Imac small cd problem

hi fellows;
i use imac with windows 7 and today i tried small cd and it not worked and not given back the small cd i urgently need to use the cd rom can anyone help me?

You must never insert any CD/DVD othere than standard size ones into any slot-loading optical drive, and Apple do specifically warn against doing so in their product manuals.
I have successfully removed a small non-stadard CD from my friend's MacBook Pro by tipping the machine so the drive opening faces down and giving the machine a GENTLE tap (I'm not sure I would try this with my iMac though!!! But if you do then make sure you have shut your system down and disconnected it from power and all peripherals first!).
However, I think you will need to take your machine to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Repairer to have the small CD removed.

    I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem.  Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos?  Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?

    The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
    iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.

  • Frozen iMac with Network problems

    I have a 21.5 inch iMac purchased around Nov'12. Three days ago, suddenly no web page could be opened. I thought it to be a problem of my router but when I found out that I was able to use the Internet perfectly from my MacBook, I restarted my iMac but the problem remained. I shut it down & then restarted it... Now it showed only a white screen with the Apple logo on it and the waiting symbol. This remained till hours until I got irritated and switched off the power supply. I switched on the next consecutive days but the problem persisted. Today fortunately my iMac started.. The home screen has come... It is able to recognise my wifi & Ethernet but does not open any web page. Going to system preferences and then to Networks is hanging the system preferences window. When I force quit it, it says to file a report to Apple.... But the problem doesn't get solved... I always believed Apple as a company whose products never hanged up or faced hardware or software issues!!!

    Hello,
    If 10.7.0 or later...
    Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions, reboot.
    If you still have problems, this has worked for a few...
    Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
    System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
    System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
    The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
    Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
    Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
    For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • I have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

    i have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

    FCE was discontinued nearly 3 years ago and is no longer supported.
    I don't know whether it's possible to install it on Mavericks and if you do it may not perform properly.
    Final Cut pro X and iMovie are the only Apple apps that are supported.

  • What is the technical 'cause' of the infamous iMac black screen problem?

    Can anybody shed some light on what technical malfunction exactly causes the infamous iMac black screen problem? The common solution seems to be a logic board replacement. But what exactly is broken on the logic board? Is it the Geforce chip? Some kind of external driver circuitry? Or something completely different?

    I was referring to the many problems also described in this thread (and also in many other places):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=196774&tstart=0
    In specific I am referring to machines where all of this applies:
    - internal monitor stays black after power-on
    - computer boots normally
    - external display works normally
    - internal display backlight works and can be adjusted in brightness, but all pixels are black
    - PRAM reset doesn't help
    - NVRAM reset doesn't help
    - PMU reset doesn't help
    - reinstalling OS / booting from CD doesn't help
    - machines with this problem sent to repair come back with a replaced logic board
    I'm looking for more information on the technical cause of the exact problem as stated above. So I can attempt to repair my iMac

  • Small SQL problem

    Hello,
    I have a small SQL problem...
    I am designing an online bank using servlets for a university project and it allows customers to view their statements. They select which of their account numbers they want to view the statement for and the start and end date of the statement.
    The problem lies with the dates. Here is the SQL:
    SELECT date, details, amount, balance
    FROM HISTORY
    WHERE bankaccnumber=13494925 And date>=1/1/01 And date<=31/1/01;
    All of the books I have looked at show dates in '1/1/01' format but whenever I try it this way I get a 'Data type mismatch in criteria expression' error (the 'date' field in the Database IS a Date type).
    Although, whenever I run the query in Access and prompt the user to enter the start and end date, it works fine.
    I have spoken to a few people and no-one seems to know why it is not working.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks

    If your database is MS Access and you don't expect to switch to something else, then write this:
    SELECT date, details, amount, balance
    FROM HISTORY
    WHERE bankaccnumber=13494925 And [date]>=#1/1/01# And [date]<=#1/31/01#
    Note that you MUST format your dates as MM/DD/YY and not as DD/MM/YY, that's an Access rule, and that you will probably have to "quote" your column name "date", which I think is a reserved word in SQL and hence a bad choice for column name.
    Personally I always use PreparedStatements. That way my SQL would look like this:
    SELECT date, details, amount, balance
    FROM HISTORY
    WHERE bankaccnumber=13494925 And date>=? And date<=?
    and I would use the setDate() method to fill in the parameters. Since this method uses a Date as a parameter, I don't need to fight with date formats, the JDBC driver handles that for me.

