Imac screen suddenly becomes HUGE while in Safari??? Help???

I recently purchased a 27 inch IMac. I am running Safari 6.0.5 and OS 10.8.4. Everything is going fine and then suddenly the screen goes HUGE  and I have to shut down Safari and relaunch it frequently losing whatever i was working on.  I tried double clicking with on finger, double clicking with 2 fingers, as well as cursing at the computer without any success. The smart-zoom on my mouse says that if you double click with one finger this will go away but it is lying!!
This has become a pain in the A**.  Any suggestions or ideas. i am sure I am not the only one with this problem!!
Thanks
David

I understand you can turn smart zoom off if it cause too many problems for you,go to  System Preferences/Mouse and uncheck smart zoom

My iMac has suddenly become very slow to wake from "sleep." How do I fix this and what is causing the problem? Even the mouse wakes very slowly.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
    1. Quit all app scompletely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • IMac has suddenly become very slow doing everything?

My iMac has suddenly become very slow -at present it is useless and will have to take to apple unless you can help.?

First, make sure you have adequate backups. If your hard disk is failing this could be a sign. It can be replaced if necessary, but a backup strategy is recommended whether or not you are experiencing problems.
Read: OS X Mountain Lion: If your Mac runs slowly. It applies to Lion as well. The article is very cursory, but be sure to read through to the end. Unfortunately the link there is broken, so use this one: Disk Utility. To do this you must start your Mac from the Recovery System or Internet Recovery.
Rather than ask a dozen questions for more details about your system consider the following. You must be running either Lion or Mountain Lion. Including your version of OS X in your system description would help.
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply. Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or "failed".
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.

  • IMac screen suddenly turns black

    iMac screen suddenly turns black

Suddenly shuts down,  after few moments can be started and used again like normal.   Started occurring when mouse and key board batteries where low ? coincidence-- batteries now changed but still happened once.

  • The touch screen is not operating while opening safari

the touch screen is not operating while opening safari in ipad

My favorites in in order ...iCab, Mercury, Atomic, Dolphn HD. iCab is a great choice with a ton of features. It really leaves Safari in the dust - IMO. I think I tired Terra at one point but I no longer have it so I really can't remember what it was like.
Any browser can freeze or crash on you once in a while on a device like this that has limited RAM like the iPad has. If you clear the cookies and the cache, you should be good to go again.

  • IMac screen suddenly oversaturated. ML. Redish-magenta colors

I have my osx system since 2007. i recently upgraded to imac 2012, 21.5" and Mountain Lion  (from imac 2007, snow leopard). I do professional photography.
Everything was fine until i notice that in some photos, my magenta-redishh colors were way to saturated. I DO food photography, speccially salmon and this particular salmon hue is very  very saturated now.
Also i notice an increased "GAMMA" compared to my previous monitor, but i was expecting that on new imacs. Any way, this gamma enhancement increases overall contrast too making everything worst.
Tried to change the monitor profile (i´m using thedefault by now) and nothing changes. Is very annoying not having fine control over the iMac screen. The visual callibration method is very unreliable. I did not touch the "universal acces" contrast either, that is not the issue.
I´ll try to load in safe mode, maybe is there a nvidia CUDA driver error?
Please i need help .i´m afraid is a hardware issue.
    thanks.

I downloaded the whacked rgb image and it looks ok for me. on every app. a little oversaturated overall
only color-managed apps will display whackedRGB correctly -- it will look blue on unmanaged apps
if it is still showing a little oversaturated in Preview, Photoshop, Safari -- then your monitor profile doesn't quite match your monitor
you might try using a fresh sRGB profile as your monitor profile (if that improves the WhackedRGB color) until you get the calibration figured out
untagged and adobe rgb look more saturated on orange-magenta hue.
untagged RGB on unmanaged apps generally gets sent straight to the monitor with no change
you can test this in Photoshop by View> Proof Setup: Monitor RGB
untagged RGB on color-managed apps (Safari, Preview) generally gets sent straight to the monitor with no change
untagged RGB on Photoshop (you ignore the embedded profile or don't color manage) and Firefox (with Full Color Management Value 1 enabled), for all practical purposes, ASSIGNS the working default profile and CONVERTS to monitor RGB

  • My iMac screen suddenly turn black and white when I'm in fullscreen mode. What could be the cause of this problem?

Hi, once in a while the screen on my 5K imac turns black and white when I'm on youtube watching videos in fullscreen mode. It also exits the fullscreen mode automatically from one second to the next and a warning pops up saying how I can exit the fullscreen mode. Does anyone have an idea why this happens and if this is a software or hardware problem?

