IMac setup for FinalCut Studio

I planing to buy a second monitor to the station and to fit with Final Cut Studio I have no idea so please give me some advise.
the choice is
A. a glossy 21.5" monitor
B. matt 21.5" monitor
C. glossy LCDTV 32"
D. matt LCDTV 32"
wich one is suit the software and the work flow of the FCP shoot-cap-edit-comp
I'm not decided about matt and glossy

No one can decide for you. I like glossy displays.
You must find a way to work on both styles or just pick one, you cannot trust mine or anyone else's recommendations. But a tv set is useless unless you have a proper display card that will feed it and that's not an option on iMac.

Please can anyone send me the setup for Debug JD Edwards "C' Business Function with Vistual Studio 2008
    using C:\e812\system\bin32\activConsole.exe

You don't need any setup; just build the bsfn in debug mode, exit form jde, run VS2008, opne the jde solution file, set a brekpoint into your bsfn and it works.

  • Optimum setup for FCP Studio on MBP

This is my first FCP install on a laptop. The last time I installed on my old desktop I had 3 partitions (System, Scratch, Work Disk captured on ext FW drive). Should I partition the MBP drive?
What else should I consider before install?
I plan on capturing media to an ext. FW drive.
    17" MBP, 2.16, 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Partitioning does nothing for performance. Indeed, it can make the drive work harder as the heads may have to move farther to run everything than if the disk is just one partition and the files are more closely packed.
It is highly recommended you work with a second disk for media capture and editing.
have fun with the new toy.

  • Imac for FCP studio

Is anybody using an imac to run FCP studio out there? I wanted some opinions on getting an imac for my second computer at home to edit with FCP studio. I have a macpro in the edit bay at work for running motion as well as using it for rendering and the heavy stuff. I just want to be able to run FCP studio smoothly at home for fine tuning, sound editing and rough cutting projects. I have a couple of external hard drives so storage won't be an issue. I just wanted some input, what works/what dosen't, etc.before I buy.
    thanks in advance.

Been running FCP Studio, Logic Pro, Reason, After Effects, Photoshop, and everything else I can stuff on my hard drive on a refurbished i5 27" imac. The machine will be a year old in April. No problems at all....that's only because I got Applecare when I bought it It's a beautiful machine.

  • Best setup for iMac with SSD & HDD? Best location of scratch & home folders

Best setup for iMac with SSD and HDD? Best location of scratch & home folders?
    Computer:
iMac 2.93 GHz Quad core i7, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD
There is not much info from Apple about the best way to set up an iMac with a Hard Drive and Solid state drive. I’ve looked at a few of the forum posts across the web and came up with a plan and lots of questions. (I do use photoshop frequently, but not on a professional level):
    1. I will keep OS and Applications on SSD
    2. About moving the home folder: I saw some posts about moving the whole home folder, but it makes more sense to me to only move selected fodlers withing the home folder tomake the best use of the SSD. So will keep the home folder on SSD, but move certain folders (document /music/iphoto/download) to 1 TB HDD via instructions I found on the macintoshperformanceguide website:
    cd
    sudo cp -r Documents /Volumes/Master
    sudo rm -rf Documents
    sudo ln -s /Volumes/Master/Documents Documents
    3. I would like to get 8 more RAM when I can afford it
    4. I will attach an external hard drive for most of my documents and backup storage
    5. Now here is where I’m not sure what’s best:
    a. Should I partition my internal 1 TB hard drive and use the first partition as a scratch disc for photoshop and other applications? How much should I partition? Is there any benefit to this if the rive is partitioned?
    b. Should I use an external drive as a scratch disc?
    c. Any advice on a good 1-2 TB external drive?
    d. Should I just leave things in factory settings?
Don't assume I know the basics - I got all the above just by searching around. Any advice and commentary is appreciatedThanks.

Thanks for the advice and the links. yes, I would like to speed up ps as much as possible.
I wonder if putting the scratch disc on the same drive as the OS would cause them to interfere with each other? Even if they are on different partitions, they would not be able to be accessed at the same time, or could they? That's why I was wondering if I should place scratch disc on the internal HDD -- but then I don't know how much to partition for it (or to partition at all?)
ALso, I read on a few places that too much read/write on the SSD wears it down over time? Is this more of a theoretical concerns - it does not make sense to me since it has no moving parts!
thanks again for the advice ... I'm gonna go digest those links

where is the serial number for DVD on the FinalCut Studio 3 upgrade?