  • Can Lincat find big endian and small endian problem?

    Hi, I want to migrate a project from linux to solaris. And I read that lincat can save a lot of time in migration. But when I tried with lincat. I found that what is found is mainly the difference between linux API and solaris API. I use the following
    codes:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <stdlib.h>
    int main(int argc, char *argv[])
    int flagVal = 0x01020304;
    char cptr = (char )&flagVal;
    printf("Val is %d\n", *cptr);
    my lincat does not find the big endian and small endian problem. I also wonder whether lincat can find the misaligned problem and "32 bits and 64 bits" problem. Could you please tell me? I didn't find the answer from lincat manual.

    Hi Ankit,
    You may use "Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces" method if the endian format is different between source and target platforms. Please have a look at Oracle's "Platform Migration Using Transportable Tablespaces" document for more information: http://www.oracle.com/au/products/database/maa-wp-11g-platformmigrationtts-129269.pdf
    Please note that "Transportable Database" is a different feature and can only be used to migrate a new database platform that has the same endian format.

  • IMac EFI update problems

    My Mid 2011 iMac 27" i7 will no longer start after the latest EFI update.
    I decided to perform some system updated on my iMac and after installing 10.7.3, I rechecked and it found the EFI update and one other update. They were both pretty small (the largest was 3.6MB), so I decided to proceed prior to getting back to business with my system.
    After downloading the updates (took about 5 seconds), the machine proceeded to restart. There was a loud beep prior to the system restart chime after which it went to the grey-white apple startup screen with the spinning wheel.
    And it stayed there.
    After 35 minutes with no discernable progress, I decided something must be wrong. This system normally takes about 30 seconds to boot from a cold state (it's running on an OWC SSD) or maybe a minute after updates. So I held the power button to reboot. But it keeps going to the same state. I tried to reboot to a different internal drive holding the option key, but the same thing happens.
    System Specs:
    iMac 27" i7 3.4 Ghz (mid 2011) 12G Ram
    Internal 1TB Apple HD
    Internal OWC SSD 240G (main startup drive)
    Here are my questions:
    1. How do I recover from this?
    2. Is anyone else running into this problem?
    3. How long do the EFI updates normally take?
    4. Shouldn't there be some sort of "progress bar" to indicate something is going on during this process? Or, if not, then perhaps a "WARNING!! This process will take up to two hours, during which you will receive no discernable feedback. Do not interrupt the process until more than 24 hours have passed with the spinning ball."
    Thanks for your help.
    Jason Cox
    P.S. I think this is my last iMac EFI update. After my last iMac received an EFI update (2009 model 24" iMac), it became ultra-flakey and started corrupting HD's. It never worked the same after that. This machine was working PERFECTLY before the update.

    I don't have the link to that thread, but here is how to do it:
    To reset the SMC:
    Shut down your system.
    Unplug all the accessories from the system
    Unplug the power cord from the iMac and leave it unplugged for at least 15 seconds.
    Reconnect the power cord. Wait another fifteen seconds and restart the computer.
    To Reset the PRAM:
    On startup, hold down these keys at the same time (must start before the grey screen comes up): command option  p  r
    Hope that helps.

  • Apple sent REFURBED Imac with Drive problems vs NEW ONE i bought

    I bought a BRAND new Imac from the store 3 weeks ago and right away there were signs that it WAS NOT.
    The first time I turned it on, it asked me to set up Panther and I did...over and over and over again because apparently theres a notorious "infinite loop" glitch that usually occurs when someone UPDATED the system. If this was brand new, you would think that there would be no need for that.
    After 4 hours, I manage to bypass it by putting in the startup disks and virtually restarting hte computer.
    Then, the startup disk won't spit out. I called Apple Support and they said well, theres no way to fix it unless I haul the entire system to apple or paid an ungodly sum of money to have a technician come.
    This was day 1 of owning the computer.
    Day 5, it miraculous spit out the startup cd.
    Other problems: now my comp won't boot camp windows. it will partition the drive and then when I put in the disc, it will say 'no installation cd found.'It runs SUPER a lot of times despite me only having MS Word open. Today, I tried to get it to spit out the CD to install a router and its stuck again.
    So my question is: a) how do i get the cd out again? (I tried the Command O fix, Cmd C fix, credit card)
    and b) who do I contact to yell at apple for this? I strongly believe they sent me a used product and I don't want it to be replaced with another used product. I paid $200 over a Refurb for a new computer. Theres no email and everyone on the phone seems to be from a small Asian country with no idea what I'm talking about.
    c) If all else fails, I know apple users have been really successful in filing small claims suits but how would I go about doing so?

