IMac Sleep Problem Waking - Screen Black and Pixelization

I am having a screen problem "waking" my iMac (2010 model)
After the iMac is in (deep?) sleep mode
(I have it set to enter a password after sleep mode)
Screen is blank/off
I "wiggle" my mouse or trackpad
Screen is still blank (sometimes it may display my screen saver, but the screensaver is frozen)
If I start moving the mouse or trackpad, it starts "un painting" the black screen. You can see whatever is supposed to be on the screen, such as the logon "button".
It is really wierd. Like a black "overlay" is painted on the resume from sleep screen. As I move my mouse or trackpad, it is basically erasing the black, to show what is underneath. Each movement of the mouse, erases a small black square.
I usually move my mouse around the middle of the screen to uncover the logon button. Press the logon button. The screen magically reappears as normal. I enter my password and system logs back on normally.
It only seems to be when the iMac is in (deep?) sleep mode. If the screen is just blank for short time: I move the mouse/trackpad, and the logon screen is immediately displayed normally.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
There is a few other treads on this issue e.g. on the macrumors site, but no solutions.
Thanks to all in advance.

Hi! When you say "the power light goes off once again" are you talking about the power light on the monitor or the computer? If it's on the computer then it's likely the computer but if it's the monitor it could be the monitor or the video card. You may have to find another monitor to troubleshoot it. Tom

it is possible that zoom maybe enabled i think double taping with three fingers should disable it.
or you can go into settings>general> assessability> zoom and turn it off.

    - Try a reset.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then connect to your computer and try to restore.
    - See if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - If the logo still show all the time, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try the above again.

  • PBG4 Titanium Onyx - Screen black and sleeps when display moved slightly

My PowerBook G4 has been going to sleep when I do any of the following:
    1) Move the display — _every time_
    2) Touch the lower row of keys on keyboard — sometimes
    3) Bump the computer — _most of the time_
Sometimes when I try to wake it from sleep, the sleep light will stop "breathing," but the screen is still black, although I can see a very faint image. (...my forum research has told me this is the backlight turning off). A slight movement of the display will bring the backlight back on, but of course the PB goes to sleep.
I have reset the PMU and the PRAM.
I am hoping that the backlight problem is associated with the sleep problem, and one fix will solve them both, but I guess that goes without saying.
Would prefer to fix it myself rather that take it to a repair shop; I am fairly adept at repairs, but don't want to get in over my head.
    Thanks Forum Gurus!

    *+It WAS!+*
It was a classic case of the Orange Ribbon Cable Issue/Fix.
I was discouraged at first because the addendum to your article suggested that this did not apply to the *_550 MHz TiBook_*. But the ribbon looked the same as your pictures, and when I looked at the ribbon +with a loupe+, I could see where the insulation was worn away. I put tape everywhere I could fit it and the PB is working fine. I can totally move the display and pound on the keys with impunity. (I use the word "pound" figuratively, of course).
Now that I know how to remove the bottom case and the HD, I am definitely going to replace the HD.
Do you know what the best and most capacity HD I can install?
Thank you abundantly for your expertise and that very helpful website.
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • Y 70-70 screen : problems with the black and white colors

Hi all, I just bought a Lenovo Y70-70 and already encountered several problems with the screen :- I had to change the notebook twice because of clearer zones on the black and because of dead pixels- The model I have now still presents irregularities in the black : if the screen is black, I can still see a few clearer zones on it, especially (but not exclusively) on the edges- concerning the white, I am a bit disappointed too : this color present zones that are sometimes ok, sometimes more yellow. Even if it is subtle, I nevertheless particularily see this effect when reading or typing, due to an optical effect that amplifies the phenomenom when text is displayed which tires my eyes. I also see it on colors like beige or grey. As I use this computer to play but also to work, it is uncomfortable. What I would like to know is if these problems are inherent to the screen, or if it is a defect. What should I do ? Did other people encounter the same problems ? I didn't find any setting to improve it. I found that these problems may be link to these, reported on the Y50-70 :- https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y50-Yellow-Dark-Yellow-Screen-Calibration/td-p/1868613- http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/RCQNONXIKJJ5D/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00MCJQ6MI#RCQNONXIKJJ5D Othewise this notebook is OK, playing with it is a real pleasure. Thank you for your answer,S.

Installation of Mavericks is the culprit here. Lightroom versions 4.4 and earlier are not fully compatible with OS 10.9.x. There will be no more updates to Lightroom version 4.x so the only fix is to upgrade Lightroom to 5.0 or later or reinstall an older OS on Mac.

There can be several things that could effect your issue. If you are using a color calibration device, it may change your white balance. Check and verify that you really are using pure white when filling, a value of 255, 255, 255 thats red, green, and blue. Check and see what color mode you are in, are you in 8 bit, 16 or 32 bit. Are you in RGB, CMYK, or other color mode.
I am sure there are a few other things, that I haven't thought of at the moment that can effect your issue.
The next question is what do you mean by black and white? or should I say how did you make it that way. Was it already a black and white (grayscale)? or did you convert it in photoshop and if so how. The reason I ask is there are more than one way to convert a color image to black and white and how you do it will effect the final outcome.

