Imac.sparsebundle is in use
I've been trying to backup my iMac but keep getting a message saying "The disk image "XXXXXXX's iMac.sparsebundle is in use. Try ejecting the disk image." I have tried the commonly reported solution of unplugging the time capsule and waiting for a few minutes before plugging it back in, but it doesn't help. I've also updated all my software and rebooted my computer. I am the only person using this time capsule and it worked without problems until recently. I am running version 10.9.2 of OSX. Any ideas?

I'm getting the following error message from my Time Machine for two days now:

I haven't changed anyting lately and can't find the problem...Try just rebooting the TC.. or restart of the whole network, in correct order.. modem.. router/TC.. clients.

Make sure that no other Macs are backing up at the time.
Pull the power cable from the back of the Time Capsule
Count to ten
Plug the power cable back into the back of the Tme Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try a backup again. -
My back up is no longer working. The errors that come up are "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/apple’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use." Does anyone know what this means?
It means that there are bugs in the operating system.
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Count to ten
Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule

The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Connie’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use. Time Machine has stopped backing up. I deleted the selected disc and re-selected which one to use. Not sure what else to do.
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Count to 10
Plug the power cord back into the Time Capsule
Count to 45 to allow the Time Capusle to fully restart

I'm using the newest Time Capsule (2T) and I just got this error.
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/James Kranz’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use.
It has been running fine (so it think) since I got it a few months ago.This is your Time Machine backup image on your Time Capsule or other networked storage device that you are using for your backups. To clear this problem, try restarting your Mac, but if that does not work then restart your backup device. Doing these should clear the process that is usiing the bundle, and allow your Mac to properly attach it for use.

Every 30 min I get this message from Time Machine.
This file 'Volumes/Data/iMac van Bruno Heutz.sparsebundle' which is used for backup copie is already in use.
What do I have to do?.

I'm on Mountain Lion and have version 6.1 of AirPort utility so there is no button to "Disconnect All Users"and the only other option of "removing and re-selecting the drive via Time Machine Prefs" doesn't work either. So this will work.
Launch Airport Utility and select the TC "Edit" button, then select the Disks tab. Deselect "Enable File Sharing" and click "Update". The TC will reboot then follow the same procedure and reselect "Enable File Sharing" and click "Update". After TC reboots again you'll be up and running. Not the neatest way to do it but saves having to unplug the TC which risks disk damage and the whole procedure takes less than a minute.The "Enable File Sharing" button seems to have replaced the "Disconnect All Users" button but with the slight disadvantage that it reboots the TC which takes up additional time. -

Restart the Time Capsule as follows:
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a minute
Plug the power cord back in to the back of the Time Capsule
This will fix this issue about 98% of the time. If you happen to be in the 2% category, there are more "fixes" here:

Try the above.
No luck then you should do
A1 .. Load the widget so you know what TM is doing.
A4 .. Reset of TM.
A5.. Verify the backup.
First thing.. though.. do a full network reboot..
Turn off everything.. restart the modem.. wait 2min.
Restart the TC.. wait 2min
Restart the computer. See if it now functions.
You might have to reset or do more severe stuff.. but try with that.
I am offline for 8 hours..

Has anyone come across the red "i" message saying "The backup disk image "/Volumes/Chris...(the last bit being) iMac.sparsebundle" is already in use."?
As of yesterday (4th Dec 2012) everything was fine, no trouble or problems at all. Wake up this morning, turn on the computer and when it came time to backup itself, the message occurred above and this has prevented my time machine from backing up from this morning (5th Dec 2012) ever since then.
Everything on my computer is up-to-date but this problem still persists displaying this message practically every hour, on the hour and nothing is getting backedup!
If you know what is going on and more importantly, how to fix this, I would be indebted to you for sharing your knowledge with me on this subject.

I recently bought a new Time Capsule and the following message has started to show:-

But the solution is simple.. pull out the power cord from the TC.. count to 10.. Plug in the power cord again.
This is just poor networking from Apple.

Stock standard issue.. asked 5-10 times per day here.. look at "more like this" on the right.
Simply reboot the TC ie pull out the power. .count to 10.. plug the power back in.
Maybe need to restart the network.. in order modem.. router .. TC.. clients. 2min gap.