    {quote} a) how do i get the cd out again?{quote}
    It is probably just a bad drive. Bring it in to have it serviced like Apple had recommended.
    {quote}b) who do I contact to yell at apple for this?{quote}
    For what? Sounds like you received a computer with a bad optical drive which is covered under the warranty. You have absolutely no reason to yell at anyone, but the customer service number is in the box...
    {quote}c) If all else fails, I know apple users have been really successful in filing small claims suits but how would I go about doing so?{quote}
    Talk to an attorney, but considering you refused to have the machine serviced or exchanged you would have little chance of anyone even caring about your problem.
    {quote}Theres no email and everyone on the phone seems to be from a small Asian country with no idea what I'm talking about.{quote}
    Don't lie to us. There is an email with every sale that can be tracked by the customer as well as Apple. Considering the fact that you don't even know what you're talking about how do you expect someone else to respond? You claim that your machine came with Panther, however, no machine Apple has sold in the last two or more years would even be capable of running it. Any machine that would be capable of running Panther would not be able to run boot camp.
    {quote}I strongly believe they sent me a used product and I don't want it to be replaced with another used product.{quote}
    Absolutely nothing you provided would give me, or anyone else, a reason to believe that you received a refurbished machine. Given the fact that you refused warranty repair and are paranoid about exchanging it, I don't understand how anyone on this forum can help you.

  • Imac internet connection problem (says connected, won't load any website)

    I cant begin to express the incredible amount of frustration I have had with trying to get a fully loaded Imac 2011 connected to the internet.  I am currently residing in Dakar Senegal, using Sonatel Orange as a service.
    I am on a network where EVERY SINGLE piece of gear connected to it works 100%, including my ipad, cell phone, Asus PC. I have no connection issues and as of now typing this message on the very same network that the IMAC appears to have a problem.
    I have called tech support and they walked me through several steps which resolved nothing so I am hoping the community can help me.
    Whether I connect to my router directly with an ethernet cable, or use the wireless to connect, it give me green lights, says its connected to the isp but not to the internet.  Obviously the internet works on this network or I would not be sending this message from my PC.
    DNS was the same as the router and the same as the one on my PC.  I even tried 8.8.8.8 and that did not resolve the issue.  Like I said it says connected to the ISP but the internet and server lights are red on the IMAC diagnostic tool.  Everytime I try to connect the IMAC to the internet via the router via wireless or the ethernet cable, It does nothing, and actually I have to reboot the router to get it to work for the PC or any other device.  Its as if the IMAC does something to the router and requires a reboot to reset it.
    IT is DHCP enabled, thus not a PPPOE connection.
    If I cannot get this resolved, I will be boxing up a $2500 machine and sending it back to apple.  I cannot believe that I buy a practically fully loaded apple for the first time, and cant connect to the internet.  I will go back to PCs and not look back if this does not get resolved.  2500 bucks is WAY to much to have internet connection issues.

    Sorry to hear about your connection problem, you have a great computer but sometimes small things can cause a major problem.  Did you check your firewall, make sure it is not blocking traffic.  Click on system preference>security & privacy then click the firewall tab.  If it is on then turn it off and see if you can connect. I would also reset the SMC   As a last check open your network utility and take a look at the status of your network card and link status.