    Hi Dnstreet
It's usually on the front of the little booklet that comes with it. There will be a couple of stickers with the serials printed. I normally take one off and stick it to the outside of the box so it's easier to get to later.

  • Setup on new iMac, asking for a Keychain Password for com.apple.smig

I am doing setup on new iMac, we have the old iMac asking for a Keychain Password for com.apple.smig.
Does anyone know what this is? What is it looking for?

Has anyone else figured this out? I'm getting it on every machine I upgrade and I have about 18 more to go and would like to fix it.
These are brand new iMac's shipped with Mountain Lion. I turn them on and the third screen asks if you want to transfer items from a backup or another Mac. I choose another Mac. Then use Migration Assistant on the users old machine (running Snow Leopard 10.6.8) and then let it transfer all of their files.
At just about the end of the transfer the new Mac pops up this error and waits until an action is taken. I've tried every password it could have been on the previous users machine to no avial. The only option appears to be hitting cancel and movi ng on but I'd like to know what is breaking when this happens becase the machines exhibit a strange spinning wheel hang when logging in afterwards?
Here's a screen shot of the new iMac and the problem:

  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008 - dbf

    Hello,
I use both Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 on same PC. I can not work with dbf files (format foxpro2x, dbase IV) in VS 2005 and VS 2008.
Q1. Work Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008 with database files - dbf (version foxpro2x, dbaseIV)? I get error -
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
    Failed to load database information
or with dbf files work only Full version of Crystal Reports?
Q2. How re-install Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008. In setup Add/Remove features not exist Crystal Reports check box. I only Repair/reinstall all Visual Studio but after reinstall same error
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
    Failed to load database information
    3. When I can open sample project with Crystal Reports which use Crystal Reports (dbf file) this error is displayed:
    Crystal Report Viever
    Failed to load database information
Details: The database DLL "crdb_p2bxbse.dlll" could not be loaded.
    4. I reinstal Crystal Report in Visual Studio 2005 - same error
    5. I apply hotfix Crystal Reports for .NET 2005 - SP 1 - same error
    Thank You
    Ludek

    Hi Ludek,
1-For dbase file to work you need have permission on database files for IIS as well as user accessing the database.
2-For re-install you need to insert the CD of visual studio setup then do custom install and then try to choose crystal reports for re-installing
3-The old viewer might cause the problem. In this case can you try connecting to a blank dbase file.
    and for such issues we have a special forum [here|SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio;
    Thanks,

  • ICloud setup for Family to only share Apps

Okay, so I've tried reading through several different articles to figure this out but I'm not getting anywhere so I'm hoping there's somewhere here with a similiar setup that can just give the basic setup. So here's what I want to do, I want to be able to setup icloud on each of my families devices so they are backed up into their own accounts but I also want to make sure that App's are shared across the devices. Here's the setup that I have:
    1. For Myself I have an iPhone and a iMac
    2. My wife has an iPhone and a Macbook
    3. My son has a iPad
Now right now everyone is linked up to my Apple ID since that's the account in which all the Apps are purchased and the billing information is linked up to. I want to setup each device with an icloud account as well so our informaiton can be backed up but I don't want information crossed over between devices (for example I don't want all the contacts from my wife's phone on my phone nor do I want our messages sharted on my son's iPad). I'm not sure on how I can go about this since right now each device is hooked up to my Apple ID (so we can use the Find my iPhone app as well for each device) so I don't know if I create a separate account for everyone if that will still work or if I need to know each login and password. I also want to setup a icloud e-mail account that I can use for the iMac and my iPhone only, and the same setup for my wife and her Macbook. Any help would be great, thanks.

