IMac slow/freezing when running iTunes
Hello all,
I have an iMac that seems to run flawlessly unless I open iTunes. It is extremely slow and freezes everything on the computer. If I close iTunes via the activity monitor, the system snaps right back into action. I've browsed many solutions here and none work for me. (disabling genius, resetting pram or whatever it's called). iTunes is 11.0.4. I have Max OS X 10.7.5. I have 4GB of memory and I have plenty of free hard drive space. I'm at a loss on what to do to fix this.
Here is a few lines from the log. I simply opened iTunes and just tried to do a few things, such as goto the iTunes store, view my library (everything is in the cloud). I have to use Activity Monitor to fully close iTunes.

IMac 27" freezes when running 3D games
Hi,
I tried looking for my issue using the search but haven't found it. So please apologize if I missed an existing thread.
I'm using a late 2009 27" inch iMac i5 (ATI Radeon HD 4850) with 10.8.1 installed.
Everything works fine so far but 3D games.I tried World of Warcraft and CounterStrike: Global Offensive. Either game causes my iMac to freeze 1-10 minutes after launch.
The screen freezes but the mouse pointer can still be moved. I even continue to hear the game sound and the teamspeak client in the background keeps working properly as well.
When I SSH into my iMac from my MacMini I can access the system jsut fine. If I then locate the task and kill it ("kill -9 <PID>"), the game sound dies, but the screen doesn't change.
The only way to get my iMac working properly again is by switching it off&on.
I tried to fix it by closing all open apps in the background - no joy.
I also repaired the permissions using the disk utility.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
SvenI just reinstalled 10.8.1 from scratch after wiping the HDD. I also restored all my files from my time capsule.
After a fresh installation of Wow the behaviour now has slightly changed:
After the game crashes, the screen turns black. A couple of seconds later it turns white and after waiting another 5-10 sec. I get the OS message that my system has crashed and that the computer will reboot. And it does reboot
On the error report it reads:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801b49dadb): "TLB invalidation IPI timeout: " "CPU(s) failed to respond to interrupts, unresponsive CPU bitmap: 0x8, NMIPI acks: orig: 0x0, now: 0x0"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2050.9.2/osfmk/x86_64/pmap.c:2337
I can post the whole report if anybody is interested...
Thanks,
Sven -
For the past 60 days I've experienced Main Menu freeze when running more than one application at a time. iPhoto, Preview, Text Edit, Epson Scan, Firefox and Thunderbird are the apps I use almost daily. No matter what I do, when more than one is running they will freeze the Main Menu (top of the screen). I've tried booting is Safe Mode and I don't seem to have a problem. I've tried several suggestions from repairing permission (DiskUtility) to eliminating specifis login items. Nothing works. I've posted this issue on the Apple forum several times and no one else has experienced this problem. I hesitate to take my iMac to the Apple Store or a private Apple repair service until I've exhausted all of my options. Do I have any more options?
Question: Everytime an app crashes I have the option to report it to Apple - which I usually do. But I've NEVER reported a Main Menu freeze because it never asks me to
There's really no need to submit to Apple, it's just a round file cabinet on the other end, especially with 10.6 or earlier.
This sure sounds like a resource problem...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts? -
Imac keeps freezing when using safari
my imac keeps freezing when using safari or finder
The beachball appears and I have to wait.
My safari cache is emptied, have run Disk Utility to check permissions.
Rebooted various times.
Sorted out ``the community toolbar not supported" issue and still it's happening.
Anyone any tips on what to do next??
It's a 24 inch iMac - early 2009 version
Processor is 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Software is OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)I have only been able to read your reply by going online on my phone -
I started up my iMac in safe mode on Saturday morning and reran Disk Utility , no problems.
I shut it down and re started it as normal. Whilst I was able to use my Mail and MS entourage and Safari brower,
the computer was very slow and the beachball appeared briefly each time I used a program.
On Monday , it didn't recognise one of the printers and was continually hanging.
All software is up to date and I have run Disk Utility - repair permissions again.
I shut the computer down yesterday and rebooted in Safe mode this afternoon so that I could try to look in
Console.

Application Errors when running iTunes in Windows 7
I am getting the following Errors in Windows when running iTunes 9. Seems to only occur when I want to view anything in the iTunes store or when listening to any music in my library that was purchased from the store.
- I have removed and reinstalled the product.
- I have been successful in replicating this issue on 2 other Windows 7 and Vista machines.
- I am running the Windows 7 Pro RTM 32bit (not the RC or Beta) and Vista Business SP2. All 3 machines worked fine before the upgrade to iTunes 9.

