Imac spitting out dvds

hi im having problems with my imac spitting out dvd disc its working fine with cd's iv cleaned the drive using cd cleaning disc but with no luck still spitting out dvds...any help would be great...tnx

The optical drive uses a different wavelength laser to read DVD media (780nm for CD vs 650 for DVD. It's possible that the laser diode for reading DVD media is not working properly. If your iMac is still under warranty and the issue occurs with all DVD media then you'll need to take it in for evaluation.

  • Imac spits out DVD-RW and makes me angry

I have a mid 2008 intel iMac. I have burned dvd-dl dvd-r and cds with no problems. However, this thing is spitting the DVD-RWs into my face and no matter how much i yell at it it won't accept them.
    please help us.

First and formost welcome to the discussions.
Many times this can simply be an issue with not having your software up to date.
Go up to your Apple and select Software Update and click it.
This can also be from the brand of Media you are using. I have found that using cheaper Media can cause problems. I try to always use top of the line Media.
Here is a good Quality guide.

Another very good thing to try is to Check the web site of your Optical Drive manufacture and download any firmware update for yours.
Don't forget to Repair Permissions and restart your computer.

  • My imac spits out the Cd-r and I can't burn a disc

My iMac spits out the CD-R and I can't burn a disc

    Hello deneye2112,
Thank you for providing the details of the burning issue you are experiencing.  I found some resources that I think might help:
First, I recommend resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac (I wasn't sure if you had a removable battery or a built in battery, so I listed the steps for both):
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
Note: Learn about removing the battery on MacBook and MacBook Pro.
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your ownNote: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Is there a workaround to make my PowerBook not spit out dvds?

    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Since I updated to OSX10.4.8 recently my reader spits out dvds I have burned on my external Lacie burner using Toast 6.1.1 Titanium. This never used to happen. I've read previous posts on this topic but nothing suggested there helps.
Is this a deliberate attempt on the part of Apple to control dvd burning? I am using material that does not have security on it for demo reel purposes only.
Older dvds that I burned prior to the update are accepted by the machine while new ones are not.
    Can anyone please help?

Is it the same question than in this post ?

  • IMAC shoots out dvds or cds when ejectin???***

Does anyone elses imac spit dvd's or cd's completely out of the imac onto your desk or what have you. This mostly occurs when I am burning a disc?
    thanks

Yes, my 20" white Core 2 Duo late 2006 machine starting ejecting things onto the desk a few months ago - funny really things usually get weaker as they age!
It's not too tricky to catch the disc as it come out, but a little bit of an annoyance - I was going to put a box under the slot but it would look daft.
Anyhow, I think this machine is on it's way out, repeated graphical glitches and freezing, out of warranty (forgot to get Apple Care in time).

  • Dvd drive making noises and spitting out dvd

I don't know what's going on but whenever I put in a dvd the dvd drive makes a lot of noise which doesn't sound good, and sometimes it spits out the dvd or shuts the dvd program down and then my computer freezes on a black screen and i have to shut down my computer by turning it off. =(
This computer is about 8 months old and I don't think there should be any issues from my end. I have never dropped it or spilled anything on it. I unfortunatley never bought teh apple care....i know dumb! but nonetheless it's not bought. Does anyone know how or what i can do to resolve this issue besides not playing a dvd? Thanks any advice helps!

It sounds as if there's a mechanical failure with your SuperDrive. Since you're still under warranty, I would take the machine into an Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose and fix the problem.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • I was writing to -R dvds fine from blank dvds purchased last year.  Inserted newer purchase -R dvds and MacPro spits out dvd.  Why won't my computer now accept -R blank dvds?

I was writing to -R dvds fine from blank dvds purchased last year.  Inserted newer purchase -R dvds and MacPro spits blank dvd back out.  Why won't my computer now accept -R blank dvds?

Likely either the batch of media is defective, or the drive itself is not working.
Swap for different media; for a different batch from a different vendor, and also try +R media.
The slot-loading drives on various Mac systems can and variously do fail.  If different media doesn't work, then you probably have a failed drive.
If your Mac is of same the vintage as OS X v10.4 that's listed in your footer and you're not in a position to replace or repair the optical drive in your Mac, then you might consider using an external USB CD/DVD device.  If you don't have another Mac around to perform the recording on, that is.

