  • IMac screen suddenly recognizes VGA display that isn't there? Big problems

    Hello:
My dad was using his iMac G5 when the display went to a blue screen (detected an external display) and formatted to take up a small amount (10-12 inches) of the 17" screen. As I was writing this, the detect display blue screen again flashed and returned to normal.
Under display prefs, it listed a VGA display. However, there isn't even an adapter in the adapter port. Does anyone know what is going on here? I live several hundred miles away and it just so happens that I was here for the weekend. I would like to resolve this asap.
    No AppleCare.
    Thanks,
    Tyler

Sorry to chime in without a solution, only another query along the same lines. I have a co-worker who's imac (24" 2.33 intel) sometimes starts up thinking that there's a second smaller display connected. The first time this happened, the dock didn't show up (she had it set along the right-hand side, it was apparently on the "other" screen), she restarted and it would then show up. A couple of days ago I was doing some updates, restarted, and the dock disappeared again. I noticed that the mouse fully disappeared off the right side. Having seen this behavior when two displays were connected in the past, I went to the display preferences panel and it registered two screens, the main one and a much smaller one on the right side. I clicked the "detect displays" button, which reset it correctly back to a single monitor, thinking issue solved. But this morning the same issue occurred. Easy to fix, granted, but I was hoping there might be a more permanent solution? I don't think there's a single displays preferences file that might be replaced, and I'd just as soon not mess around with pitching the full system preferences file unless that'd be the only solution...
Thanksmuch in advance, and have a good one!

  • "Screen" is 1%(?) bigger than display

    Hi guys,
I have an iPhone 4 running 4.2.1, and in the last couple of days, the screen has started "pulsing" - hard to describe, but whenever it changes - say exiting an app back to the home screen - its fine for maybe 1/2 a second and then the screen (the stuff on the screen) increases in size very slightly so that the names below the bottom row of home screen icons disappear off the bottom of the display. This also happens within apps - for example, in the SMS screen, maybe a quarter of the input field box disappears off the bottom of the display. Its not terminal - I can still use it, but its annoying.
I have added no new apps in the past few weeks, so I don't think it is one of these causing it. It happens in all apps (and the home screen), so I don't think its app specific.
I can obviously do a restore (I haven't yet), but was wondering in anyone had any ideas as to what is causing it, so I can prevent it from happening again.
    Hendrix.

You can tripple finger tap..... If you take your first three fingers and tap the screen it will automatically turn off the Zoom! =)

  • ITunes Screen Resolution bigger than Window

      Hello,
Everytime I load iTunes the screen resolution is screwed up, almost as if iTunes is sized for a different screen size?  I do sometimes connect my Macbook Pro to a television so I'm not sure if that is part of the problem.   Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

Thank you so much, michaelc. I'm not that expert to manage those terminal lexicum, but you gave me the clue for solving this problem on my MacBook.
What I did, which results easier than anything else, was replacing the file "AppConfig.plist" on "Spanish.lproj" with a copy of the file with the same name on "English.lproj", and voilá!
That's such annoying that this bug hasn't been fixed, not yet on iTunes 11.0.2. iTunes feedback seems to go nowhere…
PS: Please, michaelc, answer the discussion I posted about the same topic, so I can mark your answer as the correct one.

  • HT4623 Why is my iPad 2 randomly opening and closing apps? And why, at the same time, does the screen goes bigger than smaller repetitively?

7.29.2013 - iPad2 begins to randomly open and close apps and also the screen changes from bigger to smaller repetitively when the apps are randomly opening and closing. Nothing occurred with the device to indicate why this started happening; it was not dropped, etc.

    If still problem:
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My iMac screen is frozen, yet the mouse moves across the screen. I can not open anything up. I have restarted it a few times.

The mouse keeps turning to spinning wheel. I think I have too many photos open on the desktop but I can not move them as the mouse can not pick them up

If the Finder is bogged down by too many items on the Desktop, you may be able to free it up by hiding the preview icons. Click anywhere on the Desktop to select it, then press the key combination command-J, or select
    View ▹ Show View Options
from the menu bar. In the dialog that opens, uncheck the box marked
    Show icon preview
You may now be able to move the items off the Desktop. Otherwise, start up in safe mode and try again.

My wallpaper used to be fine but suddenly it became bigger than my screen such that the part of the menu bar or dock etc is out of the screen. And, when I move my mouse, the screen moves too. Anyone knows how to solve this?

    Hi
It sounds like you might have the Zoom feature turned on. Go to System Preferences, Universal Access, and check Zoom - if it's on, turn it off.

  • 24" screen connected to my 20" iMac... bigger screen is blurry...?

    Hi Guys
I've set up a 24" external (non-Apple) screen with my 20" iMac... I want to have the same image showing on both screens.
When I choose mirroring however, I get the max resolutions on both screens, however everything looks bigger (and blurrier!) on the bigger of the two screens.
When I don't use mirroring, items are a smaller and crisper size on the big display.
Is there any way to set the screens up so that items are small and crisp on the big screen (and even smaller on the small one... which is fine)??
At the moment the big screen just looks like a bad magnification of the small one!
    Thanks heaps!
    Mike

The maximum resolution of the smaller screen is undoubtedly less than the maximum resolution of the larger. So, when you use mirroring, it of necessity must stretch the contents of the smaller screen to fit the larger one.
I'm not sure if you can reverse the mirroring (ie, use the second screen as the primary and the internal iMac screen as the secondary, mirrored screen). You could try putting the menu bar on the second screen in System Preferences -> Displays and see if that does the trick.
I wonder, though, why you're using mirroring with this setup? Seems like a waste of the second screen...

My imac screen display is unfocussed, odd coloured and blurred (caused by rogue cate walking over keyboard).  I have no idea what settings have changed or what to check.  Any ideas?!

It could be a number of keyboard shortcuts, here's a few.
If the screen is zoomed,  hold CNTL and scroll down with mouse or trackpad.
If screen looks like a negative,  hold down CNTL OPT CMD and click 8.

  • Field of view: in the programme bigger than on the camera display

    The following problem occured:
When I captured footage into Adobe Premiere Elements I recognized that the field of view in the programme was bigger than the one I saw on the display of my camera. I mean, there were objects in the left and in the right corner of the frame, which I did not intend to shoot (and which I did not see in the viewer, as well).
Are there any settings I should consider?
    Any answers appreciated.

This is fairly common. Few cameras have 100% view. Some show a bit more, but most a bit less.
Now, depending on how you are going to output the footage, it might be no problem. If you're going to TV, via DVD, then the overscan of CRT TV's will possibly crop this extra area off. If you are not sure, or your audience will have newer LED/LCD/etc. TV's, you can do one of several things.
1.) Keep things just as they are, and use the Garbage Matte to eliminate the offending objects. You'll end up with a bit of black, around your final image, unless you have some sort of background behind it.
2.) Keep things just as they are, and use Crop to do about the same. Same result as above.
3.) Use Motion Effect>Scale (and possibly a bit of Position), to enlarge the image to beyond the screen area, approximating what you saw in the viewfinder/LCD. Since you will only be doing a tiny bit of this, quality will not suffer.
Personally, I'd use #3. Trust me, this is far easier in video, than it ever was with film. Without a good budget, it meant a re-shoot, should a mic swing into the frame, or a lightstand peek in at the corner!
    Good luck,
    Hunt
