IMac Second Display won't power down

I've added an LG 20" widescreen as a second display for my 20" Intel iMac (white). When the iMac sleeps or powers down, the LG display goes blank but not black, power button remains on and a "check signal cable" message displays.
A second problem is that I've been trying to get the two displays to look the same, color-wise. The color match option under displays>color gets it close, but that option has disappeared from the list of choices. Before, I could choose from the LG color settings as well as several generic choices (Color match, Adobe RGB, etc.) Those other choices have gone away. The calibrate option is still there. I just upgraded to Leopard. Did that have anything to do with it or was it just a coincidence?

Have you checked the Energy Saver settings? System Preferences / Energy Saver.
If the settings are what you want, you can try this. Change them to anything at all then change them back to what you want. The restart the computer and reset the PRAM.
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

  • My iPod won't power down?

    Hello
I have an iPod Nano that I keep on a radio/alarm clock thing. Sometimes when I take it off it won't power down. Does anyone know how I can get it to power down?

SOmetimes you just have to wait a few seconds after pausing it and/or removing it from the dock before shutting it down. This is normal. If it still won't shut down after ten seconds or so, you might try holding the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset it - then see if it'll shut down.
    Cheers!

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB won't power down; any ide

I've had a 30GB Zen Vision M for a couple of months now! Awesome player, went through the usual round of recognition problems, but it's been working fine of late. My problem is, it won't power down now. When I try to power down, the unit says it's powering down, the dispaly goes black except for the battery icon. And it stops there. The blue backlight on the menu buttons stays on, the battery icon stays on, and eventually it turns off after 5 minutes because of being idle. Not a terrible problem I know, but a real niusance. I am running the most current firmware (have been for a while). I've tried resetting and clean-up. No change. I'm afraid of trying to reinstall the firmware, in case I have the same problem that many others are having, and go from a good player with a power issue, to a player that does nothing. I can't see it being the power switch itself, since it powers up fine, and tries to power down. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. birder

    Hello Dsgrov,
    Welcome to Creative forums!
You can get a lot of results if you search "Zen Vision M not charging" on the search box.
Here's one, you might want to check this thread.

  • Ipod won't power down

I can't get my ipod to power down. It's constantly staying on, draining the battery. It won't power down automatically or manually by holding down play/pause.

I found another question and answer about the same issue, and was able to correct the problem.

  • IMac G5 (iSight) won't power up

My iMac G5 with built-in iSight will not power up regardless of what is plugged in. I've disconnected power, waited, etc. Nothing I do seems to work. Disconnected my cable modem, firewire & USB devices... no change. I noticed 2 days ago my fans were LOUD while it was asleep. This happened once before. I powered it off and eventually powered it back up. I've tried various outlets as well and still won't power up. Last night the machine was just fine, even an hour after I put it to sleep. This morning... a dead iMac?
I've had this new iMac since Dec. 2005, about 5 months now. Is there anything else I can do myself to troubleshoot, or should I call Apple (who apparently has the Memorial Day off today). Or do I bring it back to CompUSA? Or possibly the Apple Store here in town?
    iMac G5 (iSight)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi David - I had this big fear before going on travel. I started this thread Shut Down and people thought I was crazy or something. I don't believe your machine's problem is unique but systemic. In a few short weeks of playing around with my machine, it already exhibited some unusual behaviors in regards to power issues, Spinning Beach Ball - and in the last few days there have been quite a few posts regarding power up issues in particular invovling the iSight model (in my opinion the iMac G5 maybe turning into the Ford Explorer of the Computer world)
I will be returning from travel in another week or so and hope my machine will successfully boot up... I'll keep you posted, Good luck, Rick

  • Second display won't work on mac partition but works on windows

Hey I have a 21.5" imac from mid 2011 and have recently update to OS X Mavericks.
I bought a mini dp to hdmi to connect a second monitor up to my imac a month or so ago. At the time I was running 10.6.8 and thought that may be why it wasn't picking up the second display.
All the while the second monitor has been working fine on my windows 7 partition.
Hoping anyone can shed some light on this.
Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give

  • Muvo T200 Won't Power down or pause

I bought a muvo t200 for my husband for his birthday (as a match to my own). Aftger upgrading the firmware to .03.03 it will turn on, but won't pause or power down. About one in three times, pressing the power down button causes it to either skip to the designated shortcut or go to the options. the rest of the menu seems to be working ok.
    Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for helping out!

