IMac Retina 5K (2015) with 1xTDM iMac (2011) and 1x Dell External Display possible?

I have 1 x 27" iMac Retina 5K (2015), 1 x 27 " iMac (mid 2011) and a Dell P2715Q. I'd like to know if it's possible to run the 2011 iMac in Target Display Mode and my Dell as a secondary display from my 2015 iMac? My desired configuration is the 2015 iMac running two external displays. The 2015 iMac has an AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB Gfx card and both iMacs are running Yosemite 10.10.1
I have verified that running the 2011 iMac only via TDM works. Also running the Dell as an external Display only works (either at 4K resolution or the same resolution as the external iMac (2560x1440) via SwitchResX). With the Dell running @ 2560x1440, trying to put the 2011 iMac into TDM, causes a slow grey screen, then some display artefacts when coming out of TDM. Going in and out again appears to refresh the screen. But it doesn't seem to work.
I was wondering if anyone else has a similar configuration working and if so what settings or configuration changes to make?
Thanks!

I stopped by the Apple Store yesterday, and they were nice enough to try the Screen Sharing solution with me.
Indeed, we were able to share the screen of a MacBook Pro and display it on the iMac Retina 5K over a Thunderbolt Bridge network. (should also work over WiFi)
As I expected, (based on the native resolutions) the MBP window maxed out at about 55-60% of the height and width of the 5K display.
I didn't try experimenting with lower resolutions on the 5K.
I'd actually be OK with that solution except as we increased the font sizes, (e.g. 48 pt) we noticed a *lot* of ghosting around the characters.
I will have to try it again at normal font sizes and decide if that is something I can work with all day long.
Otherwise, I am leaning towards buying last year's iMac, which kinda' grates me the wrong way.
Thanks,
n8

  • HT3924 Using  a 27-inch iMac (Mid 2012) as an external display?

As I have been using MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Air (Mid 2011) for business purpose, I wanna use them working at home.
I really expected that there was new cinema display with Retina display, but there wasn't. However, New iMac looks really nice & I would love to buy it.
But Using a 27-inch iMac(Mid 2012) as an external display is one of my important required function to buy it.
What do you think? is a 27-inch iMac (Mid 2012) able to use target display mode?

there's a lot of misinformation so far here. Yes you can use all the 27-inch iMacs as external displays.
    However there a few problems.
2009-2010 27-inch iMacs can only work with Apple computers that have the Mini-DisplayPort.
2011-2012 21-inch and 27-inch iMacs can only work as a display with Macs that have thunderbolt ports.
so as long as your 2011 MBA has thunderbolt, the new one will do fine. your 2010 MBP will not be able to use the iMac as a display.

Can I use my 27"iMac late 2009 as an external display for a non apple product such as a cable box?

To get TV on your iMac off the cable box you would need to use an external TV tuner device such as the company ElGato is highly regarded for.  I have used one of their EyeTV products for many years with my iMac to watch television shows from my Comcasst cable TV box.  You can look at the models here:

    Hello,
If you're in a country where there's an apple shop (unfortunately not mine), go check it and ask the employee about it: he's gonna check your Iphone on a "device"
I've got an iphone 5 and it's working very well with me but I have to admit that its battery lasts (slower) than my Ipad 2.
Still i can help with some tips that may improve your iohone's battery by an hour in addition (hopefully):
    - close all apps by multitasking....
    - do NOT keep the brightness to the max
Believe me you're gonna regret changing your phone to a samsung
Hope i've helped and sorry for my bad english (has english as 3rd language)

  • Help: 2011 imac 27" won't detect External Display connected via thunderbolt to HDMI

I have an 2011 imac 27" and I'm trying to connect an Acer 23" monitor as an external display. I'm using a miniDV(thunderbolt) to hdmi cable. For some reason the computer is unable to detect the display. However when I reboot into windows via bootcamp, the display is detected and works perfectly.. Any way to force thunderbolt to detect this?

Well, weird outcome... I took the monitor back and exchanged it for a better model, better brand. The thunderbolt to hdmi cable works fine with this new monitor in osx. Thanks again..

  • Compatibility between my 2 1/2 year old Imac 24" and an 30" Cinema Display?

I have the Imac 24", 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo with a ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic card with 256MB VRAM. I will be buying a 2 year old apple Cinema display 30" tomorrow from a colleague and would like to know that my IMAC can easily handle supporting this display at its normal resolution and have a crisp and correct image on the larger screen. I know that this older version of the Alu Imac has the older video out display port, but I presume I can convert it to attach to this 2 year old screen as well.
My ancillary question is about an older screen. As long as there are no dead pixels and the colors seem uniform, what is the degradation of an average screen like this over time with, lets say, average usage.Don't want to buy something near the end of it's life cycle or when things start to fade.
    Thank you

I believe your graphics card does support Dual-link DVI which is need to drive the 30" Apple Cinema Display at it's native resolution of 2560x1600. Check your owner's manual to be sure.
    http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-2000/hd-2600/Pages /ati-radeon-hd-2600-gpu-specs.aspx
As for the longevity of this two year old screen: I never owned a 30" Apple screen but I have a 23" Apple Cinema HD Display (1920x1200) that is over six years old and going strong. If the monitor you want to buy looks good to you now, it's probably going to give you good service in the future. Is there still a three year warranty (AppleCare( on the two year old monitor?