  • IMac - sleeping problem

    Hi Guys,
i have new model of iMac (Late 2012 with 10.8.3) and i have in my point of view problem with "deep sleep".
    1) after about 60 min (pmset -g, timer - autopoweroffdelay14400) away from keyboard iMac sleeps "deep sleep".
    2) no possible to wake-up with keyboard or mouse
    3) only power buttons work
    4) iMac needs two login, first for FileVault and second to the System (why ? on MacBook Air you need only one)
    5) all applications starts again (why ? The new start take 1 or 2 minutes :-((( On MacBook Air all applications starts where im finished, no restart, etc. I can working instantly without waiting)
    6) no applications (for example iTunes) can't prevent iMac from this type of sleep. If i listen to iTunes (music play, using remote to change albs, etc.) and after about 60 minutes away from the keyboard, iMac sleeps (why ?)
    7) in this type od sleep can't use remote desktop from through internet (use AirPort Extreme), no possible iMac to wake up (you need to push power button, why ?)
    8) in this type od sleep no application can't iMac wake-up. For example remote from iOS :-(
What i try to fix my problem:
    1) in pmset set sleep to 0, iMac now can wake-up with keyboard and mouse
    2) restart SMC and PRAM https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3603
    3) repair disk permissions http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452
    4) delete sleep file http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_remove_diskhogging_sleepimage_file_you r_mac (BTW: my sleep file have only 2G and i have 16G RAM)
    5) in pmset set autopoweroff to 0
    6) in pmset set hibernatemode to all modes
    7) in pmset set sleep to 0 (i try to sleep to never, but iMac sleeps again)
    8) in pmset set setautopoweroffdelay to 0
    Nothing helps :-(
Do you have any recommendation ? In next steps i try to erase whole system and install new vanilla and will see :-(((
Thank you guys ! Im so tired :-)))

Have you tried "fsck -fy" repairs under single-user mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1492
Reboot and hold down the Command (Apple) and S keys before the grey screen appears.
Wait for the command prompt, then type:
    sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat that command until "file system was modified" is no longer reported back, type:
    reboot
Or try Titanium Software's "Onyx": http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php (not affiliated)
Check your preferences for corruption: Under the "preferences" tab, within the "Verify" tab.
    Hope that helps.

  • Macbook air locks up instead of standby. Cannot wake with screen black and no sound. Have to hold power button for total restart. Happened with Mountain Lion and Maverick

I've had this issue since first buying my MBA mid-2013. Instead of going to standby, which works 98% of the time, every now and again it appears to go into standby with the screen black, but no amount of key pressing or mouse moving will wake it up. I am forced to hold down power button for a manual restart and faced with losing work. This problem has occured whilst using Mountain Lion and still occuring since updating to Maverick.

    Hi there, GoreLeech,
as per above extract from your error log, you have experienced a kernel panic due to problems with your Nvidea GeForce GT 330 M graphics card that has a 256 MB memory.
This may be due to the card not having enough memory for what you are doing, the only thing, I can suggest here is to call Apple, and get the machine checked out. You can run the Apple hardware test at home but I'd recommend getting it booked in with Apple. What is worse: A computer that randomly malfunctions, or doing without it for up to one week (often they repair it within a day!)?

  • Intel iMac sleep problem, need help !

My 17" Intel iMac has sleep problem past few days.
I use the Ctrl+Eject on the keyboard to put my iMac to sleep and it only needs 3 to 5 sec before.
But now I use same method, it got 30 sec. to sleep; same result thru Apple menu>sleep.
Used Onyx & repair permissions, still no change.
Anyone know what's the problem, how to fix it?
    Plz help!
    Thx!

    Danlam,
A simple SMC (System Management Controller) reset is known to resolve a lot of sleep/wake related issues.
Here's how to do the reset:
    - From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
    - Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    - Wait at least 15 seconds.
    - Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
    - Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
Follow this link to the Apple Article that describes the SMC and how to reset it in more detail: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
    Hope this helps you out.

  • Iphone start up screen black and white stripes

My iPhone 4S powers up with a black and white striped screen then goes black. If I do a reset, it will eventually come back, work properly, and then go black again. When plugged into power, with screen set never to sleep, it works.

    That's a sign of a hardware fault.
make an appointment at the genius bar and have it looked at.

  • N95 Display Problem. URGENT (Black and colorful mo...

    Hey everyone,
I have been having a problem with the display of my N95. The Display goes BLACK and i cant see anything on the screen. Then when i hit the back or side of the phone, the display appears but turn Red/orange/blue at times and also moves all over the place.. I have seen the screen go from right to left..
I would like to mention that everything works fine with the phone EXCEPT the display... I can see the keypad lights and it also makes the key sound when i press the keys..
    Anyone..? It's Urgent..

It's definitely a hardware problem with your phone. You need to take it to a nokia care point for repair. It will be free if your phone is under warranty and undamaged. If you are out of warranty you will have to pay. Only the care point can tell you the cost.

  • IPhone 4 screen black and white?

So, title might be a little misleading - I don't know, but my iPhone 4 has broken.
Basically, I can still hear it turn on etc, still hear when I get a message or a phone call and so on, and it vibrates when I put it on charge etc. What I'm trying to get across is the phone is 100% functional... except one thing.
The screen is black. That's right, black. It lights up a tad when you press the sleep button as you usually would to get into the phone, which makes me think the LED's are still working and connected.
Oh, also, this just happened when I picked up my phone one time. Just black out of nowhere.
    What I've tried:
Recovering phone (Phone wont recover for unexpected error).
Holding down home and power button for 10 seconds (only worked once out of about 100 times, where the Apple logo showed up, then the screen faded to white then went from white to black and the phone was off again).
Opening the back of phone to see if a connector has come loose (It hasn't).
So, basically, if anyone could help I'd be extremely grateful.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    What do you mean?
I have no warranty as it ran out ages ago, so I can't send it in either.
    Thank you.