I'm using a Dell laptop with Windows 7. I've set the resolution to 1024x768, though the maximum resolution on this can go as high as 1366x768. So this is a problem that no one has been able to figure out? I've ran lots of other Flash-based applications that went fullscreen with no problem, so I'm wondering what other methods there are to try, if possible.

  • My iMac Screen has become completely pixilated and flashing

Went to use my computer this morning and after about 5 minutes the screen became completely pixilated.  Shut the computer down and tried to restart and got this.
Called apple care but my protection plan has expired, representative was very nice and after listening to me describe the problem he sent me a link to reset the PRAM.  I followed the instructions and now I get this:
Computer continues to go to a grey box that says I must restart.  Does anyone have any other suggestions for what this may be??  PLEASE HELP!!

Allan, the information is so confusing....
Indeed! That's why I editted out that part after having second thoughts and seeing your follow-up. The MacTracker database is pretty good about details but does not go into which iMacs have separate video hardware. From personal iMac exerience within the family, we jumped from a G3/400 to my mid-2010 quad-cor i7 27-inch without managing to own any of the intervening models!
My biggest concern for the OP is parts. Althoguh that model still shows as "supported," there have been times when Apple didn't have parts that old.

  • My websites and UI have suddenly become huge. How can I get them back to a normal, smaller size?

Yesterday all of a sudden my webpages and UI appeared to be magnified. While I can zoom out on websites, I cannot find any option to adjust the size of the UI.
I noticed that Firefox 22 (which I am running) has a new feature: "Windows: Firefox now follows display scaling options to render text larger on high-res displays". Is it possible to adjust how Firefox responds to the display scaling options perhaps?
''07-27-13 - moderator locked this due to the length of this two month old thread - please post in one of the other threads discussing this issue''

    WARNING!!!
This is extremely bad advice! =(
I tried 0.05 and and that broke my FF 22 installation irreversibly, since all text became unreadable.
    ==Please Note==
This is explained in the next post but is not visible from all pages so I am adding it in directly
    ''The steps have a resolution of 0.05 (0.95 0.9 0.85 0.8)
Of course you shouldn't go back all the way to 0.05 or you would have to edit the prefs.js file ''
    <br /> A forum moderator ~J99
Then don't post "0.05" as a value, when people ask what to put in that variable.
Of course people will try it.
And of course nobody would expect 0.05 to be '''smaller '''than both -1 '''and '''1, on an unknown scale.
    <br />MatsSvensson
Fortunately i could go back to version 21.
I spent a couple of hours googling this problem, and trying various workarounds, which the web is now overflowing with.
But it seems impossible to completely get FF22 not looking like shit and distorting the crap out of all websites.
Now i have turned off updating, and will stick with 21 until this idiotic garbage is removed from Firefox.
And besides, even IF i could have applied some hack, SO WHAT?
99.99999% of all users wont be able to, or wont bother to do it, or wont know its even an option, which means we then have to start designing websites that both look good on non-swollen AND swollen (Firefox) browsers!
Congratulation to making FF the new IE6.
OBVI-FU**ING-OUSLY its NOT a good idea to start telling people to apply various hacks to work around this, since this will fragment the way the same sites look in the same browsers (even more so).
The correct response is to grasp that this "feature" is broken and remove it, or fix it, an stop rolling out the broken version before it does even more damage.
How the F can they roll out something THIS epically broken?
I have found posts dating back months, from people using beta versions, who reported exactly this problem.
And STILL it was rolled out?

  • IMac screen suddenly recognizes VGA display that isn't there? Big problems

    Hello:
My dad was using his iMac G5 when the display went to a blue screen (detected an external display) and formatted to take up a small amount (10-12 inches) of the 17" screen. As I was writing this, the detect display blue screen again flashed and returned to normal.
Under display prefs, it listed a VGA display. However, there isn't even an adapter in the adapter port. Does anyone know what is going on here? I live several hundred miles away and it just so happens that I was here for the weekend. I would like to resolve this asap.
    No AppleCare.
    Thanks,
    Tyler

Sorry to chime in without a solution, only another query along the same lines. I have a co-worker who's imac (24" 2.33 intel) sometimes starts up thinking that there's a second smaller display connected. The first time this happened, the dock didn't show up (she had it set along the right-hand side, it was apparently on the "other" screen), she restarted and it would then show up. A couple of days ago I was doing some updates, restarted, and the dock disappeared again. I noticed that the mouse fully disappeared off the right side. Having seen this behavior when two displays were connected in the past, I went to the display preferences panel and it registered two screens, the main one and a much smaller one on the right side. I clicked the "detect displays" button, which reset it correctly back to a single monitor, thinking issue solved. But this morning the same issue occurred. Easy to fix, granted, but I was hoping there might be a more permanent solution? I don't think there's a single displays preferences file that might be replaced, and I'd just as soon not mess around with pitching the full system preferences file unless that'd be the only solution...
Thanksmuch in advance, and have a good one!

