IMac responds to power-up with "beep-beep-beep-pause" repeat.

When I push the power button to power up my iMac (early 2009; 24"/2.66GHz/4GB) it responds with a series of beeps with the pattern of "beep-beep-beep-pause" and repeats until I power it down. The fan turns on, but I can't detect any other response. Does anyone know what this means?
Thanks...

So iMacs no longer beep?  They tone now?   I gather I'm reading that Article correctly.

    My 27" iMac 3.2 i7, 20GB RAM won't start. Emits 3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps, pause.

Here's a link to an Apple support page that describes the possible Startup tones.
Mac computers: About startup tones - Apple Support
The short answer is here. Looks like your RAM is bad.
1 tone, repeating every 5 seconds: This indicates no RAM is installed.
3 successive tones, a 5 second pause (repeating): This indicates RAM does not pass a data integrity check.
1 long tone while holding down the power button: Indicates an EFI ROM update is in progress on a computer manufactured before 2012.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones: Indicates EFI ROM corruption is detected and the computer is in EFI ROM recovery mode.

  • My PSC 6180 interrupts power up with a beep and restarts again. Rinse, wash, repeat

This is a cycle problem ONLY with the printer.  My Mac is not connected.  The PSC 6180 interrupts its power up with a beep and restarts again.  This repeats over and over.  When it starts, it flashes the HP screen, then the On button blinks.  Sometimes, it gets as far as a dialog box that 'not turned off properly" and whether or not I push OK, it restarts; sometimes it gets as far as blinking the ordinaly menu screen for a second or two and then goes off and restarts.  .
One clue is that when I yank the power, wait 10 minutes and plug back in, it immediately starts the startup cycling - when normally it should wait for me to hit the On switch.
Is there any way to reset this printer other than the power off that I've already tried?

Searching elsewhere I found keyboard startup combination that resets the printer.  The one that seems to work for a while on my PSC 6180 is holding down "OK" and "Help" buttons when connecting the printer to power.  After humming awhile, the printer turns off, i.e. stops cycling, and when I power it on, it prints!  Unfort, this doesn't seem to last long - when I was first successful, to reconnect to wifi, I put in our wifi psk pw (not easy).  But soon after, it started cycling again.  I reset again, and for the moment it is working.

I tried to change the memory and now my Imac will not power on. and there are no beeps. what did I do wrong?

Don't know.  Could be any number of reasons.  Re-read the how to install RAM manual again for your model iMac.  Double & triple check to make sure you purchased the right RAM chips.   Make sure they are seated properly.  If you didn't hear a snap when seated, the RAM is not properly seated.

  • TD230 does not power on with the following "beep" codes

    TDS230

    4 x Raptor 10k RPM's
The system fans do not spin up (PSU, cooling, Cpu etc).
Amber front board system indicator - I can find no exeplanation of the codes in the documentation.
    The codes are:
1 beep pause 5 beeps pause 4 beeps pause 4 beeps
    Attempted Fixes:
Checked all jumpers - note that lenovo's diagrams do not match jumber palcement and some jumpers have the white  triangle (denoting PIN 1) in the opposite direction of the docuementation.
    Removed HD's
Reseated, swapped and tested 1 CPU at  time.
Removed/replaced ram to see if code changed.
The lan port does show activity and the the PSU shows the green indicator.

  • IMac G4 Flat Panel 1Ghz - 1 beep when turning it on.

I have an iMac G4 Flat Panel 1Ghz that beeps once when you turn it on. After doing some research, I learned the 1 beep could be no RAM or RAM problem. I replaced both the internal RAM and the easily accessible RAM with RAM from a reputable dealer that markets this RAM just for iMac G4s. I still get one beep after startup. I tried taking one stick out and all variations of using the old and new RAM with no difference. I did more research that maybe it was the power supply. By the way, originally this iMac was shocked through its Ethernet port with lightning. I since bought a new motherboard, new RAM as stated, and now also the power supply. After putting it all together, I still get one beep at startup. I have reset the PMU also. Also added a new battery. Looking forward to your suggestions.

There may be some indication of the beep's cause after some thorough
testing of the computer with some utility software; perhaps even the basic
Apple Hardware Test which would have accompanied the computer when
new could be helpful to some degree, if the machine were run in that, in a
long continuous loop to see if at some point, it may generate some codes.
However, the startup sequence itself is where such a hopeful bit of information
would more likely be generated; and this is the kicker, in that some of the info
at start-up is too early in the beginning of the run-cycle to be recorded or read.
But, you may find evidence of the issue in the Console error message reports
in that utility; and there are a few different sub-titles of places in Console to look.
Also, you may be able to find some error or crash messages, or other runtime
messages and glitches, in the System Profiler> Software> progression path.
There may be another source of the single-beep on startup tone. Not sure of
any other, though; since the Power-on self-test is generally what checks out
those computers on start-up. And the 'single beep' suggests there is a RAM
issue, as this Beep would replace the normal startup chime.
So, that early in the startup, and without a booted system, the error logs or
crash and failure reports would not be generated to be read later.
Is the computer you have really a 20" LCD and does it truly have a 1GHz
CPU? Or, does it have a 1.25GHz PPC processor, as it should? Did the
company you obtained the replacement logic board from, have anything
to say about the kinds of issues you've noted the computer displaying?
There may have been a limited duration warranty on the rebuilt board.
There have been a few of the old iMac G4 17" & 20" 1.25GHz models
generating an odd, single 'buzz' sound after the normal startup tone.
Is your's making a 'single beep' or a 'buzz' sometime after booting?
Do you have any other RAM chips of correct supported version to
replace one or both RAM slots, of reliable quality product? How was
the OS installed into the computer, or have you been unable to do so?
Once in a great while, new correct RAM could be bad on arrival. Rare.
    {This is a lot like chasing gremlins or setting a trapline for gnomes.}
Maybe someone, such as the contributor alias 'spudnutty' may know of
some other factor in this matter that he has found, that may cause that.

Three beeps at startup almost always indicate bad RAM. You probably need to get your RAM replaced. Bring it in to Apple for a definitive diagnosis if you are unable to run the Apple HardwareTest

  • Can GarageBand create a track with beeps at specified intervals?

    Hi everyone,
Can I use GarageBand09 to do the following:
Create an mp3 with beeps (or ticks, or strums or whatever) at specified time intervals:
for the first minute every 6 seconds, the second minute every 5.7 seconds, the third every 5.4 seconds, etc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am not a regular user of GarageBand.
    Thanks in advance!

Sure. Create a real instrument track with an instrument that does the beep you want, set the ruler to display real time (instead of musical time) and put the notes wherever you want them. Once you have two or three notes with the regular spacing, you can copy and paste them as a group, and so on, so you won't have to place every single note where it belongs.