  • Strange Snow Leopard/iMac email/Safari problem

    I just got my daughter a new iMac (10.6.4) and she is having strange graphics issues. Some websites using Safari and some emails using Apple Mail have all the text replaced by small squares with an "A" in them - mostly black but some blue.
    I've been around Macs for awhile but I've never seen anything like this. Default encoding on Safari is Western (ISO Latin 1) which is what I use without issues. Hers is happening in both mail and Safari.
    Any ideas before we call Apple?
    Here is a png of a bad email - http://www.goodguysposse.org/temporary/BadEmail.png

    Here is a site that comes up with the boxed "A". http://appletoolbox.com/
    I'm pretty sure the site isn't a problem as it comes up fine on my iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro & Mac Pro. Since my daughter's iMac is only a couple of weeks old, I thought there might be a setting or preference that is at fault.

  • IMac G3 boot problem

    Hi! I just bought a old iMac from some guy on the internet. The computer WAS working when I went to buy it. I had a great price for it because of the dark display. It is a G3 600mhz graphite edition. I have another iMac, a G3 333mhz purple/pink. I had an idea wich was switching display betweens two computers. After trying some stupid things I realise it was a bad idea. Anyways, my problem is the "new" iMac was half open when I saw an external VGA plug in the back. So just before I keep unscrew the rest of the computer, I tried to use the VGA port. I plugged the computer, turned it on. I heared the chimes and I saw the screen showing "OS 9" and everyting. I plugged a VGA cable in the back and the computer turned off. I'm wondering if it's because I plugged a VGA cable in the back or if it's because when I did this I put weight on the top of the computer and I rested a little above. It happend at the same time. For now on, the computer never started back again. I can hear the chimes, the power button light turns on, a few sounds can be hear inside it for a few seconds like the hard drive and the cd slot but after 5 or 7 seconds, I can only hear the fan... I tryed to reset the power management (don't know if it's called like that) by pressing the very small grey dot just beside the ram. Useless. The keyboard doesn't seems to respond... HELP ME PLEASE!!!
    I'm running OS 9, having 256mg of ram, 40gig of hard drive.
    THANKS!!!

    Hey Unwind,
    The computer WAS working when I went to buy it.
    What part was working?
    I had a great price for it because of the dark display. It is a G3 600mhz graphite edition.
    Nice machine but the monitor wasn't working?
    I had an idea wich was switching display betweens two computers. After trying some stupid things I realise it was a bad idea.
    What did you try?
    I plugged the computer, turned it on. I heared the chimes and I saw the screen showing "OS 9" and everyting. I plugged a VGA cable in the back and the computer turned off.
    So you tried to plug the VGA in hot?

    I agree with John. Some of the worst things you have installed are:
    Un-install Sophos.
    Sophos Un-install
    SIMBL is a sytem hack. Try removing it.
    SIMBL Uninstall
    SIMBL Uninstall (2)     See solution posted by Linc Davis .
    Un-install Tech Tool Pro, Maintain, Drive Genius, and CNET using the developer's un-install instructions.

    I have this problem for the second time, i don't know how i stopped it previously.
    My system was perfectly stable and smooth and all (10.5.6) and suddenly app start to freeze (in general when i want to 'save as' before the window appear) or the system freeze while switching user, sometimes it freeze when the puter is sleeping when it wake up.

    I have 3 external HD : 1 USB2, 1FW and 1 FW800.

    The last time i had the problem i made a complet reinstall of leopard and all applications took ages and it change dnothing , so i'm not goin in that again. For some crazy reason i have the feeling the problem is related to my HD.
    Any help very apreciated.
    NB. Why there is no console messages dictionary ?

    Whether it is a physical problem or a file structure problem disconnecting the drives for a day or two, if you can, will help isolate the cause of your problem. If the problems goes away then you know that one of the drives is the cause. You can then plug them in one at a time. Use the first one for a while and se what happens. If all goes well hook up another, if all goes well hook up the third. This way if you start having a problem you will know which drive is causing it.
    You can also use Disk Utility which is on your Mac in the Utilities folder to check the drives and see if there is a problem.

  • Why sometimes my iMac has a problem at the start? With impossibility to access the wi-fi

    I bought this iMac in the Apple Store in Bologna the 10th, and three days later it started to have this problem. Sometimes when I launch it, it appears a loading bar, and after a selection of the user (i do have only one user!), then, it doesn't recognise any Wi-Fi network, and I am obliged to restart the iMac. At the restart, it all goes perfectly. HELP