To avoid sharing and merging your iCloud data, you will need to put each person's devices on a separate iCloud account with a separate ID.  You can continue to all share the same ID for iTunes; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.
Creating separate accounts will keep everyone's iCloud data separated, and give each person's devices their own 5GB of free storage for their device backups, and a separate iCloud email account/address.  However, Find My iPhone (iPad, iPod, Mac) is tied to the iCloud ID so they cannot be tracked together on the same map.  You will have to sign into each iCloud account separately (on icloud.com or the Find My iPhone app) in order to locate devices using that iCloud ID.

  • MySQL 5.5, Crystal Report for Visual Studio not working when hosted IIS

    Software and Component detail
    Microsoft visual studio 2010
    MS .NET Framework
    Version 4.0.30319 RTMRel
    MYSQL SERVER Database
    Version 5.5
    MySQL Connector 6.6.4 64 Bit
    MySQL ODBC Driver Version 5.2.a
Crystal Report for Visusl Studio 64 Bit 13.0.5
    (CRforVS_redist_install_64bit_13_0_5)
    Current Setup
    1. I have WebSite in ASP.NET Visual Basic which works fine and is connected to MySQL Database, using MySQl Connector 6.6.4 64 bit
and is using a connection string, defined in web.confg.
    2. I am using a Crystal report( It is very complex report, so cannot dare to redo it). Data Source for the report is set using a connection string
DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 5.2a Driver};SERVER=Licensedb;DATABASE=License;pwd=root;PORT=3306;OPTION=3 and this report is called from website using the below code
Dim crystalReport As ReportDocument = New ReportDocument()
    Dim repPath As String = Server.MapPath("~/Reports/") + "LicenseReport.rpt"
    crystalReport.Load(repPath)
    CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = crystalReport
    crystalReport.SetParameterValue("InstanceID", CInt(Session("sessionInstanceID")))
    crystalReport.Refresh()
    crystalReport.SetParameterValue("InstanceID", CInt(Session("sessionInstanceID")))
    CrystalReportViewer1.Visible = True
    3. The above setup works fine, when I run the website from Visual studio 2010. But when i use IIS 7, the aspx page having crystal report viewer control load and its blank.
However it work very well from studio it self.
    4. So I changed the setup in point 2, by having a ODBC Data source defined. And changed the report accordingly. It work fine in Visual studio , but from IIS
it gives error "Failed to Open Connection, Failed to Open Connection <Crystal Report File name.rpt>"
    5. I tried creating a System DSN and same connection string in IIS Application Connection string. But nothing changed.
Please can anyone point in correct direction. I must admit this is my first website development work, so I might have overlooked some minor details.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

hello again. I fear that what is said in that article does not apply to my particular case.
First of all i am using the Crystal Report Basic 2008, which I think is not the same product as Crystal Reports 2008.
In addition, printing fails always, on my PC and on the web server.
On the other hand I can not find anywhere printcontrol.cab file or printcontrol.dll, just do not exist either in my PC or on the web server.
The folder where the report viewer is located is not CrystalReportViewers12, is CrystalReportWebFormViewer4, and is located at wwwroot\aspnet_client\system_web\2_0_50727\
Investigating I found something, but has not helped me:
This problem is what always happens to me when on my local PC I access my web server by its public IP.
I think I must resign myself to use only the PDF print
    thanks anyway

  • Trading my iMac G5 for a new MacBook

I currently use a iMac G5 running OS X 10.3.9, Logic Express and a Presonus FireBox interface. I tried to upgrade my system to Leopard but after a week or trying and failing (incuding hours on hold for tech support) I've ditched the idea of upgrading my iMac to Leopard and buying the express to Logic Studio upgrade etc....
But then I thought.........My wife has a new MacBook that came with Leopard.
IF I could persuade her to "trade" computers with me (that's a big IF) maybe then I will not have to deal with installing Leopard at all; just use the MacBook, buy the $299 express to Logic Studio upgrade.
    So I wondered....
    1. How does the express 7 to Logic Studio upgrade work? Right now Logic Express 7 is on the iMac (not the Mac Book). Does Logic Studio just need my Express 7 serial number OR dose it need to be installed on the same maching that is running Express 7? Would I then have to un-install express 7 from my iMac and try and install it on the MacBook?
    2. How does Logic Studio run on a new MacBook? I've tried to find some info on the forum but it seems that most folks use the pro machines so I did not get a feel for Logic Studio's performance on the MacBooks
    Thanks for your help
    Morris

