Imac reseller query

Hi, my imac got recalled because of the 1tb seagate HD issue. I think the reseller has dropped the imac or something as they told me there was a "pixel" problem with the screen and they have replaced it free of charge, without contacting me. Is this normal ?
Should I accept the machine back ?   I am concerned if it was dropped maybe there is damage/degrading inside ?

Hi, tough to tell, but they do run extensive tests after any replacement, so I think I'd be happy about the free extra replacement.
If under warrantee, they should replace any defect they find, not just one thing.

  • Windows iPod Photo Transfer to new iMac G5 Query

    Hi,
I have a 40 GB iPod Photo that is fortmated for use with a PC using Windows Pro.
I have over 28 GB data or tracks on it, and i now wish to use it with my new iMac G5 that I have just purchased.
The thing is I dont know how to go about doing this, because I am concerned that if I copnnect it to my iMac G5, iTunes will remove all of the music that is already on my iPod, and I cannot have that happen, as It would take me forever to copy them to CDrom and then timport them into the iMac, I gues it would probably take me all of the Christmas and new year that way, and I have no idea if that would work poperly anyway.
Can anyone advise me how I can achieve my move over to the Apple computer please, without loosing my music. Once this is done I will not be wanting to connect it to my PC again. My iPod Photo is also set to 'Disc Mode' in iTunes so that I can see it as a drive in Windows if this is of any help.
Hope someone here can help or advise me.
    Thanks In Advance

    Nick,
As far as the Maxtor drive is concerned, I have kept it formatted as a NTFS Windows drive because OS X can read it without any problems at all, and apparently, according to Maxtor's web-site, if I format it as a Mac drive then it will not be recognised by the Windows system, and that I would have to partition it above 32MB!
So, I have purchased a Belkin Wireless Cable Router (it works with ADSL as well) for about 40 UK pounds. This I have connected to my Win XP machine with an Ethernet cable, and I now access both my 10MB Broadband cable connection and my Win XP machine on the iMac via the Airport Extreme wireless connection.
It was extremely (forgive the pun) easy to set-up, and took about 40 minutes from start to finish and that's only because the Windows machine crashed once, but after that it was just fine.
If you can, I would consider going for the Ethernet/Router way because it gives you access to both machines and Internet connections as well as printer and scanner sharing.
So if you wan't to know anything else, just let me know and I will do my best to explain.
Hope you had a good Christmas and Happy New year!

  • 24" iMac Brightness Query

First of all, I must say that I am ecstatic with the arrival of my refurbed 24" iMac. It arrived in perfect condition and is working flawlessly. Whoever owned this previously must have taken very good care of it or not used it at all. Or it may have been a demo.
My question is this: Is there some app that will dim the monitor down further than is possible with the built-in monitor dimmer?
I have the monitor dimmed down as far as I can, but it is still too bright for my eyes. White backgrounds just seem to glare from the brightness. My old 17" PB seemed way too dim to me, but this new iMac is extremely bright for my eyes.
    Thanks,
    Phillip Anthony

Yes, Photoshop is very important to me, meaning that a correct monitor color profile is very important for all the obvious reasons.
When I selected Color I was surprised to see an 'Adobe RGB' auto setting. I chose this and the monitor got lighter yet. Not what need, but I left it as such.
We uprights, it seems, are never happy with what we have.
Just ran across this bit of info:
"The reason apple limits the brightness is because the lighting on a flat display such as that of an iMac or laptop is that if too little power is supplied to the light it will become damaged ... "
And this may be of some help as well and it's free to boot:

    Thanks again.

  • How to restore IMAC 2006 2.0 intel core duo to resell?

I have an old 2006 IMAC 2.0 intel core that I want to resell as I just upgraded to a new IMAC.  How do I erase the entire computer and install for new user?

    Prepare Your Mac for Sale
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer.  After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.  After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab.  Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button.  Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button.  Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive.  If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive.  The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive.  After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Now complete the OS X installation.  At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer.  Instead just shut it off.  The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.

I have installed CC in my IMac. Now 4 trial days left. Is it possible to make my trial version to licensed one without the help of a reseller, by purchasing the software direct from Adobe?

That depends on where you live... not all countries allow you to buy direct... with ZERO country information, nobody can answer your question... what happens when you try to buy direct from Adobe?

  • IMac hard drive failure query

Hello, my IMac harddrive has failed (bought in 2008). I have managed to copy my photos, music, documents etc onto an external HD (using Linux as my Mac boot disks were not having any effect).
My question is, can anyone tell me what other info I should copy before reformatting and wiping the hard drive? Eg would I need to copy over Itunes settings, photshop shortcuts etc? and how would I do this?
I was only running Leopard so I guess nothing is in the cloud.
    Any advice gratefully appreciated..
    Thanks!

    Ignore. I misread 2008 as 2009.
See HD replacement program. Do note that the program goes to at least 12 APR 13,

  • General upgrading query of iMac G5 1.6ghz 17" OS 10.4.11

    hi
ive just purchased my first iMac as above for my son as his 1st desktop.
im in the process of upgrading the RAM to 2gb and looking into purchasing Leopard 10.5.
could anyone advise whether there are any other 'home' upgrades i can carry out to maximise this unit's potential for online use in 2012? and whether these 2 initial upgrades should give noticeable increase in performance to warrant the spend? i do have an iPhone4 and wish to use this unit for connection via iTunes.
he currently likes to play online games such as 'Minecraft' and we have found it very slow so far...the unit does have the Airport wireless card installed, no bluetooth though.
    many thanks for any advice.

