IMac Showing as "My iMac" AND as new-host -- only new-host accessible
I have a network set up with 2 macs and 2 PCs. When I view the networked computers in Finder on my MacBook Air, I see both "Fred Mertz' iMac" and "new-host", as separate listings of the same computer. I can access the computer's drives by clicking on "new-host" but I cannot connect to it as "Fred Mertz' iMac. What's going on here? I want to network itunes, but it cant do it from the "new-host" computer.

Well depending on the model you can upgrade the ram to 1 or 2 GB. A full upgrade will require taking the bottom off. Find your model here:

I have many clients that use their old Macs for exactly this purpose. It should have no problems doing what you're thinking. Even if you only upgrade the easily accessible RAM in the base it would run Tiger no problem.
I have a 17" 800 MHz machine that I use for displaying .pdf files and playing "guy" DVDs in my tech shop.

It should be a matter of
Quiting iTunes first if it's running
Connecting your external harddrive to your Mac, use the Finder to browse to it
Find your iTunes folder on the ext HDD and double-click on iTunes Library.itl

My Macbook 4,1 came with 1 GB of memory. Only 512MB shows up in the activity monitor. I just upgraded the memory to 4 GB. Although 2GB shows up in DIMM0 and DIMM1 it still only says I have 512MB of memory. Can someone help?
So when you go to > About This Mac - How it should say how much ram there. Click on More Info - And click on Memory - What is in those fields?

On the iPhone page I was told the iPhone 5 will work with iTunes 10.7, so maybe I shouldn't upgrade to iTunes 11 since a lot of people don't like it. Nobody here seems to know how to combine my two iTunes libraries on the same account but different-aged iMacs.
So the question is, if I upgrade my 2008 Intel iMac to Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion and iTunes 10.7, will it and my new iPhone 5 be able to access the 80GB library on the 10.6.1 version of iTunes on the older white 2005 iMac?
I appreciate any help anyone can give me. I currently have home sharing via a WiFi network, to rephrase in case my previous unanswered questions haven't been clear, I'm wondering if I will be able to home-share between 10.6.1 and 10.7, and if an iPhone 5 would be able to access a home-shared library on the older 10.6.1 version?Thanks for the link, Niel. That is correct.
You can download your music on to your MacBook but if hard drive space is an issue, you may wish to consider iTunes Match. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4914.
You set up match on your main computer and once this has been done you can sign into iTunes and match on your MacBook. You will be able to stream music anywhere you have a wifi connection.

Computer, great looks, runs great. Keyboard great looks and wonderful tactile feel.
Just one question. Why oh why, does a company like Apple avoid ergonomic standards. The 24 " iMac needs to be adjustable so it can be lowered so you can tilt it back a bit at the top. We are not all 6'+. Or give us an option of a shorter stand. Heck you could go ahead and charge for it if need be.
The keyboard. Nicest thing in a standard layout in years. Problem. Ergonomics. Heck lay it over a mold and split the keys a bit in the middle. You guys did it years ago, where are we now?

That's why I liked my iMac G4 so much.
With the new aluminum iMac I bought an ajustable table and lowered the legs so the table is 65 cm high ; perfect. -
I also wrote an e-mail on MobileMe and when I sent it I received a Firefox blocking a pop-up on that e-mail, something I have never seen before. When your girlfriend opened the Library with iPhoto v7 it was upgraded to the v7 format. V6 cannot read that format. She was warned about this when she opened the Library.
So, your options are as follows:
Upgrade your v6 to v7
Restore a v6 Library from Back Up
Recover your photos from the v7 library and start over from scratch.
That's it.

You can't do that.
The best that you can do is to copy and paste the history items to a bookmarks folder and export the bookmarks to an HTML file.
Then you can import that file in the other profile.
If both profiles are on the same computer and are open at the same time then you can use the clipboard to do the C&P.

Gdgmacguy : my friend , i tried all basics soft reset, hard reset on my iphone 4s..the phone is not booting at all its stuck red battery screen..even itunes is not recognising the device...
My other concern is, i started to use my spare iphone 3gs after my 4s gt dead..but 3gs is also showing same symptoms..randomn switch off and will boot only once conected to charger with plenty of charge..i tried to restore, reset on this device..im afraid it might crash as welll...so need a solution.. -
Had a problem yesterday and Google chrome replaced Firefox as my default browser without my knowledge. I removed Chrome from my system and can use Firefox. I have two icons for Firefox on my quick launch toolbar one says Beta6 the other Beta9 but both launch Beta 9 but my Add/Remove programs shows only Beta6 and will not remove it. It seems Beta9 is the only version on my system but was not updated in my Start menu.
If you updated from the beta 6 version to the beta 9 version then the beta 9 version has replaced the previous beta version. It can happen that the uninstall registry key of older versions isn't updated or removed and that seems to have happened in your case. So you have only the beta 9 version installed and an orphaned entry to uninstall the beta 6 version.
If you are comfortable in editing the registry then you can remove that entry.Otherwise it is better to leave it.<br />

IMac and new Thunderbolt displays
Has anyone seen anything on the max number of monitors with the 2011 iMac and the new Thunderbolt displays? Theoretically you could hook up 4 external monitors using the new Thunderbolt monitor + the 27' iMac display for a total of 5, 27' monitors. The Thunderbolt monitor was just announced and hasn't been released yet so maybe an Apple insider can answer the question.

By the looks of it I'm having the same problem as lots of people. Apple seem to have made the system of syncing and backing up 2 iphones as difficult as possible. I have just bought an iphone4 and synced it to my imac. I now have my wife's apps and content. Now when it try to back up my wife's phone using a seperate log in on my imac and a new itunes install I'm asked " do you want to sync and erase all of the details on my wifes phone or do I want to erase and sync and loose all her data. No option not to!!!! I thought it was maybe the inset of dementure but lots of people are having the same problem. How hard can it be to back up one phone at a time and only that phone? Backing up my Nokia was a doddle! I thought Apple were well know for. making things easy? I have also tried backing up my wife's to a seperate itunes but you cant export her contacts etc unless I have office and entourage which I don't. I cant back up her phone as it is with all it content and apps and start from scratch as I get only the sync and erase and destroy option. AAAGGGHHH
1) authorize iTunes on your wife's user account for her iTunes store account(s)
2) connect the device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred her purchases in the previous step, your content will be in her library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
