Imac screen display changes
When I plug in the DVI to video adapter, the display size on my Imac monitor changes radically, becoming very large. When I unplug it goes back to normal. Is there a way to leave the adapter plugged in without it changing the size of the image in the display?
Ceremonial 11 day bump.

My imac screen display is unfocussed, odd coloured and blurred (caused by rogue cate walking over keyboard). I have no idea what settings have changed or what to check. Any ideas?!
It could be a number of keyboard shortcuts, here's a few.
If the screen is zoomed, hold CNTL and scroll down with mouse or trackpad.
If screen looks like a negative, hold down CNTL OPT CMD and click 8.
Let us know how what other symptoms are shown.

Colour of screen display changed to purple intrrupted by vertical lines
Dear all
As I was viewing a page in Safari the colour of screen display changed to purple intrrupted by vertical whitish lines. I have tried adjusting the display from Preferences with no success. I have also checked my iMac using Tech Tool Deluxe and this revealed no problem. Anybody with suggestions?

iMac intel duo (late 2006) Mac OS X (10.4.9)Sounds like a hardware problem with the LCD panel, Tech Tool is not going to detect anything like that. Time to call Applecare and see if you can get replacement.

Hi, I have an Imac G3/600mhz/CDRW/256mb/Snow. The Imac's display will change between different color hues varying from red to blue and yellow to green. When I smack the side of the computer it goes back to normal colors and then it will mess up again a couple minutes later. What could the problem be, could it be a simple loose connection, the pram battery, or something more serious. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

will it overwrite the first update I did and take its place?
Basically it will include all the updates since 10.6 base version of Snow Leopard.
Sometimes doing this corrects hard to trace issues (and is less destructive than removing the SystemPreferences.plist in this case that holds loads of info)
Somewhat considered by some as Old Fashioned Repairing Permission with Disk Utility may help (Applications/Utilities > Disk Utility, Highlight the drive/Boot Vol and First Aid tab.
After doing both of those I would consider a PRAM reset.
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down APPLE(or ⌘ )ALT(⌥)+PR Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This resets some of the settings the computer has.
(System Volume output and such that can easily be reset)

IMac 20", display changes to grey/white -- is it crashed, locked up?
iMac 20-inch 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, using 10.6.3
Twice in the past week, while typing an email or browsing a web page, the display has switched to a dim grey/white uniform colour. I haven't been able to figure out the source of the problem or how to resolve it other than by doing a cold boot. Any idea what is causing the problem?Note the exact time the issue happens and check your System logs in your Console application for clues to the cause.
It sounds like it may be a hardware issue though--possibly in your graphics circuit. If you just let the unit sit and idle, will it do it? If so, boot from your install DVD and let it run that way. If it still does it, it's most likely hardware-related.

External Monitor with iTunes - iMac screen goes black
I have an iMac with iTunes 7.7/Leopard and an external VGA monitor (I use the standard Apple mini-DVI to VGA converter) then I use the external monitor to watch video from my iTunes library.
All works well - I have my desktop spread over both monitors, I fire up a movie from iTunes, move the video window across to the external monitor and everything is good - I can watch the video on the external monitor whilst continuing to work on my Mac - the iMac screen displays the Mac desktop as normal.
However, if I put the movie into fullscreen mode (view -> fullscreen on the iTunes menu), the external monitor displays the movie in fullscreen mode as it should, however the iMac monitor goes black.
The only way to fix this is to exit fullscreen mode and go back to one of the view options (rg fit to screen).
Any ideas how I can have my external monitor in fullscreen mode and have my desktop back?

