Home has two desktop computers. Modem and router are near PC in front of house. Apple desk top is in rear location of home. Early August, 2011, firefox was updated from front computer. Since then, apple computer has had inconsistent online experiences. Sometimes it is not possible to get online while front PC has not problem. This is annoying for the apple user. And the problem started only after updating Firefox. Please help! Thnx.

  • Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

I am having the same issue. I hook it up to the charger in the evening and close the lid. When I go to use it the next time it takes a good 30 seconds or so to wake up. The screen shows the log in screen but typing doesn't work and the cursor is frozen. Sometimes it will even give the rainbow wheel for the cursor, so it seem like it is processing whatever to get going. I also notice that my battery won't be fully charged at anywhere from 95%-99% after being charged a full evening. What can I do to change whatever is happening because it is pretty crappy to charge it all night expecting to have a full battery for the next use, plus the issue of having to sit there waiting for it to boot every time.

    Hi Scott.
There is a problem - but Apple have not acknowledged it. Many people on these forums are experiencing the same issue.
To get something done, you should report it here. The more of us that tell Apple about it, the more likely they are to fix it. You could also send a short email headed 'Apple TV update problems' to

Why does ibooks keep telling me it can't connect to iTunes? I have purchased a book I can't download. All updates done, restarted, reinstalled...

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • All application slow to molasse after Installing Security-Update 2010_007

After installing security update, ALL applications, all commands in X11 had response times ALL key strokes of the order of seconds to minutes with >93% of system CPU idle. Console displays the message below ever 60-70 seconds.
    11/11/10 4:25:36 PM updatedyld_sharedcache[12] for arch=i386 failed: read failure copying dylib errno=5 for /System/Library/Frameworks/Accelerate.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/vecLib.fr amework/Versions/A/libLAPACK.dylib while copying /System/Library/Frameworks/Accelerate.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/vecLib.fr amework/Versions/A/libLAPACK.dylib to shared cache
The solution is a modification of this link
    http://www.macosxhints.ch/forums/showthread.php?t=15517
Basically, the offending file /System/.../LibLAPACK.dylib is moved from the system directory to a current directory, e.g.,
    sudo mv /System/Library/Frameworks/Accelerate.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/vecLib.fr amework/Versions/A/libLAPACK.dylib .
and then back to the original directory, e.g.,
    sudo mv libLAPACK.dylib /System/Library/Frameworks/Accelerate.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/vecLib.fr amework/Versions/A/libLAPACK.dylib
Problem solved without reboot as system immediately returns to normal. Why would a security update from Apple cause this?

Andreas, do you have this info in english? I'm having a similar problem, and I want to see if I can solve it; or could you tell me what you did to solve it?
Here's the message I'm getting every minute from the console:

  • Intel imac slow to to to sleep since 10.6.8 update

Since upgrading my Intel iMac to 10.6.8 a few days ago, it is slow to go to sleep. After clicking on sleep, (or using Opt/Command/Eject), it takes between 20 and 30 seconds to go to sleep. Same problem when shutting it down. Restart is still as fast as before. I used Disk Utility to check the permissions and had to run Repair, because the permissions were so messed up. Restarted it after that, but sleep problem continues to exist. I want to upgrade to Lion, but wondering if I should figure this problem out first. Any ideas?  Thanks!

Got the answer on another question - consider this solved! (i was using older keystroke commands).

  • Slow to respond after sleep

    Hi all,
    I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro running OS 10.8.2.
Unfortunately most of the time my computer is unresponsive for about 2 minutes when coming out of sleep. This happens when I close the lid of the computer, then re-open it the next day (say >8 hours). The screen will show an image, but does not respond to mouse or keyboard. After 2 minutes it will start responding again.
I have already tried clearing the NVRAM (think that what it is called?) and the other item that can be cleared from booting (sorry forgot the term). However this has not helped.
I have pasted below the data from Console after the PC is taken out of sleep at 15:05 (note, didn't become responsive until 15:06), as well as what was happening an hour earlier while the lid was still closed...
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks
    Oliie

    Hi There
Sorry to bump this, but I haven't yet recieved any replies, and I would quite like to find out what the problem is behind this.
Also, to add to the problem, the computer is now generally really slow all the time, not just after sleeping.
    Thanks in advance
    Cuby

  • Unable to turn imac on or off after sleep mode

I have a fairly new iMac and I installed Leopard yesterday. When the computer goes to sleep, I am unable to get it back on by either pressing the keyboard or the power button. The only thing I can do is to unplug and re-plug the computer. When the computer comes back on, I get a message that OS X unexpectedly was interrupted, so I know the operating system is still running in the background.
Has anybody else had this problem or can recommend a solution. I now set my preferences so that the computer will never go to sleep.

I have a similar problem of "video freeze" on my 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4 15 inch with an Apple 21 inch display attached. The large display is exclusive since the powerPC is run with the display lid closed.
Upon wake up after sleep, the video screen stays black, but I hear disk noise in the background indicating some level of 10.5 operation.
The only recovery I've found so far is to open the display lid on the PowerPC and press the power key until reboot.