  • My iMac screen suddenly dark. Cursor works. Display gone? Processor ok?

Screen went dark gray almost black.  Cursor still present and moves as should with mouse.  Sound controls work, too.  Feels like display died? Processor still okay but unreachable?  Or is it the reverse?

Problem now fixed with SMC reset.  Is this a sign that hard drive or display is going?  Have 24-inch, Early 2009 iMac.

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED: iMac screen suddenly going half dark?!

    Hi..
So earlier tonight I was using my iMac perfectly, then had to stop since I was going out with friends for dinner and to see a performance and when I came back, shook my mouse awake my screen came back on from it's sleep mode and was fine and then the top half dimmed.
I tried messing with the lighting because I thought maybe my roommate's cat may have stepped on it, but it was at 100%. I rebooted, turned it off for 5 minutes then turned it on again and it comes on fully lit for a split second then dims at the top again. It's not black, but you can see that the screen has dimmed a lot. I'm attaching a picture, hopefully you can tell what I mean. It's a kind of crappy phone pic but that's all I have right now.
I bought this iMac in May 2007, so I doubt I have any warranty left and I can't remember or find paperwork to see if I bought apple care protection.
Does anyone know what this could be? I've read on another forum that it might be a back light going out. Any idea how much that would cost me?
    Thanks!

    Well, some questions ?
I'm just another user and no expert, but:
*Might not want to shut it down until you have backed up your data, First!*
1.) Does everything else run good? --if "beach balling" badly, call an expert and I wouldn't shut it down or sleep it.
2.) Is there a hardware test you could run? --each version of OSX generally has something like disk utilities you can run. Try apple's downloads page for useful 3rd party utilities, assuming you can run them o.k. and everything "seems" fine except for screen.
3.) Do you have it plugged into a surge protector? --sometimes they get used up. You could (after verifying hardware and preferably backing up data) try it on another wall socket in another room, to check electrical viability. You might have a bad or dangerous wall outlet. If the wall gets really hot above the outlet, have it checked out immediately. Houses burn down every day from bad outlets and old aluminum electrical wire. (lol, I'm not saying anything bad about your house.....just trying to cover the basics).

  • Just got an iPad mini and now the screen suddenly stopped working. What to do?

Got my iPad mini as a gift last week and last night the screen suddenly stopped responding [while in use]... until now. Read and tried the troubleshooting tips here and other sources (resetting, cleaning the screen, restoring from back up, etc) but nothing seemed to work. It's currently running on iOS 6.1.3 syncs with iTunes and doesn't seem to have any problem as viewed on iTunes, wasn't dropped, abused or anything. Using warranty and having it replaced will be my last resort since I'm kinda embarrassed telling the person who gave it to me that it's broken or damaged.
    Please do help. Huge thanks!

  • IMac crashes when I access video in Safari

    Hi everyone.
A few weeks ago my iMac started to crash intermittently while using Safari, when opening a video. We first noticed it happening a lot on MSNBC. When we open the video, it starts, and usually, right at the beginning, just when they start talking the system crashes.
The problem is getting worse. It’s happened on other sites now, including uTube.
I have reviewed the help forums and haven’t seen anything that matches what’s happening to me. I did uninstall and reinstall Flash, and I did run disk utility.
After doing both, I opened several videos, and everything worked fine… I thought it was solved. Tonight, first video I opened… crash. It was on the MSNBC site.
When it crashes a dark semi-transparent “curtain” falls down the screen. The audio goes into a loop – like a record skipping. If you are old enough for that to be meaningful At the same time a black box appears with the text “You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button.” It also shows 3 other languages.
I restart, and see below the error information I get.

    Any suggestions?

The same thing happens to me. I had it checked a month ago and the logic board and the display were replaced. But the same thing happened again and now i have repeated kernel panics everyday, again, With videos(any video at any site), with flash sites, with larger or several images, with photo booth...i'm desperate and don't know what to do. Before i had my imac checked i formated it, re-installed the mac os software, all my files are stored in an external disk... so...i'm desperate really really having a nervous breakdown with this problem. Please HELP!