--------------------------------------------------------------Hummmmmm,
I had similar problem today with a laptop with Itunes / Vista
The issue occured when it was connected to the internet. Error message is related to Itunes.dll in the event viewer, and Itunes crashed.
I fixed it by checking the internet options / connection. Just make sure to have unchuck all proxy related option if you are directly connected to the internet.
Tell me if it fixed the issue.
Itunes crashed because it tried to use a proxy setting that was configured but not set to any adress (there was a blank line). -
I'm trying to update iTunes on my mac (Power Mac G5 running tiger), but it always freezes at 'Running itunes installer script'. I have tried a few different versions of iTunes, but I have the same problem with all of them. I'm stuck on version 4 (which came with my os discs)! Help?!
Ok, First this link should solve the windows scripting host error. I used "Download windows script host" in a google search and it was the first hyperlink.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C717D943-7E4B-4622-86EB -95A22B832CAA&displaylang=en
I'm assuming you are trying to run the installer from apple. What I would suggest is you download the installer manually to your desktop then launch the installer. If try to run the installer over the intertubes you may run into a problem like you did.
Then I would uninstall itunes 8 and any software associated with it like the apple update software, quicktime, apple mobile device support. However uninstalling itunes should remove any additional software it installs. Then clean out your temp folder:
6. Clean out your temp folders,
a. C:\windows\temp (if one exists)
b. C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
Sometimes installers will pick up old files or won’t delete their temporary files.
Then with a newly download installer on your desktop try launching it. Let me know if that helps.
Here is an apple doc that help.

20" iMac freezes when running Google Earth
This is the only problem I've ever had with my Mac and it is consistent. After running Google Earth for about 10-15 minutes the screen freezes and I have to force shutdown and reboot to rectify the problem.
I did some temperature measurements at the vent in the back and noticed a considerable temperature rise when running Google Earth. I think my graphics card is getting a serious workout and may go into thermal overload.
Has anyone else experienced this?Hi dicoll
I can think of two thing that might cause the issue you describe:
_The first is how much ram is installed in your iMac?_
If your system is running low on available ram and paging out to the HD, when your running Google Earth it will cause the program to hesitate and or freeze. Try using the Activity Monitor, to monitor your ram usage and also to check for a failed process.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107918
_The second is what you describe as a thermal issue!_
To monitor temp's and fan speeds for a thermal issues there is the iStatPro widget. (Note the temp. for the GPU Diode)
http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
And then for monitoring and adjust the fan speeds there is smcFanControl Application.

My computer is a Dell with 4bg RAM. It works perfect, with internet and several programs runing cpu usage goes upt to 60% top. normaly runs at 155 top, but as soon as I start itunes it goes to 100% and remains there making almost imposible to use the computer, even loading files to the library takes several minutes and trying to conect my ipod is almost5 imposible. I sude this pc before with itunes and ipod with no problmes. I appreciate any help on this
I'm having the same issue for more than a month. When it's not open it's draing the cpu making the pc run slow and when open the cpu is maxxed at 100% that the I can barely use the computer and can't sync. And I only use it to back up and sync. Just downloaded the new version today thinking it would help but it didn't. Interesting to see if anyone has any answers.

1.5 sometimes freezes when running statements with F9
I had noticed occasional freezes when hitting F9 with 1.5.0 production (ie three or four times last week), but after upgrading to 1.5.1 today (fresh install, migrated preferences) I have had four or five freezes when hitting F9. The UI completely freezes before showing the progress bar and there is no redraw, but it isn't using any CPU (and CPU is 95%+ idle), nothing appears on the console (started using <SQL Dev Install>\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe) and if I leave it long enough the memory usage drops from 150K+ to back between 1K to 4K (sometimes quickly, sometimes not).
I am on Win XP SP 2, using SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40 with JDK 1.6.0_04.
Initially, I upgraded to 1.5.1 from 1.5.0 as a Check for Updates, but tried the clean install (including renaming preferences directory) after the first freeze.
Has anyone else seen this? Can someone from the SQL Dev team provide any help? Is there something else I can do to help narrow this down?
theFurryOneSame thing in very similar circumstances - query with bind variables previously executed, freezes on execute without showing bind variable window. Using no appreciable CPU in this state, but after a minute or so memory usage started to increase in 4 or 8K chunks.
I've also been seeing this intermittently in all builds of 1.5.

Read & Applied Other Threads Win Still Fatally Crashes When Running iTunes
I updated all the drivers on the system to the latest from the manufacturer websites yesterday. I then installed and ran WinDbg it is telling me RtkHDAud.sys (R+k HDAud+179e98) is the culprit causing a double fault. When I disable Realtek High Definition Audio in Device Manager my PC runs all day no hitches. I can even open iTunes and have it run in the background without trouble BUT of course I can't hear anything. Soon as I enable the audio card and run iTunes the system won't stay up for more than four minutes sometimes less. I can run Winamp without trouble BUT I DON'T WANT TO ! I have my iTunes library on an external Western Digital USB Hard Disk Drive, maybe this is the problem? Any direction I could try would be greatly appreciated. Best solution I can think of at this point is to get a squeeze box and just take the sound card out? Here is the Mini Dump from WinDbg