  • Dvd player not responding, spits out dvd

My dvd player does not read dvds. It just spits out the dvd. This has only begun after I installed Lion.

The thing may need cleaning, go to your local office supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit.

  • Spits out DVD-R instead of opening iDVD per system pref

I have tried DVD-R and DVD+R, 8x and 4x... spits them out after 10 seconds of confused contemplation. Pre-made/homemade CD's and DVD's play fine. When I want to burn a disc with iDVD or burn folders... nada under me user AND test user. Arrrrgh!

Nope. Even with a choice of what to do with myself, we still spit out the disks.
My uppity mac book will only use the $20+ packs of DVDs? What is that about, Mac? What a SNOB! Mac is so good that it is too good for my DVDs? I'll have to sell the computer to buy the compatible discs!

  • IDVD spits out DVD before finished burning

With around 20-30 minutes left in the burning process my computer spits out the DVD that I'm trying to burn to. I keep seeing the same threads around but none of then solve my problem.
    Info:
    I'm using memorex DVD+RDL discs
I successfully burnt a DVD yesterday with the exact same content on the exact same DVD type
My project is 2 hours and 30 minutes long
I have 70+ gb of storage left
I'm not running any other programs in the background
If I try to save as disk image I get "DVDs created from double layer images may not play well I'm some DVD players" and having the DVDs work on some DVD
players and not others is not an options
This has happened to me twice already
    My computer is a 13-inch 2010 MacBook. Processor: 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo. Memory: 2gb 1067 MHz DDR3
I'm burning at 1x burn speed using iDVD version 7.1.2
    I'm burning at professional quality
I'm trying to get the best possible quality in my project I don't care about the time it takes

If there are any movies in the iDVD project did you do any re-editing after the 1st burm and this attempted burn?  If so that's creates a known but in iDVD and you should delete the movie from the project and then add it back or start over with a new project.
You're following nearly off the typical best practices except for the brand of disk.  Memorex has a poor reputation here, low dye content.  The most recommended brands in this forum are Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R. The same would be for DL disks.
-R disks will play in older DVD players.

  • Spitting out dvd 1 minute before its finish burning

Any ideas as to why this is happening? My IDVD project goes through the whole process of burning and then on the final minute when it is multiplexing it spits out the disk and does not put anything on it??
    Any ideas anyone?

Question: Are you burning back to back dvd's? If so then allow the burner a few minutes to cool prior to trying again. If this is not the issue, then you may be experiencing a media issue. What brand and type of media are you using? Is it Verbatim? (pls avoid Memorex while troubleshooting on this forum).
That's seems to be what is recommended here on this forum most often.
Suggestion: Try making a disc image first to the desktop and test the image with apple's dvd player app. Assuming it plays exactly the way you want it to then use Verbatim Dvd-R to burn to at 4x or slower.

  • My Imac spits out cds and dvds

My Imac will not read any of my CD's or DVD's, it just spits them out, any help out there?

Try resetting the SMC and pram, but my best guess is that your drive has failed.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Indigo iMac spits out OS 10.2 installer disk

I recently got this Indigo iMac. It has OS 10.0.4 as the operating system. I got an Apple OS 10.2.4 installer DVD. Everytime I put the DVD into the slot, the computer spits it out. I've tried restarting the computer holding down the C key. It still spits it out. I know this machine can be upgraded, but how??????
If anyone can shed some light on this, please tell me!
    Indigo iMac G3   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Some Indigo iMacs didn't ship with an optical drive capable of reading DVDs; if your computer is one of these and you bought the Mac OS X 10.4 retail package, use the media exchange program to get Mac OS X 10.4 on CDs. If you bought a DVD containing a previous version of Mac OS X, it is model-specific and won't work on your machine.
To tell what kind of optical drive your computer has, open the Apple System Profiler in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and look at the hardware information.