Thanks for posting this. I've been having the same issues myself for a long time and I couldn't suss it out. Like your mac, my contrast setting had been increased too - must have accidently hit the keyboard shortcut. It was also affecting my vision too. The difference is massive.... thanks

Changing screen display ratios. Want as big as I can.
Hi, I am still using my first ever computer a imac 24 inch. It still works but thinking of getting something else. I seem to have grown addicted to the larger screen size. I use my girlfriends 13 inch laptop and it drives me crazy! Something as simple as reading a single page, pages document from top to bottom with out scrolling up and down has really appealed to me.
Question 1. Can I use the mini display out from the laptop amd connect to larger monitor and change the output screen size, so I can see a full page on the screen?
Question 2. Will the Mac mini display the same as a 27 or 24 inch imac, if I have a monitor big enough? What is the size of the screen display called, is it “display ratio”??? Thank you for any help.Try:

Screen display aspect ration suddenly changed while I was online so that I have to scroll to see the edges of the display: up, down, left, right. I rebooted the computer and the problem persists.
System Preferences->Displays->Display and reset resolution to desired size. Don't know of anything that would change that except possibly a failing graphics card.

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem,how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly. -
My macbook pro's screen display has suddenly gone into a strange colour setting where everything appears in a kind of infrared colour palette an I can;t seem to change it back. It's the same for all icon and websites, does anyone know how to restore?
Wow! I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside. Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly. It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle. Of course I took no pictures!!! I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress... The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect. After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though. There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top. After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen. I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background. After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle. After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange. But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out. -
When I press the Command + F2, the iMac screen becomes a secondary for the MacBook Pro, and the Thunderbolt Display becomes the primary screen for the iMac. I was hoping that both screens would become secondaries for the MacBook Pro. Does anyone know how I should proceed? I have tried to connect the Thunderbolt display directly to the MacBook Pro, and the iMac to the Thunderbolt Display via the separate Thunderbolt cable, but there was no difference. And since the MacBook Pro only has the one Thunderbolt port, I'm not sure how to proceed.
Yes, eww, the language definitely states two thunderbolt displays, but I can understand the confusion and was siding with how they could make the mistake to think it would work like they want it to. My appologies for not being clear on that point, but I think you make it clear that the language in the ad says nothing about an imac.

IMac (Late 2013) screen display won't turn on [RESOLVED].
I just fixed the problem of my iMac screen not starting after calling AppleCare and thought I'll share the solution here as I could find no answer relating to this model of iMac, and the memory reset solution (see below) appears to have been archived by Apple. At the time of writing this, I am running OSX10.10.1 (Yosemite). The advice I was given is as follows.
Turn off your Mac by holding the power button for a few seconds to cut the power.
Removes all cables, including the power cable, USB cables, thunderport cable, everything. Also remove any dongles plugged into the iMac or into any other devices, I think an inactive wireless mouse dongle plugged into my USB keyboard caused the problem for me. Then plug in the keyboard and power cable and power up. If that doesn't work, turn off again and proceed as follows:
With one hand on the keyboard, at the same time hold down Command-Option(Alt)-P-R. With those four keys held down, use the other hand to press power button, keep those four keys held down for maybe 30 seconds. The computer should then start and restart a few times. This process resets NVRAM and/or PRAM (cached memory), I'm not sure which.
If this does not work, repeat but hold down Command+R instead to put your iMac into recovery mode. With any luck, it will now start up the display and run OSX Utilities from which you can restore, reinstall, and a few other things, but before you do, go to the Apple menu (top left) and choose instead to do a normal restart. In my experience, it then started up as normal and now works fine.
If none of the above works for you, then you probably have a hardware problem. If you have AppleCare take it to your nearest Apple Store (with your serial number, found on the box) or they can collect it and it will take about ten days. If you don't have AppleCare, take it to an Apple Store and expect a bill to pay.sgmcb,
It looks like you've covered everything you need to do. It could be any number of things, but logic board seems the most likely. Not a cheap repair.
Don't take my word for this. Bring your MBP to your local Apple Store/Genius Bar and have them take a look at it. They won't repair anything, but they might be eliminate a few possibilities.
I just hope you post the results of your visit, in case others have a similar problem in the future! -
Thunderbolt display changes colour temperature when in full screen mode
27" Thunderbolt Display connected to MacBook Air (2011) changes colour temperature when in full screen mode. Switching any setting in System Preferences/Displays changes it back to the correct colour. I have also seen this on a 24" LED Display (Display Port) connected to a Mac Book Pro (2011).
I describe my problem here. I think it's similar, can you see if the console gives you the same error?