Upgrading the RAM and the OS will certainly help performance, the highest you can go is 10.5.8 and you will also have maxed out the memory.  For a real speed boost, you need to get an intel machine and install Lion.

  • HT1349 In Miami 2 wks ago I purchased iMac 21.5 desktop. Several employees confirmed official apple reseller in Ecuador, Now Im here & there is none. ??so my concerns about purchasing a desktop having tech service-repair should not concern me.

After purchasing extended warranty as well, I now find myself with a very non portable computer in a country in South America that has no backup tech support for my new unit.  I would not have purchased this model had I  not venn told by serveral salesmen and one teacher that there was an official Apple Reseller in Ecuador so I had back up for technical or repair issues.
Now that I am already in Ecuador, returning or exchanging the unit is impossibe, and I have no technical back up. I am furious, and need to know who at Apple will take responsibility for the misleading info given to me be several Apple experts at the company Apple Store ibn Miami

There are a number of authorized Apple resellers and service centers in Ecuador:

Hi guys. I'm the proud new owner of a sixth generation Pioneer 43" Plasma Screen (http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/home_entertainment/plasmadisplaypanel/pdp436hd/inde x.html).
I was wondering if there was ANY way in ALL **** to hook my iMac G5 (Rev A) to it. And if so, would it be suicide? (Be horrible.)
Thanks for your help. I suck at connections and HDMI etc.

looks to me like you can connect to this with either a vga adapter or an s-video adapter.
both of these are available from apple:(you might have got one of these with the computer)

  • IMac G5 20" (iSight) Modem Query - Will Apple USB Work?

Hi, I have a cable broadband connection on my iMac G5, but of course I cannot send a fax via broadband. I bought the computer for Christmas (missed the Intel Mac – sore subject) and was surprised to find no modem was included. All the magazines I had been reading before hand all implied or stated that ALL Apple computer came with an internal modem - not in this one so it turns out. But they do include the fax software!
I only want a modem for sending and receiving the occasional fax each week, and I have been reading the various posting here regarding the problems other manufactures modems throw up (if you can find one that supports Mac and OS X 10) and also the problems the Apple USB Modem has with some iMacs.
What I want to know is what is the Apple USB Modem like, is it really very bad, or will it suffice for Faxing, as I don’t not wish to use it for a Dialup connection?
    All help and advice appreciated.
    Drusus

To set it up, you just plug it in and go to system prefs>print and fax>faxing and enter your fax number.
Yes, you can leave it set up all the time. Just make sure that in system prefs>network, airport is above it in the list. You can even be connected to the internet both ways at once (but not to the same ISP). I keep my airport connection when I log onto my aol dialup account.
EDIT Faxing is just like faxing--you can fax anything you'd fax via a regular fax machine. I do a lot of faxing so I use PageSender, but in Tiger you can just bring up the print dialog like you want to print it, click the PDF button and choose "fax PDF", enter where it's going and send it.

  • Query about best way to rebuild an iMac

I have a 3.06Ghz 24" 2007 iMac which has been running particularly slowly over recent months. It also crashes/freezes about 4 or 5 times a week which is particularly frustrating. I have tried a number of things to fix it (mostly fiddling about with the software - disabling, removal, reinstallation etc) but to no avail.
Anyway, this post is about my next steps. I'm thinking that I should rebuild the system (thought I left that behind when I switched ) and wondered what the current thinking about that is. I have a Time Machine which has the system backed up and I also thought of imaging the hard drive in its current state on an external drive so that I can boot from it if needs be and as a minimum, attach it to copy over 'old' files.
Using the Migration Assistant I can rebuild the system in more than one way
    1. Total rebuild - doesn't sound like a good idea as I'll be back where I started
    2. Apps + Users - also not so good since that might reinstate some application weirdness?
    3. Users - sounds safe (ish).
So I need to trade off effort involved vs confidence in a rebuilt system, but I'm not that familar with the details of how all this works to make that decision. Any well informed pointers or advice?
    Thanks in advance...

you've reinstalled OS X, and tried testing in a new user account w/o any speed improvement ?
Verified/repaired the disk after booting from the install dvd ?
run the apple hardware test (just in case) ?
anything useful in the kernel panic (?) logs
Think I'd try it out first after an erase/install, then move onto Users.

  • Apple Care with iMac query

When I get an iMac, I'm planning on taking out the Apple Care cover.
    I live in the UK.
When I have needed service on my iPad (3rd gen) which has Apple Care cover, I'm given three options, one is take to an Apple Store, two is Apple will send me out a pre paid package to place the iPad in for to then return to Apple for repair or three the Express Replacement Service.
I use the Express Replacement Service, which means I get a replacement iPad sent out to me and receive it with 2 working days.
Now I was wondering, are the three above service options still provided with Apple Care cover on the iMac?
And also what are the service options with Apple Care cover with the iMac?
I don't want to take the Apple Care cover out on the iMac if its reliant on me taking the iMac into an Apple Store for service, has the nearest Apple Store to me is a 180 mile round trip.
    Thanks in advance

    Regards.
Thanks very much for the help its much appreciated.
So my repair options would be:
1: Take into an Apple Store (which wouldnt be possible in my case has its a 180 mile round trip to my nearest Apple Store)
2: The Direct Mail in service. Which I assume is where Apple sends me out a pre paid box for me to place my iMac in, which would then get returned to Apple for repair or if repair was not possible, replacment. Is this correct?
    Thanks again.