  • IMac G5 and a Dell 3000cn printer

I'm having problems getting my in-law's iMac G5 and a 3000cn Dell printer to connect properly. I found some info from other a couple other threads as quoted below:
Have a look at these two webpages :
    http://acm.cwru.edu/pipermail/sigmac-talk/2005-February/001462.html
    http://www.macosx.com/content/faq.php/q2969/Dell-3000cn-Printer.html
If I were you, I would just send back the Dell printer and get a new one. If your really want Dell, there's the 3100cn, that is Mac-compatible (because it supports Adobe's PostScript 3). But there are many other models available.
The other option, as Dell printers are simply re-branded OEM printers, would be to find the original manufacturer of the printer, and download the proper drivers for this one (if they offer Mac drivers).
    and this:
The Dell 3000cn supports the PCL 5e and 6 printer control languages. Therefore, a simple way to get this printer working might be to try using the "LaserJet 6 series - Gimp-Print" driver built into MacOS 10.4.
So I got it to work printing in greyscale using the Gimp-Print method, but no color. There is no chance of returning this printer, so I need some help finding a 'fix' of sorts. (Or the direction to buy a printer if absolutely necessary)
    Thanks in advance.

Make sure that your modem has an Ethernet output.
Usually the default settings of the router are all you need.
Any wireless router will do what you want.

  • Portege R700 with docking can't switch automatically to external display

    Hi!
In the past we bought a lot of A600, S10, R500, and we bought always a docking for each laptop here in Desjardins.
Now we have a little problem with the new R700 Model: PT318C-00G001,
    We bought 30 of them.
WHY when we put it on the docking (with the screen close) it can't display/switch automaticaly to the external display? (here a 22inc LCD)
It is plug with the HDMI/DVI cable. And when we get the display on by ajusting in the intel graphic and media control panel (V 6.14.10.5258), after a reboot out of the docking the screen is all buzzy.... sometime the two screen are dark, and we must use some key combinaison to switch.
It is really not user friendly for our user.....
With the older model like the A600 or S10, all have always worked well, if we are on the dock, the screen pop right on the LCD external display, if I shut it down, ondock it and boot it up all is alright on the laptop's screen.
we are on Windows XP Pro SP3.
I tried the Toshiba display device change utility and the Toshiba Mobile extension. wich are not more clear...
    Thanks for your help.

Did you install a Vanilla version of Windows? Or was XP installed from the Toshiba Recovery Disc?
Maybe you are missing some important drivers (common modules for example). Also ensure you are using the Display Drivers from the Toshiba Website.
Also try a BIOS Update (v1.70 is the latest I think).

  • Have a still folder with a question mark and OS on external HDD isn't loading onto the Mac Pro

Good Morning....... I'm having an issue with this Mac Pro I've recently purchased that came with an 500GB HDD and I added an 2TB HDD also, but it never had an OS on it and when you power on the Mac Pro, you'll get a still folder with a question mark on it. I am very determined to get this situation corrected!!! I had got a copy of Snow Leopard on a blank DVD from a friend of mine but nothing had changed or occurred when I put it in the optical drive & I even saved Maverick installation on an external HDD; it read the drive when I held down the option key during the startup chime, I choose the external because that’s the only volume it shown on the screen; nothing else!!! No sign of the copied disk, the two HDDs that's in the Mac Pro, just the external HDD with the OS on it; I choose the external with Maverick on it but it still doesn't read and then a still folder with the question mark appears..... Can someone please help & save me PLEASE?????????

Buy a retail copy of Snow Leopard, then we can "chat" and get you with a system installed.

  • 2011 MBP freezing on external display in fullscreen

Hey all, had my 15" MBP for a few days now, and I'm experiencing a strange issue. When I have it connected to an external display and am playing a game (Starcraft II, EVE Online) or watching a video in fullscreen (Hulu, etc.) it will sometimes freeze and cause the computer to be completely unresponsive, forcing me to shut it down by holding the power button. However, audio will keep playing in the background. I'm using a miniDisplay port to VGA adapter and outputting to an HDTV. Ideas/comments/suggestions? I'm sure with using a new CPU and new GPU there are some driver issues to work out, just want to make sure it isn't more than that.

After doing some more tests of my own, I'm convinced that this is a driver issue. This kind of thing is common when a company releases a new GPU and CPU in the same model. (In this case the 6750M and Sandy Bridge i7) Correct me if I'm wrong, but each of you have either the top spec 15" or the 17" model, yes? By now, I guarantee Apple is aware of the issue, and I would expect to see a driver update by, if not before, 10.6.7 is released. Hold tight, my friends. Returning your computer or getting it replaced isn't going to fix this, and neither is complaining to Apple Tech Support (other than that it will make them more aware of the issue). The tech people you talk to have no direct interaction with the software engineers, and aren't going to be able to do anything. They may even recommend useless troubleshooting steps like an OS reinstall. I think we'll see resolution of this once they release a software update, and not before. I've given a link to this thread to a senior level tech advisor at AppleCare, so continue posting your reports here and they will be forwarded to the engineers. Being specific about situation, peripherals, programs, and timing will help them immensely, comments such as "THIS IS BROKEN, FIX IT" are less helpful. Cheers.

  • Creating order with out Company code and plant - just for pricing -possible

    Hi gurus
Just for creating sales order (let us say no delivery and no billing, client was not intrested in the initial setup) for just pricing thing, does we really need Company code and plant. with out that just with sales org setup(sale org+D.C) can I create an order to full fil the pricing scenario.
Please I need help on this
    Thanks
    Kris

    hi kris,
we cannot create a order with out company code and plant , due to the following reasons
we do not require the company code to create the order , but we require the plant to create a material and use it in the sales order .and we require a company code to create a customer .
the pricing procedure is determined depending upon the sales area(sales org+distribution channel +division).
please reward the points if it is helpful