  • IMac looks like this after todays Yosemite Update

My iMac now looks like this after todays Yosemite Update. Is this iOS or Hardware issues ?

Well I managed to get the Snow Leopard disk out and restarted the mac using OS X Recovery. I've selected the option to reinstall OS X. I'm at a screen that is asking me to 'Select the disk where you want to install OS X'. I'm presented two options one labeled 'EFI' and the other 'Recovery HD'. I chose the later but it's been sitting on a spinning beach ball for 30 minutes now so I can't select 'Install' to proceed. Any idea what has happened to my mac? A hard drive failure I assume or something else?

  • Can't get online after switching from a Dell

    Can anyone help me?
I just switched to a PowerBook G4 from using a Dell, and now I can't get online. I'm using a cable modem, but apparently my Apple won't recognize it. I talked to Apple tech support for over an hour, and they sent me to the Apple store who, of course, couldn't duplicate my problem. The guy at the store said this happens a lot when you switch from a Windows machine to a Mac because the modem "knows" which computer it should be trying to connect to. My Apple won't receive an IP address from the modem, and neither Apple nor my cable company can fix it. I've never used an Apple before and I'm getting really frustrated!
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    You're welcome.
Copied from the link I provided.
The Apple Hardware Test was originally distributed on a separate Apple Hardware Test CD. The latest Macs distribute the Apple Hardware Test on a special volume on the Software Restore and Install DVD. Each Apple Hardware Test is specific to the type and model of Mac with which it was distributed.
Since the Apple Hardware Test is included on the Software Restore and Install DVD that shipped with your Mac when purchased, Apple won't just send you another one.
Your employer needs to give you the OS X install package that shipped with this Mac when purchased to keep handy. Although there is an alternative, to run Disk First Aid repair on the hard drive to check for any hard drive directory problems requires booting the computer from the OS X install disc #1 that shipped with this Mac when purchased.
Check Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures with instructions for running Disk First Aid repair on the hard drive.
This is also recommended before installing a major OS X update such as 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 which is expected to be released soon.
See Installing software updates for future reference.
Since you are new to Macs and OS X, check Maintaining Mac OS X for recommended maintenance for OS X which isn't much but also good info to know for future reference.

  • IMac slow on startup after installing Mavericks

    Hi,
Like others I have been experiencing my mid 2011 iMac being slow on startup (and a little slow after that). I've read a lot of threads about this and was wondering how to approach it.
I was already thinking of buying  more RAM ( I currently have 4GB) and updrading to Yosemite, does anyone think this may help rather than going through many diagnostic steps with Mavericks?
..... or am I likely to find myself back in the same position!
    Jon
P.S. i know the Apple site says no RAM is available for this model, but one of the more experienced posters supplied a link to a site which implies that there is.

    Hi there,
    Here's the report.
By the way, with just Firefox and Aperture open, here is a copy of my Activity Monitor:
The swap used seems to be a very recent thing, until a few days ago it read 0.
The slowness is after startup - things bounce in the dock and safari takes nearly 10 secs to open, but if the Mac has been on a little while, or if it's been on sleep, then things run ok. There are other things I have noticed like some of the Aperture functions being slower and a bit clunky - this seems to have a been a constant feature since I upgraded to Mavericks and upgraded Aperture to go with it.
Any help you can give is appreciated.
    Jon

  • IMac won't wake after sleep

    Hi
I have a brand new iMac 21.5" with Hybrid drive.
Its OS and apps are fully update to date.
Strange thing is that it won't wake from sleep.
To reboot, I have to turn the power off at the wall and back on again. Neither of the usual
wake/reboot processes work (holding the power button briefly or holding the power button for
    > 10 seconds). No combination of opt/ctrl/cmd/power work either. I have to turn it off at the wall
and back on again, after which it immediately boots.
I've reset the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM.
I've checked the power options - which are set to defaults (sleep after 15 IIRC).
I've also checked the console log at the time of sleep - and there is no indication of anything
going wrong (an example is below).
Does anyone have any other ideas as to what I can try before going through the painful process
of sending it into the shop?
    Many thanks.
    Paul.
Console log below. You can see the machine went to sleep after 12:05pm, and I woke it up and 8:20pm. There seem to be no unusual messages in the middle.

I have gone to the apple support team - and they took me to the standard apple "what happens if your mac won't turn on" page
(If your Mac won't turn on - Apple Support) and walked me through the standard checks (which I'd already done).
The support guy thought it was a bad driver - I'm not so sure as I haven't installed anything new (just updates).
Anyway - I was just hoping/wondering someone in the wider community had seen this issue before I take the machine
    in for servicing.

  • Slow start up after sleep

    hey all,
when I wake my computer up from sleep it makes a gearing up noise as if the hard drive is getting ready, and the screen stays black for 7 seconds, then blue for about 3 seconds, and then finally the desktop appears. All of the other iMacs that I've used start up immediately, and this slow wake from sleep is affecting the performance of some of my important applications. Does anyone know how to speed the wake from sleep issue?

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Let us know if this helps,
    Miriam
