy buying a licence key to unlock the trial, try if this download link for the trial version still works: if yes, you can unlock it with your serial number:
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Aperture/061-8328 .20101020.AprE3/ApertureTrial3.1.dmg
And if you own the boxed DVD installer , use the DVD to install Aperture on your MBA. If the installer does not work - and you get the message
"check with the developer to make sure Aperture works with this version of Mac OS X"
you may have a problem with an expired developer certificate (they expired mid march).
To fix this, set the Date  in " SystemPreferences -> Date&Time" to a date well before March 2012 and run the Installer again. If that succeeds and Aperture now runs, reset the date to the current date.
You can see your serial number in the "About" panel in the main Aperture menu bar on your MBP:
    Aperture > About Aperture.
For the "invaldid serial number" see these links: You may have read the letters incorrectly - some are look alike, "1" or "I", "0" or "O"; your shift-lock key may be set.

Mac book pro verses iMac (intel) for streaming video (skpying) which one would you recommend?

Neither one is particularly advantageous. Streaming video will take a considerable amount of power, meaning you'll probably want to keep a MBP's power adapter connected.