Can you try resetting it to see if that helps?
Insert and remove a straightened paperclip from the Reset Hole.
If this does not work, you probably need to format the player.
WARNING: This step deletes all your player's content. If possible, back up all your player's content on your computer before proceeding.
    1. Make sure your player is connected to your computer and you are logged on in Administrator mode. For details about Administrator mode, see your operating system's documentation.
    2. In Windows Explorer, right-click your player and select Format.

  • IPhone 4s won't power down

Recently I have noticed that my iphone will not power down.  I go to turn it off and it goes through the process of shutting itself down and then after two seconds magically turns itself back on again.  After this happening several times I have tried pretty much everything to fix it.  I have tried resetting the settings, deleting data and settings, full restore and cleaned out the charging port but all to no avail.  The problem continues.  Has anyone actually had this problem fixed?  Would be nice to be able to power my phone off, especially with filights to catch in the near future.

  • 5th Gen 60G Won't Power Down-NO SLEEP

My 5th gen 60g's are not powering down, the backlight will go off, but they will NOT power down! I've reset, re-installed and used factory defaults, but they still drain down the battery because they WON"T SHUT OFF

I'm looking into the same problem. A friend has a 5G 30GB video that's having insomnia. I've restored it a couple of times using itunes 8.0.1, and the firmware is version 1.3.
It's got a few problems. One is that it won't go to sleep by itself at all. If I enable the sleep menu option and select it, it "sorta tries to" go to sleep - i.e. the clickwheel stops responding but the screen stays on (if the backlight is set to "always on" then that also stays on). The clickwheel stops responding to swizzling until I press a button.
Also, when I do a reset (hold down center/menu buttons) it forgets all the menu and clickwheel settings when it reboots and even asks me to choose the language again. I believe this only started happening in the last couple of weeks. I don't know if a firmware upgrade triggered it.
It's chewing up the battery very quickly the way it is. I've loaned the owner my old 20GB photo for the time being and this one will sit on a charger until a solution appears
I hope someone at apple spots this and writes a patch!
    Thanks
    Matt.

  • Macbook won't power down

Bought a brand new Aluminum Macbook 4 days ago, and it worked perfectly for the fisrt 3 days, but today it has decided to not power down or let me log off. When I try to shut it down, it acts normally at first, closing out all my open apps but then it just does nothing and won't turn off.

Have you tried holding down the power (on/off) button to force shut down?

  • Thunderbolt Display won't power up

So I have a Thunderbolt Display that I bought on eBay , trying to set up as my second monitor. The glass was broken, and I replaced it. Seemed great, I was using it last night daisy chained from my other TB display.
However, when I looked this morning, the second monitor would not power up. I tried connecting directly to my mbp, still no dice. I haves couple of USB dongles that typically light up when I plug them into the back of my other monitor, but they don't light up when I plug them into this one anymore.
I did mistakenly plug in a fw800 cable into the Ethernet port, but I don't imagine that I did any damage, since the FW cable housing is plastic, so I don't think it could have shorted out anyof the Ethernet pins.
Any ideas what could have happened overnight? Does this sound like a power thing maybe? Wiggling the TB connector doesn't seen to have any effect.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Geoff

I suppose the TB cable could have gone bad.  If you get a another TB cable and plug it in from your MBP to the TB port of the display and see what happens.  If it powers up and all ports work then it means the built in cable is bad.  If nothing happens means the TBD is dead and will require repair.
