IMac stalls during installation

I have a 17" iMac G5 that just recently started stalling during installation. The computer acts as if it is loading up the OS, but takes forever - somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 minutes. It has in fact eventually made it to the desktop. However, once you restart, it's back to doing the same thing.
I tried starting up from the MAC OS CD by holding down the "C" key, and now the computer just sits, and the icon spins and it has my CD in there.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and what did you do about it? Also, how do I now eject the CD from the computer?

1. What were you installing? Be very clear.
2. Where did you get the OS X installer disk? Is it a retail version of 10.4?

    2) Click Install (Program Downloads)
    3) Double-Click the Flash disk icon on my desktop
    4) Double click on the Installer file

  • Itunes 8 stalls during installation

    If anyone can assist,
I recently tried downloading the latest itunes software from this website and it will never complete. I am not getting an error message it just stops processing all together around 56%. I have been using a zune and their marketplace for sometime. Oddly enough i had the same issue downloading the marketplace software and had to have MS send me a disc for the installation. I want to buy a ipod classic but before I did I was trying to download the software and give it a test run.
I am a little reluctant now because I am having so much difficulty. I was worried about my system settings and extra junk on my computer so I wiped it clean and rebooted putting it back to the way it was the day I purchased it. I had not done this in years so I was assuming any problems I was experiencing would be cleared up this way.
Unfortunately I still cannot download the Itunes software. Anyone have suggestions as to what i am doing wrong.
    Thank you.

    Thank you for the response,
Yes I tried downloading from the website : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I was trying to just run from the download at first but then I also tried saving to my desktop as you suggested. It times out a little farther down the way at 67% percent when i do this. Keep in mind my system was fully updated when I originally had the problem. All drivers from dell website....and all windows updates. I had installed windows sp 3 prior to rebooting my system all togehter.
I believe you are right in that it is a more general problem than itunes since i had the same issues with the zune marketplace.
The system is fully updated now, no cookies, pop up blocker is off. I am not sure what a web accelerator is to know if I ever had one running.
I also don't know of any alternate web browsers to download from. I am also going to check the dell forum to see if i can get some assistance. Thank you for trying. If anyone else has a suggestion please feel free to let me know.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe updater stalls during installation (Mac)

We bought CS3 premium a couple months ago and have tried to use the auto update from Adobe. Unfortunately after downloading the new version of RAW the updater hangs up and never completes. It is the only CS app that does this.
It's kind of an old Mac, but it has 10.4.11 on it and enough disk space.
    Any suggestions?

Adobe Camera Raw 4.2 Update (never finishes install - hangs up around 40%

Adobe Updater is a piece of ****. It only works when you are the first user created on the system and it does not work when filevault is enabled. Amazing how they can get that program so crappy. It is hard to do this wrong. Just download directly and apply the updaters by hand.

  • Imac stalls on start up

    Intel iMac 24" core2duo 2.8 GHz
I was installing VirtualBox which stalled during installation and froze the whole computer. I did a hard shutdown (hold power button down) but now when I restart, the process stalls either with blue screen (once) or with grey apple logo and rotary hourglass (most times now). I've tried resetting SMC and did Start 'D' and hardware test which checks out OK.
Not sure where to go next or what the problem might be. Any help would be appreciated as I currently have a very pretty grey brick on my desk!
    Thanks.

Just an update of what I've tried:
    1. Archive & Install, twice
    2. Reset SMC; several times
    3. Reset PRAM
    4. Hardware test, both short & long versions (OK with both)
    5. Safe Mode-->Utilities-->Disk Utility-->Verify HD (OK); Repaired permissions. Also, the disk is not very full (160 of 500 used).
    6. Removed the software that was being installed when all this started (VirtualBox); though, I don't really believe it was the fault of that software.
I list these just in case someone can think of something else I can try. I live in a rural location so authorized service isn't really handy. I'll resort to service if necessary but what additional 'magic' can they bring to the table? I can only think maybe a hard drive wipe, reinstall might be tried but that is my Armageddon and I don't want to go there.
I'd appreciate if an expert is reading to post even if you think all avenues of self-service have been exhausted.