Excellent tip about using an External hard drive with the MacBook. I have a couple of LaCie FrieWire drives that i could use with it. Thanks for your help.
Does anyone know "how" the upgrade from Express 7 to logic Studio works? I've got express 7 installed on the iMac (not the MacBook). I've got the original disks that came with express 7. Would I need to install express 7 on the MacBook in order to do the "upgrade" to Logic Studio? In other words, does Logic Studio need to "see" Express 7 on the machine. Or, is it a matter of entering my Express 7 serial number (which I have) durning the upgrade?
    Thanks,
    Morris

  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 runtime LICENCE

I want to welcome everyone. It's my first post on this forum.
I want to provide my Windows Form application to a client. This application was written in VS 2010 and it uses SAP Crystal Reports for generating simple report.
I've read [Crystal Reports Licensing Explained|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/10cd9e15-120d-2c10-3fb5-be299000b6b7&utm_source=crvs2010&utm_medium=lp&utm_campaign=licensing_explained] pdf and I've learnt that in my case redistribution of software that embeds the Crystal Reports runtime engine is free.
    My question is:
Is there something else I must include in my application package for instance a licence file? Or maybe I just have to include SAP CR runtime or ask user to download it from the SAP web site and that's it?
    Marcin

    Hello Marcin,
    Welcome.
Please note that whenever you distribute your application (which uses Crystal reports) to others who may not have Crystal designer product, you need to provide the runtimes along with the application. The runtimes provide the necessary dlls in the machine for running Crystal inside the app.
You can use an exe to install the CR runtimes and then deploy your app. OR you can include the msm files and create a deployment package.
You will get the runtimes for CR4VS2010 [here|/people/coy.yonce/blog/2010/11/12/crystal-reports-for-visual-studio-2010-production-release-now-availableCystlR%2528SAPWeblogs%253ACrystal+Reports%2529].
You might want to check [this|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_dev/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333233313335333833323336%7D.do] link for details.
    Forgot to mention:

  • I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone.  Will the base mini model run these programs?

I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone.  Will the base mini model run these programs?

The base mini has 4GB and a 5400 RPM hard drive. It is slow to start up and slow to launch large application such as Word (and I'd assume Adobe Audition) due to the slow drive. I've not used a new 4GB model, just the 8GB model, and the 8GB model (except for the slow drive) handles everything I've thrown at it, including running Photoshop, Word, Safari, and Mail at the same time but there is sometimes a delay switching between programs as the swapfile is updated. Overall I was not happy with the 5400 RPM drive (perhaps because I have MBA and iMac with Fusion drive) so I eventually upgraded it with an SSD. Now the mini is truly a warrior.

  • External Drive selection/setup for TM

Just upgraded to Leopard. Very excited to use Time Machine, and really want to set it up right from the begining. Thought of this setup:
    - for TM: external hard-drive with 2TB (400/800) WD or Seagate
    - for shared storage (pix/music/etc.) for iMac and other laptops (PCs): TimeCapsule 1TB (i would like to TM this external as well)
if I get a 1TB for TM, and it starts to run out of space, can I daisy chain it (i.e. expand it)?
thank you for your time and help in advance.

    1. You can configure the 1TB Time Capsule for TM backups of all your computers in the house.
    2. Attach a 1TB USB2 HDD (known as AirDisk) to thee USB2 Time Capsule port and all your computers will have access to it via file sharing and/or Account/PW setups using the Mac's AirPort Utility.
So long as speed to/from the AirDisk does not present a problem then this setup should work for you.
If you want more shared storage then attach a powered hub to the Time Capsules USB2 port and hang more USB2 HDDs to the hub.
Review Drobo device as well. Spendy but easy to use and setup. See http://www.drobo.com/products.aspx

HD-DVD is a dead format. It may play on your mac - or an HD-DVD set top player, if you happen to have one - but nowhere else. If you just want playback on your mac, compress to h.264 with your current frame size. If you want a DVD it will have to be SD and Mpeg-2 as Shawn already explained.