UNEXPECTEDKERNEL_MODE_TRAPM (1000007f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a portion of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

---------I haven't a clue about this but one thing I would suggest is to try running Quicktime and playing audio,
It is possible that Quicktime is the culprit not iTunes as iTunes uses QUicktime to play music.
If it is quicktime and you really have installed the latest High Definition audio driver, then it probably worth trying a complete removal of QUicktime according to the method in this article. It is important to remove the Quicktime files from the system32 folder as recommended in the article.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Then download and install the stand alone version of Quicktime.
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
It might also be worth going to your QUicktime preferences audio tab and checking safe mode to see if that makes any difference. -
Imac pointer freezes when installing OSX,
Imac intel 2010, mac freezes when Scrolling (Safari, Adobe PDFreader. called support, they suggested a hardwaretest, done that result OK.
Than they suggest to clean HD and to instal OSX.6 again.
Deleted HD. Try to do new installiation OSX6 from dvd, Imac freezes again during installation for several times at ca. 32 minutes to go.
What can i do?You can attempt to reset the PRAM in the machine, but it looks as though there's a hardware problem. It's actually kind of difficult to determine if it's the graphics hardware or the mainboard, but neither are really servicable. You'll want to take it to get serviced.

Non-MAC laptop fan too loud when running iTunes
Recently I experienced very loud/fast spin fan with heated laptop whenever I run iTunes, especially if I downloading apps. And it wasn't brief. Spin vigorously throughout the downloading process. I never experienced this problem before. I am using iPhone 4S with latest iTunes on VAIO laptop. And this problem actually not permit me to install large updates (iOS), therefore, I am still using iOS 5.XX
yes, it is normal for them to run on the hot side, especially when using programs like photoshop.

Computer freezes when running RESMAN with VME crate powered down
I have lost the whole day today (thankfully it was only one day) trying to fix this annoying problem, I'm posting here in case someone runs into this same thing in the future.
Ok, the problem I was able to reproduce was:
1. Run RESMAN with the crate powered--> OK
2. Power down crate.
3. Run RESMAN: the whole computer freezes in the "Searching for Statically Configured Devices" step, no way to recover (reboot necessary)
Although this is the problem I was able to reproduce, the system also froze sometimes when not running RESMAN and powering down the crate for cards insertion or extraction.
My system:
- VME crate
- VME-MXI-2 in slot 0
- MXI-2 Cable
- PCI-MXI-2
- Windows XP Pro SP3
- NI-VXI 3.1.1 and 3.7, MAX 2.?, 3.1.1, 4.6.2, 4.7.4
It turns out MXI-2 cables are not symmetric, when I switched both ends between PCI and VME, everything worked as it should.
Here's another post of someone that had a similar problem (and whose answer didn't solve mine):
http://forums.ni.com/t5/VXI-and-VME/MAX-and-whole-comp-gets-freeze-when-I-tried-to-run-RESMAN/m-p/17...
Here's a page that describes the error: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/53DC9B3C2BCB6C7D862564800051EC9F
I was not able to find that page (I found it when I had already solved the problem), probably because you would never expect that a cable whose appearance is completely symmetric is in fact orientation dependent. And, no, my cable (NI original) doesn't come with any labels identifying its ends.
And here are some keywords to ease the discovery of this post using different terms
PC Computer Windows XP hangs freezes locks crashes Resman MAX Measurement and Automation Explorer MXI orientation dependant VME crate switched off powered downThis wouldn't happen to be a seagate GoFlex drive would it? I've had similar problems with that line of drives, sometimes to the point where everything stops working, and if I manually unplug it, the system catches up and starts working again.

My macBookAir freezes when I am using iTunes. The mouse won't move and I have to manually turn the computer off and then on again, sometimes several times. I just downloaded an upgrade to iTunes, and it had trouble restarting .

Crystal report run from ASP code significantly slower than when run in CRS
We have CRS XI R2. I developed a report that contains several on-demand sub-reports. The report and sub-reports are very fast when run directly from CRS. However, when I run from ASP (users run a link from the intranet), it takes 4 times longer (1 second on CRS, vs. 5-10 seconds on intranet). The report takes longer, bringing up a sub-report takes longer and paging through sub-reports take longer. What can be done to improve the speed of the report that is using the ASP code? I used a sample program provided at this support site to develop the report and it is pretty basic code. The only time I have a problem is when I have many sub-reports. Since they are on-demand, I do not know why this would matter.
This has been created as an incident with SAP support. Things that you will want to check is making sure that you handle the postback to the code as you do not need to run your entire code on every postback. This will help performance after the original load.
One other thing is to compare performance with the viewer within Infoview that uses the same backend server as your application, ie PSReportFactory uses the page server, so you'll want to test with the DHTML viewer. RAS code (reportclientdocument) uses the Report Application Server so you will want to test with the Advanced DHTML viewer.