  • Apples update didn't work for me: Boot Camp: iMac displays a black screen during installation of Windows 7

Boot Camp: iMac displays a black screen during installation of Windows 7 - Apple Support
I have followed each of the steps listed in the link above with no success.
Prior to adding the extra drivers I was able to start the Windows install process up to reformatting the "Windows" Bootcamp drive. After that the computer would go through some instal processes and eventually restart. After the restart the screen would go black. The black screen lead me to the  Apple Support link above dated March 5 2015. After going through steps listed in the link above, I get an error message stating that the D:\Sources\instal.win. file cannot be located. I am forced to restart the computer at that point and theWindows install process attempts to start again but always ends up at the same point.
Note: I am installing windows 7 Pro from a DVD. I scanned the AutoUnattend.xml file and noticed that it refers to "Windows 7 ULTIMATE" but not "Pro" or any others that I could see. (see below). Could that be part of the issue?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The W7-Home Basic .clg file will have 5 entries, with 'Y','Y','N','N','N'.
This allows a single .wim Image file on the DVD media to be used to install any of the 5 flavors of Windows. When you enter your product key, the Installer knows what specific W7 variant you have the key for and will tell the WIM to extract the specific files the installer needs to be extracted.
    The following line

is telling that a retail product key will be entered, which should go look for this specific .clg file (from the five you already have on disk).  You can test if it will work for you by changing this line to the following
    <cpi:offlineImage cpi:source="wim:d:/sources/install.wim#Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL" xmlns:cpi="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:cpi" />
If it does not work, the other issue can be related to device discovery. Typically A: and B: device names are reserved for Floppy Drives. C: is your internal HDD.
D: can either point to the Optical drive, or the USB. The normal convention is that the removable media is named from Z: backwards. Y: and Z: are usually used for Network drives, so X: should be your USB. First try with the change to "Professional". If it does not work,

  • Can't open web pdf files from my Reader DC because my IMac wants a completed license agreement to use Reader and I never saw that page during installation.

Can't open web pdf files from my newly installed Reader DC because my IMac wants a completed license to use agreement to Reader, and I never saw that page during installation.  How do I get past this?

You need to accept the EULA on first launch of the Reader DC application.
Go to the Applications folder and launch Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
This will bring up the EULA.
Select the "Agree" button if you agree with the terms
Assuming you selected the "Agree" button, Reader DC should open.
You should now be able to open PDF files in your web browser.

  • "error during installation" 10.3 with iMac G5 Please Help

Hi there, I have an iMac G5- the first iteration 17". I am preparing to sell it so I used disk utility off of the original OSX DVDs (or CDs) that came with the computer to erase the drive and do the 7 pass overwrite. I have subsequently tried to reinstall the original OS (10.3) and I get the same error every time. "There was an error during installation. Please try again."
I have tried repairing disk permissions, and repairing the disk. They execute succesfully (after a restart) and yet I receive the same error message. Can someone please help me. Thank you in advance for your time.
    -Eric

This indicates you are upgrading to 10g from some previous Oracle version. It also indicates your libraries either do not exist or exist in a location that the new installation is expecting to see them (in this case look at where you have your lib and lib32 specified at)

  • Adobe Illustrator CS3: Fatal error during installation

    Hello,
I just bought the AI CS3. It installed OK on my friend's laptop (windows). However, when I clicked the big button in the installation:
    "Install Adobe Illustrator CS3"
    A window showed:
    Initializing Adobe Illustrator...
    Then I got a message:
"Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe customer Support for assistance. Fatal error during installation".
I've tried several times. My computer meets all the requirements (it's a really new and faster PC). And there's no old versions of AI on it yet.
    Can anyone help? Thanks!!!

Do you have any other Adobe products on your computer? When I installed CS3 on my Mac, I kept getting failures. After contacting Adobe, they told me I had to delete ALL other Adobe products -- including Flash and Adobe Reader. Plus, I had to do searches and delete any support files associated with them. It took hours!
